Sigh. Apple's iPhone won't upload videos to YouTube. I'll complain more about this here:

So, it compresses, it seems like it's uploading, but then it fails and says only that it can't complete the upload. This happens over and over. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.

The thing is, it happens on both WiFi and 3G. It happens if you turn off WiFi. It doesn't seem to matter how long the video is.

And worse, when it fails, you have to reenter all the metadata about the video again to try it again (title, description, etc). Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh. This feature was definitely not debugged. Not to Apple's quality level. I guess this is what happens when Steve Jobs takes six months off.

Sean: who knows? There's no information. I assume that because it happens on both WiFi and 3G that it's not a network issue. And, since I've never had a YouTube upload fail otherwise I assume it's not a YouTube issue. That leaves the iPhone. Buggy!

I have not tried this feature, but having a 3G it's kind of moot anyway.The iPhone/AT&T juggernaut gets increasingly underwhelming with every passing day, every new "feature". I'd be on the Pre by now, but can't stand Sprint. Going to have to wait. Meanwhile I may just buy a regular phone to do things that phones do, you know, like make calls without getting dropped all the time.

As long as you still have them on your phone, right now Apple doesn't give a way to copy videos back to your phone (3.1 it may however)

What also sucks is that there is no option to choose whether to upload the standard 4:3 footage or crop to 16:9 for upload. Although I guess it doesn't really matter if you can't upload it! :-)

it was a good idea - but no takers huh? I know nothing about android devices - but have to think that the google voice applications could be a real game changer for the networks if it succeeds in its promise to make telco's dumb pipes

Thanks Ben - most of the Aussie online community is on Twitter and maintains a presence on FriendFeed - there's little engagement. It's a shame as I think FriendFeed is fascinating especially for discussions like this one.

Price Points? I don't see the point of a tablet over a lightweight 13 inch macbook. With a table you have to bend your knees up or if your sitting hunch over, with a notebook it adjusts. I don't see the point unless they are way lighter and less expensive

Honestly this seems more like a Crunchpad v Netbook discussion to me. The 32GB ipod touch is $400, which is the cost of most netbooks on the market. I couldn't imagine the Apple Tablet being any less than $850. Easy: The CrunchPad, especially if they leave the software system open so it is hackable. I don't want or need the lock-in and proprietary stuff that will be in an Apple product. A crunchpad running Linux opens up a lot of opportunities for doing my own thing. Plus, I imagine the crunchpad will be cheaper. And if they look anything like the videos of the prototypes that have been out, they definitely still look sleek.

For years, the American cell industry was laughed at as being so far behind the rest of the world. Then comes the iPhone, and guess who laughed, while the Nokias of the world realized how small their advantage had been, and how incremental their products truly were. Nokia is no Apple, they never have been, they don't have the chops to revolutionize. Maybe they'll impress along the lines of an XPERIA. But I don't buy hype when it comes to Nokia.

I disagree. You don't get to call 'time out' when you're President. And McCain isn't part of the Banking Committee. What exactly is he going to do or add at this point, 4+ days into the process? I think hard working families know that the world doesn't stop when bad things happen. The car breaks, someone is in the hospital - you work twice as hard to get it done. That ... is America.

What if McCain doesn't show up at the debate? Will they still ask Obama questions? And will he end up looking foolish for having a one-person debate, or will McCain look like the fool. How funny would it be if they waited in silence for 30 or 60 seconds for McCain's responses? I really don't know who would look foolish in the one-person debate scenario.

If you think that the majority of the populace will vote for the candidate who most approximates them, demographically, then Obama has no chance at all. But we know this is not the case. Furthermore, Barack Obama believes in God (not just "god") and I presume his daughters play organized sports. Finally: most Americans believe that the Iraq War was a mistake and *not* part of God's master plan. You might want to factor those facts into your predictive formula.

Let's ignore that this isn't how things have gone historically. I was not happy to see Bill Clinton elected either time, but I never lost any sleep, never got depressed, never moved to Canada. One of the reasons I left the Democratic party was the constant harping on how it was so wrong that they would lose, and that the Republicans must have either pulled some dirty trick or fooled the voters into voting for them. No, it's actually possible a Democratic candidate, even Obama, can be rejected by voters because they believe the other candidate is a better choice.
