How Well Do You Understand CSS Positioning? | Van SEO Design - http://www.vanseodesign.com/css...
Yes, it's finally here. The Fortune module is a port of the venerable BSD Unix fortune cookie program originally created by Eric S. Raymond. The module provides a block that displays a random fortune each time it the page is reloaded. This module is a lot like the Quotes Module, but specifically geared to the use of the existing library of fortune files. The fortunes for this module are supplied by installing specially formatted text files. In the current implementation these files need to be installed in a folder named 'fortunes' within the module, and for each set of fortunes there must be both a fortune file and a corresponding .dat. Prior to the first release, I'll move the fortunes to files/fortunes and implement an admin interface (admin/settings/fortune) so that users can simply upload fortune files, whereupon .dat files will automatically be created. I also plan to include an option to import fortunes into the database. Database-stored fortunes may eventually supplant... - playahater

"It's like twitter. Except we charge people to use it." - http://www.27bslash6.com/p2p...
Actually, you were asking me to design a logotype which would have taken me a few hours and fifteen years experience. For free. With pie charts. Usually when people don't ask me to design them a logo, pie charts or website, I, in return, do not ask them to paint my apartment, drive me to the airport, represent me in court or whatever it is they do for a living. Unfortunately though, as your business model consists entirely of "Facebook is cool, I am going to make a website just like that", this non exchange of free services has no foundation as you offer nothing of which I wont ask for. - playahater

Where Are Your Contact Lens Displays? - http://hardware.slashdot.org/story...
destinyland writes "'We already see a future in which the humble contact lens becomes a real platform, like the iPhone is today,' argues researcher Babak Parvis, 'with lots of developers contributing their ideas and inventions.' He provides an update on the contact lens with transparent circuitry that's being developed at the University of Washington. (Its components will eventually include hundreds of LEDs which form images in front of the eye such as charts and photographs). They've already developed a lens-with-LED prototype that's powered by 330 microwatts of wireless radio-frequency power, and believe the lenses could also be used as biosensors to deliver body chemistry readings (including blood sugar levels). But 'What we've done so far barely hints at what will soon be possible with this technology,' says Dr. Parviz." Read more of this story at Slashdot. - playahater

US Air Force Buying Another 2,200 PS3s - http://games.slashdot.org/story...
bleedingpegasus sends word that the US Air Force will be grabbing up 2,200 new PlayStation 3 consoles for research into supercomputing. They already have a cluster made from 336 of the old-style (non-Slim) consoles, which they've used for a variety of purposes, including "processing multiple radar images into higher resolution composite images (known as synthetic aperture radar image formation), high-def video processing, and 'neuromorphic computing.'" According to the Justification Review Document (DOC), "Once the hardware configuration is implemented, software code will be developed in-house for cluster implementation utilizing a Linux-based operating software." Google Analytics May Be Illegal In Germany - http://yro.slashdot.org/story...
sopssa sends in a TechCrunch story that begins "Several federal and regional government officials in Germany are trying to put a ban on Google Analytics, the search giant's free software product that allows website owners and publishers to get detailed statistics about the number, whereabouts, and search behavior of their visitors (and much more)." Here's Google's translation of the article from Zeit Online (original in German). A German lawyer cited there says that penalties for websites that uses Google Analytics could amount to €50,000 (about $75,000). Reader sopssa adds, "The amount of data Google collects from everywhere on the Internet is indeed huge, and website owners should be using a local open source alternative to keep visitor data private."
