Good post sharing an example of a large corporation that does exactly the wrong thing when one if its employees starts interacting with customers via social media.
- Chris Cree
or when 2 of it's employees let their egos get in the way of the corporate good
- Bill Sanders
I had this very same experience 10 years ago, although I didn't post officially in the space (unofficially yes) and they went NUTS trying to find out who. I even took Cluetrain Manifesto and gave it to the CEO - got into serious trouble for that. They really didn't have a clue...and were management consultants, people you'd expect to want to have 'conversations' and are probably all...

No, I don't hate Macs. I own a few and love them just fine (along with machines of many other flavors). It's just a funny picture that's not an entirely uncommon sight.

Reminds me of a quote. forget the source, and I'm probably butchering it, but something like "Nothing a nonconformists hates more than another nonconformist who fails to share their ideals of nonconformity"
- mikepk
Came across as bitter and resentful. Kinda like the second most popular girl in college getting turned down for harvard ( Legally Blonde Style).

It's interesting that GMail then pulled the SMS gateway for technical reasons, I'm sure some conspiracy theories will be advanced

Well, it *is* Halloween afterall. How about some sense of humor, guys?
- Lawrence Liu
They seem to focus on features. With most products I want, usability > features.
- Amit Patel
Consider: Halloween + Friday + a few drinks = "Oh no they did NOT just announce SMS messaging! We've had that for like a year! I'm totally blogging about this shit. Screw PR."
- Andrew Bonventre
Aw, lighten up you guys. I think it's awesome that they're speaking their true feelings without a PR filter. And funny, if a bit sad. Plus, you know, many a famous comic has been no less bitter.

It's funny, but not in the way they intended :)

I remember a year ago when AOL completely ripped off the Yahoo! frontpage. What hypocrites.

I read the news today, oh boy...
Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire...
And though the holes were rather small...
They had to count them all...
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall...
I'd love to turn you on... ...
I have an idea for a small but useful and fun app. Thinking of taking a day off and doing a personal 24 Hour Application Challenge. Wondering if anyone would join me and do one of their own. We could post updates in real-time in a room on FriendFeed.
Can you at least give us a clue?? oh and are we language specific here?
- Roberto Bonini
Any language, any environment. Could be a web app, could be desktop, could be mobile. Just an excuse to challenge yourself and code and launch.
- DeWitt Clinton
Ok. so which clock are we running against? PST, EST, GMT?????
- Roberto Bonini
Good question. Maybe something like 9:00 AM PDT on Friday to 9:00 AM PDT on Saturday?

OpenMicroblogger may have just pioneered a new space, termed, "micro-apps", in which very small apps can easily enhance the capabilities of a user's microblogging experience right on top of the microblogging service itself.

haha love this. I've been finding twitter + live real-time FF really quick. I don't even get to minimize twhirl before my tweets appear in FF. Lightning! How you liking it?
- Philip John
OK, looks like you go to iGoogle page and enter "javascript:_dlsetp('v2=1')" into the address bar. Thanks to @drewbenn in Twitter for that tip.
- Tim Chemacki
shame doesn't work for Google Apps users yet. even with the javascript.
- Shawn McCollum
It works for GMail & Google Reader gadgets.
- Tim Chemacki
I meant the Google Apps for your domain, the urls they use for the frame don't include /a/[domain name] in them.

is there a shortcut to switch btwn canvas and non-canvas view?

It still lacks a lot of features for me. IMHO Feedly (the FireFox extension) does so much more. Within Feedly I can read Digg and FriendFeed comments plus Twitter and Delicious integrated right there. Why wouldn't anyone use this with their Google Reader?
- michael sean wright
Feedly is great. Trust me, I know plenty about it. But it's Firefox only.
- Louis Gray
Louis, my issue is that it doesn't present existing GReader folders/ tags in iGoogle. You can probably sort them in iGoogle, but it doesn't seem to come across automatically. If I can get my folders in iGoogle, I'll swap tomorrow.
