I've filed returns electronically for last 3 years. For first time there was no refund, for second time due to an error in their Excel sheet the refund had to come by cheque and took 12 months, the third refund came in 4 months. Now it's down to 1 month. If you are looking carefully, that's exponential improvement, and tax receipts still go up-up-and away. Also if you are earning less than 5-lacs, please don't bother IT department with a return. Just pay the tax and continue. They are simply not interested in you at all.
