Aren't they? I looked twice to make sure they were real. So ... imagine a hot air balloon tour of Holland when the tulips are in season.

I've always loved tulips. I would LOVE to fly over & see something like this. I'll have to check whether anything like this can be seen on Google Earth.
- Kamilah Gill
Way Cool. I'd love to see them up close. Believe it or not they used to grow bulb flowers like that in Fremont California of all places. But the fields and greenhouses are now long gone, replaced by condos and high tech office buildings....
- Jeff P. Henderson
I remember how fascinated I was as a child when we drove through tulip farms in Holland. It was amazing.

We've got some big tullip farms around Holland, Mich, not far from here, but like that is only a town mimicing a country, those farms do not compare to this

Good news for Mac and Linux users - Google chrome is now available for download for both operating systems | Chrome tweaks - http://chrometweaks.org/news...
"It’s a dream come true for some of you, because Google Chrome is now available for Mac and Linux users. The release is not official, but the guys from Codeweavers managed to make Chrome work on both operating systems. Based on the open-source browser project and developed using CodeWeavers’ Wine development expertise, they named it CrossOver Chromium. Now for those who are curious to see how it works, you can download Google Chrome for Mac and Linux from the following links:"

To be clear, this is a way to run the Windows version on Mac or Linux. Cool stuff, but not an official Chrome project, and don't let it color your expectations of what a native Mac and Linux version will look like.
- DeWitt Clinton
Damn, I thought Christmas had come early
- Ray Cromwell
Piaw - it is a little slower than native, but not by much, it's WINE for mac used on chrome.
- mjc
Pengtoh Reports that the VMWare penalty is about 6%. Is the WINE penalty more or less than that?
- Piaw Na
It's ghastly. Not even worth mentioning. Not even for free. In fact, they should be paying everybody for even *THINKING* about using this.
- l0ckergn0me
You had me excited there for a minute. As much as I appreciate Crossover for the effort, their ported Mac Chrome fails on font rendering to the point that it's unusable for a ton of sites. I'd warn most to stay well away

Great info. So has ecommerce reached a peak? Is expansion via awareness slowing? Are we seeing levels that current infrastructure cannot generate more reach?

That might be obvious but people with a lower IQ are also citizens of the democracy. This indicates to me that people with a lower IQ are simply concerned with different issues than those with higher IQs. It doesn't mean their vote is any less important.
- ·[▪_▪]·
I'd argue that it's because weaker minds (read: those who don't have critical thinking skills) are more easily swayed.
- l0ckergn0me
"Stronger" minds are easily influenced too. You just don't appeal to their beliefs but to their ego.
- ·[▪_▪]·
Indeed, the smart comment is no comment :)
- Mike Reynolds
Leave it to the smarter people in the country who can think for themselves to vote for the right person.
- Mathew™ one of a kind
Stupid! If this were median IQ one might draw a statistically significant correlation between IQ and vote cast. Makes me wonder about the IQ of those that pass this stuff along.
- Ryan Petty
this is the same thing from 2004, they just changed the names, it's still silly.

Republicans used to be the party of the upper class, but money = intelligence so we can no longer give Republicans the upper class. Certainly the lower and middle classes belong to Democrats. So what does that leave Republicans? Oh, okay, still no comment :)
- Mike Reynolds
Are they actually trying to say that the average IQ of most of the states is BELOW average? I wonder what percentage of people actually get IQ tests, anyway. My theory is it happens when people are looking for problems, like for those with learning disabilities or who are suspected of having ADHD.
- MiniMage, sheeple of FF
Do you really think this helps your cause? In all actuality, it makes you look like a complete fool. "IQ and the wealth of nations" contains no IQ information for the US States. When you do find "average IQ" numbers for US states, they aren't anything like the numbers in this chart. You are makeing a good case for a negative correlation between IQ and the electrion results when you and others push these fraudulent charts.
- John Rubier

Thanks for the article @msblog. I quote: "And so, politically, the G.O.P. is squeezed at both ends. The party is losing the working class by sins of omission — because it has not developed policies to address economic anxiety. It has lost the educated class by sins of commission — by telling members of that class to go away."
- Mike Reynolds
@Bjorn I can understand feeling the notion of the IQ test and score might be contentious for theoretical reasons, but why racist? And why a myth? I mean, IQ tests exist, people exist, smart people and dumb people exist, and often there is a strong correlation between smart people and high IQs, dumb people and low IQs...which part is mythical?
- Neal Jansons
But then Obama got elected by people who had the cultural bias in IQ tests the other way.

@mirthnadir It is free app, but it requires Pro account on RTM. There's also 15 day trial IIRC.

@andrei_c thanks for the response. How much is a pro account after the 15 days?
- Amani
About friggin time and I don't even use this web app.

Amani - Pro accounts are $25 per year, which is pretty steep. But I love the app, integration with my mail client, and the web interface. I will probably be getting the pro account after my 15 days are up.

I love this app. I signed up for a pro account and I'm using this instead of Things... I like Things a lot, but RTM is way more powerful...

Will it stream new music to me to listen to for free? If I can't be introduced to new music and actually listen to it before I have to make a purchase, then it's not like Pandora.
- Jason Carreira
Jason, I don't really care all that much about new music discovery. I like the ability to build a station off of one song and listen to it. To that end, Genius is great. Genius does recommend a series of songs you can go and purchase based on a single song, and of course you can play the samples of those songs like you can in the iTunes Store. There is no such thing as a free lunch.
- Mark Trapp
Pandora is paying royalties on every song played. How is that illegal?
- Mike Doeff
Since everyone wants to be a pedant, let me rephrase: "it's like a non-crappy Pandora where I can use it outside the US, rewind, skip more than 6 songs, go back, and play music on-demand, except you know, not limited to federally and contractually imposed regulations."
- Mark Trapp
Pandora is great for discovering new music. Genius is great for rediscovering your own music. Both push suggestions on new artists and songs. I think they both have their place... and, as you pointed out, it's a great thing for those outside the U.S.
- Evan Sims
Justin, I was thinking about that, that is, what would it take for Apple to provide web services for its products: the only way I could see it is if in the future rapid application development was a consumer demand. Maybe if creating mash-ups becomes relatively mainstream (like Mozilla thinks they will with Ubiquity). Otherwise, there'd be no reason for Apple to incorporate web services into first party applications.
- Mark Trapp
Yo, Pandora's not illegal. The law was changed and it's strangling them out of business. Pandora is good for the music industry... or would be if the music business was any good for itself.
- Matthew Wayne Selznick
from twhirl
This is quite strategic long term. The value proposition today is "rediscover your own music". But behind the scenes, Apple is harvesting mass amounts of consumption behavior, which is significantly more valuable than purchase behavior. Not just for content purchased from iTunes store, but anything else users manage with the iTunes app. Esentially they built the iLike sidebar into iTunes. The data will be used in many significant apps.

"David Moxon subjected 40 men and women to the sounds of a Maserati, Lamborghini and Ferrari, then measured the amount of testosterone in their saliva. He found everyone had higher levels of the stuff -- a measure of their arousal -- after hearing the revving exotics, but the amount the women had was off the charts. The econobox, however, left everyone colder than a January day in Nome. The study was commissioned by the ultra-exclusive British insurer Hiscox (we swear we're not making this up), which was curious to know how people respond to high-end luxury cars."

like WMDS is Iraq... there are some things I don't need proof about. BTW Chomsky now says Iraq did have WMDS... and I'm like Gee Really? Do you think women like sports cars?
- Noah David Simon
you need proof of this? ask Noam Chomsky and he will change his mind about women in sports cars in 5 years. Guaranteed. The official quote from Chomsky about WMDs in Iraq now is of course there were WMDs in Iraq, because we gave it to them and now we have 50% chance of a dirty bomb going off in the United States in the next 5 years. I still disagree with him... but it makes me want to...

- Noah David Simon
Chomsky: "This is even sometimes discussed. You can find it in the strategic analysis literature. Take, say, the invasion of Iraq again. We're told that they didn't find weapons of mass destruction. Well, that's not exactly correct. They did find weapons of mass destruction, namely, the ones that had been sent to Saddam by the United States, Britain, and others through the 1980s. A lot...

so we listen to Chomsky, Steinem, Roy and the rest of the numbnuts and we have Saddam with a bomb because we don't trust our own pentagon? I prefer to just say that women like sportscars http://simonstudiotheatre.blogspot.com/2008...

not this woman. i think those cars are tacky and that the guys driving them are severely overcompensating. but i'm basing that on friends who drove/drive such cars.

Women often give me money for the opportunity of riding in my car. I've convinced myself that being a cab driver has some bearing on this.
- Christopher Harley
Yuvi, not really :) It is more knowing the underlying psycho-biological process of partner selection :) Females as well as males look for competitive advantages in the other gender. Research proved that females dig more into guys who dance well - the same line of htought - because not many males dance well and those who dance well convey a message of good physical state, coordination, open-mindedness,etc. - messages picked up by females.
- Hayk H.
Dunno what the car is, but the model is hot! :D
- Ron
Noah, dancing is not the exclusive determinator. IT is only one of many :) In politics and show business - the examples you tampered - I have to say it doesnt much work, as you said:) the reason being that it is either not visible or relevant to what they do (like in politics) or everyone is/becomes good at it (like in show business)! In both cases advantage ceases to be a relevant advantage.

my sister is a professional ballerina. She is in the Joffrey. The general behavior of most in the ballet world is one of deciet and sexual disfunction. from wife beaters to cheats... to drug problems. It is not a positive trait for women to see in a man. you are right that there are many variables. Certainly Barishnokov does well... but he does well because he is powerful and he did not do as well with the ladies when he was younger... despite what his bravado might say
- Noah David Simon
on the other hand men do like to see Salome dance and will cut off John's head for it. Dance is confusing. Grrrr!!! Just lost 2 days and about 6GB of sync'ed files! Just in the cloud, fortunately, and not from my actual hard drive, but still.... Had a problem with Parallels bringing my system to a crawl and crashing, and when I managed to restore things to normal (by force-quitting Parallels), I watched as ALL my files disappeared from SugarSync. Pondering now whether to give it another go or just wait for a more stable version.
- Grey Drane
what are people using sugarsync for? I signed up for a trial back in April and thought it was cool but didn't really have much use for it. Care to share?
- Jon West
AFAIK there's no way to automatically sync files to iDisk on MobileMe, which is perhaps the main difference. There's also no iPhone app for accessing your iDisk -- or for Back to My Mac (again AFAIK) -- so you have to use Safari and a sort of "back door" by going to the old idisk.mac.com/username address and not me.com. But yeah, you'd think there'd be a way to use your MobileMe account to do essentially the same thing as SugarSync, but there apparently isn't... yet.
- Grey Drane
SugarSync seems to work really well for me...and the iPhone app to access my entire hard drive remotely is amazing...I just un-installed Mozy and DropBox...SugarSync is replacing both

Greed is never good. It is at the core of all of our problems in this country and most that we have caused around the world. To think that somehow greed will cause US corporations to heal the world's wounds is silly and naive. Greed did not solve our health care crises here, but rather created it. Greed has been available as a reason to clean up the planet yet no one has taken it on.
