What's more, this is no longer an exclusively American crisis. European banks are going under as well. Growth rates in the euro zone and Japan have fallen further than in the U.S. Emerging markets too are suffering. With the exception of Brazil, stock markets in the BRIC economies (Brazil, Russia, India and China) are now down about 40% or more on the year. - Ben Turner

But more blame lies with his philosophy. McCain espouses what he calls a deep belief in free markets and in keeping government off the backs of business. That’s all well and good, except for when a market—like telecommunications—requires intervention in order to create competition. Unrestricted freedom for the big guy often means death to the little guy. - Ben Turner

He called the 2.4 GHz band used by WiFi devices, "the worst chunk of spectrum you could possibly use" due to its limited range, tendency to be blocked by walls, and unsuitability for bandwidth-intensive applications like streaming HDTV. Given the success of WiFi, said Page, "why we're debating whether we need a little more unlicensed spectrum is beyond me." - Ben Turner

As soon as the playoffs are over I can't wait to use this everyday. Keeping a video window minimized is stupid. I wish that youtube would offere a similar option to save bandwidth when i want to listen to lectures. - pixelcrafter via twhirl

On Wednesday, September 24th, right in the middle of the fight over billions of taxpayer dollars slated to bail out Wall Street, the House of Representatives passed a $612 billion defense authorization bill for 2009 without a murmur of public protest or any meaningful press comment at all. (The New York Times gave the matter only three short paragraphs buried in a story about another appropriations measure.) - Ben Turner
