it's frustrating. sometimes it works, other times I can only get two or three photos processed without rebooting. I wish I knew why. Adobe should give you the option to kill a process if you want to if it takes more than say 60 seconds.

Still, I'm glad Thomas let us know that it will be a time-consuming bitch to test for the techno-whores amongst us. I have been testing Bibble 5 beta with only slightly better results, but I think I will give LR3 beta a miss based on this thread. I use LR 2.x for my main workhorse (too lazy to photoshop).

Booted up my Windows VM, and have wasted the last 20 minutes with OneCare alerts, Java updates and Security Center alerts. It looks like I'll waste another 20 minutes before I get to do any of the work I needed to do inside Windows. This is why Windows sucks. Every time I boot up the VM, I have to deal with this crap.

Over at the Photobox blog they are complaining today after Flickr has apparently cut off their commercial API access. Photobox is a commercial photo printer in the UK who had previously been able to use the Flickr API to help Flickr users print photos with them. From the Photobox blog: “At PhotoBox we passionately believe in the values of the open web and consumer choice; if you do as well then please join us in our mini effort to encourage the mighty ‘community driven’ flickr to play fair. So put your hands in the air by signing this petition and who knows, just maybe, the very smart folks at flickr HQ in sunny CA will stop, take note and reconsider their decision to cut off our full API access. I got a snotty email this morning telling me I had been very naughty and that, as a result, I wasn't allowed to post in the forums anymore. Flickr people are so out of control and up their own arses it makes me want to vomit. What happened to the "old skool" attitude? Someone has really crewed up Flickr. I'd like to know who did it.

If I was to write a Twitter client, this is what I would write...

Basically, beside FriendFeeders, I only use Twitter to track about 3 people. If I was to code an app for it, I would write one that sits on the left or right of my screen that has my top 10 people. Every time that person tweets, their icon does the Apple Dock bounce and then is highlighted with a haze. I can click on that icon and it shows me all the tweets since I last clicked in a pop-out window. You can expand or contract the number of users on the dock (10 by default) but the point is that THIS is the 10 people you really want to listen to and follow.

The mobile version would be similar except it would be just a series of screens, side scrollable, with each user as an icon, similar to the iPhone interface. Clicking on the icon would load a page with that person's tweets. Bacically, that's how I would use Twitter. I don't need the stream, I like bottled water.

Oh that's hot. I could imagine a different icon at the top which, when rolled over, would show the last 9 tweets from your friend,s with the other icons aligning perfectly with their tweets. Rolling over one of the icons would show all their recent tweets. That's really hot.

up until twitter introduced lists I ran two clients - one with a search of the folks I always want to see and the other the normal one. now with lists I still run two clients but with lists instead of searches. but i'm loving your idea.

Johnny I agree. However stream is just good for gobbling the real-time information. There is also a basic, and sadly forgotten, purpose behind twitter. What are one's friends doing. Clients are needed which focus just on that.

Doctors are catching on to this and have slipped a "patient will not post online comments about doctor" clause into their standard forms. You don't even know you've agreed to it unless you read the whole thing, and who does that?

Desirable, but immensely difficult: how do you define a "person" for rank purposes? We are talking here about a huge collection of disparate things. And, what if, contrary to the online reputation, the real reputation sucks?

Doesn't Googles Sentiment Analysis a step in the right direction? It infers sentiment to rank http://www.seobythesea.com/... and “service,” “value,” and “general comments.” Aspects are defined in one of Google’s papers on sentiment analysis as “properties of an object that can be rated by a user.” Unfortunately, Google is attempting to Patent this process.

I would say not desirable - relevance is highly relative when it comes to people, and frankly anything that ranks people by the noise they make online and how many people they can get to claim they are great... will produce the wrong kind of behaviour

I agree with Joelle, mostly. The exceptions would be for trolls and spammers -- it's too much work to be on a constant lookout for trolling, and I'd really like to have an automatic metric which would enable me to automatically filter out such rubbish.

leo: yes indeed, and such a content filter would work well by taking into account the distance through the social graph between the author and each reader, rather than using a fixed measure of the author's reputation for all readers.

The problem with any such measure is that some people will take it far too seriously - make it into something authoritative instead of something helpful - and some people will game it. I dont want to have to think about my "score" in any field and have to "work" in the way the score measure in order to be taken seriously

Interesting post, I was just thinking today when reading about Listiti.com about how Twitter Lists plus this new form of "Track"/search on them can at least partially solve that problem: Just pick a reputable List, one that is large enough to create a thorough but vetted "universe of discourse" (e.g. Scoble's Tech-News-Brands with 500 entries). Then you're searching over that set, and not over the entire freaking Internet. This pretty much bypasses all of Google's PR machinations and their gaming by SEOs.

But isnt the problem then that all you see and hear is from the "big guys" who are already established, as defined by "in" players who by nature will want to be in the "big guys" good books? We're right back in the landscape of television, where the barrier of entry for new players is high, opinion and value is centrally defined... and we get lower quality and service as none of them tries very hard...

Actually, it's not a bus lane, as it's not red. But the tarmac looks similar to the bus lane's one. Perhaps something like rubberized asphalt.
