Anyone interested in attending a nature photowalk in January? I'm looking to organize one near San Luis Obispo, CA. We'll spend a Sunday afternoon at Montana Del Oro State Park. Beautiful coastline, rocky and unpredictable. Great wildlife and gorgeous low tide. Interested? tscarpenter@gmail.com
I'd be up for setting one up during this time frame if you were up for it. Maybe meet at 6pm one of those nights. Maybe shoot the Mission District?

Monday Nov 17 would work best for me. I've been to SF once in my life and didn't spend anytime there at all outside of working, so I'd look forward to going wherever you recommend. Let me know where to meet and I'll be there.

Sure to be a fun one. I've been to Kenneth's studio and it is impressive. He will likely teach some great quick lighting tips as well.

We photowalk places in and around Aliso Viejo (south Orange County) once a month. Your comments and suggestions for future photowalks are appreciated. Our biggest challenge is that we try to get in and out in just over an hour - the lunch hour. We have done Old Town Irvine, Soka University, Laguna Beach, a shopping center and a business park. We are scrambling for ideas for the next walk - tentatively scheduled for August 7th.

I used to live in Rancho Santa Margarita and went to Laguna Hills High. So I know the area well. Here are some ideas for you: Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park in Foothill Ranch (easy nature hike location), Orange Circle in Santa Ana (nice small town feel and old buildings), Dana point harbor.

Mark, all great locations that I will add to the brainstorming list. But all quite out of reach for a lunch hour photowalk. Ironically, we used to work a stone's throw away from Whiting Ranch, but did not have the group then. We hope to start getting together after hours and on weekends, and these suggestions will come handy then.

Ohh, I didn't catch the lunch hour thing on the first read. Have you tried to photowalk your office space (do you have a warehouse?) Having a group at work for photowalks sounds like a great idea. I will have to check my office to see if there is any interest for something like that.

I think that's a great idea. We did something very close - but only the outside of the building, parking structure, etc. No, no warehouse. There is a data center, but that's high security - you need your retina scanned to get in.

"I'm not technically qualified to explain Dragon*Con, since last year was my first time, but it's really just an excuse for all the geeks in the US to get together, dress up like superheroes, buy comics and hang out together. Drunk. It takes place every Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, hosted by the Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott hotels. This year, the Sheraton has been added to the list. Highlights include COPIOUS amounts of comic/anime/sci-fi/fantasy fans dressed to kill in their respective garb. On Saturday morning, there is a parade. It is my favorite part of the event besides the dealer rooms. The dealer rooms last year consisted of three conference rooms (big enough to hold a circus each, roughly) containing wall-to-wall booths selling everything from COMICS to hand-made superhero masks to bondage gear to board gaming pieces to fantasy novels, et cetera, et cetera. There are costume contests, discussion groups, anime viewings, parties, concerts, autograph signings and appearances by famous sci-fi/fantasy s"

"Lately I seem to be inspired by geometric forms and patterns in general, and today especially with a bit of an organic touch. I came across a very inspiring image months ago that uses an intersting technique, but I seem to have lost the URL. Today I thought of creating my own version because it seems like an interesting thing to explore. As usual I like to keep things simple. So I experimented a bit and I ‘ve found an easy way to create something that looks rather complex. Take a look at this…"

When I was a young boy my father was the family photographer. He used slides so when we had family or friends over some one would say "Let's get out the slide projector!" As adults we say that now to get a good laugh. I will use this room to share my slides. Some one turn off the lights.
