Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True friendship is a plant of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation.

This might come as a shock to you, but bananas are actually blue. The reason they appear to be yellow is that yellow isn't really yellow. It's actually blue. That is not to say that yellow doesn't exist. It is just that yellow and blue never really reached a consensus regarding who will be what.

Not quite, according to one Emmet, and I quote: "Lest the impedance rises up to unmanageable levels the capacitor flux must be discharged periodically by rubbing a gray, green-eyed cat. Why? Because other colors of cat are forbidden by Quantum Chromodynamics."

Lomborg is one of these people that makes me ashamed to be a Dane. He might be entertaining, but I do not want to see a guy get so much media attention just because he is provocative and controversial. There might be a reason why he so much against the common scientific knowledge - he might simply be plain wrong, and hurt the climate case more than he helps it.

I changed jobs a few months back. In my new job I haven´t had the possibility to dedicate much time to social media. I have barely been surfing through the blogs I subscribe to in Google Reader, and much less hanging out over at Twitter and Friendfeed, or writing here on my own blog. The funny thing is that I haven´t really missed it. Sure, I do miss a few blogs, but its a surprisingly few. Sure, I do miss stumbling over a great heated constructive discussion over at Friendfeed, and sure, I do miss the platform of my blog to get something off of my chest. But thinking of it, I am surprised of how little I have missed from my life as a social media junkie. Tonight I am having one of the rare nights where I´m home alone. Furthermore its one of the nights where I am not up for looking at work, not up for TV or DVD´s, not up for chatting away on Facebook.... And I can´t be bothered at all with even opening Twitter. See that´s the problem. I have just been looking at my 1.000+ feeds over...

Of course there´s Backtype, but Its a different service. And then of course JS-Kit,... would be interesting to hear other Squarespace-users experience on that one. Cheers!"

The full list of feeds can be overwhelming. You can search: "RT group:climate-energy" to get only items which have been Re-Twittered (good idea since many of the feeds are Twitter imports).
- Peter Efland
since there are search.twitter.com feed imports for any mention of #cop15 you could make a search in climate-energy room for: "#cop15 group:climate-energy".
- Peter Efland
Same thing just with Hopenhagen or G8: Since there are search.twitter.com feed imports for any mention of #hopenhagen and #G8 you could make a search in friendfeed for: "#G8 group:climate-energy"
- Peter Efland
Remember, when you like or comment on an item you bring it back to the top. So please "like" and "comment" to give greater exposure to your favorite items, for the room members who might not have seen the items you find important yet.
- Peter Efland
does anyone know if there's a search feature in friendfeed to remove identical links?
- Peter Efland
more search filter tricks: "comments:1 group:climate-energy" - only finds items which has been commented on.
- Peter Efland
search filter tips: "likes:1 group:climate-energy" - identifies items which has been liked at least once.

If you only want to know for example what Andrew Revkin has to say about the climate in his latest news, simply search: "dotearth group:climate-energy"

You want only the news from NYT: "NYT group:climate-energy"

Is Kate Sheppard from Grist your favorite climate commentator: find only her posts by searching: "sheppard group:climate-energy"
- Peter Efland
If you don´t want to see all the tweets, but only get the blog updates, search: "service:blog group:climate-energy"
- Peter Efland
Why I chose Twitter instead of simply importing the RSS feed: Many of the blogs in this room could either be subscribed by their blog rss feed or by Twitter profile. I chose Twitter because 1) When you comment on a twitter profile in Friendfeed, you can Cc it to become a reply on Twitter itself - hence promoting interaction more than simply importing a RSS feed. 2) Some of these blogs are also active on Twitter and not just pushing out blog posts - again, promoting interaction.
- Peter Efland
Weird: I have notticed that the search doesn´t always show the tweets if you search for individual Twittter names in the room. For example, if I only want to see tweets/items from the Carbonoffsetsdaily blog (Twitter name: CarnonNews) then I would search for: "carbonnews group:climate-energy". However, this search will sometimes only bring items when other items in the room has...

I was thinking whether or not I should include in the room the Twitter searches for #green and #climate. On one hand I thought it would be too messy as these are very popular tags, so other posts would simply drown. On the other hand I realized that a search term for: "-service:feed group:climate-energy" would give all blogs and Tweets except for the custom feeds (which I am using to import Twitter # searches). I still have figured out if #green and #climate would be too cluttered. What do you think?
- Peter Efland
Twitter search on #climatechange has now been added. Remember, to get only blogs and individual Tweets, and not Twitter # searches, search for: "-service:feed group:climate-energy"

I agree with you, that Posterous will become a major player, but right now I don't like how a lot of people use it. For a lot of people Posterous seems to be just a plain hub for all their multimedia activities (picture/audio/video sharing) but nothing else. There should be more behind it (IMHO). I like your approach to Posterous, this is the way it should be.
- Georg Mahr
The only feature Posterous really needs to become "the next big platform" is a Backtype-like integration of external comments, esp. from Friendfeed and Twitter.
- Rubin Sfadj
I have to sign up for this. I think i could use it well.
- Amani
I started on Saturday and I really love the feel of it. I think it'll become popular.

I'm rooting for posterous because they validate what I think is a big space between media sharing and blogging, a space I'm working to be in too.

I love posterous' simplicity. So easy to use, comfortable but still need some fixations.

Thanks for posting Steve, and I agree with one of the comments that Posterous should add some sort of social commenting.

I'm right there with you, Steve. It is refreshing to focus on content. Sure, I miss my Wordpress blog at times, but as a designer, I know that beautiful things come from exercising creativity within parameters: twitter capped us at 140 char, and posterous gives us all the same gallery space to make our own, without all the anxiety for the extraneous (putting a widget for here, writing a...

What are the differences between posterous and tumblr ?
- archi_bald
Awesome service. And you can even post on the go via email!
- Amir
I honestly believe Posterous CAN be at least ONE of the next big platforms. We (us, are they still saying techies?) love to talk the talk about web 2.0 and worlds of Google's Wave, but if anybody benefits from Google, it'll be bloggers who post directly from Gmail to Posterous. We often boast these days that "content is key" is passe, and new language is needed. But the bare bones of it...

nah. Posterous is great and fun, and I´m a fan. But when it comes down to it its all about the quality of your content, not about how fast you can get your content out to various micro-services or if you can post from your Iphone. I think (or hope) we will see a reaction where bloggers go back old school and actually think through what they write, that would be a welcome change... well, good old quality vs quantity I guess.
- Peter Efland
That's just it. Technology moves forward, and if the old school way was flawless, mico-blogs would have been stillborn. The opposite has happened, babies everywhere, and Posterous might be Bam Bam.
- professor daddyo
I like Posterous a lot, but I'm not sure it brings enough to the table to get me off of Tumblr.
- Brett Kelly
I signed up some time ago then I've not been using it. I love tumblr and I see duplicated features. Anyway people using a social network drives its success, not features!
- Federico Bolsoman
posterous rocks and i like it...i use it to blog through my blackberry when i'm mobile.
- Jim Gray
I created one a few days ago and I can't stop posting to it! It's so easy!
- Jennifer Stocks
It's taken me a while to get round to using Posterous after setting up an account ages ago. We have started using it at work to log docs and messages in a big cross team project. It really comes into it's own as a collaboration tool. I have since started using my own one and it's pretty addictive! http://yellowbag.posterous.com/

just hope they will also agree with the rest of the world. Just because they´re the 2 most poluting countries in the world doesn´t make it good that they agree.
- Peter Efland
There are probably too many sources now making it more of a waterfall. Well, it is now up to the users to crowd source the most interesting stuff. Remember, when you "like" an item it comes back on top of the list for all to see - thereby promoting interaction.

Anyone who following my Twitter stream will have noticed that about a month ago I was quite enthusiastic about the blog platform, Posterous. Actually, I got so impressed with the service that I was seriously considering changing my blog from my Wordpressplatform to the Posterous platform. (In the end I ended up changing to Squarespaceinstead, and am very happy about that, but that's another story). A few days ago I met up with Vitus. He and a few friends, Steffen and Mille, recently opened a nice little restaurant - emporiUM Escandinavia- making delicious Danish/Scandinavian food, right here in the middle of São Paulo, Brazil (become a fan of emporiUM Escandinavia on Facebook). Except talking about their food, which is just truly amazing, (Ever tried the Scandinavian food? Go try it out - Order online here) we talked about different ways of using social media to market start-ups. We talked about the fragmentation of Twitter and of the pros and cons of Facebook fan pages versus...

""It will be in the lifetime of the three billion children and young people alive today that the glaciers of the Himalayas will either persist or melt away; that the sea levels will stabilize or rise, swamping a third of Africa's coastal infrastructure; that the Amazon will remain the lungs of the planet or become an increasingly dried-out and disappearing ecosystem, and the polar bear will continue as the iconic species of the Arctic or, like the Dodo and the dinosaurs, merely an artifact in the world's natural history museums," says Achim Steiner, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP)."

"Carbon is the citizen king of the elements, performing roles in nature from the menial to the extraordinary, and in so doing governs who we are and what life is. “Carbon’s kingliness as an element stems from its mediocrity: it does most things, and it does nothing to extremes, yet by virtue of that moderation it dominates nature,” writes Peter Atkins."

"A reliable guesstimate is that around 6 billion carbon credits a year will be in circulation, at least initially. Commodities like corn and soybean have markets that are 10 to 20 times the size of the crop itself, a result of the derivatives market. Some financial instruments sustain markets as large as 30 times that of the underlying instruments. Early speculation called for credits to be sold for anywhere from $13 to $20 a pop. Even taking the low end of these estimates, carbon is on track to be a three-quarters-of-a-trillion-dollar market. In a speech given last month by Bart Chilton, commissioner of the Commodities Futures Trading Commission, he forecasted that carbon trading could grow to become a $2 trillion futures market within five years."

Hi there, In case you only subscribe to my Media rss you have probably not seen the post I wrote on why I decided to make a Climate & Energy room over on Friendfeed. The post was written in my blog's Energy section, but since it has to do with Friendfeed as a media tool I thought it would be relevant for this feed as well. You can find the post here. /Pete

"Hi Sara, thats cool. Lets see if we get some conversations going. For people not so familiar with the works of Friendfeed rooms I’ve just written a post about the Climate & Energy room on my blog: http://peterefland.com/energy... See you on the web!"
- Peter Efland
"Hi Sarah, well, the greatest thing about the entire social media sphere is how it enable us to connect and create conversations. I have signed up for your feed and am looking forward to follow the conversation on your blog. I have also created the Friendfeed room which I talked about in an earlier comment. You can find the Friendfeed room here: http://friendfeed.com/climate... I will put a post up on my blog on how to use it, but basically I wanna enable climate & energy conversation, so I have imported a lot of blogs, including yours (let me know if you prefer I remove your blog again). I have also included a lot of Twitter search topics in order to make it a discussion hub. Hehe, yeah, well you should visit Brazil some day. There are a lot of very interesting places to see and events to join, not only carnival. Highly recommended"
- Peter Efland
"Hi Sara, I’ll through some more links your way later on when I get around to it. I’m also seeing a great list of recommendations here in the answers – so thanks for writing the post and thanks to your commenters… Was actually also thinking of making a climate and energy room over at Friendfeed (several advantages above Twitter) where it makes for great multi-chat threaded conversations as well as rich RSS importation – basically menaing a great way to have great debates. Lets see, I’ll let you know if get around to do it, and if it takes off the ground, user wise. Regarding your question, I’m from Denmark, but living in São Paulo, Brazil, where I am dealing with the Climate and Energy sector at the Danish Royal Consulate."
