"On Thursday, i did a tour of Artissima, the contemporary art fair in Turin. One of the objectives of the fair this year was to be 'affordable'. "We are not interested in having artworks that costs 10 million euros. We want to enable young people and those who have a passion for art but a limited budget to become collectors," explained to La Stampa Andrea Bellini, the Director of the Turin art fair. I didn't ask for any price so i'll take his word for it. I did notice a fair amount of young and i must say rather exciting artists in the booths."

SML = small medium large. My avatar is part of my Circles series. See http://www.flickr.com/photos... The circles have 3 layers: 1. Inner circle: Base / Core / Interior / Internal 2. Middle circle: Bridge / Transformation / Transition 3. Outer circle: Exterior / External / Public Facing The colors have specific meanings in each, while following a specific general scheme.

In the case of my avatar, magenta = design, yellow = technology, cyan = marketing strategy. i.e. design at core, transformed through technology and experienced as reflection of marketing strategy

minimalism: digest, reduce, minimize to its essence. The Yale education was good. It felt really odd then. But it grows on me everyday

Yeah you're super talented, my graphic design knowledge goes as far as the auto smart fix
- sofarsoShawn
auto smart fix? What do you do anyway? I can't really get a good read from your friendfeed / twitter tweets. fyi I'm here on LinkedIn if you want to connect http://www.linkedin.com/in... - I am always looking for talents for potential collaboration.
- See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
LOL I mean the Adobe photo shop button (auto smart fix) that does it automatically or that magic wand thingy in iPhoto, thatès the extent of my graphic design expertise, oh & the black and white button ~ but cool we can make a graphic novel like 300!!

http://flickr.com/people... bio: "originally from greece, she spent her childhood years in canada and the u.s. reading science fiction and sitting on the roof peering at the stars. when she learned that she was too short to fit the astronaut's suit, and as starfleet was not yet an option, she returned to athens and studied architecture to make the most of her skills in art and science. she didn't fall in love with it, though, so she started to look for ways to branch out into variations on the theme. she eventually managed to combine her interest in computers, her flair for teaching and her need to be creative by using, and helping others learn to use, CAD, writing textbooks, contributing, twice, to the olympic games with her own corner of expertise and dabbling in photography. tmt wonders where we (humans and co.) came from and where we're going. she likes reading about science, astronomy, evolution and philosophy. needless to say, she's useless at chitchat. her daughter...

perhaps... but i started taking photography seriously -- that is, thinking about it more than the odd snapshot, in february 2008. under what definition is that not a n00b? i rather think it more a ploy to be just starting out and depict oneself as knowledgeable and experienced. besides, i really don't know what i'm doing.
- tmt
@tmt I was joking. My sincerely apologies if I have offended you in anyway. That is not my intentions. #smlapologies
- See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
don't worry... i don't offend easily. and i still don't know what i'm doing
- tmt
@tmt well I still don't know what I'm doing with everything that I do. But I trust that things will come together at some point. Related reading: You've got to find what you love / Steve Jobs: http://blog.seeminglee.com/2007...

i've seen the jobs talk. and he's right. i just wish i'd found it earlier.

@tmt Quick questions: the bokeh - are they coming purely from the lens or did you do some additional work in Photoshop? I ask because in particular the leave shot, the blur does not appear to be coming from the same distance. #smlask
- See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
the bokeh's from the lens. in that particular shot i did some noise reduction on an additional layer and blended.
- tmt
@tmt thanks. It just has a very interesting linear line in the focal point. But as I have personally witnessed, the 100 f2.8 Macro does do amazing things. One of my favorite lens of all times (and posssibly the only non-L lens that I like) :)
- See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
yeah... and i'm liking it more than my 50mm f/1.4. it reaches farther and focuses nearer. i love this lens.
- tmt
I have the 50 f/1.4 and I don't like it at all. The color rendering is terrible. Requires too much post-work. But for B+W it's alright I suppose. The 85 f/1.8 caught my eye recently. Looks interesting. Many favorable reviews from the owners. See discussion here: http://friendfeed.com/smlphot...
- See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
that does sound interesting... thanks for the link. right now i don't think i have use for it. i've taken portraits with the 100mm and the 50mm i'm quite fond of and right now i have more lenses than i can use -- except maybe the 100-400mm big white -- and my 100mm is almost glued onto my camera.
- tmt
100mm as glue-on? Interesting. My always-on is the 24-70 f2.8L. Let me know what happens on your 100-400. Btw, did you photograph your stuff with the MT-24EX, or do you just use available light? Tripod though yes?
- See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
no flash. available light (desk lamps, flashlight and my monitor light). absolutely, a tripod and the 40D set on live view.
- tmt
indoor desk lamps? flashlight and light source is interesting. Any example of your monitor light in action? Btw, check out http://strobist.com - I'm not affiliate with them but it's fun. You can post to the pool if you provide lighting info. it's here: http://flickr.com/groups...
- See-ming Lee 李思明 SML
i've seen strobist, thanks. i never paid much attention because i don't use flash. i'm not sure what you mean about 'monitor light in action' but here's an SP lit by the monitor only: http://www.flickr.com/photos...
- tmt
sp = ? Interesting lighting technique. I just noticed that my ipod has similar lighting cap. But yes the panels do light a lot. I had to shut them off when I photograph my room :)

Does anyone known if the Burj Dubai is still scheduled to be done by January of 2010?
- Bluesun 2600
Here's the most recent info I could find; "the supertall skyscraper in Dubai, designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill of Chicago, had been scheduled to open on Dec. 2. But its debut has been pushed back to January 4." Chicago Tribune

Thanks for sharing the video Drew. It's amazing how relaxed they were the whole time. Tad, I'm aware of the labor practices over there, and I don't condone it. However, I can still appreciate this as the engineering & architectural milestone it is. After all, it's more than twice the height of the Empire State Building!
- Michael Fidler
Thanks everyone. As a final note, if you want to see something which demonstrates how tall this building is; then take a look at the most recent photos. The link is on the upper left-hand side of the page. Often a photographer can get away with taking a picture when their camera isn’t perfectly level, but this building is so tall (usually stretching from one end of the frame to the...
