I'm happy to see that they're finally trying to make some actual money, but I'll have to see the actual implementation before I decide whether or not it's annoying.

Two thoughts as I read this. 1) I love that Evil Socialist Government that never does anything right appears to know better how to run a business than uber-awesome always-perfect private ownership. 2) "The idea was to keep cash coming in to cover the variable costs of producing more cars, and to protect market share". In other words, GM was a dot.bomb. Yes, we're hemorrhaging cash, but look at how much traffic our website has!

So good job Microsoft for finding this, and good job Google for being magnanimous about it. This is the way things should work, and is a win for the collaborative model of development.

So I may be a liberal but that doesn't mean I'm always opposed to privatization. Any given deal must be evaluated independently, and I think Renn provides some good criteria for how to do so.

So I believe Aaron Renn already covered this, but the increased rates are actually part of the point. Prices for good public services do not stay stuck in amber. Now if you'd prefer keeping water rates the same and raising taxes instead, that's fine, but the Dems around here tend to demagogue taxes almost as bad as the GOP. Sorry, but paying for quality water service with pixie dust isn't an option.
