I'm really looking forward to this miniseries. I watched the original a lot as a kid and have a lot of very bizarre memories of it. It was surreal and mysterious before I knew what those things even meant. - veo
Unless it is 'for Vengence' I have no interest in V. I do hope they can make a good remake of The Prisoner, but it was such a quirky product of its time I'm not sure it'll work today, especially if they try to make it 'mainstream'. - Berial

An Open Letter To Whoever Controls The Fate Of FriendFeed - http://www.johnnyworthington.com/...
Whoever
To Whom It May Concern, If I was writing a movie based around the current scene at FriendFeed, I would cast you as the big, evil corporation and all of us FriendFeeders as the people at the community centre standing in the way of ‘progress’. But I don’t write movies and, frankly, Channel 7 News isn’t [...] - Johnny Worthington
"FriendFeed is more than a few noisy tech bloggers. While I agree that there is thick filling of tech and social media content here, it sits on a delicious base of personalities and personal connections. Over the 18 months I have been here, I have seen births, deaths and marriages. I have watched children grow, others fight cancer, couples fall in love and felt very real support through my own family issues. I have emotional currency in here, and I am sorely in debt." - Roberto Bonini
Well said Johnny. Well said. - Roberto Bonini
Thanks, Johnny. - Eric Logan
You said it much better than I ever could. - Dennis Jernberg
Well said sir. - Simon Wicks

Thought Provoking. They are making a movie about FaceBook, so why not FriendFeed, that is the one I would rather queue for. - Kevin J Hatton
Robert Scoble's recent words about the future of FriendFeed were meant as a call to arms by him (although that has just become clear). This is my first salvo... - Johnny Worthington
Thank you for serving up this good food for thought and call for action! Here is a meme that might be helpful for the effort - while "FriendFeed: the Company" may be history ... "FriendFeed the Concept" may be the future. It may make as good a verb as it does a noun - like "to google" has become synonymous with search, "to friendfeed" can become the core SN function. Maybe some motivation for FF owners to guide their legacy to this logical conclusion. - Dan Freeman
I have a feeling I'm being gently shepherded to Facebook. The problem is, I use Facebook for real ife friends and family, and high school classmates. So I don't quite know how to make the transistion. - Ted Gilchrist

Johnny - I am new to FF (and most all social media) and arrived only due to the influence of a friend that I wanted to follow (a few months ago I didn't even know what "follow" meant!) ....what I found was an interesting, informative, less commercial site that I now go to numerous times a day. I think your letter precisely expressed the sentiments of most FF'ers new and old....I hope someone was listening!! Thanks for the great effort and I, for one, second that emotion! - Sharland Allen
Because I'm not all scripty and junk the comment I made over on Johnny's blog won't come over here, so I've copied it instead: "Well said, Johnny. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask what the future holds. Paul Buchheit did say things would carry on but the implication was that it would develop into something new. Change is scary, and unclear change doubly so. When Robert Scoble said... more... - WorldofHiglet

For the record I NEVER have said that FriendFeed is in danger of disappearing. At least not soon. I'm not worried about that. I'm more worried that FriendFeed isn't evolving and will soon be matched by other systems (including Facebook, which is where Paul works now). Because I see that happening I have moved a lot of my time to other systems like Twitter and Facebook because I've... more... - Robert Scoble
johnny why do you have default permalinks? you can change them to the ones including post names. would be searchable SEO they say - ffcode
If I were worried about the servers being turned off I'd stop using this as an aggregator too. Right now I'm bringing all my Twitter Favorites in here which makes them searchable (they aren't searchable on Twitter). That's a HUGE advantage to FriendFeed for the moment. But I know Facebook and Twitter are working on search and Twitter and Facebook just made a deal with Bing. - Robert Scoble

lol - Cee Bee
Aww, I hope I'm not offending anyone by not including them on the list. Many times I just go by the avatar and if it's a cartoon or something it's hard to tell and I won't put on here, and also these are just *my* personal tastes. Everyone has different types! - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Any woman with the brass to be on FF is a hottie in my book. - Chris Baskind
Wow - that'd be a drag to be on a list like that. Still, as I always say, if you want to get a lot of followers get a hot chick avatar. It's sad but it's iJustine. True! I mean true. It's sad but it's true. - Ciaoenrico
++ Chris! - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Lindsay and Sarah I will agree with however I will not like this cause there is no MONA! - Shawn aka ringking

Yay! I'm married to a hottie! - Internet's Tad

Happy to see everyone there, a few in particular ;) - Timothy Griffin
I'd hide it too, if my sense of fairness didn't kick in...So these are just women? Where are the MALE hotties of FF. :p ;) - Helen Sventitsky
The picture is too small to see. Am I on it? - Martha
@Helen Start up the Male Hotties list yourself! I find men hairy and repulsive. :D - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
LOL MARTHA!! - Mona Nomura
I wonder... Would I be on the male hotties list? :p - Chris, Taskerrific Guy
hahahaha.... when's the calendar coming out? - Thomas Hawk
@Thomas hahahaha - Shevonne
Ciaoenrico I kinda take offense to that. My avatar is me, it's my face and I shared it on FF after a LOT of thought about it (plus some gender confusion, but that's another story). Because a woman might be considered attractive she *shouldn't* user her face as an avatar otherwise she's just trying to get followers? Bull crap, and sexist to boot. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
@Tina +++++ - Shevonne
@Sean, I couldn't agree more. :D Tina, YAY! - Helen Sventitsky
Agreed, Tina. That certainly wasn't the point of this list - it was merely a way to point out all of my FF crushes at once. I hope no one takes offense to it. :( - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I'm offended....I wasn't on this effing list!! - jamar78
Sean, I'm not offended, personally. I find it rather amusing. The title of this post, to me, however, seemed rather "definitive". YMMV. :D - Helen Sventitsky
I mean my sis' made list sheesh!! - jamar78
I think I'm due for a new picture. I've used the same one since joining. - Rochelle
Rochelle, you had that other one, the B&W one of you smiling. That was great, too - Josh Haley
Quite a collection. There should be a male list too but then that could lead to a match-making game and apps being developed and other memes ... and ... oh dear ... - Amani
I'm not a crush, eh? :P - Tamar Weinberg
@Amani is that what you wanted to talk to me about? Creating that app? haha - Shevonne
We totally need a boys list, totally. And I'll pretend I'm not crying in a corner over here. - Bec Rowe @d0tski
I don't know how I feel about this... - Derrick
Dammit.. I'm about to delete this post. It was not my intention to hurt anyone's feelings. :( - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I don't think it's a problem pointing out your crushes, hun. I think it's the fact that it's titled "The Hotties of FriendFeed" that can make people kind of uncomfy. That comes across as a direct judgment of peoples' looks, even though we know you didn't mean it that way. - tinypants - Hagitha of FF
@Sean don't ever apologize for your actions. - Shevonne
Okay, I think I understand.. Thanks Amanda.. I just updated the title, hopefully it will let everyone know that this is my own personal list, and by no means a judgement of anyone. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
It's not my scene, but hey...whatevs. It just feels a little meat market-ish to me. People aren't avatars, and I know a couple on the list who wouldn't be proud of being reduced to a FF hottie on someone's list. - Derrick
This whole thing spun out of control rapidly. Impressive. - Mike Nayyar
Okay, I hope this is better: http://friendfeed.com/e... - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Derrick - But a lot of the stuff you post to the really gay room is pretty meat market-ish. Just because they're professional models it's okay to objectify them? We naturally objectify each other because we naturally are sexual creatures. I'm not offended by being on this list, but I don't like being objectified and I think what Haggis has done is a sweet gesture, not a gesture of blind testosterone rubbing one out. - Mattie Kenny
Didn't anyone see me grab the popcorn earlier? That's your 1st clue. - Josh Haley
I'm not offended at all btw :) - Tamar Weinberg
Thx Matsie <3 - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
LOL - Pedram
Sean you created a monster didn't you....hehe - jamar78
Ugh.. no kidding.. I guarantee this list will never be mentioned again outside of these posts. I think i'm gonna unplug for a while and let this all die down. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
ok i just now read the whole thread damnit i always miss everything lol joel... ::shakes head:: u kno to some i'm not a lil sister lol ur so funny i luv u! - Cardeen Martinez
don't let it get to you Sean....all that matters is that you had no malicious intent which you didn't - jamar78
**blushes** - gee thanks. :) And go hide for a while, Sean... it'll all blow over. - Jen (SquirrelGirl)
nice list, i have about half of these in a group called "sexy people" - sean percival
My list is called "I would hit it" =) J/K. - ld
Mattie, any pics I post in the Really Gay Room are A) *in* the Really Gay Room, and B) pictures culled from sites that are meat-marketish to begin with. I would never post pics of Scoble or Louis Gray and say, "oh these are guys I'd like to see naked". And I'm not knocking Sean. I freakin' love Sean. But I also know that there are women on the list who've worked hard at getting to where they are in life and in their careers and to be thought of as a pin-up on FF isn't their bag. - Derrick
It's about time you chimed in Leather...LMAO...love it...haha - jamar78
Leather Donut, Don't ever change! :) - Michelle Martinez
Spurred by Michelle, I hereby promise that I will remain true... - ld
I second her notion...hehe - jamar78
I don't see how posting this in a room would make it any different a situation, Derrick. I don't think that Sean ever said he wanted to see any of the women on the list naked. Is that something I skipped over while scanning the comments? If he said that, then yes. This list is pretty lame. But being admired for your beauty isn't bad. Especially since (for me at least) being a hottie entails being incredibly intelligent and engaging. - Mattie Kenny
Mattie, that's exactly what I consider a hottie. Attractiveness is only part of the factor. Intelligence, a sense of humor, and many other things go into that equation. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
+100 Mattie -- There's always a fine line of taste when these things come into play. These are our normal avatar pics, not semi-nude pics, not anything gratuitous. That's what i think keeps it on the good side of the line. It's really just an innocent list. - Lindsey is Fierce!
I see a potential calendar. - Paul
Mattie, I'm not going to fight with you over this. If you want to split ends, say I'm a hypocrite, or engage in double standards, feel free. I don't care. Very simply, I know people who don't want to be referred to as hotties. By anyone. I see them on the list. I speak up. That's it. There are 50 people in the RGR, maybe 20 people see it regularly. That's a HUGE difference than the numbers of people who sub to the home feed. But you know what? Forget I even opened my mouth. Apparently I've become a prude... - Derrick
That's not what I'm saying, Derrick. Now I understand what you meant by putting the photos up in the RGR versus what Haggis did. Did these women speak up for themselves and say they don't appreciate being called attractive? - Mattie Kenny
<3 Derrick.. I appreciate what you are saying, and think it's very commendable that you are seeing this from an angle I didn't really see. I know you only have the best intentions with what you are saying. Please no more fighting over this.. - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I just happen to know them, Mattie. And I didn't say they didn't appreciate being called attractive. I said they, knowing them as I do, woudn't appreciate being culled up on a list and pointed out for the world to ogle. - Derrick
Sean, you know how I feel about you bud, and I'm not putting you on blast. Consider my hands washed of it. - Derrick
Mattie, how about you look at it from the flip side...those women who DIDN'T make the list and don't have the benefit of feeling all bubbly inside because they've been deemed "attractive"? It's all well and good when you're on the winning team, apparently. - tinypants - Hagitha of FF
yeah Sean you are a good person....don't beat yourself up about it - jamar78
Although you better take my sis' out this damn list!! hehe - jamar78
Awesome post, Sean! - George The Writer
Amanda - I don't think not being on the list deems you unattractive and I don't think Haggis is the be all end all of who is or is not attractive. Wow. I'm on the list. BFD. I don't feel or bubbly inside, nor did I take it very seriously. It didn't blip in my radar until I saw people taking major offense to Haggis having posted the list, in which case I looked at it & was surprised to see myself there. I'm not on any "team". - Mattie Kenny
Haggis, I love the conversations you spawn... feel free to include me in future provocative topics. ~xxxooo~ - Far
I would like to state for the record, should there be a men's list...I would like to opt out. That is all, thank you. - Christian (Simply X)
Ok gents, let's show the ladies how we roll. (and can someone email me that info ahead of time, so I look like I know what I'm doing?) - Morgan Haley
Oh too funny. Thanks for including me, Sean. ;-) - Jennifer Leggio

Ok my cat is really pist off...didn't make the cut...gees! LOL - Susan Beebe
Aaaw, Sean! <3 - Nia
This list is approved, mainly because one certain hottie is the better half :) Sean, not only do you represent a great product, but also exceptional taste. Sir, I owe you a drink! ;) - Matt Harwood
I'm amazed that neither Lisa Bettany nor Sarah Lacy are showing up in any of these clique building seminar visual aides. - Matthew DeVries
Ok I am not the brightest crayon in the box so I want to know how the hell do you see a list of people like that. I have different lists but where do I go to see all in just that one list? - Brandy Lea
Brandy, you see this view when you go into one of your lists then select to Add/Remove friends. - Kol Tregaskes
I think what Brandy is asking is if she can see someone else's list, which we can't. Haggis might have made a list that is friendfeed.com/list/hotties and he'll see it when he's logged in, but no one else would see it if they went to that same URL. He wouldn't even see it if he logged out and went to that URL. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Saw this comin'. Nice job Sean :) - Charlie Anzman
Hey, what am I doing there??? I just saw it now :| - Bibi
Booyah! - Josh Haley
LOL Josh. I was waiting for someone to do this. :D - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Don't you miss the way the groups used to display pictures like this? I wish they'd bring this functionality back - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Glad I didn't make the list lol - Jeunelle Foster
I don't think I was subscribed to you when I made this list, Jeunelle. This is almost a year old! :D - Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Don't misunderstand what I mean. I mean I am thankful I didn't make the list period. PRAISE THE LORD :) - Jeunelle Foster
We should have an Academy Award of FriendFeed or something. That I would have a long ass speech prepared telling everybody how I'd like to thank all the little people who were responsible for me winning that award and it should be sponsored by Mashable and FFundercats :) - Jeunelle Foster
How the FF did I miss this thread? Jan 27th??? Thank you! That's a huge compliment. And since it's so old, it's a fun time capsule too. - Ginger Makela Riker

ah! and I was wondering why my twitter vanity search hit on that topic as I do not like the air apps. but grouping actually would be a reason to try it out. problem: as long as twitter decimates the request rates it is unreliable, but a first step in the right direction. will download it now ;) - Nicole Simon
Louis, I think you're right - there is still innovation happening around Twitter, fortunately. The fact is there is still a huge audience on Twitter and that audience still has the potential to be monetized. I'm even building something around Twitter at the moment. There is still that threat though, that developers could leave if Twitter keeps neglecting them - it's in the back of the mind - Jesse Stay
"feels" like Twhirl. Wish it had FF support...if it does it wasn't obvious from the website. I agree with others that I'd really like to see these Adobe air apps with some better skins - Rob Neville from twhirl
"Now, now, Jeff. I mentioned in the article that I typically prefer native apps or Web apps to AIR apps, but this one is very interesting, at least to me." - That's part of why I like the platform so much. Most people like native apps but AIR apps are pretty easy to build so there's bound to be a few that people really like. (Ryan - rstewart@adobe.com) - Ryan Stewart

Robert Scoble
The most damning thing is that no one from the FriendFeed team or Facebook has joined the community here that is talking about it to tell us what's happening in the future. That, more than anything I've written or said communicates the future of FriendFeed.
I keep hoping someone will tell me I'm wrong and will post a slide deck about the future of FriendFeed. But the lack of information is confirming what I'm hearing from my sources. - Robert Scoble
So true - nail in the coffin! :(... - Susan Beebe from BuddyFeed
It's Sunday. - Anika
Anika: geeks in both companies are online and working on a Sunday and last night is NOT the first time I've been talking about the lack of direction here. Also, over the last week lots of blogs have been posting about the traffic hit that FriendFeed has already seen. - Robert Scoble
If there really was a team working on FriendFeed you BET they would contact us on a Sunday. They used to in this old days. - Robert Scoble
Remember, Facebook has a PR team of more than 10 people. You think they aren't watching what people are saying about Facebook nearly 24/7? Not in my experience. They are the most engaged PR team in a new company I know of. - Robert Scoble
The reality is that this is still a very useful service, and people stay because of the functionality and the community. There is no other service out there that accomplishes what this one does. There is still nowhere else to go. - LogEx
LogEx: that's true, but it's also true that most people will go places where there's a clear future. Unless it's just to post non-consequential things. Me? This is both my fun time (which is why I'm still here) as well as my business (I won't be betting any of my business decisions on doing stuff here because of this lack of direction which tells me that no one is really working on FriendFeed actively anymore). - Robert Scoble
Robert, I understand the perhaps reasonable conclusions you're reaching, but breaking the silence could send too much signal to FB's competition when they'd rather send more silence which ends up, really, being noise. - Micah Wittman
FriendFeed is like an old dying dog left out in the pasture alone; abandoned by its Master to die in the silence. - Susan Beebe from BuddyFeed
Most social network content is ephemeral. If people really want their stuff to have a clear future, they should own and host it on their own domains. - LogEx
Robert, so maybe you're not giving their PR _enough_ credit. It's speculation on my part, granted. - Micah Wittman
Micah: sorry, that dog don't run. Healthy companies signal future directions, even under NDA. It would be pretty easy to meet with a few members of the community, NDA them, and tell them what's going on. If Louis Gray came on here and told me he's under NDA and that I'm wrong then I'd feel much better. The truth is I've talked with people inside Facebook and I know what the former FriendFeed team is working on. Hint: it isn't FriendFeed. - Robert Scoble
Logex - yup! - Susan Beebe from BuddyFeed
I still wish they'd make it open source or something so that people could continue to develop on it. :S - Her Lindsay-ness
Susan, I don't think "human master - canine pooch" analogy really applies to Friendfeed team - community that's formed. - Micah Wittman
By the way, Facebook meets with bloggers/journalists all the time to give us secret hints at what's coming. I've been to Facebook several times this year for just that. Facebook has no serious competition, by the way, so they don't make PR decisions based on what Twitter is doing. - Robert Scoble
I guess I'm not most people then. If I find something that works, I prefer to stay put as long as it meets my needs. New things are nice, but I don't have time to constantly try out new services to see if they are better that what I am presently using. (That's why I follow people like Robert ;-)) The new shiny service would have to be significantly better than what I presenlty use to make me want to switch. - Jeff P. Henderson
Do you have any services that offer the same functionality, are widely available, and actually have a future, Robert? How about offering a solution for once instead of just bitching? - LANjackal
Robert. Can you reveal the information you have from your sources. Discussions where one person has information they won't reveal is frankly frustrating. If you have some inside knowledge yet continue to make statements like this and FriendFeed is dead? then it really is frustrating to the community. - Johnny Worthington from iPhone
If your business is posting to social media, and you think your content is "consequential" based on how long it will be around on the web ... I think you've misunderstood the current moment in social media. - Joel Bennett
There's much less interaction than there used to be - but I still have faith in the users. This (was) is a vibrant and interesting place to be - and that's testament not only to the people that made the site, but also to the people who breathed life into it. I'll be following friendfeed still, but i'll also be following the friendfeeders i've met here. I'm not sure where the future is, but it'll be something to do with the people here. I'm sure of that. - Iain Baker
+1 - LANjackal from IM
Micah - lack of innovation and development on FF platform will cause obsolesence soon. Social web apps must innovate or die. When Facebook acquired FF, we all knew that FF would wind down due to this. Communities will migrate to current platforms that meet their needs. I am sensing a large contingent of the FF community is about to leave FF, myself included. - Susan Beebe from BuddyFeed
Re Tina: IIRC she got laid off and is prolly busy trying to find new employment - LANjackal from IM
@Susan: "social web apps must innovate or die" really? tell that to Twitter, lol - LANjackal from IM
Robert, did Wolfram-Alpha indicate their future direction being a $50 iphone app? All I'm saying is Facebook's strategy may include support to FF that's not in a time-frame worth pushing through PR yet. - Micah Wittman
My favorite thing about this whole "Facebook is dead, move on" campaign is that these guys are basically just trying to shoe you BACK to the service they talked most of you OFF of in the first place: Twitter. I'm still looking for their motivation. - Joel Bennett
Only one thing to say. Jaiku - Moved to Facebook
FB is dead? Anyone who's saying that in view of their soaring stats and the roaring success that FB Connect has been needs their head examined - LANjackal from IM
The way I see it, Robert, your constant bitching and declaring friendfeed dead is what is killing the community. While the software it runs on may be dead, the community is not. I have to separate it and explain it to you, because you don't seem to understand the difference and how being a vocal part of this community affects it. The more you put it down, the more people won't come here... more... - April Russo (app103)
^ My thoughts exactly. http://friendfeed.com/friendf... - LANjackal from IM
Susan, social web apps need utility/affection by a set of users. If cutting/bleeding edge aficionados is the particular user set in question, then what you said generally holds true. But it's not the general case unless a true replacement (in this case for FF) is available. - Micah Wittman
I don't think he's killing the community, he's just killing the community's participation with him. - Alex Scoble
Robert. Can you advise the information you have from your sources? - Johnny Worthington
I am stuck in the middle on this one... - Allen Stern
Fair point, Alex. I think this issue needs the two Scobles to put their heads together and clear the air. - Micah Wittman
Naw...I like friendfeed. I'm not going anywhere as long as my friends are here. - Alex Scoble
Me neither :) - LANjackal from IM
Amen, Alex. - Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)
Is Friendfeed dying ( if it is) because of it being purchase by Facebook, or by members reaction to that purchase? Did people forecast the death of Friendfeed and then leave, therefore creating the exact scenario they predicted. - Kim Landwehr
That's exactly what happened - LANjackal from IM
Robert, doesn't this put the denouement on the donkey for all those who thought it too sharp a call to say what was going on in that sale and before it? It seemed fairly clear to me what had been going on mainly from seeing the actions at the time of the sale and "doing the math". As Aristotle said: "Plot is character" - Melanie Reed
Some times the lab rats do understand and stop sniffing for the cheese, looking up at the lab coats above them with a knowing twitch of the whisker. - Melanie Reed
Can FriendFeed be another StumbleUpon two years later? http://stumbleupon.com/sublog... EDIT: "I don't want it happen though. I hope FFers let me entertain us again on FB" (excerpted from http://ff.im/6pO0a in Japanese) - NaHi from f2p
I'm more of a social media *consumer* than I am a participant. From a consumer's point of view, FF is more interesting than its competitors. A nice place to hang out, enjoy, learn, and sometimes discuss. Less guesswork is involved in deciding whether to click through to sources. From a consumer's perspective, as long as it remains interesting there won't be a reason to move on. - howard shippin from BuddyFeed
Johnny: yes, my sources inside Facebook tell me that the FriendFeed team has been split apart and is working on Facebook items only. So far no one has refuted that. - Robert Scoble
April: you can believe that I'm personally killing the community but that really is giving me far more power than I actually have. The community has dramatically changed in the last two months. The alpha geeks I follow and that I build my business around have largely left. Everytime I meet geeks at conferences they tell me they are not spending as much time on FriendFeed as they did before the sale to Facebook and that the lack of direction from the team is largely responsible for that. - Robert Scoble
And, April, if you read my blog post you'll see that I believe a new community is already moving in here -- one that doesn't care if the technology will see new features. - Robert Scoble
I'm not on FB that much, but do people from their team actually get involved on the site? Is that even possible, with the privacy controls? I said it on another thread: you can't serve two masters. If FB is paying the bills now, that's probably where erstwhile FF staff must spend their time. - .LAG liked that
I agree with Robert here - Matthew DeVries
.LAG: yes. I have dozens of Facebook employees as friends over on Facebook and they do engage all over the place. - Robert Scoble
.LAG: the head of PR at Facebook, Brandee Barker, even has a Twitter account: http://twitter.com/faceboo... and there are TONS of employees who hang out on both Twitter and Facebook like Dave Morin, head of Facebook's platform team. - Robert Scoble
Kim: I did one of the first interviews with the FriendFeed and Facebook teams after the sale was announced (within the first hour) and even then you could tell that Facebook had no plans for FriendFeed's technology and mostly wanted the team. The fact that Gary Burd (who ran the Google Talk team and is VERY influential in Seattle technology) has already left speaks VOLUMES to what is going on behind the scenes. Guys like Gary don't leave if they are having fun and making a huge impact. - Robert Scoble
April - Robert actions and Roberts threads have nothing to do with the death of Friendfeed. Robert's threads still have traffic and activity. The place where I see, where Robert would probably not ever be able to appreciate is the fact that there was once a time when a postless thread was impossible. Every single one of my threads had traffic. Even if it was one or 2 silly posts of... more... - Matthew DeVries
http://friendfeed.com/bwana that right there.....that is the saddest thing. That was once what I considered to be the most important account on Friendfeed. - Matthew DeVries
That's a stupid call he made for himself - LANjackal from IM
I'm a new user. i quite enjoy what's here, at the moment. I can't say that I'm a sophisticated social networker, but I have already grown to trust many of the folk i've met here. Like someone earlier in the thread said, if enough of my friends on friendfeed decide to move on, i'll likely follow. i don't suspect that that kind of 'distant early warning' would arrive via Facebook. - T. Brent, technopeasant
My experience on FF does not hinge on Robert. The community of thinkers and feelers will find a way to interact, here or somewhere else. By the way, some of us are left out of the loop 99% of the time when it comes to knowing what's next. Welcome to the club. - Aron Michalski from BuddyFeed
Matthew: you aren't the only one to notice this or tell me the same thing. Many won't point it out in public, either, because they just don't want to piss off those who are still here. Me? Being public with what I'm hearing, experiencing, deciding, etc is the way I deal with life and the conversations with others tend to either confirm the direction I'm aiming in, or they pull me back from the brink. So far not much has changed my opinion, and, in fact, has augmented it. - Robert Scoble
Aron: Twitter is about to turn on lists. That's one feature FriendFeed had over it. Within six weeks they will turn on a new retweet feature that looks more like FriendFeed's "likes" than it looks like RTs, so that's another feature. Twitter is working on real time search and I'd expect them to turn on a much better search within six months. So, what's left? Comments. Those are added on... more... - Robert Scoble
I still get a lot of activity on my posts but it's not what it used to be. The big thing I've noticed is a rarely get new subscriptions yet I'm still quite active here. Going from getting several or more a day to one or so a week is a big indicator to me of FriendFeed's decline. - Akiva Moskovitz
It's time to open source FF. Start the chant. - Todd Hoff
is it possible that things are levelling off, naturally? can growth, here or elsewhere, expect to be exponential forever and ever? - T. Brent, technopeasant
Brent, you bring up a salient point. For some, the constant movement is what they are really excited about more than the community. This is not to say that these ones don't enjoy the community, they obviously do. But they enjoy the "building" up of it. It's like getting trapped in the "I always want to be falling in love" feeling and never, as you bring out, get to and enjoy the natural leveling off. Some do enjoy that part. And there may be enough of them to keep this version of FF going. - Melanie Reed
There's a problem with stasis, though. For one, it almost always leads to entropy and, for two, it means that there isn't an influx of new blood. It's the same people doing the same things having the same conversations. It decreases how dynamic the experience is. It becomes stale. - Akiva Moskovitz
I'm not saying that FriendFeed's hit that stage yet but it most likely will. I'm still having a great time here but it's not nearly as exciting as it used to be and, no, that's just because the honeymoon period's worn off. - Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva, I respectfully disagree. It's like exploring a new path in an old garden. This is the place most people are either afraid to traverse or have not developed the discipline to want to go there. There are always new things yet to be discovered in the same relationship. We just get "ants in our pants" not wanting to sit still long enough to discover it. ;) - Melanie Reed
Melanie, oh yeah? Well, you're WRONG! In all seriousness, I think it's two sides of the same coin. And I want both. It's why I hang out both on Twitter and FriendFeed. I get different (but good!) experiences out of both. - Akiva Moskovitz
Matt - Yup, I've experienced the same thing as I have over 2,500 FF followers and now see a very low user engagement; whereas, in the past, I could get a ton of likes / comments on any topic. Now I see only crickets!! FF is dying. - Susan Beebe from BuddyFeed
Akiva, Its more about learning to "exult in monotony". ;) - Melanie Reed
Hah. Sorry, Melanie, but when it comes to social networking, I'm definitely polyamorous. - Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva, I've just come to appreciate the wisdom of Solomon: that there is "nothing new under the sun". lol Or as Shania Twain would say: "That don't impress me much." - Melanie Reed
With Friend Feed I can go to the site, and watch in realtime all the action going on with those I follow. I see Likes, Comments, Pictures, Nicely grouped and can type more than 140 characters if I want to. With Twitter, it's all a kludge to add on this and that and this client or that client and I just don't see how Twitter compares technically to FriendFeed at this time. Twitter was... more... - Keith Rowland
Yeah, the 140 character cap is the most baffleing thing that makes me wish FF wouldn't die and Twitter become king. I want more than 140 characters, I want it in real time, I want it in conversation, and I want it 100% free of super poke and my highschool neighbor's grand mother following me. - Matthew DeVries
It is the weekend and some people sleep :) At least that's how I'm looking at it ..for now.. plus I'm begging: Friendfeed please don't go away.. - http://new2me.posterous.com/friendf... (via http://ff.im/a57K2). - Chris Myles
FF activity is like the Bears defense tonight... far less vibrant than you'd expect - Jay Cuthrell from BuddyFeed
sorry 2 say that Scoble friendfeed is slowing down 2 :( - polou/indigo_bow
Not dead yet. Thank goodness. - Aron Michalski
The truth is we know nothing more than a few weeks after the sale when the team commented that they will keep it going as long as they could. We all knew development would stop. We all knew it would run on auto-pilot. No one here seriously expects FriendFeed to continue forever but a lot of us aren't pulling the plug and walking out the door. Interaction is down, to be expected, and I'm... more... - Johnny Worthington
well-put, Johnny. - T. Brent, technopeasant
Agree Johnny.. - Chris Myles
Here we go again... - BLOGBloke
OH MY DEAR LORD! THE FRIENDFEED TEAM ISN'T INSTANTLY AVAILABLE ON A SUNDAY AFTERNOON TO TALK ABOUT THEIR STRATEGIC PLANS! ALERT THE MEDIA! - Glen Campbell, B.A.
Glen, the last 13 words took your statement from accurate to inaccurate - Matthew DeVries
What Twitter client are you using these hours anyway Robert? Have you checked out CoTweet? - Matthew DeVries
Regardless of the Friendfeed team's lack of comments, the volume on some threads like this does prove to me that life still exists on FF. I will agree that the volume is lighter but nothing has officially shown me that Friendfeed is dead, only bogus news articles trying to create news... - manielse (Mark Nielsen)
Look at FriendFeed. Look at Facebook. Which one needs improvement? Of course the team isn't working on FriendFeed now. But they're still using it, and would be upset if Facebook killed it. Facebook values them. They won't kill FriendFeed. - Bruce Lewis
strictly speaking, since the time of the sale facefeed staff have added new features http://friendfeed.com/friendf... posted news about technology development http://friendfeed.com/friendf... and responded to user support http://friendfeed.com/friendf... - Mike Chelen

Social Media Epertistes are vampires, they'd shrivel up and die otherwise after a night full of exsanguination orrrrrrrrr we could just fwd. this to the Feedback Room [done] - sofarsoShawn
Great, so its over? I wonder how many times the community is going to be willing to put themselves into something like this before we realise that all this stuff needs to move over to an open platform. I have a few great great communities die because of financially/politically motivated owners. shitty. - Jason Strachan
Which reminds me: Anybody know how the OpenFF project's going? - Dennis Jernberg
We had this discussion about the future of Friendfeed back when the buyout was first confirmed. We assume it's treading water, and maybe some day we'll be surprised by an update. - Vezquex: God of FF
Shawn, well done - Jesse Stay
Vezquex, yeah - how many more times do you predict this will come up again? FriendFeed just gave an excuse for people to say something's dead. I predict this will happen many more times until it is actually dead or they start really vamping it up again. No one in this thread has the authority to know that. - Jesse Stay
Maybe we will just roll our own waves. - Sean Oliver
Let's stop comparing elephants to fleas. Even if having 10 PR people allowed Facebook to be the "most engaged" new company, adjusted against the number of inquiries originating from members, 10 people cannot support that volume. With 250 million (or how ever many more) members, the right level of PR staffing would have to be closer to 250 (one PR person per 1 million members) to get... more... - Rich Reader
Wow, I hadn't realized Bwana had completely left. Did he blog about it? - Laura Norvig
I'm not sure if he blogged about it, Laura, but he certainly did talk about it...I'm surprised that he made his feed go dark as abruptly as he did. - Alex Scoble
Laura, Alex, yeah that abruptness took me by surprise too. My iphone shed a pixelated tear. - Micah Wittman

Men less likely than women to wash hands properly
While the majority of women use soap and water on their hands after using the bathroom, men often need blunt reminders to lather up, according to research on hygiene habits conducted by London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. - Shey, Jamaican of FF from Bookmarklet
*shocked* - Anna Haro
That's disgusting - fatima
My mom used to say that if you were out of the restroom before the toilet finished flushing, then you didn't wash long enough. - Ha3rvey (not Akiva)
ewwwwww....MEN! haha - Shevonne
i am a habitual hand-washer and have been since my mid-teens. amazing, i know. :P - Joe Silence is not dead
@Dead Not according to this study you don't. ;) - Shevonne
I am, too, DS. I used to do desktop support at a medical school, and med school keyboards are the nastiest things in the universe. - Ha3rvey (not Akiva)
I'm borderline OCD when it comes to handwashing. Having several nurses in my extended family has helped me realize why I need to be thorough... that means at least 20 seconds of active scrubbing people! - Mark Jepsen
Men wash their hands before they go to the bathroom ;) - Eric Logan
Since my Great Grandmother and my brother who was a infant at the time contracted Hepatitis A, I've washed my hands to a point of OCD since I was 5. - CW™
“If you feel the need to wash your hands after touching your dick – shouldn't you be washing your dick instead?” – George Carlin - CW™
Just be aware that most of the bacteria that lives in your butthole has the ability to crawl across skin. - Victor Ganata
@Victor Ignorance is bliss - Shevonne
AUGHGHHHH, VICTOR! UN-READ! UN-READ! - Spidra Webster
Victor, is that the technical term? - LogEx
yes, Victor, i know this and yet will still perform oral sex on my wife. #WelcomeToTMILand - Joe Silence is not dead
LogEx: Anal orifice, if you prefer. :D DS: well, at least you're doing it voluntarily (I assume?) My main objection is with getting handed a fistful of E. coli without my informed consent. - Victor Ganata
Victor: haven't gotten sick from it once in over 15 years, we must be doing something right. - Joe Silence is not dead
Or you just built up an immunity to her cooties. ;) - CW™
I noticed when people at work don't wash their hands. Gross. After seeing that, sometimes I use Purell hand sanitizer when I get to my desk because I touched the door handle. - Rodfather
CW: i must've had that immunity when i was first with her, then. - Joe Silence is not dead
at the opposite end of the spectrum, i have a cousin who will consume his entire meal while dropping the kids off at the pool and wiping and then not washing his hands cos, well, he's been putting his hands in his mouth the whole time already, so what's the point? and he wonders why he gets violently ill with such frequency. - Joe Silence is not dead
and he's a degreed professional, too, not some yokel. the mind feckin REELS. - Joe Silence is not dead
I think you'd be surprised at how many women don't properly wash their hands after inserting a tampon or adjusting a sanitary napkin. You only have to worry about men who don't wash after wiping their asshole. You don't have to worry about men not washing after urination (ie: after touching their cock). - Kittyburgers
Yeah, you do. There's almost as much E. coli on a penis as there is in the ass crack. - Victor Ganata
NO, you are wrong on that one. - Kittyburgers from IM
No I'm not. Believe what you like. - Victor Ganata
Although if the dude is circumcised, the counts of Gram negative rods are much lower. - Victor Ganata
Kittyburgers, Victor Ganata is a doctor. I would think he would know what he's talking about here. Where are your credentials backing up your opinion? - Rochelle
The biggest problem and concern is hepatitis (specifically hep c), not E. coli - Kittyburgers from IM
Kittyburgers, can you back that up with a link to your source, please? - Rochelle
Every square inch of your skin is covered with bacteria. When some of that bacteria ends up in your GI tract, bad things can happen. Hep C isn't readily spread by surface contact--you really need contact with bodily fluids, most commonly blood, although it can also be transmitted via semen. - Victor Ganata
This is very true of hep C. I was reading an article the other day that was saying we are experiencing levels of hep C today that are the same as HIV in the 80's, which would suggest there are an awful lot of individuals out there spreading it. Syphilis is on the rise as well. These are the things that I find of more concern to me at the moment - not so much the hand washing thing. - Kittyburgers from IM
Kittyburgers, for the third time, where are your sources? - Rochelle
Hepatitis A is spread through close personal contact with infected persons or by eating or drinking food or beverages handled by an infected person who has not thoroughly washed his or her hands after having a bowel movement. The virus is contracted through the mouth, multiplies in the body and is excreted in the stool of an infected person. Persons who are infected with hepatitis A may... more... - Eric Logan
*shrug* Hand washing alone is probably the most effective way to prevent transmission of infectious disease. There are magnitudes of order more cases of gastroenteritis than of Hep C, HIV, or syphilis, and I realize that gastroenteritis rarely kills people in an industrialized country, but it sure as hell is inconvenient. - Victor Ganata
Stop touching me! - Christopher Harley
"I Poop on You!" - CW™
Hep A has very different transmission characteristics from Hep B and Hep C--it's the only one that can be spread via surface contact. Most infections of Hep A probably just cause run-of-the-mill gastroenteritis, but a good percentage of them will cause acute hepatitis, and a percentage of that will cause fulminant liver failure. So, yeah, wash your hands. - Victor Ganata
Coxsackievirus, E- Coli and Hepatitis A are the three most prevalent infectious diseases spread by poor hand washing hygiene. - Eric Logan
ya guys gotta wash their hands. I don't want smegajuice on the door handle. (just wanted an excuse to say smegma) - Rodfather
Seriously, that too. (Smegma is loaded with Gram negative rods.) - Victor Ganata
"gram negative rods"? What? - Spidra Webster
Spidra, it's a type of bacteria: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... - Rochelle
Sorry, it's microbiology slang :D It describes the shape and color of bacteria after you apply a chemical stain to it. That's what a lot of the different bacteria that live in your colon are. (E. coli is a type of Gram negative rod.) - Victor Ganata
Yeah, it's probably best not to think about it. All you can really do is wash your own hands. :D - Victor Ganata
I touch nothing directly in public bathrooms. - Shey, Jamaican of FF
You guys are going to turn me into Howard Hughes. - Spidra Webster
The Aviatrix! - Joe Silence is not dead
Agree with Shey .. - SCS Watching the Sun
I don't understand how people can avoid public restrooms without being complete recluses. When you gotta go you gotta go... - Her Lindsay-ness
I've witnessed coworkers leaving the restroom without washing their hands. *shudder* I think twice about shaking people's hands. - imabonehead
Chances are, you'll live, if it's any consolation. - Kittyburgers from IM
Sure, living is better than the alternative, but, still, diarrhea and vomiting suck. - Victor Ganata
actually, under those circumstances, i think it travels in the OTHER direction! - Joe Silence is not dead
LOL. That would make more sense. - Victor Ganata
I believe this - I'm the only female in a house of males. I have to constantly tell my boys to wash their hands! Drives me bananas. Sometimes I think - if I didn't get them to wash their hands, would they ever wash up? *Sigh* - Jannifer @wordsforliving
Thats the reason why we need tell-tale too-obvious signs that often make for humorous anecdotes. "Wash hands after going to the bathroom and before eating food (if you eat with hands)" - TrafficBug
My wife would say that women are worst. She sez the norm in public restrooms is that women come out of the stall, reach in their purses, put on a dab of lib gloss, highlighter and off they go without even looking at the sink. - Jim Turner
Well, if you don't bother wiping, at least the bacteria won't get on your hands :D - Victor Ganata
On a really good day, I wash my hands before, during, and after using the restroom. - Ha3rvey (not Akiva)
it's the "during" part I'd like visually documented. ;-) - Kittyburgers from IM
does this fact really surprise anyone, lol. - Marissa

Signed up for it and filled the survey which is a nice way of extracting information from people that are eager to try it out. - Usman Bashir
What's the deal in the survey where we promise not to blog about it? - Vezquex: God of FF
Too early to tell what it's like Zee as it's just a request for an invite. Is the promise not to blog a clever marketing ploy I wonder? One thing - it always frustrates me that when I fill out my UK address on most sites it still insists on my filling out a state (or I can't register). We don't have 'states' in the UK so why try and appeal internationally and then limit it to US subscribers - unless we make up an address as I just have! - PaulJohnson
I just put UK when it asks for my state, most forms dont seem to bother checking its really valid as long as you put something in :) - Simon Wicks
Seems like Threadsy sits between FriendFeed & Google Wave. Frankly I'm not willing to invest in another product till after trying Wave with others. - CannonGod

I'm with CannonGod on this one if it sits between FF and Wave - seems better to just invest in Wave - Wang Yip

Martin Bryant: Thats the exact issue i have with it, i did try it out but giving it login details to so many important accounts is the wrong way forward they should look in to other methods of solving this issue like the OAuth, Facebook Connect & etc. - Usman Bashir

25 Things You May Not Know About Me
Nice work. I'd vote for #23 ... - Patrick Jordan
@Patrick I got my fingers crossed! - Shey, Jamaican of FF
#14 made me giggle. - nakachi
you forgot to add, "I love to cuddle with the wife... especially during football." - Jasmin Smith
OMG lies, all lies - Shey, Jamaican of FF
don't be embarrassed. - Jasmin Smith
#23 is awesome. I want to see a closeup of #19! - Carmen
Video of #1 please ;) - Rodfather
you rock dude. I read encyclopedias too as a child. Read a set one summer after we moved. - RAPatton
Hey Shey if you get that #23 super power working, then I want one that is like krytonite to my dog's breath :) - Patrick Jordan
Anyone read those ChildLife books? I loved them as a kid. I'd read encyclopedias, too, but not back-to-back. When I ran out of my books, I'd find my mother's, no matter where she hid them. Seems she didn't think Sidney Sheldon, Erica Jong and Danielle Steel were appropriate for a preteen. Ok, I'm exaggerating; I actually found Jong boring. Zipless? WTF? - MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
@Rodfather Maybe sometime in the future, distant future - Shey, Jamaican of FF
Thanks for not being too freaked out y'all -- FFers are teh awesomest! - Shey, Jamaican of FF
Freaked out? You so silly, Shey. Your list made me smile almost as much as the picture on your site of you and your wife. You cool peeps. Even if you do cuddle during football. HA! - nakachi
Thanks Nakachi :) Spidra, wow you win! - Shey, Jamaican of FF
MiniMage, I used to read my mom's official detectives. she gave up on hiding them after a while. - B. Hatin
...very nice. Thanks for sharing Shey! - JA Castillo
Damn homeboy that is TMI for real..lol (too much information) - bcultral
I do 20. I learn quite a lot that way. As for 2 - noooo! I hate the sound of joints cracking. - B. Hatin
Nice! I adore thunderstorms, too! (And I can crack all of my joints, but not always intentionally... :-) ) - Ladybug Heather
#3 I crack my shoulders by reaching over my head to the other shoulder. - Neil Bernhart
Yes, seinfeld is right - andy brudtkuhl
Nice one Shey...Amen to #25...can't get enough of those! - Live4Emma (L4S)
::bumps:: - David Cook

@directeur Roman origins, perhaps that's where the surname has come from - Mo Kargas
Australian AND Welsh, how unlucky can you get? j/k ;) All these 25 lists are weird because I keeping finding about 10 of them are the same as me. Perhaps my FF circle projects my lifestyle more than I thought. - Steven Cains

Movie Review - District 9 - A Harsh Hello for Visitors From Space - NYTimes.com
Excellent movie for anyone having doubts - Jay
Best sci fi movie in a long time. - Pokai
boo i hated it - Caroline
I liked the movie, and loved that it used all unknown (outside of SA) actors and has given some great exposure to the South African film industry. For once the aliens chose to hover above a city outside the U.S! ;) - Guy Martin
[brains] oh, wait... - Mona Nomura from iPhone
Absolutely loved this movie. - Rasmus Lauridsen
This movie totally wowed me... Fantastic - Bette Cooper
We all know that in real life, aliens would only hover over the U.S., so I felt that part of an otherwise good movie was unrealistic. - Mark Davidson from BuddyFeed

I do like FF and use it almost every day. Wouldn't it be great if FB either left it alone so we can continue to use it as "professionals," or somehow incorporate it into a more "mature" version of FB that didn't have all the annoying, time-wasting apps, games, etc. I'd much prefer a totally customizable FF "wall." - Cathryn Hrudicka
