I snorted rice down my nose when my brother made me laugh at the table while I was eating, but no, no lego pieces. And certainly none of the scary moustache cross-dressing ones Mona linked to the other day...http://thebloggess.com/?p=635 - WorldofHiglet
Based on historical situations, it could be a very bad sign that there is no growth this year yet. I know that they talked about the site being much bigger and have invested a lot of $. - Andrew Baron
Mahalo no Boobs! Needs Silicon implants! LMAO - Igor The Troll
Can you imagine trying to pretend like your business is successful when it's not, and then going on to give advice to other people about how you do it? I think life is a series of ups and downs and if you are going to be outspoken, I think you need to admit it when its not going as good as hoped. I still could be wrong about Mahalo, its just that I havent seen any evidence on the contrary. Jason claims its going better than ever, but I havent seen the evidence. - Andrew Baron
IMHO Mahalo is a lovely little interstitial inbetween me and useful stuff, the internet was meant o remove the middle man, its a shame mahalo isn't dropping, sorry Jason - Phill Price
@jasoncalacanis responds/avoids w/fallacies ignoratio elenchi, appeal to ridicule&spite, ad hominem, stawman, denying the correlative, more. - Andrew Baron
Considering what I blog about I'm almost embarrassed to say I don't even know what Mahalo is all about. It hasn't grabbed my attention long enough to check it out. - Jennifer Leggio
how accurate is Compete anyway guys? Who knows what funky noise is in the stats. I wouldn't rule out Mahalo yet -- it's a sound model for a lot of reasons Jason prolly doesn't want to talk about! It's a massive SEO play and a brilliant one I might add! - Elliott Ng
Elliott, can you elaborate on why you think it's brilliant? - Andrew Baron
hmmm.just noticed calacanis is lavishing us w/more praise. oy. - Dave Winer
btw, i love that these graphs tweak calacanis. keep em coming. :-) - Dave Winer
And the graph is not a personal attack, its about the internet and his way of dealing with it is to say that you and I are going to host an afterparty for his mutts. Im surprised that no one else thinks this info about Mahalo is newsworthy, but it also confirms my own feelings. - Andrew Baron
That's what makes me think he's a Republican. :-) - Dave Winer
Looks bad here but I do have to wonder what the actual numbers are. Having seen the actual mahalo google analytics in the past I can tell you the totals are already way off. - sean percival
Sean, that would be a good way for Calacanis to respond. CEOs don't generally respond to criticism (if that's what this graph is, it's just a graph after all) by saying people who aren't even associated with it (all I did was Like it in FF) party with his dogs (who I assume he loves, at least he's always saying how much he loves them). Anyway... That's how I see it. YMMV. - Dave Winer
compete = enough said. that's like quoting alexa to me. - Patricia
Well, if you look at Alexa, Compete and Google trends, they all show the same thing. What are some other ways that you like to use to determine? These kinds of sites are not always great - it depends in each case. For a site like Mahalo, I think its kinda telling because the margin of error becomes less visual on such a large scale. - Andrew Baron
This must be one of those Maslow hierarchy of needs things again. Users like me just want the internet to work and don't understand why you self-actualizers get so torqued about someone's website that seems static at a "paltry" 2.5M monthly visitors. Frankly, it's a little like P-diddy complaining that he has to fly commercial because his private jet costs too much. /shrug - Mattb4rd
Mattb4rd, maybe if Jason would speak up and do something to show that Mahalo is not a big FAIL, he could put this all to rest. Also, if Jason didn't have such a long history of ripping off other people's projects and then trying to destroy the characters of his competition, it might also help to lull the P-Diddy associations that you wot of. - Andrew Baron
mostly because you have great links in google, but when you get there you have no information that can be used. Search Gawker, see what I mean. - dan
@Andrew I'll take your word for all that. It's clearly important to you and some others. I'll just be over here ---> being a spectator. :) - Mattb4rd
...if you get one good shot on a roll of 36, you were doing good. That’s the ratio: 36:1. When you edit ruthlessly like that, you come out with great results. People think you’re better than you are. It’s not that you became a brilliant photographer, it’s just that you started exercising taste and restraint - Phill Price
oh there are a few, then I zooomed out and turned debris on... - Phill Price
That is amazing, and scary at the same time. I'm not sure how any shuttle or other launch is able to avoid colliding with something on it's way up or down. - cmiper
Yeah, that's darned close. Bird photography with a 135? - Ryan Brenizer
@Ryan, it's not the first bird shot with it, but its my general lens, just happened to walk by it on a PhotoWalk. Congrats on the award btw! - Phill Price
Phill, doesn't it get old posting to 3 places? I post everything to Flickr, and use SmugMug for photo that will be printed. - Trevor Carpenter
PictureSync is a great tool. Set and forget. - Chris Nixon
Hi Trevor, Chris. I manually upload it to four site (although will look into PictureSync. I ask here quite a lot if people want me to remove any but I don't get an answer and as SmugMug, iPernity nor Zooomr have stats I can't see if they get clicks (flickr and phillprice.com do get a lot of FF clicks). Still they all get aroudn the same number of hits on each site a day so unless its the same person hitting them all, it's all eyes. - Phill Price
Gotcha, I understand wanting more hits. Just curious. - Trevor Carpenter
SmugMug has stats, but they aren't very useful since they are just hits per gallery. Definitely a feature I would like to see improved. - Ben Bailey
PictureSync looks interesting. I might give it a whirl if the rain keeps me indoors at the weekend. Though if I'm posting the same thing to other places as well as Flickr I'm not sure I'd have all of the instances linked back to here. Steve - CdL Creative
As a reader and a writer and a watcher of all-things-crime-related, I could've given an answer like that, too. Never use quicklime to dispose of a body. It actually helps preserve it. - Nine - Like the number
@Nine (9) But the question is, would you have? - Steve Spalding
ruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun away from Nine (9) too! - Phill Price
Some of scarabic's tips seemed to be common sense. It's the genius details like "remove the toilet to use the bigger drain pipe" that worry me! - Paul Reynolds
@Nine Good point, I think I agree with Paul it isn't the "common sense" stuff it's the little details and the way he presents the narrative that's creepy. - Steve Spalding
“Please be aware...Just received a follow from JGAMUGG4FQ2M on Twitter. I didn't click on the URL in his/her only update since it looks unhealthy. Please just be careful and watch out for this kind of stuff.”
95WNFR0LLA followed me earlier - was quickly blocked ty though :D - Phill Price
Any nonsensical name like that, and especially if they have just a single post with a URL and follow a ton of people...all clues to it being a spammer account. - Jeremy Hall
Got one from QNDUMFQZLKA5 just now and blocked it - Sally Church
There are also a bunch coming from names with DADDIO in them, usually random letters before it. They have been coming in on and off for a few weeks. - cmiper
I tend to bump into their seat A LOT, and make excessive use of the tray table; up, down, up, down, up, down, etc. - Dave Roth
As much as I would LOVE to use this... I never could. I also can't recline my seat. Being 6'4", I'm kinda sensitive to the banged knees and crushed laptop results. I usually just lean forward and ask them not to recline. But I secretly wish I could just be passive aggressive. Damn manners! - Scott Henderson
No. Tracey Ullman, while talented, isn't hot. The person who hosted The Weakest Link. Margaret Thatcher. That having been said, I'm a sucker for the presenters on Sky Sports News. Murdoch actually hires brunettes over there - sometimes... - Ontario Emperor via fftogo
It's totally true. They make me want to chew Orbit. - Shawn Farner
you have not met scousers then... You'd think they had a speech impediment - Zee at WeDoCreative
Ontario: speak for yourself; Margaret Thatcher was a fox. - Mark Trapp
And just when I was starting to feel good about my accent (which is rather an odd one), Ontario Emperor goes and shoots that down in flames. To add insult to injury, I'm a brunette with a funky accent *sobs* - Patricia Hanrahan
I'll have to wade in here on behalf of males with Scottish accents. Hot or not? - David Petherick via twhirl
Hot i would say. Why do i find every accent hot? - Mladen Srdić
(*Puts on Britannia costume and attaches 'I am a patriot' badge*) cI would just like to point out that there are over a hundred completely distinguishable regional accents here in the United Kingdom of Great Britain, Scotland and Ireland. I have yet to hear an accent that can be defined as "British" (*removes costume and puts semi-subversive and linux missionary badges back on*) :-P - Slippy Lane
(I kept my sarcasm hat on all the way through that post) :-) - Slippy Lane
@Slippy - you forgot the English principality of Wales - Phill Price
MEN with british accents are hot. unfortunately, though, as far as genetics go, the brits are not exactly blessed with the best looks. it's true. there are exceptions. but sorry, it's true. - Melissa Maskevich
@Slippy. Last I heard, Scotland was part of Great Britain. - Paul Grav
@Paul: Scotland is part of the United Kingdom. England and Great Britain are the same place. This fact notwithstanding, my point about the "british" accent still stands, lol! @Phill, oops, a slip of the keyboard. My apologies to the Welsh, of course. - Slippy Lane
I can recommend http://borrowlenses.com. I'm just finishing up a 4 week rental of a 70-200 f2.8 and a 1.4x teleconverter and both were superb - Dave Cohen
Anyone know of lense rentals in the UK? - Roberto Bonini
Roberto - I've used them number of times - although never by post although they courier overnight. £1k deposit though, so dont break it, proces are around £35/day, weekends = 1 day. - Phill Price
From David Byrne: "Brian Eno and I recently finished our first collaboration in about 30 years. The name of the new record is Everything That Happens Will Happen Today. For the most part, Brian did the music and I wrote some tunes, words and sang. It's familiar but completely new as well. We're pretty excited." - Andrew Baron via Bookmarklet
