Robert Scoble
Sigh. Apple's iPhone won't upload videos to YouTube. I'll complain more about this here:
So, it compresses, it seems like it's uploading, but then it fails and says only that it can't complete the upload. This happens over and over. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. - Robert Scoble
Talking of which, no background processes, either..... - Roberto Bonini from iPhone
The thing is, it happens on both WiFi and 3G. It happens if you turn off WiFi. It doesn't seem to matter how long the video is. - Robert Scoble
Is this an iphone, network or youtube issue? - Sean Scott
And worse, when it fails, you have to reenter all the metadata about the video again to try it again (title, description, etc). Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh. This feature was definitely not debugged. Not to Apple's quality level. I guess this is what happens when Steve Jobs takes six months off. - Robert Scoble
Sean: who knows? There's no information. I assume that because it happens on both WiFi and 3G that it's not a network issue. And, since I've never had a YouTube upload fail otherwise I assume it's not a YouTube issue. That leaves the iPhone. Buggy! - Robert Scoble
Been trying to tell you about TweetReel geez ;) - Colin
Apostol: I'm very close to getting an Android. - Robert Scoble
Maybe it's linked to the Twitter DDOS thing? I'm still under DDOS lockdown. - Colin
Colin: no. It has happened to me ever since I got the iPhone, not just in past week. - Robert Scoble
Colin, you mean http://www.tweetreel.com/ -- but why should I have to pay $2.99 to get functionality that's already built into my phone? Sigh. - Robert Scoble
I just tried uploading a video from my Iphone to YouTube and it worked. Might be AT &T problem? I am in Canada under Rogers contract for Iphone service. - Shawna Bergen
Well, it seems to work for me. Go figure: http://www.youtube.com/watch... - Carter Rabasa
I can tell that my suggestion to sync the vids using iTunes and then upload is stupid. But yeah. Yet Another Apple Complaint - Roberto Bonini from iPhone
Apple provides hardware, developers provide some of the software, that's the way it works with some things. - Colin
I have not tried this feature, but having a 3G it's kind of moot anyway. The iPhone/AT&T juggernaut gets increasingly underwhelming with every passing day, every new "feature". I'd be on the Pre by now, but can't stand Sprint. Going to have to wait. Meanwhile I may just buy a regular phone to do things that phones do, you know, like make calls without getting dropped all the time. - Laura Scott (@lauras)
I'm in the U.S. but I'm 99% sure it used my WiFi connection to handle the transfer. - Carter Rabasa
Apostol - What's the "best" Android option at this point (from a generally satisfied iPhone user but someone who really likes Google's tools and openness). . .? - DaveFriesen
Colin: TweetReel doesn't upload existing videos, unfortunately. Carter: yes, sometimes it works. Which is why this is ultrafrustrating. - Robert Scoble
Send your vids to Posterous - Dominic Jones
Robert, it sure does upload existing videos heh. - Colin
It's been happening to me for weeks too! Also uploading to MobileMe fails most of the time. And there is no 'retry' - Cameron
As long as you still have them on your phone, right now Apple doesn't give a way to copy videos back to your phone (3.1 it may however) - Colin
@Apostol I was just lusting over a few unlocked HTC Hero's to replace my iPhone. You might have put me over the top. - Sam Harrelson
Yep, I've been waiting out for the Samsung or even the "cheap" Motorola Android's that are supposedly coming soon. Having had an iPhone for a while, I'm (at this point after the App Store mess) more concerned with using a device made by a company that treats me like an adult :) - Sam Harrelson
I have had similar issues - but only with bigger files - ben rogers
Apostol: Gotcha, thx for the info. Looking more like the Hero then! - Sam Harrelson
Encountered the same issue BUT the video miraculously appeared on YouTube! WEIRD. - Rom Feria
Robert, I use new and old video to upload to youtube from 3GS all the time. Only issue is if I try when it flips to Edge. - Alan Ashley
Is it a long video, because I just uploaded a short one 36 sec. without any trouble - Kim Landwehr
Kim: it's about 3 minutes long. - Robert Scoble
Kim, I can't even upload a 15 second with a fail... - Cameron
Use Pixelpipe for video uploads, you can send videos up to 200MB directly from the phone (without re-encoding) to over 50 services of their +100 support destinations - Brett Butterfield
Worked fine for me with a 1:36 video. First time I tried. - Otto from iPhone
Weird, must be a hit or miss thing not good. - Kim Landwehr
What also sucks is that there is no option to choose whether to upload the standard 4:3 footage or crop to 16:9 for upload. Although I guess it doesn't really matter if you can't upload it! :-) - Cameron
On a related issue: Does anyone have trouble playing YouTube videos on their iPhone over WiFi? - Barak B
If people are still having problems uploading to YouTube from iPhone, please direct message me w/ approx date/time and YouTube username so I can look into it. - John Harding
Tony Hollingsworth
it was a good idea - but no takers huh? I know nothing about android devices - but have to think that the google voice applications could be a real game changer for the networks if it succeeds in its promise to make telco's dumb pipes - ben rogers
Thanks Ben - most of the Aussie online community is on Twitter and maintains a presence on FriendFeed - there's little engagement. It's a shame as I think FriendFeed is fascinating especially for discussions like this one. - Tony Hollingsworth
I have asked lachlan to expand on his comment. Will report back. - erietta

The hard choice: Apple Tablet or Crunchpad or both? Argue it out here:
Both. I am a tablet freak. - Robert Scoble from iPhone
Crunchpad. Apple will lock me down to Mac, itunes, etc. I am hoping crunchpad will be more open in terms of compatibility. - karthick
Crunchpad. I will not be locked out by Apple again! http://mdeslaur.blogspot.com/2009... Crunchpad is Linux based, which makes it a sweet deal tbh - Rami Taibah
But I bet the Crunchpad will be more affordable so I will buy more of that. - Robert Scoble from iPhone
Both. Apple's [ghost]Tablet for the amazing interface. Crunchpad because of overall awesomeness and it being a product of total love for the industry. - Sam Dodge
Apple Tablet. They come with Jobs' Reality Distortion Field. - Phil Earnhardt
Windows based tablets are okay (i have one), but I think I would buy a Apple tablet, love the simplicity of their products. - Allen Harkleroad
wait for an Android tablet to come soon....i have a feeling it'll be soon - Ⓐ ☠ slayerboy ☠ Ⓐ
Price Points? I don't see the point of a tablet over a lightweight 13 inch macbook. With a table you have to bend your knees up or if your sitting hunch over, with a notebook it adjusts. I don't see the point unless they are way lighter and less expensive - Stephen Pickering
I'd go with the Apple, because you arent' locked to just a browser. - Jimminy Fuller
Lets see... let me look at the history of these companies as hardware manufacturers... - Diego Barros 
I like the iphone interface and with a larger screen it would make a compelling tablet but I think the 3rd option will be best: Android tablet - Murray Barton
Apple Tablet. - Oğuz Serdar
Stephen: to get on my coffee table it has to be a tablet. - Robert Scoble from iPhone
I'd love to see an Apple Tablet that could replace the blank paper and clipboard I usually carry around. - Sam Dodge
Impossible to say since we don't know all the info. - Eric Florenzano
Android and Moblin will also be contenders. Expect nifty gadgets powered by these two - Rami Taibah
Comes down to input and interface, for me. I'll need some time to play with typing (or whatever text-entry method Apple ends up using) and web browsing to see which one I prefer before making a call. Given Apple's past strengths, I assume they'll win out here, but I remain open-minded. - Pete Mortensen
Crunchpad this year, the Tablet looks like it will be a pricey beta product in its first version so I will wait for when Apple get it right. - Alberto Saavedra
I don't buy computers from bloggers. Apple it is. - Diego Barros 
I love my Nokia Internet Tablet, something larger than that (Maemo/Moblin?) would be great. - Joshua Lee
_always_ the non-apple device. since the china death over iPhone it is a question of ethics. - Mark Jacobs
Are you deciding by brand alone? What about waiting for the final specifications? - Amit Morson
Apple tablet gonna cost a fortune, so crunchpad for me. - Fajar Nurdiansyah
Mark: TechCrunch are lose on ye old ethics with the recent Twitter-gate - Diego Barros 
plus apple tablet is bound to have the usual flaws. to save $0.01 they probably will use the one spare part which makes the system dysfunctional way before its time - Mark Jacobs
Apple because I'm am Apple fiend. Isn't there a company out there that already turns MacBooks into something like a tablet? I can't remember who, but I think I remember trying to win one at MacWorld '09. - Kriselle Laran from iPhone
Mark: I don't think that Apple should be tied to the death of the worker in China. - Diego Barros 
neither ill stay with my netbook and my lg-incite .. both the crunchpad and the "apple" thing are way to much $ for what they do - xhozt
yeah not too keen on crunchpad after Arrington's effort around twittergate... - ben rogers
As long as I can connect a full keyboard (USB or Bluetooth, doesn't matter to me), Apple Tablet. - Eric Dunlap
Would like one with an active tablet still. Taking notes with a stylus is preferred rather than using a finger on a capacitive touch screen. - Rodfather
I'm an Apple fiend myself, using a Mac mini, but the Nokia Internet tablet has better build quality than the iPod touch. Of course, the iPod touch has a better interface.... - Joshua Lee
no, of course not by law, morally they bare all the responsability. jobs is simply a despotic dictator obsessed with secrecy. hard to imagine apple did not hand down that pressure to china. - Mark Jacobs
I'm waiting to see what the crunchpad is like.... - Joshua Lee
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..................................... - Joe
Apple will get it right the first time, Linux-based devices on the other hand are hit and miss.... - Joshua Lee
Apple Tablet. - TheHenry
With Robert. I'm a Tablet nerd and will probably buy both. - Uncle CW™
Mark: when I was in China the supply chain guys told me they would lose millions if anything about Apple leaked. Plus workers are TOTALLY tied to their employers. They live in housing given to them by employers. - Robert Scoble from iPhone
Apple. Crunch doesn't suit my needs, which means I don't have to mention the individual who offended me. - MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Did anyone see Arrington on Charlie Rose? - Stephen Pickering
Yes, honestly, I'd probably grab both regardless. - Rodfather
I did. - Robert Scoble from iPhone
Apple all the way. Ease of use is a given. - Jeff Foong from iPhone
Did you see the look on Charlie's face when asked about VC funding and Arrington snapped back, "I'm not going to answer that question" - Stephen Pickering
Yeah! - Robert Scoble from iPhone
Hehehehehheeheh - Stephen Pickering
Anyway when are these things going to ship? - Stephen Pickering
Maybe one day we'll see a cheap 10-11" convertible netbook with a real active tablet. Doubtful though. All the slates are too expensive too. - Rodfather
*nix + Mac finish, 10Ks Apps day 1, robust & ready out of box ... Linux is awesome, but I just don't have time for less than Apple anymore. - Don Strickland
(Wakes up looks at screen and falls back asleep) - Joe
Nothing has been announced about either, haven't held one in my hands, seen final images, or used either. No way to answer. If I had to guess, and could only choose one? Apple. - Andru Edwards from iPhone
Too early to comment, but I guess Apple... - Tahir Zaimoglu
Apple Tablet... I've already seen what Apple can do with a mobile platform. They have the engineering and R&D teams that have proven themselves. It might take a revision or two of the Crunchpad to really make with worth something. Also, isn't the Crunchpad going to book straight into a browser and that's all? Odds are there's going to be a lot of functionality in the Apple tablet. If... more... - Matthew Williams
Apple no question - sofarsoShawn
A jailbroken tablet! - Peter Tonoli
Both, but I'll go with Apple at the end of the day. Apple has history, the R&D credential and legacy. - Paul Papadimitriou
Credit to @arrington for the Crunchpad, but an Apple tablet is gonna kill it. Techcrunch just can't compete when you look at the brand reach outside the hardcore tech community. - Roger Oldham
Nexus: Phone vs Computer (web/partial vs full OS) Question: are their other players yet to show hands?... we know Crunchpad, Apple Tablet.. are Google?, Microsoft?, Phonemakers? Computer makers? going to sit out on this new game? More i think on this CES Jan looks more like tablet wars.... - Tristan Hambling
Apples strength is the interaction between hardware and software. They are designed for each other. All other products are a compromise. Until and if Google comes up with an Android device similar to an Apple Tablet (if one ever materialises) it's a one horse race. - Gilbert Harding
You ain't got nothing unless you got it all :) seriously - there was a reason why people stopped using PDA's - they could do almost everything the PDA could on a phone. I don't want more devices in my bag - I want less. Unless Apple comes up with a better design then what has been suggested online - I think it will flop big time. If they are making one..... Not ITablet - IFoleo :) - Asgeir
Neither, Apple will probably make the better product, but tablets will remain a niche market for at least another couple of years. - Bob Blunk
ya, just like the Macbook Air or the Apple TV? - Bob Blunk
@Apostol: What is the ratio of Iphone/Ipod users owning a Mac versus owning a PC? Maybe +/- 10% - Asgeir
Apple tablet, I know what I am getting and it has the company to back it. I see buying the crunch pad as being part of an experiment might be interesting, but not my first choice - Kim Landwehr from BuddyFeed
Next question: What features make sense in tablet form factor? eg..Full / Parital OS, Phone, Camera, Video, Compass, Wifi. Touch, Battery Life? Motion sensor, Microscope, TV tuner, 3D/Augmented Reality? Harddisk/Ram sizes? - Is this product ultimately really big Iphone or slimmed down computer with phone & touch extras added to pc? - Tristan Hambling
both so you can compare and complain about the other here :) - Lisa Immekus
If the Crunchpad launches in the UK at the right price-point, I'm there. - Steve Farnworth
It is like ohh, lets bridge the gap between phone and computer. That is so stuck in the 90's kind of thinking. I'd say, remove the bridge. Just give me one device that does everything. One device to rule them all, and in darkness bind them - Asgeir
I'd say the Crunchpad will be considerably cheaper, and it will be strong. Not to knock Mike, but you know you are getting quality hardware and software from Apple, so I'd definitely have to go Apple Tablet. - Chris Brakebill
Apple tablet with W7 on it, or Asus tablet 6 months after the Apple tablet :) - Kirill Petrovsky
Honestly this seems more like a Crunchpad v Netbook discussion to me. The 32GB ipod touch is $400, which is the cost of most netbooks on the market. I couldn't imagine the Apple Tablet being any less than $850. As a result, if the Crunchpad comes out BEFORE Christmas (which will be essential for market presence), AND the price is competitive with a netbook, I would then consider it as... more... - thestaticfrost
If the Apple iTablet is $700, maybe CrunchPad. If CrunchPad is $300-$400 w/o iPhone or iTouch interfaces, then CrunchPad will struggle. Apple iTable is a monster mktg machine. will be fun to catch and see what happens. I am rooting a low price point on the CrunchPad. If so, then I'll buy it. - jebbdykstra
Arrington should create a page on techcrunch dedicated to the Crunchpad asap...it's difficult to access "official info" about the status of the 'pad...requires some drilling down on the blog. - Stephen M. Otto
Apple Tablet because Arrington's a d-bag - Martin Johnson
Apple as I can buy apple care with it. - Darren Stuart
Whichever has Flash and can play Bejeweled Blitz... - ydfeed
i wouldve bought both but im not a fan of buying anything from @arrington. for some reason i just dont trust the guy. being completely a hypocrite, i still read tech crunch on a hourly basis. - Tobias Lewsadder
there is the case of a certain itunes app called dslr remote - Peter Harris
If it was strictly between Apple and the Crunchpad; I'd go with the Crunchpad in a heartbeat. Though, I am also one that would wait for an Android tablet, which may be better able to compete with Apple--especially given the news about Android 2.0. - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
get the pads not the tabs - sofarsoShawn
Some of these posts could be branded as over the counter sleep aids. - Joe
You can go the Apple route and know the reliability and support you will get - or buy a crunchpad. - Jim Connolly
Easy: The CrunchPad, especially if they leave the software system open so it is hackable. I don't want or need the lock-in and proprietary stuff that will be in an Apple product. A crunchpad running Linux opens up a lot of opportunities for doing my own thing. Plus, I imagine the crunchpad will be cheaper. And if they look anything like the videos of the prototypes that have been out, they definitely still look sleek. - Travis B. Hartwell
It is easy to speculate but I will have to look at both the devices and see which fits for my use. Apple will bring public attention to such devices just as Iphone made Touchscreen phones cool. - ashish
Both give two different things. Apple's Tablet of course with the stunning UI and usability and the Crunchpad with great overall ability. - Amir
I don't really even see them competing directly. The Apple is for a completely different audience. As a geek, I'll always choose TechCrunch over Apple. - peter
why not both! Apple is 4 consumers. Crunchpad 4 geeks! If Crunchpad markets it rite, I think there could be a potential:) - polou/indigo_bow
CrunchPad! - Daniel Brusilovsky
both Of course the Apple one will rock and Ill wait for Pogue to review the Crunchpad. Ill get it too if he likes it - JTC
Mark Pesce

Nokia has the goods but I'm not allowed to tell you what or why until 9:45 a.m. (Spain time) today. Wow.
But will it counter the iPhone or the G1 in terms of an open platform? - Peter Kelley
It's amazing how Nokia has managed to keep the lid on this! I doubt it's the communicator they're launching. Has to be a more consumer-centric phone. - Bhavishya Kanjhan
Peter: I don't say "wow" lightly, but I can't say more. They did something Apple never does: trusted us with an early view of their devices the night before their big coming out party. - Robert Scoble

For years, the American cell industry was laughed at as being so far behind the rest of the world. Then comes the iPhone, and guess who laughed, while the Nokias of the world realized how small their advantage had been, and how incremental their products truly were. Nokia is no Apple, they never have been, they don't have the chops to revolutionize. Maybe they'll impress along the lines of an XPERIA. But I don't buy hype when it comes to Nokia. - Christopher Galtenberg

He's going to look like a doofus when he has to show up at the debate anyway - Jason Carreira
I disagree. You don't get to call 'time out' when you're President. And McCain isn't part of the Banking Committee. What exactly is he going to do or add at this point, 4+ days into the process? I think hard working families know that the world doesn't stop when bad things happen. The car breaks, someone is in the hospital - you work twice as hard to get it done. That ... is America. - AJ Kohn
AJ, politics is about controlling the message. McCain has been in trouble for weeks, and he needed to take control by changing the focus, and he's done just that. Whether it works or not is yet to be seen, but it's an extremely bold gambit, and it's brilliant politics. If he pulls it off, Obama looks bad, McCain gets a boost. Lets face it, he had to try something - Duncan Riley
Yeah, sign of desperation - Merry Xmas FFeeders - AJ
@Duncan: I agree about controlling the message and changing the focus. McCain has been in trouble both in overall opinion and in major battleground states. He had to turn the tide. It's a good gambit but a shrewd Obama team *should* be able to parry and make McCain look weaker for this move. We'll see. - AJ Kohn
It's about as brilliant as saying you'd fire the chairman of the SEC if you were president. He'll be back on the campaign trail tomorrow, if he ever actually leaves it. Saying this is brilliant is as wrong as the people who thought the naming of Pailing was checkmate. Yes a few people said that right here on FF. When you make a move it has to be brilliant until Nov 4, not an embarassment two minutes after you make the move. - Dave Winer
I am scratching my head on this one. This is purely a political move. Will people buy it? I never know until the day after. If they don't and McCain loses, this will be remembered as one of the worst decisions during a Presidential Politcal campaign. - PC Easy from twhirl

It's too easy for Obama to turn it around on him, though. It's like a desperate roundhouse that leaves you open. - Jason Carreira
@Dave: They certainly do need to tap dance around the Rick Davis/Freddie Mac issue. - AJ Kohn
Hmm, now why on earth would McCain want to delay the VP debate.. - Andrew
Obama should tell him "Ok, if you want to delay our debate and go to Washington, then let's move the VP debate up to Friday". - Jason Carreira
Dave, I'm not saying that it may be a brilliant move, but it is brilliant politics. Radical, bold, attention grabbing, and if he pulls it off (I'm not saying he will, but I don't agree with others, it's still to early to be sure) better for him again. This is the sort of political play that will be in text books for the next 100 years, irrespective of whether it works or not. - Duncan Riley
It's not brilliant politics. It's street theatre - Michael VanDervort
Michael, we'll disagree then. Trust me though: the McCain team hasn't made the move without considering the outcome. They're betting that it will work, and if it does, the semantics over the move can be argued then :-) - Duncan Riley
The McCain team is desperate and showing it. The Palin pick was desperate too, and looked good for a while, now she's got the worst numbers of any of the 4 candidates. - Jason Carreira
Jason, fully agree. - Duncan Riley
Okay Duncan, let's agree to look back at this "brillaint move" in five days. It's Wednesday here in the US, so that'll be Monday. How will we tell then if this was a brilliant move? - Dave Winer
what does is say about the american populace though if they buy the McCain ploy - ben rogers from twhirl
@Duncan: i have no doubt the McCain team thought about this and are executing based on some well-understood principles about winning elections. but by all accounts, McCain passed up a joint statement for a first-out-of-the-gate announcement. this may be the way to win, but it's not the way lead. he knows that, too. - MikeAmundsen
I still say he'll be at the debate, and he'll look foolish like a petulant child who's been called on the carpet - Jason Carreira
"Your strategy of hiding Caribou Barbie from the evil liberal press has backfired by taking her out of the spotlight, resulting in the positive buzz shifting away from her." :) - Paul Buchheit
What if McCain doesn't show up at the debate? Will they still ask Obama questions? And will he end up looking foolish for having a one-person debate, or will McCain look like the fool. How funny would it be if they waited in silence for 30 or 60 seconds for McCain's responses? I really don't know who would look foolish in the one-person debate scenario. - Robert Felty
I think it would just be an interview on foreign policy - Jason Carreira
@paul: i believe the correct nomenclature is actually "Caribou-bie" - Bryan Power
Welllllllllllllll, it's five days later -- still think it was brilliant politics?? - Dave Winer
Nup, it back fired big time :-) - Duncan Riley
Coolio. You're a big man Duncan. :-) - Dave Winer
Robert Scoble
Remember, most Americans believe in God. Most Americans have kids in sports programs. Most Americans don't have a Passport. Palin wins.
Robert, no offense, but you're really souring my stomach. Why not leverage your position and sphere of influence to fight for what you believe in. Or are you one of those creationist types too? Do you really think its game over with this election? Do I need to go find a place overseas and become an expat? - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Ahhhhh... that's why you think McCain will win. I think 8 years, war & recession may sway the masses. - anna sauce
Brian, lol. I have lived overseas for 4 years. Most Americans don't know how good they've got it. - Justin Long
mores the pity - ben rogers from twhirl
If you think that the majority of the populace will vote for the candidate who most approximates them, demographically, then Obama has no chance at all. But we know this is not the case. Furthermore, Barack Obama believes in God (not just "god") and I presume his daughters play organized sports. Finally: most Americans believe that the Iraq War was a mistake and *not* part of God's master plan. You might want to factor those facts into your predictive formula. - Chester
I love the idea that it isn't because people might actually agree with McCain on the issue - it must be because they are dumb fools who will vote for the folks with the hockey players. Let's ignore that this isn't how things have gone historically. At what point will folks on the left decide that just maybe folks who don't agree with them are well meaning humans with a different POV and not ignorant sheep? - Soulhuntre
@BDE if you do, let me know. I've heard living the digital nomad life in South America is the perfect expat way to go. - Jason Shultz from twhirl
Most American women are not former beauty queens...Most families do not have 5 children...And most Americans do not have such a fundamental view of Christianity - Alex Scoble
Actually Soulhuntre it is how things have historically worked...Take JFK vs Nixon for instance...there were a lot of people who voted for JFK just because he was more charismatic...it has been so ever since - Alex Scoble
Palin wins if Democrats are stupid enough to make her the main topic of the election. - Chris Baskind
@Alex: Most people like prom and beauty queens. Most people have kids, it really doesn't matter the number. Most people are Christians and don't draw the distinctions between fundamentalist and non-fundamentalist because they don't need to. Also, I see no problem with having kids in sports programs...? - Ben Parr
Alex - Good point. Gore and Kerry had zero charisma. - Russellreno
I'm just pointing out how she is NOT like the average American. - Alex Scoble
@Chris Well then they lost, because it seems Dems are incapable of focusing on anything else except Palin, which is Ironic considering attacks against Hillary was the harshest form of sexism ever. - Jason Shultz from twhirl
@Alex - charisma I will agree with. Charisma is a synthesis of a number of human judgments that tend to convey trust, leadership, dominance and so on. But charisma is NOT "the same as me". Heck, Obama is easily the most charismatic guy in this field, despite is sameness handicap as Robert sees it. - Soulhuntre
Soulhuntre, since the Republican strategy for this election is to treat you like ignorant sheep, how do you expect us well meaning humans to believe any differently? Just sayin' - jcunwired
Did Soulhuntre just agree with me? I think he did. Cool. *this is a 100% snark free comment...seriously* - Alex Scoble
I think most "most"s are mostly made up. - Craig Eddy
Two out of three here, but I'm still voting for Obama. Also, Chris Baskind is right: don't focus on Palin. Latest Obama ad indicates that focus is shifting back to McCain. - Steve Lowe
I wonder why Obama's focus is on Palin/McCain instead of on Obama? - Mistletoe Glen
I agree with Glen. Let's not be distracted by the red herring Palin. Let's focus on Obama, and where is Biden? It's time he spoke up, like he does at other times. - Cathryn Hrudicka
Per your own words, most people have as much experience and relativity as Palin. This is why they won't vote for her:) W00t! - Roney Smith
That's an excellent point Glen. - Keith Shepard from twhirl
Robert, it really saddens me to hear you so pessimistic, but since the Palin pick embodies nothing so much as cynicism (as Frum says: It's a denial that information matters. http://tinyurl.com/4fsjxv ) yours is at least an honest, if hopefully transient response. I hope you feel better tomorrow. - Rick Powell
@Alex - I've agreed with you before on stuff I think. And I think the reading upside down thing rocks :) - Soulhuntre
@Jody C - obviously we have differing opinions on that :) Keep thinking we are idiots if you like - it is the core conceit that keeps democrats from making any headway. The core conceit that more often than not loses elections. - Soulhuntre
Scoble is coming off as pompous with that tweet. - David Risley
Soulhuntre, you misunderstand. I am not calling you idiots, merely pointing out that the misleading, untruthful ads put out by the McCain campaign lead me to think that Republicans think we are all idiots. Lets face it, they've treated us all that way since Bush's first campaign in 2000 (and subsequent promises broken), stepped it up on Sept. 11 leading up to Iraq war, and perfected it during the 2004 elections. - jcunwired
I personally believe that in a few weeks this whole Palin crap will wear off/she'll really screw up. Obama is going to be our next President and that is great! - Mathew™ one of a kind
No wonder you are losing followers. Sorry you really have wrong perception of democrats. Not everyone is a republican snob like yourself. A social media snob if i may add. Bye. - orionstarr
Robert: Thanks for keeping it real -- you are only stating the obvious and sometimes people just won't accept it. Sadly, Progressive and tolerant are two different things, I guess. - Oldengrey (Jay)
re: passports specifically...it is also the reason why most americans shouldn't be Vice President - George Lee from twhirl
Robert is dead center. The side with the best propaganda and images win. Palin is walking, breathing propaganda and the democratic leaders are not good propagandists. Republicans win. If you want Obama to win, you have to hope for better propaganda that resonates with Mr. & Mrs. Middle. - Dean Terry
@Dean Terry So your saying most of the middle relates to white trash? - orionstarr
Orion: Good retort! - Oldengrey (Jay)
I think it's sad to read someone not getting elected would be "soul crushing." Yes, elections are important, but they should not determine your happiness or lack of happiness. I was not happy to see Bill Clinton elected either time, but I never lost any sleep, never got depressed, never moved to Canada. I understand the desire to see Obama as today's John, Robert, and Martin, but he's none of the above. - ComicList
Cathryn, the less Biden says, the better off Obama is. Biden has a record of racist and sexist comments, and Obama doesn't need to waste time apologizing for his VP. He needs to spend time explaining why he should be President instead of McCain. - ComicList
One of the reasons I left the Democratic party was the constant harping on how it was so wrong that they would lose, and that the Republicans must have either pulled some dirty trick or fooled the voters into voting for them. No, it's actually possible a Democratic candidate, even Obama, can be rejected by voters because they believe the other candidate is a better choice. - ComicList

there is some evidence that people with sleeping problems actually gain weight... usually associated with anxiety etc though - ben rogers
same with me, but sometimes I do have that excess one-time full-feeding going on each 2-3 days. Rest is a constant flow of small doses of food, each 6-7 hours. - ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,

6 things the Palin pick says about McCain - Jim VandeHei and John F. Harris - Politico.com
"Let’s stop pretending this race is as close as national polling suggests. The truth is McCain is essentially tied or trailing in every swing state that matters — and too close for comfort in several states like Indiana and Montana the GOP usually wins pretty easily in presidential races. On top of that, voters seem very inclined to elect Democrats in general this election — and very sick of the Bush years." - Dave Winer from Bookmarklet
I don't like overconfidence. Smells like Kerry/Edwards. I want full speed, full-court press until the election is over. - AJ Kohn
Then why are you so worried? - Sam Pullara
2008 has been pretty different from 2004. In a lot of ways, 2004 was almost like 2000—it still felt like having to choose the guy who sucked less. This time, though, I feel like the differences between the two tickets are pretty stark. It's the veritable battle for the soul of the nation. - Victor Ganata
AJ You took the words out of my mouth. - Russell Beattie
7th thing, McCain has lost it completely.... btw I probably like having an ex-beauty pagent who still looks great as VP, that way I can see her daily on TV for the next 4 years :) .... jokes apart this looks like a desparate attempt to woo all sub-urban soccer moms out there - Krishna Gade
So who's voting for a 3rd party candidate? A candidate that stands up for what they believe in instead of a backstabbing jerk that compromises after winning some votes? - Rudolf Olah

great post from Graig - its a typical situation that states are doing it themselves, but it also happens at the federal level amongst federal groups... ....There is insufficient collaboration across Australia government Qld invested $7.5 million in a geospatial display system (building a metadata atlas and other tools), WA invested $26 million in a similar, but separate system (more bells and whistles), NSW is looking to invest in such a system - separately Vic is looking to invest in such a system - separately Federally AGIMO is investing in such a system - ben rogers

The iPhone 3G is the new, happy, recipient of my existing phone number. Goodbye Blackberry. It was a good five years.
It'll be interesting to see how you like it. I don't have a blackberry, but I do have a sidekick. I've had a couple of iPhone users see me use it and comment that they "love their iPhone but they really, really miss the keyboard." - Joanmarie
You won't regret it. Great decision. If you've loved your Touch, you'll adore the new gadget! - Andy DeSoto

@Charles, turns out I have two chargers for it, assuming USB connectivity to the laptop. With all the Apple gear in this place, we've got cables of all sorts. Not too long ago, we went one by one and must have tossed away a small data center's worth of junk. Now, we hopefully have the basics. - Louis Gray

I can crawl inside Mark Krynsky’s head. I can see what music he’s listening to, what he’s reading and watching, who his friends are, where he’s at, what he’s doing. I’ve never met Mark, but I know he listens to U2 and Red Hot Chili Peppers. - Mitchell Tsai from Bookmarklet
Krynsky, who lives near Los Angeles, is an early adopter of “lifestreaming,” which is a record of everything he does online, all in real time. “The cool thing about lifestreaming is you get to gaze into people to learn a lot that you might not otherwise know about them,” Krynsky told me. “You get an idea about what’s going with their lives in a way that you don’t have to interact, but you build all this knowledge and information.” - Mitchell Tsai
See Scott Rubel's FF post (6/14/08) http://friendfeed.com/e... where Mark says " I spent 40 minutes with Gina on the phone for that interview and did some Scobletastic pimping of FF of my own." - Mitchell Tsai
An extreme example of lifestreaming popped up last year when Justin Kan attached a webcam to his hat and decided that he would wear the camera at all times, with streaming live video and audio, attracting the attention of news outlets like the Today Show and NPR. The experiment morphed into Justin.tv, which is a network of streaming video channels (many of which are lifecasts); it also allows chat at the same time. - Mitchell Tsai
“One thing we’ve discovered is that email is not the perfect medium for every kind of conversation,” said Paul Buchheit, a co-founder of FriendFeed. “If you are sharing funny links of good videos or an interesting article, email turns out not to be the best way to share those…it can pile up and you start to feel guilty and anxious and not sure if you’re ever going to catch up.” - Mitchell Tsai
Turning people off—or at least certain aspects of what they put online—will likely become essential in social networking’s future. As sites like FriendFeed make it easy to blast out anything that interests you, the volume of material from people you know could be daunting. - Mitchell Tsai
Electronic communication has lowered the “cost” of finding out what’s going on with those you know, said Kevin Lim, a tech blogger who is a doctoral student in communications at the University of Buffalo in New York. Some will call very few people in their social network but are interested to find out what’s going on with a lot of people if it’s easy enough, he said. - Mitchell Tsai
We may simply have acquaintances who we don’t want to have access to everything we do. A year after Reichelt wrote about ambient intimacy, she adjusted her views: The longer someone uses a social network, the more it gets populated with those from different aspects of our lives—like bosses or colleagues—that we may not want listening to all of our inner thoughts. So having the same level of intimacy with people we want to stay close with risks some exposure, Reichelt wrote in April. - Mitchell Tsai
Adam Kazwell is a 28-year-old FriendFeed aficionado, but [his] attempts to get his girlfriend or parents to use the service haven’t worked. And he doesn’t expect them adopt the habit anytime soon. But he thinks that as more people use services like Facebook and technology like camera phones, that will change. - Mitchell Tsai
does that mean lifestreaming has gone mainstream :-) - ben rogers from twhirl
Nope... Almost none of my friends has Twitter yet. Even Facebook (90 million+ users) only reaches.... ~5-10% of my friends. - Mitchell Tsai
From the article: "Rather than the anonymous and often disparaging comments posted on a site like YouTube, the comments left on FriendFeed under a video go out to people reading your stream of information: So they know you, either in real life or through an online relationship, creating a group conversation." - Anthony K.
