Um, lots of reasons to hate AT&T... right now I'm hating them because after buying the original iPhone, then the iPhone 3G, I now have to pay $399 to upgrade to the same low-end 16GB model that new customers pay $199 for... that does NOT sound like rewarding your customers for their loyalty... it sounds more like punishing them :-(

Rob, I continued with the plan I had (here in Canada) which I started with a plain ol' SIM-based cell phone. I don't have iphone-specific functionality (like visual voicemail) or internet access via cell network, so I just use wifi for email/browsing. It's a 1st gen iphone.

Rob, one tip: to disable iphone trying to access the net through the cell network (which if you don't have a data plan can just get charged at an on-demand rate - not pretty) you need to change the access point name in the settings. SEE http://brent.kearneys.ca/2008...

No iphone. Verizon is way better than AT&T for me. I tried AT&T for 6 months (family plan with my brother) and it was way worse in my travel areas. Doesn't work in my parent's house in Ohio. Drops more calls (and delivers voice-mails late) about 10X as often as Verizon. On the other hand, if I lived in Fairfax, CA, I'd have to have AT&T, since Verizon is poor in north Marin.

Nope! I don't have one and don't want one. My WindowsMobile based HTC Touch Pro has a full keyboard, has less restrictions (totally open system), and has more features. Also, I use Sprint which has faster data speeds anyway, and since I'm on the grandfathered SERO program, I only pay $30/mo for unlimited EVERYTHING. most of my iphone buddies pay at least TRIPLE THAT every month. hahaha, suckers!

Well, I recently moved from a 30D to a 5DMII because it was a huge upgrade for my "system". With a 2 year old Macbook Pro still serving me well for my needs, it's an easy decision. Additionally, I can't see using a 17" notebook over a 15 for portability sake, I'd just as well get an iMac and keep using my Macbook Pro for mobile use.

Is this thing still going? I can't remember if I replied to this yet, but I say it depends on what will benefit you the most. Robert, you are a photo-maniac. I know that you have a few cameras laying around the house, but I don't know how many Macs you have. You have to remember that a 17" laptop sounds great on paper, but I know that you do a lot of traveling as well, so it might now suite your means. Then again, I would never keep $3,000 dollars in my pocket ;)

Freeganism is a movement, borne of a reaction to the mindless consumerism and wastage that goes on around the world. An offshoot of Freeganism, is Dumpster Diving aka Skip Dipping or Urban Gleaning, where people salvage still edible food (as well as other things) by foraging through commercial dumpsters. It's not a huge movement here in Australia but it certainly has a very organised and strong movement in the US and UK. The participants include middle class people, students and pretty much anyone and everyone (ok except maybe A-list celebrities although I wouldn't discount D-List Big Brother reality show types). People that can afford to buy the food, but don't because there is so much thrown out already.
