Very painful to watch. But do it anyway, it's good for you. - Dave "Maverick" Winer via Bookmarklet
no, don't want to! - Susan Beebe
I can think of much more painful things. Debating on the Internet, for one. - Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
what a fucking idiot. - jeneane 'the wink' sessum
She has an obvious lack of confidence. And her lack of knowledge is a trainwreck. Especially on the campaign priding itself on experience. - Andrew Burd
Dear America. Please don't elect this clown. Love, Rest of the World. - thomasrdotorg
Katie asked some tough questions! Do we believe any politicians in this day and age? - Chris Herbert
America, you're frightening me... - Jérôme Flipo
I'm embarrassed for her. - Yolanda
What an embarrassment - PC Easy via twhirl
she's ill about it! ill dammit!! - acedanger the maverick
it's really a disgrace to all the great americans out there (like me!) who get a bad face because of dumbasses like her. sucks. - genieyclo
@Chris Herbert I believe in 2: Ron Paul and George Galloway. Awesome men. - genieyclo
Yikes. That was painful. - Steven Perez
Idiot: " I'll try to find ya some and bring them to ya"...are you kidding me - Gordon Swaby
How uncomfortable was that to watch WOW! - Vox
Wow, Katie finally ate her spinach in the last 10 seconds of that. - Shawn Farner
Palin= parrot. Trained to blurt out lines...incapable of doing anything else other than repeat the standard answer even if the question is different. Credit where it's due: they've trained her well...just like a parrot. - Duncan Riley
Right on, Duncan! It's like what Bill Maher said about Bush (in a parrot voice), "They hate us for our freedom, baaaaaak, they hate us for our freedom" - Peter "that one" Ghosh
The last ten seconds scared me. Her coaches need to work on getting rid of that line - was she sarcastic or being real? - LPH™
cbs released some of these questions and answers earlier today. ya know...the answers sound dumber when you hear them than when you read them. - Faboo Mama
........ wah.......um........ ok....... really? - John Worthington
Threw up in my mouth after watching that. Did McCain know that she doesn't use "g's" at the end of any of her words before nominating her? Also, is an answer like "I'll go find some answers and bring 'em back to ya" really inspire confidence in her as a leader? - Aaron Strout
ouch. punt, pun, punt, punt, punt. When in doubt, deploy the word 'maverick.' - Susan A. Kitchens
I thought the highlight was the use of the word 'multifaceted' - AJ Kohn
The nicest thing I can say at this point is at least Palin is finally wearing the hairstyle of someone over the age of 16. - Amanda Hicks
@Amanda, that WAS nice of you! - jeneane 'the wink' sessum
The thing that did strike me though is although she parroted the answers out, she lacked the ability to adequately change the question prior to the answer, giving the effect that she was avoiding answering. For example, old political trick when you don't like the question: "that's an interest point but the real question is..." or similar. Polished is a country in Europe according to Sarah Palin - Duncan Riley
+1 Duncan for Geographical Punnage! - John Worthington
This would be painful to watch if I didn't dislike the woman so much. Schadenfreude time. - Alexander Carlill
A glimpse of what is to come if Palin / McCain are elected. - scott willeke
Whew, don't get me wrong I'm no supporter of the McCain train...but man that reporter was cold as ice! - David Adam

I'm shocked really. The media has been so even handed this time around :: eyeroll :: - Soulhuntre via twhirl
I would have to agree with all these points. - ChangeForge | Ken Stewart
I would have to agree with ChangeForge. - Ayşe E.
you know you done messed up when even george will and cokie roberts are criticizing - Cee Bee
bunch of old weathermen sitting areound talking about the weather ... - Gregory Lent
You said it Cee Bee. - Ayşe E.
...or when Karl Rove says your ads have gone too far and are too dishonest. - Jason Carreira
+1 Cee Bee - cjmart
From Mr. Conservative George Will: "I suppose the McCain campaign's hope is that when there's a big crisis, people will go for age and experience," George Will said. "The question is who in this crisis looked more presidential, calm and unflustered. It wasn't John McCain, who, as usual, substituting vehemence for coherence said let's fire somebody and picked one of the most experienced and conservative people in the administration." - cjmart
Idle Unfounded Speculation: many conservatives are cutting their losses and torpedoing the McCain campaign because he was never their guy. And, while Obama will win the Presidency, they're betting he cannot handle it...or betting that world economic/etc. issues will conspire to make it unhandle-able. Meanwhile, they dig their heels in to fuck with the Obama presidency over the next four years while they prepare to get a true-red conservative to the top of the ticket in 2012. - Chester
It will be hard for Obama, after four years of Democratic rule of the Presidency and Congress, to come back after four ugly years and say "re-elect me because I've done such a wonderful job." I think Obama isn't very concerned about that, though. There are two things he loves to do: make speeches and make money. Being an exPresident will help both immensely. - Charles LePage
Yes, because the Democrats in power for the last two years have done wonders. - Spencer Scott
Yes, that ABSOLUTELY makes sense. Obama is all about the money. Because that's why you take your Ivy League education and go to work as a community manager rather than joining a huge law firm. For the money. - Cyndy
+12 Cyndy. - AJ Kohn
You mean working for ACORN, which is the largest voter fraud organization in the U.S. ;) - Spencer Scott
It's hilarious for people to try to contrast Obama with McCain by making Obama sound like the greedy one. :) As far as I know Obama didn't leave his first wife to marry a fabulously wealthy (and more attractive) one. Obama knows how many houses he owns and he owns one car. I'm sorry, but you don't get to say Obama is the greedy one after the money... - McCain's Buddy Tad
@Spencer: Want to compare fraud by association? You want to go with Obama/ACORN. I counter with McCain/S&L-Keating Five. - AJ Kohn
@Tad: +7. - AJ Kohn
Republicans talking about voter fraud is HILARIOUS! How about the Voter Caging going on in Michigan where the Republicans are challenging voter registrations for every name that shows up on a foreclosure list. Because, you know, when people are down it's the best time to kick 'em, and the poors don't vote Republican anyway. - Jason Carreira
@Jason: +1. I was going to reply that way but didn't have time to dig up a specific instance. - AJ Kohn
The fake conservatives here (Soulhuntre, Charles LePage, Scott Spencer) can't deal with the words of a real conservative, George Will: "The question is who in this crisis looked more presidential, calm and unflustered. It wasn't John McCain, who, as usual, substituting vehemence for coherence said let's fire somebody and picked one of the most experienced and conservative people in the administration." What -- no response? - Sean McBride
"substituting vehemence for coherence" -- in four words, George Will managed to sum up everything that is wrong and anti-conservative about John McCain. He's like George W. Bush, but worse. Four more years of Bush-style governance, and the United States will be permanently ruined. - Sean McBride
my "big" view, he could be just what america needs, to create a few more years of chaos, enough so that americans can look into the mirror and see someone who might finally do something to change the way they live, think, act ... if he wins, that is the reason from my pov, america needs him. just like they needed george to get to the point where they start to think about what is important. - Gregory Lent
If by "what is important" you mean "moving to Brasil" then yes. - Jason Carreira
:-) jason there are so many things that need attention for usa to move in sync with the 21st century reality .. habits of consumption, education, economics, competition ... i am sure you can add to this list ... and still we want news of brittney and more comfort ... moving to brazil is a good idea just to learn some useful things applicable anywhere ... - Gregory Lent
@Gregory: Agree regarding consumption, eduction, competition, personal responsibility etc. It's why I'm against the bailout. Would prefer *that* collapse to the harmful isolation and nationalism that might exist under McCain. - AJ Kohn
we have the habit of valuing short term gain, vs. long term gain ... managing a company for the next quarter's stock results is simply foolish, as example ... - Gregory Lent
@Gregory: Completely agree. - AJ Kohn
I would characterize this discussion less as "tears into" and more as "has a measured conversation about the shortcomings of" -- the kind of rational discourse that is all too lacking on the scream-a-minute cable news channels these days. I'm no conservative (mostly), but I'd rather listen to George Will than Bill O'Reilly any day. - Heidi Moon
Bill O'Reilly is no conservative. If it got him higher ratings (and more $$$) to do some other shtick, he'd do it, but he's carved out his niche and he's profitable at it. - Jason Carreira
He just plays one on TV? :) - Heidi Moon
I'm no fan of the Bill O'Reilly Circus Show, but he's actually quite liberal on some issues. - Ian May

heh. I have to admit, for as long as I've been drooling at the prospect of this thing, I'm a little disappointed it looks like a pancaked sidekick. - Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
I used one for a bit. It seemed pretty nice, and I'm willing to have a somewhat uglier phone if it includes a keyboard and other good controls (which this does). Also, Apple won't own you. - Paul Buchheit
this is ages behind our tablets ;) - silpol
Oh, don't get me wrong - I'm still getting it. The interfaces I've seen have more than made up for any shell ugliness. - Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins

I'm still confused by the concept of out of your league. When did people pick teams for dating? Some hot women like to convert their hotness to other things, like rich, funny, or creative men, but mostly hot people seem to like each other. As do any other subgroup when it comes to dating. - Clare Dibble
newsflash: unattractive men are perfectly capable of getting dates with attractive women. dumb article. - j1m

Targeting people with automatic-weapons-carrying SWAT teams and mass raids in their homes, who are suspected of nothing more than planning dissident political protests at a political convention and who have engaged in no illegal activity whatsoever, is about as redolent of the worst tactics of a police state as can be imagined." - Dave "Maverick" Winer via Bookmarklet

No. The question is will FriendFeed exist with Rejaw in the works? - Outsanity
Is rejaw anything more than just twitter redeux? - Andrew Fielding
People already flocked over there making it their Twitter escape. - Outsanity
I still don't get Rejaw's added value over any other service. - Amit Morson
I still don't see rejaw as much more than twitter with threads. - John Cooper
No. I don't see much of anything in rejaw. - Brad Nickel
I can't even get rejaw to load. Anyway, I like the setup here better. - Yolanda
Great speculation. But for an old guy like me where's it all going? Think I'll hibernate for 300 years. - pazzer1
Don't underestimate Twitter's ability to broker between the web, SMS, IM, and APIs. That's still a big a deal. - todd
Unless FF had a good SMS integration and was a good conduit for 3rd party tools - yes - Soulhuntre via twhirl
Onversation - very good - Sarah
I will grant you that FF does not have the live ping of SMS or IM but I think that the bubbling conversations reduces this a bit. I can access FF when I have a moment not when someone pings me. I can do it at my pace. FFotGo or just the regular site work fine from my mobile. - John Cooper

I am sure there is a lot of commentary you could put to this pic. My only comment is that the world at large must REALLY be tired of the current US Administration if you can get this many people (in another country) to cheer for the possible replacement. - Darrell Bell via twhirl
were the decemberists there too? - scott via twhirl
Ha @ scott. Those Decemberists really are a huge draw. Obama needs to stop riding their coat tails. - Kevin Bondelli
Perhaps he should run for German Chancellor - Ben Jackson via twhirl
Not commenting on BO but seriously does it matter if the Germans like our future president. That's usually a warning sign for me. - Todd Jordan

I think the full size picture is about so many people taking a picture that half of the audience is not able to realize that they are making history by not being aware that they are being photographed too. - Ton Zijp
It's really fascinating to zoom into the large image and see the details. There is an amazing number of cameras in the audience. Plus: above the Angola sign, what is that person doing with the laptop? Is it taking a picture? - John via twhirl
Todd, It's a warning sign that a US presidential candidate is getting a warm welcome from citizens of a long-time ally that we'd managed to alienate to a large degree over the 8 years or so? Why is that? - Erik S
Germans? one would have to wonder what the Obama campaign people are thinking. I understand that it makes sense to stop somewhere on his way back from the mideast, but perhaps a lower key reception would of been in order? This is not going to get him elected in the US. This will cost him a bunch of points. Lets be objective here. I hope he had a great time because he is going to suffer with a hangover from this. - AnotherⓃⓄⒶⒽ
