SCREW YOU HAGGIS... I wax me legs, I spend hours in the hairdressers and weeks doing my makeup for you... YOU BASTARD... I HATE YOU... *runs off sobbing*
- Johnny Worthington
Oh I have you in another list Johnny: Crossdressing Australians of FF.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Aww, I hope I'm not offending anyone by not including them on the list. Many times I just go by the avatar and if it's a cartoon or something it's hard to tell and I won't put on here, and also these are just *my* personal tastes. Everyone has different types!
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Any woman with the brass to be on FF is a hottie in my book.
- Chris Baskind
Wow - that'd be a drag to be on a list like that. Still, as I always say, if you want to get a lot of followers get a hot chick avatar. It's sad but it's iJustine. True! I mean true. It's sad but it's true.
- Ciaoenrico
Ciaoenrico I kinda take offense to that. My avatar is me, it's my face and I shared it on FF after a LOT of thought about it (plus some gender confusion, but that's another story). Because a woman might be considered attractive she *shouldn't* user her face as an avatar otherwise she's just trying to get followers? Bull crap, and sexist to boot.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Agreed, Tina. That certainly wasn't the point of this list - it was merely a way to point out all of my FF crushes at once. I hope no one takes offense to it. :(
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I'm offended....I wasn't on this effing list!!
- jamar78
Sean, I'm not offended, personally. I find it rather amusing. The title of this post, to me, however, seemed rather "definitive". YMMV. :D
- Helen Sventitsky
I think I'm due for a new picture. I've used the same one since joining.
- Rochelle
Rochelle, you had that other one, the B&W one of you smiling. That was great, too
- Josh Haley
Quite a collection. There should be a male list too but then that could lead to a match-making game and apps being developed and other memes ... and ... oh dear ...
- Amani
Dammit.. I'm about to delete this post. It was not my intention to hurt anyone's feelings. :(
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I don't think it's a problem pointing out your crushes, hun. I think it's the fact that it's titled "The Hotties of FriendFeed" that can make people kind of uncomfy. That comes across as a direct judgment of peoples' looks, even though we know you didn't mean it that way.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
@Sean don't ever apologize for your actions.
- Shevonne
Okay, I think I understand.. Thanks Amanda.. I just updated the title, hopefully it will let everyone know that this is my own personal list, and by no means a judgement of anyone.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
It's not my scene, but hey...whatevs. It just feels a little meat market-ish to me. People aren't avatars, and I know a couple on the list who wouldn't be proud of being reduced to a FF hottie on someone's list.
- Derrick
Derrick - But a lot of the stuff you post to the really gay room is pretty meat market-ish. Just because they're professional models it's okay to objectify them? We naturally objectify each other because we naturally are sexual creatures. I'm not offended by being on this list, but I don't like being objectified and I think what Haggis has done is a sweet gesture, not a gesture of blind testosterone rubbing one out.
- Mattie Kenny
Didn't anyone see me grab the popcorn earlier? That's your 1st clue.
- Josh Haley
Sean you created a monster didn't you....hehe
- jamar78
Ugh.. no kidding.. I guarantee this list will never be mentioned again outside of these posts. I think i'm gonna unplug for a while and let this all die down.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
ok i just now read the whole thread damnit i always miss everything lol joel... ::shakes head:: u kno to some i'm not a lil sister lol ur so funny i luv u!
- Cardeen Martinez
don't let it get to you Sean....all that matters is that you had no malicious intent which you didn't
- jamar78
**blushes** - gee thanks. :) And go hide for a while, Sean... it'll all blow over.
- Jen (SquirrelGirl)
nice list, i have about half of these in a group called "sexy people"
- sean percival
Mattie, any pics I post in the Really Gay Room are A) *in* the Really Gay Room, and B) pictures culled from sites that are meat-marketish to begin with. I would never post pics of Scoble or Louis Gray and say, "oh these are guys I'd like to see naked". And I'm not knocking Sean. I freakin' love Sean. But I also know that there are women on the list who've worked hard at getting to where they are in life and in their careers and to be thought of as a pin-up on FF isn't their bag.
- Derrick
It's about time you chimed in Leather...LMAO...love it...haha
- jamar78
I don't see how posting this in a room would make it any different a situation, Derrick. I don't think that Sean ever said he wanted to see any of the women on the list naked. Is that something I skipped over while scanning the comments? If he said that, then yes. This list is pretty lame. But being admired for your beauty isn't bad. Especially since (for me at least) being a hottie entails being incredibly intelligent and engaging.
- Mattie Kenny
Mattie, that's exactly what I consider a hottie. Attractiveness is only part of the factor. Intelligence, a sense of humor, and many other things go into that equation.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
+100 Mattie -- There's always a fine line of taste when these things come into play. These are our normal avatar pics, not semi-nude pics, not anything gratuitous. That's what i think keeps it on the good side of the line. It's really just an innocent list.
- Lindsey is Fierce!
Mattie, I'm not going to fight with you over this. If you want to split ends, say I'm a hypocrite, or engage in double standards, feel free. I don't care. Very simply, I know people who don't want to be referred to as hotties. By anyone. I see them on the list. I speak up. That's it. There are 50 people in the RGR, maybe 20 people see it regularly. That's a HUGE difference than the numbers of people who sub to the home feed. But you know what? Forget I even opened my mouth. Apparently I've become a prude...
- Derrick
That's not what I'm saying, Derrick. Now I understand what you meant by putting the photos up in the RGR versus what Haggis did. Did these women speak up for themselves and say they don't appreciate being called attractive?
- Mattie Kenny
<3 Derrick.. I appreciate what you are saying, and think it's very commendable that you are seeing this from an angle I didn't really see. I know you only have the best intentions with what you are saying. Please no more fighting over this..
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I just happen to know them, Mattie. And I didn't say they didn't appreciate being called attractive. I said they, knowing them as I do, woudn't appreciate being culled up on a list and pointed out for the world to ogle.
- Derrick
Sean, you know how I feel about you bud, and I'm not putting you on blast. Consider my hands washed of it.
- Derrick
Mattie, how about you look at it from the flip side...those women who DIDN'T make the list and don't have the benefit of feeling all bubbly inside because they've been deemed "attractive"? It's all well and good when you're on the winning team, apparently.
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
yeah Sean you are a good person....don't beat yourself up about it
- jamar78
Although you better take my sis' out this damn list!! hehe
- jamar78
Amanda - I don't think not being on the list deems you unattractive and I don't think Haggis is the be all end all of who is or is not attractive. Wow. I'm on the list. BFD. I don't feel or bubbly inside, nor did I take it very seriously. It didn't blip in my radar until I saw people taking major offense to Haggis having posted the list, in which case I looked at it & was surprised to see myself there. I'm not on any "team".
- Mattie Kenny
Haggis, I love the conversations you spawn... feel free to include me in future provocative topics. ~xxxooo~
- Far
I would like to state for the record, should there be a men's list...I would like to opt out. That is all, thank you.
- Christian (Simply X)
Ok gents, let's show the ladies how we roll. (and can someone email me that info ahead of time, so I look like I know what I'm doing?)
- Morgan Haley
Oh too funny. Thanks for including me, Sean. ;-)
- Jennifer Leggio
And the winner for best line from this entire thread..."The picture is too small to see. Am I on it?"...@Martha. thank YOU! I am now cleaning cola off of my keyboard.
- .LAG liked that
How did you manage to limit yourself to only 53?
- j1m
Ok my cat is really pist off...didn't make the cut...gees! LOL
- Susan Beebe
This list is approved, mainly because one certain hottie is the better half :) Sean, not only do you represent a great product, but also exceptional taste. Sir, I owe you a drink! ;)
- Matt Harwood
I'm amazed that neither Lisa Bettany nor Sarah Lacy are showing up in any of these clique building seminar visual aides.
- Matthew DeVries
Ok I am not the brightest crayon in the box so I want to know how the hell do you see a list of people like that. I have different lists but where do I go to see all in just that one list?
- Brandy Lea
Brandy, you see this view when you go into one of your lists then select to Add/Remove friends.
- Kol Tregaskes
I think what Brandy is asking is if she can see someone else's list, which we can't. Haggis might have made a list that is friendfeed.com/list/hotties and he'll see it when he's logged in, but no one else would see it if they went to that same URL. He wouldn't even see it if he logged out and went to that URL.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
I don't think I was subscribed to you when I made this list, Jeunelle. This is almost a year old! :D
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Don't misunderstand what I mean. I mean I am thankful I didn't make the list period. PRAISE THE LORD :)
- Jeunelle Foster
We should have an Academy Award of FriendFeed or something. That I would have a long ass speech prepared telling everybody how I'd like to thank all the little people who were responsible for me winning that award and it should be sponsored by Mashable and FFundercats :)
- Jeunelle Foster
How the FF did I miss this thread? Jan 27th??? Thank you! That's a huge compliment. And since it's so old, it's a fun time capsule too.
- Ginger Makela Riker
OMG Amani! And Shevonne (HOTTIE)!! And Mark! And Mark!! And DERRICK!! And your GORGEOUS kids!!!!! Thanks for sharing!! *edit: Should I be scared I named you guys w/out looking at the caption? I think I have a problem...
- Mona Nomura
Thanks to Anika and her husband for hosting. We had a great time. And for the record...Derrick is everything you think he is AND a bag of chips.
- Mark Krynsky
Depends on what you think he is tho...
-
Derrick's ok. Mark K. tried to get me drunk on some South African booze that was discovered by monkeys. No joke. Everyone was the bee's knees, and if you aren't following them, you should. They will enrich your FF experience.
- Derrick
I was a little bummed we didn't have Mo & Morgan though but we're already talking about a 3rd meetup and I already volunteered to host it.
- Mark Krynsky
This pic turned out nice. It was that camera of yours Mark. That was fun and the traffic getting there didn't even aggravate me. Derrick's ok too! LOL... ;-)
- Amani
I love that Bret, Paul, and Kevin checked in. They probably are looking at their screens and asking "what do we do now?" how about ship some new features before Facebook overlords take you off to do bigger things?
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
I feel sorry for all you addicts. My use of it is purely social.
- Bruce Lewis
I do like FF and use it almost every day. Wouldn't it be great if FB either left it alone so we can continue to use it as "professionals," or somehow incorporate it into a more "mature" version of FB that didn't have all the annoying, time-wasting apps, games, etc. I'd much prefer a totally customizable FF "wall."
- Cathryn Hrudicka
I think FFundercats HO!!!!! would have worked but I'm here anyways.
- Jimminy
Actively fighting addiction to anything on a daily basis, but I'm still a FriendFeed fan! (I'd have been here sooner but I've been staring at Phoebe Cates pics for longer than I realized.)
- Mark Jepsen
Thank you Robert Scoble to be here. :) BTW is this looks interesting for FF replacement? : http://streamy.com/ ? May be... I'll try it to see. :)
- Claude LaFrenière
Why should I? Whats in it for me? You doing some sort of survey of people to send out the police to do a "Safety Check" on when the site is shutdown?
- CW™
here. anecdote: a friend of mine just signed up for FF this evening. apparently the FriendFeed hype of the last 24 hours pushed him over the top. leaves me wondering whether FF has actually gained users today?it would be a crafty way of marketing the service. I'll wake up tomorrow to discover that there was a problem with the paperwork and the FriendFeed team have had a change of heart.
- JSLeFanu
from BuddyFeed
Count me in even though I was just starting to get hooked. I guess it's time to find a rehab and get all sobered up until the next relapse with some other new addiction. Isn't life grand?
- Usman Bashir
oh hey, look, the added an "add comment" link to the end of the comment list. Huzzah!
- Brett Kelly
from iPhone
++Jay. I was going to do the same thing yesterday but I didn't want to pay the money.
- David Cook
David -- this was a $9.95 session but you can get them for $7.95 and there are also 25% off coupons if you do online check-in prior to your Delta flight. That's an incentive for folks to use that service and offload kiosk use at the terminals. Very savvy marketing by the folks at GoGo and Delta combined.
- Jay Cuthrell
well, it's 12:12 a.m. and I'm perusing FF from my iPhone via BuddyFeed before turning in. so yeah, I guess I count. "Here!" (raises hand)
- Don Faulkner
from BuddyFeed
I recommend FF to some of my clients, and there are some companies and nonprofits with presences here—not like Twitter, but I'll be curious how that will be affected when FB takes over more. Most have FB fan pages, groups and/or causes, too.
- Cathryn Hrudicka
Yeah, me too. I just saw the request to have a comment link at the bottom of the comments from one of your friends just yesterday and here it is. I'd say they are listening. Thanks FF.
- Keith Rowland
И так чятег, пока Скобл не поговорит с нами представителями СовиетФрендфидика, все мои записи теперь можно читать в этом тредике. Пользуясь случае передаю Парню Бухайту и его команде большой привет, в связи с тем что [He can has sleep naw].

- Matthew Horton
More than a friend of FriendFeed, was starting to use it as a full lifestreaming platform and loved it. It's made a whole lot of other sites make sense.
- achean
Hi, I'm Bette... I don't know if I'm an addict, but I can't stay away... I keep checking, just to see if something's new... and I cry if I get no responses to a post. Is that addictive behavior? :D
- Bette Cooper
Yup, I have blocked all the impersonators now. You will still see them, but I don't see them and they no longer can comment on any of my items.
- Robert Scoble
@scobleizer As far as I can see you have blocked not only the impersonators (who renamed themselves back the moment they found out you have a problem with this) but most of the folks who chatted there.
- Махатма Бугоганди
@meatreach yes, see next thread. Scobble becomes anti-Russian.
- Never Impersonate You
Maxatma: well, that's just too bad. I speak English. Sorry. People who don't speak English really don't have any business commenting on one of my items, except in rare cases.
- Robert Scoble
Why you, Robert Scoble, don't block users from Spain or Italy? China or arabic countries? Those users that comments on non-English languages?
- Never Impersonate You
@Robert, in fact they do speak English. But they also do make fun of Friendfeed and everything that's going on there. You can block them or take part in this fun. ;)
- Махатма Бугоганди
I prefer FF over twitter and facebook, but all my friends are on twitter and/or facebook. Maybe facebook will get it right this time now that it has acquired FF. If they simplify it a bit more without removing functionality. Then I would spend a bit more time on FB. Lets hope all goes well with the merger. If not I'm jumping ship and going over to Google Wave. oh wait, I'm going to go with Google Wave regardless! ;-)
- Captain Jack
Bu arada Russian friends Turkiye'ye selamlar gonderiyor.
- ideali
@scobleizer i can speak english and i beg you to remove bann from all russian friendfeeders, because we are all from it-community, working in internet companies and we came with peace, you asked for feedback from friendfeed addicts — we show you how really it is being frf addicts, we change names, we chat, we making things that are not serious. Why so serious? Unlock people, they are not bots, they just playing the game of real addicts and have fun. Common.
- ideali
shaun: I started this post to demonstrate that a lot of us are still here and aren't likely to leave. At least not quickly. So, life goes on after FriendFeed gets acquired by Facebook. Point proved.
- Robert Scoble
Robert He says ; Our Russian friends say to hello to Turkey
- Osman Üngür
ideali: have them send email to scobleizer@gmail.com and I'll unblock anyone who says they weren't impersonating me.
- Robert Scoble
Hector: good morning! I need coffee.
- Robert Scoble
@robert yes they (we will) stay here, I think tat the migration process will take time and after reading @Paul Bucheit, I think that what we all are trying to get even if we don't say it explicitly is to preserve a kind of intimacy (beeing a part of the Huge faceBook community) don't mean that FF community will preserve their intimacy, why should a community be a plan one, (let imagine a community as a set of sub-community) that all.
- abdellah
Wow!! So many likes and comments; is it a record Rob?
- Er-fun
@scobleizer thank you, for understanding. be cool, guys we just want have fun here a little. Take care.
- ideali
@Robert RE "I have enough noise in my life. I don't need to have more" - isn't it a lot of noise having 26K subscriptions and 46K subscribers on your frf account? I'm kind of surprised - you create a community that large around yourself, yet when you see a new and unusual activity you just block it right away.
- Махатма Бугоганди
@Robert, patience? Who's talking about patience? It's about curiosity, not patience. When something strange and unusual happens around you, you can either try to stop it or try to see what it can develop into. You choose to stop - and it stopped. Well, not stopped - just moved to some other place. And do you really know what it was and what it was about to bring you?
- Махатма Бугоганди
I'm here all the way from South Africa! I dig this service and I'm not quite ready to give it up. Regardless of the news about the acquisition, this remains an awesome service.
- Paul Jacobson
I'm new to ff but find more valuable information here than anywhere else!
- Janet Crance
I don't know how I rate my addiction relative to others, but I shared Hitler's reaction upon hearing the acquisition news (despite happiness for Paul and Bret)
- Chris Duffy
I think I have to qualify my earlier answer. I don't have many friends on Friendfeed, but I do use it as a news aggregator. With groups and rooms, I used it like Techmeme. Facebook, where i have a more healthy friend list is less interesting. In fact, I spend more time there locking things down, than sharing, which I did pretty freely on FF, even if only 10 people cared.
- Peter
Hope this deal preserves FF's power and usability. FF:FB::Mac:Windows.
- David Lounsbury
I'm sure this is part of Scoble's plot to poll all the people who really read his posts, and unfollow the rest. So I raise my hand.
- Shivanand Velmurugan
Just a wannabe. Not an addict (yet).
- Carole Hicks
It might also be a way for me to filter down my "following" count (diff (my followers, scoble)) are the only people I really need to follow. Those that scoble follows, I can safely unfollow and use Scoble as my social media filter :)
- Shivanand Velmurugan
pardon the arrogance but it really sucks this great forum of sharing will turn into a myspace humdrum. Now I have to find another SM where first adopters and well informed techies won't haft to compete with general "noise"
- earl wallace
Well, here's a comment I can later delete and rob the owner of 1500!
- Matthew DeVries
I just mention the 1500 mark since it was such an iconic query to see... that and the 500 Likes club of FF posts. It's pretty exclusive stuff... but it's also sobering to note that the subject matter required to get to these levels isn't always a uniform mix of cares/concerns.
- Jay Cuthrell
When I heard the FaceBook news, I tried to quit FriendFeed and I couldn't... I'M HOOKED
- The Web's Wendell Wittler
i clicked the "1488 more comments" and my computer nearly exploded. and yes, i am using an amiga 500.
- jack
Now that I have instructions (thanks LouisGray) and figured out my Bookmarklet! I am LOVING the ease of use! addict - not quite...
- Robyn Hawk
Actually, I lied. I am not a die-hard friendfeed fan. I desperately want to be but have just not been able to get into a good "feeding" rhythm. Maybe I need to add some more friends
- Anant Gairola
I don't need to be addict. I'm just here, everyday, absorbing so many geeky info :D There's no place like FF
- Lysender
I'm still with ya, Robert. Whatever FB paid for FF, it wasn't enough!
- Donald C. Lindsay
New here, but learning. Tips for best use?
- Barbara Langham
@bdlangam From my perspective the #1 tip in this category is: Explore and define "best use" for yourself. Despite potential "finishing" impression of some productive consolidations in this collective-collaborative cognition space, the emergent #cognosphere is still WAY too nascent to assert anything other than initial impressions. March to the beat of your own drum; build your own...
- michael silverton
yeah sorry, late. was at Shambhala Music Festival, I know tardy, sorry...
- sofarsoShawn
I'm getting hooked, still figuring it all out
- Michele McGraw
I think I do. Not enough contacts to make a impression.
- Michael Schlag
Ok...so I believe there is nothing sexier than a beautiful woman who is also a geek or is beautiful and knows how to work on cars or beautiful and loves sports, or is amazing in a courtroom. Am I missing anything fellas? Ok...so Mona needs to be on there. Mona where is your picture!!
- Adriana
hahaha I was just kidding! I would rather be offered a guest spot on Gizmodo. ;)
- Mona Nomura
o m g. Talk about a gigidy-gigidy overload. Used to think Oliva was the hottest geek, but there's so many of them. God bless the internet. I think I need a kleenex. :-|
- Matthew Horton
Ok. Not sure about this. Is it post-modern and therefore ok to think objectification of women is cool? Plus, you have my fav Felicia Day in there, which confuses the matter even further. I either need to have more to drink, or something....
- WorldofHiglet
Didn't Wired do this sexy geeks thing a year ago, same people pretty much? It gets traffic, no doubt about it. Isn't that what this is really about for those involved? It works.
- jjprojects
agreed...if they had mona on there I would have so had her pciture up on the post :)
- (jeff)isageek
*starts loading up her spellbooks and component pouches and grabs her best sword*
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Why can't a women be smart, beautiful, and be respected for that without having to take most of her clothes off. Do we get the same thing for the sexy, smart techie guys? (Who would fit that category?) Sorry guys, but you're being kind of piggish.
-
So let me get this straight, just because "she" has a podcast she is a geek? Most of these I can get, but I'm not so sure some of these are a stretch.
- Ken Stewart | ChangeForge
We like to pretend that humans are enlightened, but we're still just animals at heart.
- LogEx
I was scrolling down waiting, waiting, waiting and there at the very bottom was Amber McArthur, the cutest geek of them all. And did you notice she had all her clothes on? Very impressive.
- Give 'Em DBizness
always a good post to come back to from time to time :)
- (jeff)isageek
Thank you Steven Perez, and Thank you Friendfeed, for keeping me coming to this incredible site, This video is one of the reason why I fell in love with Friendfeed :D
- George The Writer
Why, Johnny, Why?!?!?! Thanks for making this happen, Haggis!
- Jeanine W.
It was either that or a Marylin Monroe impersonation singing "Happy Birthday, Mr Perez-ident"
- Johnny Worthington
Awesome!!! I miss out on so much being away for a week or two!!! Damn You Steven Perez, it's your fault that I have been away!!!
- David Cook
A contortionist could probably get the underwear completely over his face. It almost makes me wish that That's Incredible! was still on the air. Fran Tarkenton could take this bit to the MOON! (If the Moon actually existed and wasn't fabricated by the Kennedy Administration, that is!)
- Akiva Moskovitz
I would much prefer to watch this event on ladies' night. Oh wait, that was Aerobicize in the 80's.
- Josh Haley
Josh, it's been out for a couple of weeks now, hopefully they will enable more features like 1ms30-45s for example, but still lots of potential for video conversations.
- Jason
I just know Mark shot flames from those scary eyes to catch that house on fire. I KNOW it!
- Ladybug Heather
Heather, these eyes are full of lasers. Just don't piss me off!
- Mark Wilson
*offers pan of fresh-baked lasagna, steps backward slowly, open hands in the air... wonders whether flashing boobs might be more effective, especially since it's legal to go topless in Ontario*
- Ladybug Heather
Great mustache! Hopefully, the one I'm currently working on looks as good as yours.
- Brad Williamson
I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to steal this idea from you and make some of my own. I hope you don't mind, cuz I'm definitely doin' it. I can't stop laughing! LOL! IJSMP!!!!
- Brad Williamson
I got 12 for 12. Got lucky on one I wasn't sure on (Iraq casualties)
- Mike Reynolds
Wish there were also International quizzes. And I wish there was a way to use quizzes to help motivate a person to a better understanding of world news. Kind of like the quizbot tells you, "You need to learn more about South America" etc.
- Mike Reynolds
I got 11 of 12. I thought Ford took bailout money too.
- Fred Yankowski
They got the lowest % correct on all 12 questions.
- Mike Reynolds
@Mike: Yeah, I got the Iraq Casualties one wrong, that was my miss.
- AJ Kohn
It's interesting, for all their access to information that the 18-29 group doesn't have this knowledge.
- AJ Kohn
Could be that national/world news has pretty much zero significance in US schools.
- Mike Reynolds
Yeah, which *is* a problem. Maybe instead of bringing a current event newspaper clipping it should be a current event blog post.
- AJ Kohn
12 for 12. Which puts me in the 94th percentile. Man, that 99th percentile is tough to crack.
- Hutch Carpenter
Humm, the casualty count was *only* for Iraq I guess. Iraq/Afghanistan is over 5K.
- AJ Kohn
Since the start of military action in Iraq, about how many U.S. military personnel have been killed? Around 2,300 Around 3,300 Around 4,300 Around 5,300
- Mike Reynolds
In any case, there's way too many US deaths in Iraq. We shouldn't have ever invaded. Our president at the time probably would have failed this Pew test. Wish the quiz would have asked, "Which is correct spelling: a) Nuclear and b) Nucular"
- Mike Reynolds
I'm from Argentina, and I got 11 out of 12. Economy is not my forte.
- Alejandro
10 of 12, Current event *dunce* factor ? I stopped reading the Drudge Report since finding FriendFeed,
- Eric Logan
@Mike: Yup, I know that site well. I guess I lumped Iraq and Afghanistan together. Splitting hairs, the question should read how many U.S. military personnel have been killed in the *Iraq* conflict. And yes, dreadful decision to invade Iraq, one I never supported. Afghanistan yet, Iraq no.
- AJ Kohn
AJ, upon re-reading the question, I side with you. It says since the Iraq War started, how many US military personnel have been killed? Note that no geography has been specific. Thus, any kills anywhere in the world would count. So, yes, since the Iraq War started, more than 5000 US military personnel have been killed. SO YOU ARE RIGHT!
- Mike Reynolds
Have you ever seen the movie "Happy-Go-Lucky"? My best friend out East watches it when she misses me.
- Nathalie, Dreamer of FF
I used to be pessimistic, thinking the worse, and why bother trying to do anything because it was just going to end up sucking, but my outlook is quite different now. Been working on that.
- Derrick
I try to be a realist. To be either pessimistic or optimistic is ignoring something.
- Tanath
I hope for the best and expect the worst.
- Steven Perez
I've been told that I'm both by different people. I guess I believe in possibility and trying to find a way out of the glass :)
- joey
I do what Steven Perez does. (I mean, I hope for the best & expect the worst. Not, "I do whatever Steven Perez does," because that would be kind of creepy.)
- josh neff, geek at large
I'm generally optimistic because the world tends to suckage without my bitching and moaning.
- Rick Cogley
Depends who you ask; I forsee all the bad things that can happen, but for the most part I am optimistic. For example, I will tell you that you will need more than that half empty glass of water to cross the desert, but I will also tell you that you are going to make it across
- RAPatton
I hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and recognize that my preparations should make things go smoothly. In other words, I think that the glass is half-empty, but I brought a water pitcher to fix that.
- Rishabh Mishra (p248)
I would love to say I am optimistic. But I think I am more of a pessimist.
- Violet Mae Lim
mostly apathetic but on the days I am not I am optimistic.
- Moved to Facebook
Pessimistic, and usually right, damn it.
- Robert Hafer
Optimistic. So why am I scowling, you ask... Simple, I grumble, my optimism is unfounded. (with a cheery tip of the hat to S. Beer)
- David HC Soul
from BuddyFeed
And as for that half full, half empty thing? ... just time to order another beer...
- David HC Soul
from BuddyFeed
Check out this hotel in Mexico - looks like my house I never finished building on SIMS 2 wtf!
- Mona Nomura
from Bookmarklet
Yep, this hotel is beautiful, is in Puebla, a city near the capital, Mexico city.
- George The Writer
So many people have this image of Mexico in their head -- people will be in for a HUGE shock when Mexican health care bypasses the American system. Any day now! ;)
- Mona Nomura
love George Kennedy in that movie. proly his best part ever.
- MikeAmundsen
It's true, Mike didn't give me the title though. Is that an extra trivia bonus?
- Phil G
Well, Jim gave the answer and won the game, technically :)
- Brome
I just realized that this movie has very little blue in it.
- Phil G
hold the phone... Phil, I'm rethinking my answer. I don't remember the stripey uniforms in Cool Hand, come to think of it. Is it Cool Hand Luke or O Brother...?
- Jim Hearts FF
Is it Cool Hand Luke or Oh Brother Where Art Thou?
- Alex Scoble
It's O Brother, Mike and Alex had it right. Sorry I didn't call it earlier.
- Phil G
I was sure it was Cool Hand Luke... but Jim's right, there's no stripey uniforms in there
- Brome
The movie does go from full B&W through sepia toned (screenshot, above) to full color, albeit post-processed, until scenes with the sirens and the ending which returns to B&W
- Phil G
Interesting fact, Phil. I wonder how many movies have a combination of B&W, sepia or/and color.
- Brome
I'm still waiting for my check Kol! :)
- directeur
Kol - I have you in 5 lists - Best of day, favorites, Men on FF, Tech and Entertainment. You also have two rows of icons making your feed a fire hose of information.
- Russellreno
Jandy, Twitter I'm interacting more but there is a fundamental flaw in Twitter in that the 'in reply to' only works randomly. If this worked and we could have proper threaded conversations then I'd use it a lot more. At the moment, it's hard to follow replies.
- Kol Tregaskes
Internet has always loved people who 'talk about nothing' ;-)
- ◄ani625Ξ
I think it's the name... very cool name, Kol.
- Trish Haley
Trish, it's just "Colin" spelt with a K and Tregaskes is Cornish, so nothing fancy. :-) But thanks though. :-D
- Kol Tregaskes
You should ask this question on Twitter.
- Mike Shields
you are refreshingly free of snark and, at least in my experience, wholly free of any sort of mean-spiritedness. You interact with nobodies like me politely and without any condescension. For example, during the whole beta launch and transition, you had some fairly strong recommendations and opinions about stuff that could have been done better, but I can't remember a single instance of...
- Jim Hearts FF
Well that's very kind of you, Jim. No, I'm not interested in being nasty and can deal with nastiness from others as I've had lots of practice with my Dad - I've got a high tolerance level from my experiences too. And you can express your opinion or get your point over but it's down to how you do it. I don't think I'm perfect at that but I'm learning and trying it all the time.
- Kol Tregaskes
No, I don't care who you are, I'll talk to anyone, hehe. My Twitter following is not up to 1,492 now. I still don't think I'm too interesting but hey there you go, hehe. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Because you the most advanced AI i came across on the internet.
- Remo
I need to state for the record that my birthday wishes on FF are in the form of a like. You're extra special if you get a personalised message! However whilst I'm here...Happy Not Dead Yet Day MWM!
- Toby Graham
Happy Birthday, Sweetheart!!!!! <3333 :-D
- Anna Haro
If there is one word that describes someone who sees, recognizes and shares the big picture I don't happen to know what it is. THAT is what Louis does and extremely well I might add.
- Internet Strategist
And this movie drives me nuts, too. I can't just watch it once and call it a night. I sit there, rewinding to certain places trying to figure out how many timelines run through the story. If any movie makes me believe that I have OCD, it's this movie.
- Steven Perez
from IM
It is an awesome movie, but I'm turning it off now. The last time I watched it, it took seven hours of my life and filled a notebook. I was convinced I had figured how many timelines these two knuckleheads created (17) before I threw the notebook away.
- Steven Perez
Always wanted to see it, but it seemed to be quite divisive amongst people I knew who saw it.
- Derrick
Just watched that this weekend. Awesome flick.
- Graham English
It's brilliant, in that it doesn't soft-pedal the science or try to boil it down so that the least scientific of us can understand it. But it can be maddening if you think about it too long.
- Steven Perez
from IM
Yet Netflix only gives it 2 stars. Should I trust your recommendations and rent it or figure 2 stars is a kiss of death? BTW- I like science flicks generally and hard science fiction.
- Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)
Hmmm, tough call. Trust some dude on FriendFeed, or trust the collective wisdom of renters on Netflix, some of whom had to be among the millions of people who spent $10+ a ticket to see PAUL BLART MALL COP ($112 million and climbing!)? Decisions, decisions ... :)
- Steven Perez
from IM
And for the record: got no beef what anyone else's taste in movies may be, but seriously, $10 to see Kevin James act goofy? I can save that money by renting a season of THE KING OF QUEENS and watching his antics in the comfort of my own home.
- Steven Perez
from IM
Crap, and I did this one again today. I don't know my FF Guess What I'm WAtching history
- Bwana ☠
I only seem to use it when twitter is down. A better iPhone app might bring me around more often more "reader" like features (ie, let me add feeds and info that only I see like my google reader subscriptions and all of the tweets from my account on twitter)
- Scott Watermasysk
If it's not on friendfeed, I'm not interested, Thomas. :)
- Alex Scoble
Best ignore those that think they know what is going on and preach about it.
- CW™
Uhh oh, don't I act like that sometimes, CW? *goes and cries in a corner*
- Alex Scoble
Your a scoble.. I don't think you can help it. ;) But you back up your statements, allow others the chance to change your mind and not go off to a Ashram and sulk when people complain about you. ;)
- CW™
People are complaining about me? *goes and cries in a corner*
- Alex Scoble
You mean yesterday's news Arrington ??? Or today's embargo Arrington?
- David HC Soul
I just read Arrington's post and commented via FriendFeed (not to make any philosophical point, but because I'm on an older mobile phone right now using fftogo). While I had some quibbles, the fact remains that there are far fewer FriendFeed users than there are Facebook users. Then again, there are far fewer Twitter users than Facebook users, so simplicity isn't everything...
- John E. Bredehoft
from fftogo
The word I heard him use was "nobody", not "fewer", "nobody"...Perhaps I'm wrong though...either way, I don't care. I find friendfeed to be eminently more entertaining and useful than Twitter or Facebook.
- Alex Scoble
I'm going with Scoble, and betting on this horse. This new UI is just a thing of beauty. This is how it should be. They're the ones who've found the Grail Castle. This is it right here. I'm just loving it.
- Web Nex
Here. But off to bed soon. Back later. G'nite, FF.
- Lisa L. Seifert
Love the new beta. Really nice job to Team FF!
- Marc Chung
Wow, a whole ~120 people ... over 5 hours. I used to play on MUDs 10+ years ago with more simultaneous users. FF is 98% Scoble-hype noise, 2% RSS crawling.
- Dossy Shiobara
@bec rowe - fine, I'll be generous, suppose there's a whole ORDER OF MAGNITUDE more users, 10x or 1,200 ... this is a big deal? Most major IRC networks each have 60k+ concurrent users and that's tech that's 15+ years old now.
- Dossy Shiobara
for such a "new and improved" UI, why do I have to scroll ALL the way back up to click the "comment" link? what, did none of the UX people think "gee, putting it at the bottom of the list of comments would be a good idea"?
- Dossy Shiobara
seriously, people, stop being sheep. FF is cute but it's a pet rock.
- Dossy Shiobara
Exactly -- I come here to escape from Facebook and when I want more conversation than Twitter :) Sheep we are not. ;)
- Mona Nomura
I have 3 tabs locked into the first three positions of my always-open Firefox window: Google Reader, Gmail and you guessed it... FriendFeed.
- Brooks Bishop
Absolutley! Great aggregator, but have to use Twirl or other app at work
- Jonathan Decker
from twhirl
Who the hell is Michael Arrington, and why should I give two tugs of a dead dog's cock what he thinks?
- Steven Perez
damn you steven perez... speak ya mind for a change!!! ;o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
Perez: Some meatbag with an overblown sense of self importance
- Mo Kargas
Arrington is a Web 1.0 dinosaur trying to make himself relevant still by being Jerry Springer without the entertainment value.
- Bob M. Montgomery
from twhirl
Just to note: I know damn well who Arrington is. He's that meatsack whose website couldn't hold its load for a few hours. But I'm serious about not caring what he thinks.
- Steven Perez
that's r scoble too mo... ooops I'll get bashed! :o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
something tells me THIS proves how little he uses this place ;o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
That's OK, I get the sense that most people here couldn't care less. :) We use friendfeed because we like it, not because some A-Lister that doesn't even participate here thinks we should or shouldn't.
- Alex Scoble
Shouldn't this be on a TC post since all those comments will be sucked into the blog itself?
- coldbrew
agreed alex, if you watch your brother's video of the pre-beta walk through from last weekend, mike was there, engaged and asked good questions of bret and paul, but then he goes off and belittles ff & those using it - immature or trollish not sure which it is...
- mike "glemak" dunn
But Alex.. your bro is a supposed A-lister...
- Rob Sellen :o)
dunn: Arrington is providing feedback. I'm sure team-FF can handle it.
- coldbrew
yeah the feedback he provides is..."the worse way to use friendfeed" :o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
My brother also participates here a lot, so when he says something is great or sucks here he has some authority...certainly a lot more authority on the subject than you know who.
- Alex Scoble
i am and its soo much better. Tell mike the tech rumors are better here, too.
- Roberto Bonini
my head hurts. || button is my friend
- Todd Randolph
Right on Alex! To enhance what I said yesterday, FriendFeed is the "coolest app" to consume information on the Internet and interact with smart people.
- Eric Berlin
Nah, I never use FriendFeed. FriendFeed uses me! Don't ask.
- Brad Butner
from twhirl
*rolls eyes* Outlandish statements are how Arrington moves the space. It doesn't matter how the space moves, as long as it moves, then Arrington can remora off it. He doesn't care who wins or how his little bombs affect anyone, just as long as it moves somewhere. He's like a weapons dealer who foments the extension of wars so he can sell the weapons to both sides.
- Matthew DeVries
It's Michael Arrington. His ego is the size of the Sun and is infinitely expanding like the universe. All I hear is "blah blah blah blah blah blah blah."
- Zach Flauaus
My thread was first and my brother was just being a copycat. First!
- Alex Scoble
Put both threads in a room, and similpost in both. The power of the exponent!
- Matthew DeVries
yep, that Scoble is a copycat !! :)-
- Peter Dawson
I think the only way to settle this is with a good old fashioned slap fight. Or a drinking contest... Either way we need video of it.
- Joe Pierce
But I said "First!" That's the internet beat down right there.
- Alex Scoble
more comments than likes? how can that be... you commenter's who have yet to like...like.. and those who have yet comment...comment..and like ;o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
I'm down with FreindFeed. My usage has skyrocketed since the beta launch.
- Tim
Yes. Put them just before the timestamp, right above where the smiley face shows up if an item has likes, or in the lower right corner of the profile pic.
- Ken Sheppardson
yes, move them somewhere they don't take up a whole column
- Carlos Morgado
No. Rather, I want some "intelligent" content preview. Article, picture, video or audio? How long is the article? From a magazine, newspaper or blog? That kind of stuff would be nice to know. The particular service doesn't interest me much, the type of content all the more.
- Meryn Stol
yes. and better, as an option. ..now can we have a "normal" voting/poll facility?
- Petr Buben
I can live with either approach, so small icons and/or user-option to turn on large icons. Also like Meryn's content preview idea, somewhat like cover flow I suppose.
- Micah Wittman
I would say yes, but where would they go? I think the interface might get cluttered with them in there.
- Aaron Hood
I think the logic behind having them go away makes a lot of sense; makes everything feel much more unified; if there was a unified way to respond to the external service it would be even better.
- Bill Rawlinson
Definitely YES. Unified when you want it is good. When you don't want it, it sucks. Either bring back the icons so you can scan for posts from a certain service or bring back the service filter buttons to eliminate all that you don't want or bring back BOTH so the user has control over their own environment in which to work. Having the small service icons go only TO the service source is a waste and takes you out of the FF environment.
- B.E. (BJ) Johnson
yes. had a post from Facebook that caused confusion because of the lack of them.
- Kamilah Gill
It's looking like 95%/5% In favor of bringing the service icons back, with a sample size of almost 200. By no means is this scientific, but we're approaching real numbers here, not even considering all the other items which are also overwhelmingly in support of restoring the icons.
- Mr. Gunn
Joelle, you are not the only exception. After couple of days of using the new FF I don't miss them at all. I've noticed that I really don't care anymore what's the source of the post.
- Tapio Kulmala
yes - it's not the icons themselves that I need so much as the ability to filter by service. I often want to see ONLY a particular person's blog posts, or tweets, or photos, or songs, or movies.
- Laura Norvig
are we saying in lieu of profile pics? cause then I would vote no... but it would be nice to see them next to the time stamp or something like that.
- Frankie Warren
note that you can still filter by service without the favicons being showns...
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
@Joelle - how, exactly? By creating a heap of filters fo each service? That's the only way I can see and it's way less convenient than just hitting the icon.
- Neil Saunders
Yes I am interested as well- how can you filter by service using the new interface?
- Brian Sullivan
to everyone who is saying yes, I'd say: wait for a week or so with the new interface, and then answer again. But I agree, at first glance the service icons seem to be needed... but most likely, only because we were used to them, and not because they were really needed...
- Paulo Gomes
Yes or a greasemonkey script would be cool
- Sarah Perez
FriendFeed Poll customization hack (just a proof of concept that at this point only works for this very "poll post" by Kol): http://wittman.org/project... Place in a GreaseMonkey script or just copy and paste it right into the Firebug console input. It currently reports: Y:204 | N:23 | Other:7
- Micah Wittman
no - not necessary. Focus on the CONTENT :) that is what matters most.
- Susan Beebe
Ok, I did up the regex and updated the friendfeedPoll script here: http://wittman.org/project... - the numbers are more accurate now and unknowns are listed so they can be evaluated manually.
- Micah Wittman
friendfeedPoll calculation as of now: (Of 268): Y:216 | N:21 | (?):31
- Micah Wittman
