"Very true - am in the process of learning it the hard way :) Another thing that I learnt is that the fear of failure prevents you from doing things that you would do if you execute fearlessly. In most cases, that makes all the difference between success and failure." - Pranav Bhasin

I like the new Tweetdeck iPhone app for Twitter. What is your favorite Twitter app for iPhone and why? Tell us here:
My personal review is here: http://www.24100.net/2009... - Ralf Rottmann
tweetie - Roamlog
And here is why I continue to stay with... Tweetie! http://www.24100.net/2009... - Ralf Rottmann
twitterfon - simple and it works. - Taavi Uudam
Wish @atebits would do a FriendFeed client though. None of those available is half as good as what we've got for Twitter. - Ralf Rottmann
It was Tweetie, but now it's TweetDeck. - Nathan Chase
Definitely TweetDeck for me. - Nir Ben Yona
Tweetie is my favorite right now, but TweetDeck's cross-platform and now-mobile syncing is getting my attention. - Julio
I'm holding on to TweetDeck, even though it's a bit "crashy" right now. Have confidence they'll fix that. - Mark Traphagen
I just love the new Tweetdeck app ! - Jean-François Amadei
Julio hit it on the head - the syncing between platforms is the killer feature to beat - Nathan Chase
Love TweetDeck on iPod Touch! - Bob Starr
The sync between iPhone and desktop on TweetDeck is a cool feature - rshore
so far my favorite is Reportage. I have tweetdeck installed, but i find it difficult to read, not so with any other twitter client. TweetDeck remains on of my 2 favorite desktop clients, the other being the web client TwitZap.com - Ralph Friedman
Tweetdeck if they can squash the bugs because the syncing is good news. Tie between Tweetie and Twittelator for now. - Warner Crocker
TweetDeck. Syncing to cloud, free. - Ben
Tweetie is favorite for best duplicating the desktop experience. But Tweetdeck has great potential with the syncing feature. It crashes too much right now. - Curt Moss
I've been happy using twitterfon, but I've been playing with tweetdeck, it looks like I might have to switch, syncing is a killer feature - Ken Power
I use Tweetie. The reviews I've seen of Tweetdeck make it seem a bit too much for the iPhone. Are those reviews wrong? - Curt Mercadante
Tweetdeck is the only iPhone app for twitter - planetMitch
I'm still sticking with Twitteriffic. I moved over to Twitterfon because it started lacking with features, but moved back when it finally got the update it so needed. Don't really know why i like it so much, just always have. Just wish they'd update the desktop version too. - Simon Wicks
Curt: it hasn't crashed on me yet. - Robert Scoble
Photogene because I can brand my photos with a text bubble before I upload. - Craig Shipp
Twittelator Pro: myriad of features including URL inline minification/expansion; configurable RT format, pic provider, URL minifier; copy&paste; saving drafts; tweet URLs from Safari; and many more. one of the best apps I have purchased. - Dennis Homann
Has crashed when using its browser feature - Mark Traphagen
My must have iPhone Apps are: > Tweetie > TwitterLink - Allows Safari URL Shortening via bookmarklets > TweetDeck Hopefully TweetDeck can incorporate a few of the missing compenents which are keeping me from dropping the other two apps. - Josh
Still tweetie. Tried others as they emerge, but the familliar interface to a desktop client, search, find user, favorite, trends all make it very powerful. A rework of the RT vs. Via is in order, but I can live with that. - Erik Boles
Definately TweetDeck since it's been launched - Michiel Sikkes
TweetDeck on the iPhone looks great, but I think it's pretty buggy. I constantly get the same notifications displayed and my groups got messed up (and then synced back to the desktop). But I'm looking forward to the next version. - Oliver Bouchard
Twitterrific without hesitating. Tried TweetDeck but still a little buggy in my opinion. - Nuno Ferreira
I use Twitterific and I'm pretty fine with it/ - Parth Awasthi
Tweetie. And, judging from the desktop client, it's only going to get better. - Justin Hileman
I like Tweetie, Twitterrific and TweetDeck but also Twittelator which has a 'Groups' function. Really just waiting for the Seesmic iPhone app which will hopefully sync with Seesmic Desktop a la TweetDeck. - Nick Reynolds
Twittelator. No other iphone app is as feature rich as this one. It also works well with backgrounder (from cydia). - Rohit
Twitterrific has to be the best with UI. - Rohit
I actually use the FriendFeed mobile interface more than anything else to view twitter on my iPod, but after that I use twitterfon. As Taavi said above, it's simple and it works. Thinking about trying the tweetdeck though. My son has it and likes it. - Alex Hellstrom
I went from Twittelator to Tweetie and now to Tweetdeck on iPhone. Tweetdeck is the best thing out there right now IMO for hardcore tweeting, However, Tweetie still rules as a simple, elegant, beautiful UI, client for everyone else. - Dean Kakridas
Tweetie. TweetDeck for iPhone is nice and is a smooth port from desktop to smartphone, but Tweetie is cleaner to me, not as dark or cluttered. - David Price
Alex: yeah I use friendfeed a lot more than other Twitter clients, even on my iPhone. - Robert Scoble
i tried tweetdeck but i like Twittelator Pro more - Crusader
Switched to Tweetdeck after using Twitfon and Twitterific - Jim Haw
Tweetdeck, recent convert from tweetie. It crashes when you add someone to a group column is all. - Jay McCormack
TweetDeck needs Ping.fm integration for selective posting..it feels the lightest of the iPhone Twitter apps and feature wise I think it may now be the most complete..2nd fave is Tweetie. - George Dearing
I'm liking Tweetdeck also but I bounce around from Twitterific to Tweetie also. Like the multiple columns in Tweetdeck. - Jeff Gamble
Definitely Tweetdeck.. I wish I hadn't paid for tweetie.. - Can Koklu
TweetDeck after using TwitterFon for a while. Never used Tweetie and probably won't now. Background notifications on the iPhone would be cool. I can use it for @replys or DMs. - Rolf Schewe
Sadly, I don't have an iphone. Anyone know of a good free symbian app? - Pranav Bhasin
still using tweetie - have tweetdeck if I need to reference through my groups. but when i am mobile i usually only have time to pay attention to replies and directs - so speed and such is more important. Tweetie wins for me. - Tony
I like Tweetie. Nice streamlined interface. Although Tweetdeck is nice, I just haven't used it as much since it came out. - John Fox
Twitterfon, but I might try Tweetdeck now - Paul
I am still using Tweetie but just installed TweetDeck.. seems cool. - nickgs
Love new tweetdeck on iPhone but it's too crashy, darn it! - Susan Beebe
No mention of Nambu here. I use that on MacBook. Anyone use their iPhone client? What do you like/dislike about it? - Larry Hawes
Tweetie, until TweetDeck fixes stability and adds ability to bookmark links. - Tech Introvert
I have tried Nambu but use Twittelator Pro and occasionally Twitterific. Tweetdeck would have to be exceptionally good to be better than either of those. - Gilbert Harding
Tried Tweetdeck (which is my desktop app) on iPhone for a couple of days. Too fiddly. Went back to Twitterfon. Really compact and streamlined. Now trying out Flock on desktop instead if Firefox/Tweetdeck combo. - Narain Jashanmal
it seems to crash every so often. - Francisco Kemeny
Although I have been playing with tweetdeck these past few days, I would still vote for tweetie - Thomas Chai
@Pranav Bhasin: Gravity is a good twitter app for symbian. - Hugh Macdonald
I'm using Tweetie, but edging closer to trying Tweetdeck. Tweetie does do everything I need right now. - Martha
TweetDeck! Used to be Tweetie, but TweetDeck is far better! - Farrell Kramer
Nambu is cool, multiple accounts, persistent search etc, integrated with tr.im/pic.im, unfortunately friendfeed and facebook are still "currently disabled" - Liviu Barbat
I use TwitterFon (nonPro), but have been trying TweetDeck out. It is a little buggy as so far it has crashed out everytime I have used it, but I know this is v1 so am sure it will get better. I actually really like the interface as it is very well thought out. My only other gripe is that you need to go into a tweet's detail to go to a hyperlink, as opposed to twitterfon (and tweetie... more... - Travis Koger
Twitterrific 2.0 (The $4 Premium version). The UI is just spectacular. Combining all your replies and DMs in one stream, but still allowing them to be viewed separately, makes it really easy to interact with Twitter as a stream. Plus, more often than not, I find myself using the multi-post window to easily switch a DM to a reply, or vice versa. It's just great. - David Chartier
Twitterrific 2.0 , tweetie and Tweetdeck in that order - Wayne Sutton
TweetDeck, despite the occasional crashing, is my favorite right now. - Paul Maez
Tweetdeck for sure. I like the feel and look of it. - John Ford
Twitterrific and twitterfon for picking ppl across tweets to thank. - Dave from BuddyFeed
I think I'm still partial to Twitterific - Matthew Vaughan
I use Tweetie. I tried TweetDeck but it crashed when doing what should have been simple operations. - Michael Koby
Reportage has a very refreshing approach. I love it - Guillaume Thoreau
oh Robert Robert... you should really add a poll to your threads from time to time :) as for your question: I have to say that TweetDeck is not my fav until someone new will launch a better app. - Orli Yakuel
I use Nambu because of Friendfeed integration, but if TweetDeck gets this I would definitely switch - Alberto Saavedra from Nambu
Had Twitterific and TwitterFon for seperate accts, but TweetDeck is the best of the bunch. - Dave Martinez
I bought Tweetie, but it seems limited after using other Twitter apps. My favorite is SimplyTweet, lots of features that work well and is being updated often. - Brandon from BuddyFeed
I was a Tweetie guy, but Tweetdeck may be replacing it for me. - Joey Gibson
I played with TweetDeck and liked it, but I simply don't use all of the custom panel stuff that it does, so Tweetie does the job for me just fine. The UI is awesome, responsive and (above all) simple. It does exactly what I want and, more importantly, what I expect it to do. - Brett Kelly
Tweetie : very stable and reliable. Does need a refresh but nice customization options make it for that. - ashish
TweetDeck is my favourite app for the iPhone, although Tweetie is a close second. The sync feature and what I think is slightly better navigation through the different columns put TweetDeck ahead. TweetDeck is also free, which if I hadn't already bought Tweetie, may have had some importance. - 321
I like Tweetie because if I get behind or want to see older tweets, I can just click "More" and it loads more of them. Can't figure out how to do that on the desktop version of TweetDeck, so I'm assuming teh iPhone version doesn't do it either. - RobinDotNet
I like Tweetie. I tried the new TweetDeck and couldn't get into it. So my combo is seesmic on the desktop and Tweetie on the iPhone. We'll see what happens when seesmic introduces their iPhone app, though. - Josh Asbury
Was twitterfon fan but the Tweetdeck groups sync is a winner. - Gregory Go from iPhone

"I do echo your sentiment that facebook fan pages are somewhat redundant for most businesses. I created one with a lot of enthusiasm for lifeblob and it is just sitting there without adding much value to the overall business. However, I do see some of the brands using facebook pages very well in combination with their advertisement on other media to drive user engagement, provide information and get valuable feedback. I think they do serve a very valuable purpose in these short-term kind of campaigns but may not be as valuable for a really long term customer engament." - Pranav Bhasin

Re: Why I Deleted my Facebook Fan Page - http://www.chrisbrogan.com/why-i-d...
"Chris - If it was called a "Facebook Page" instead of a "Facebook Fan Page", would you still delete it? Just trying to assess how big an impact the presentation of a feature can have on end users." - Pranav Bhasin

"I would also recommend looking at http://www.lifeblob.com for social timelines, where you can add people to your timeline posts and have the posts come up on their timelines too. So if you go out on a trip with your friends, you can now simply upload your photos, add their names and the trip post becomes a part of their timelines too. There are over 300,000 existing timeline that you can join - check this for a sample: http://www.lifeblob.com/topic... Pranav Bhasin http://www.lifeblob.com/user..." - Pranav Bhasin

How much time do you spend each day on relationship building? How many folks do you connect with just to say hi?
Hi Chris. Not that many. I tend toward the typical geek introversion, but I'm working on it. Thanks for asking! - Bruce Lewis
I´m not deliberately or consciously "relationship building", and I don´t "connect just to say hi", I just say "hi" (and usually something more) and let human nature take its own course. But I guess that´s not the "pro" answer you were looking for ? :) - Thomas Bøhm
Not enough - work is randomizing - just when you think you have time to do something - something else comes up. - Dan Morrill AKA Techwag
Now that you ask this question, I see the significance. But I don't generally connect with folks to just say Hi - normally talk to them only when there is something meaningful to discuss. - Pranav Bhasin
Sometimes too much time on visiting and not enough time helping those in need. - Owen Greaves

Re: The Next Layer Of The Social Media Stack - http://www.avc.com/a_vc...
"I think aggregation and filtering is a good start, but not good enough to sustain in the long run. A service needs more meat on top of it to add value and that in my mind comes from inferences driven from aggregated data or showing how diverse pieces of data are related to each other in some manner." - Pranav Bhasin
Pranav Bhasin
"Makes perfect sense. I've noticed that every time I stumble and acknowledge my fault, a new path opens up, and it in more cases than not leads to a better result. Also I think informal discussions have the potential to give a lot of insights that you may not get if you are too focussed on an outcome. I just haven't figured out a way to make it work for myself yet." - Pranav Bhasin
Pranav Bhasin
"Adam - Your suggestion is spot on. Thanks :)" - Pranav Bhasin
Pranav Bhasin
"I think that more than just being "naked" you also need an ability to reach out to others, something that does not come as easily to an introvert like me. Another thing that I have a hard time dealing with is the number of social tools you've just got to be on to connect with people. I feel that all these social tools are just a channel and eventually it is a personal connection between two people that will help - multiple tools just make it a lot harder to build strong connections." - Pranav Bhasin

"Yup, I have used swurl in the past. Lifeblob's killer feature is how you get to see relationships of each post behind it in a timeline format. The timeline is loading for me, perhaps a temporary glitch. If you are still facing issues, I hope it would not be too much to ask if I request you to send your OS and browser versions to feedback [at] lifeblob.com and we will look into it immediately." - Pranav Bhasin

Let me get this straight. I am in an Irish bar in Guangzhou China with free wifi and I can write that the Chinese should unblock all bloggers. What is wrong here?
The thought police are en-route... please remain in your seat. - Mike Kogelman from IM
The only police that are here asked me to pay the bill. - Robert Scoble
The two secret police officers waiting outside to take you in :-P - Amit Morson
Now that's good police work. Did they ask you to pay their bill as well? :) - Mike Kogelman
EEP. Be careful! - Tanya
My credit is getting crunched! Damn communists! :-) - Robert Scoble
Hi Robert, I've been following your posts from China and I'm quite impressed. Are we witnessing a radical change in China ? Should we be worried that this change will bring a major impact to our economies (bigger than the one we have already witnessed) ? - Miguel Albano
They are probably not as concerned about foreigners saying that. It's kind of expected really. It can be easy to think situation is better than it is, but undeniably I share your belief that the democratic situation is slowly improving. We shall not forget that democracy and freedom of speech must be reached by willing people in their own tempo. - Monia
There's always a work-around - paul mooney
It reminds me what Roger Waters once said "Fear Builds Walls" chinese government must be afraid on giving power to the people... - Peter Palatnik
Is there a moo.com competitors there? I can't find any. - adolfo foronda
Damn, Scoble's charm always saves him ;) - Pranav Bhasin
the Chinese are at a cross-rounds, the fred exchange of ideas is good for the country but bad for the government. I'm sure they'll find a work around, the Chinese have been the ultimate pragmatist for centuries. - Robert Hafer
The question is, can locals do that? You're a foreigner, and in the foreign media. They want you to be happy with your stay and report good things about China. I'm not sure, until they become a non-Communistic country, that the locals have complete freedom over there. - Jesse Stay
you will never leave the country alive - sofarsoShawn
You have 30 seconds... - Carlos Granier-Phelps
Imagine if they did stomp on Scoble. He would get tons of press for it, they would look bad, and only Robert wins. So I'm sure it's a strategic reason he is being left alone. I used to get emails from a record label in China. Haven't for years. He just disappeared. - MarkCarras
It's in their best interest to make an American think things are becoming freer, really. See if you can talk to some locals about this stuff, maybe then you'll start getting some pushback. - Victor Ganata
News of the day. Blogger Robert Scoble mysteriously disappeared, never to be heard from again. - gfurry
Wait, wait, wait.... Hold on here... Irish giving anything away for free? - MVB (Curmudgeon of FF)
They don't monitor everyone, trust me. You have to be a person of interest (well, I FIND YOU interesting). - Claudia Cragg
Those are good questions, can a local do the same thing? - Daltonsbriefs
can locals get together in China and blog about stuff that's on their mind? a reminder that Scoble is at CNBloggercon. 500 of China's top bloggers getting together. are there still limitations and restrictions. yes. positive change in China has been an evolution, not revolution. the former requiring patience. the latter being the quickest way to shut down positive change. - Christine Lu
But can a Chinese blogger openly criticize the central government? - Victor Ganata
Can locals do this? What I've heard is that they have and they often get away with it. But once in a while someone gets thrown into prison for speaking out too much, or too harshly, so they've learned to be nuanced with their criticism, or use humor. Several people were wearing shirts with river crabs on them. That is a direct criticism of the government, but in a way that no government official would be able to throw them in jail for. People are very resourceful in coming up with ways around stupid rules. - Robert Scoble
When I was in China a couple of years ago, except for momentary censoring on CNN, I saw no incursions into my freedom - Francine Hardaway from IM
And, yes, locals discuss this, and many other items very openly. The newspapers here have tons of news about the milk poisoning. That is a huge change from when I was last here (the state-owned media would have never discussed something like that here). Is it perfect? No way. Far from it. But it's a lot better than most people realize and it's changing fast. - Robert Scoble
I want to buy some of these subversive river crab shorts. Or possibly a river crab tie. Can't we all get behind subtly sticking it to the man? - Andrew
Occasional: I want one that says "I've been harmonized." (Blocked by Chinese censors). A river crab one would be fun too. - Robert Scoble
Perfect! And for those of you who did not catch Headbanger's reference to River Crab: rconversation.blogs.com/rconversation/2007/09/eating-river-cr.html - lonnie b hodge
Yesterday, I was interviewed by a European TV station after my Bloggercon presentation and they harped on the political ramifications of the event. I am far more interested in the global connections that will come of you and Shel Israel, David Feng and others being part of an amazing gathering of bloggers from across Asia. - lonnie b hodge
Lonnie - I wasn't referencing that, but Robert's comment previous to mine, but that is completely awesome. Thanks for the info! - Andrew
When you can read my blog of reviews for newer software that works on old slow 9x machines, from China (without using a proxy), we'll talk about it. Even my software site was blocked in China till I changed hosting at the beginning of this year. There is a whole lot of completely harmless non-political stuff that is blocked just to make sure other stuff on the same host can't be viewed. And this is how their actions affect ALL of us...not just people living in China. - April Russo (app103)
I mean, that's sort of what I expected. You can say what you like as long as you're careful and don't piss off the wrong people. But there's still that "as long as" part. - Victor Ganata
Jeremiah Owyang
Chrome will be very powerful if they roll out the social graph. Imagine, EVERY websites will be social --even if they choose not to be
If you're on here (FF), Jeremiah, can you explain that? - Kamilah Gill
that's pretty much it, every website will be social - Jeremiah Owyang
chrome will be even more awesome when i can use it in Mac OS - @baratunde from twhirl
The hue and cry that the privacy brigade will make will be much louder than what happened with Gmail or Beacon. Neat idea though. - Pranav Bhasin
What social graph are you talking about, though? I haven't heard of any such thing (other than Orkut, if that's the kind of thing you mean?) from Google in a long time, so I'm out of the loop. - Kamilah Gill
Ah, now I understand Chrome - excellent point, Jeremiah! - Jesse Stay

10 Reasons Why the New Microsoft Social Network Spaces.Live.Com is Not for Thomas Hawk - http://thomashawk.com/2008...
after spending a few hours today on Microsoft's new social network I wrote up 10 reasons why it's not for me. I'm continuously surprised at how a company with such vast resources can put out something so crappy. I could totally understand if this were a 10 person startup, but I would have expected something much better than this from Microsoft. - Thomas Hawk
And I thought it only looked crappy to me :) - Pranav Bhasin
Ok, I'm super lame. Even though the Microsoft video on TechCrunch said "You can start adding updates from your web activities to Windows Live today. All you need is an id. Get started at home.live.com." This service actually isn't supposed to come out until Dec. Tom Conrad said. I think I just reviewed their existing service not the new one. I wish their video didn't say "today." - Thomas Hawk

I dig the alt text! - LogEx
love the alt text *cackle* - Michael W. May
lol re:alt text - mikepk
This is actually really important to me right now. I just posted .jpgs of text on our biz site and it looks great. I was wondering if .pngs wouldn't be better looking. - Anika
png also allows transparency to be set - Michael W. May
Transparency FTW! - LogEx
Is it true that IE *still* doesn't support PNG properly? - Victor Ganata
I don't know how to make transparent files. When I save my .png they come out with white backgrounds. :( - Anika
So are they saying that Flickr has it wrong, and that my digital photos should be uploaded to the web as png? They don't really state when one should use jpg and when to use png. And I definitely don't want my photos to look "trashy" as they put it. - Wizetux
@Victor IE6 doesn't know how to show PNG24 transparency - Shey, Jamaican of FF
@Anika What program are you using? - Shey, Jamaican of FF
I prefer PNG format myself - Susan Beebe
I like how the JPG guy in this comic has compression artifacts. @wizetux JPG was invented to compress photos, so they will look fine, usually. However, JPG doesn't do so well on thinks like text and line art... or anything with really high contrast actually. - Phil G
Wheres SVG? - Roberto Bonini
author here. glad you guys liked it.. friendfeed just became my new favorite website...@wiztux: jpg is ideal for photos, so no, flickr doesn't have it wrong - Louis Brandy
Hey Louis, welcome to FF. Looking forward to more of your comics. - Thomas Hawk
Hi Louis - that was really funny!, thanks!! :) - Susan Beebe
really really good! - Marcos Marado
Shey, I use Photoshop, but I'm not a genius at it. It seems that whenever I make a transparent graphic for the web, and I go to save it, it gives me the 4 options. And then tells me I have to merge everything and next thing you know it's a white background. - Anika
Welcome to FF, Louis. - Anika
Louis, Thomas, or anyone - how much larger, on average, is a PNG file vs. a JPG file? My image excursions are primarily limited to BMP and JPG. - Ontario Emperor
@Anika Use the File --> Save For Web command and be sure the Transparency is checked in the Save for Web dialog box - Shey, Jamaican of FF
@Anika: Are you using Slices? That's the best way. - John Wang
@OntarioEmp. It depends entirely on the image content and the file settings. For "computer-generated" things with low numbers of colors (like logos or diagrams) a well optimized PNG is usually smaller (and better-looking) than a JPEG. For anything with alot of color and gradients (like a photo), JPEG is superior and will be many times smaller than a PNG. - Louis Brandy
@Shey, that's what I do (I think), but I doesn't work for me. I get a white background. @John, I have no idea what Slices is. Is that a program or tool in PS? @Sean, thanks for the tip. I'll look into that. - Anika
@Anika: It's a tool. check out School of Photoshop ( http://www.tutorial9.net/photosh... ) - John Wang
I wonder what GIF has to say about this. He lacks transparency but man can he move :) - Andrew Smith
lol nice! - Alan Le
@Shey what about IE7 or IE8 in terms of transparency support? - Victor Ganata
Couldn't help laughing :) - Pranav Bhasin
Love it! - Mark Douglass

5 Sickening Habits of Mainstream Websites
Show all
I've begun to notice this more and more recently - articles that have no business being split are spread across several pages. Are we losing the ability to scroll or something? - Slippy "Threadsbane" Lane
By paging even short articles they probably aim to increase page view count, ad-hits etc on the expense of usability. Cheap. - Jemm
I think they're trying to generate more pageviews and ad impressions. - Jess Lee
i hate it and sometime even move away from the page when websites split articles into multiple pages ... - Raza from Alert Thingy
it is all about impressions. Some sites (like NYTimes.com mobile) give you a link to view the full text of the article on one page. Normally I use that option especially when on my mobile as I do not like waiting for next page to load. - Davide D'Incau
They forgot to add that when they have RSS feeds, they are not full text feeds. Partials really annoy me. Oh and media content that does not appear properely or play in an RSS reader/Google Reader - Ian D. Nock
I don't even bother anymore, I just skip to the printable version. - EricaJoy
I head right for the printable view as well. - abacab
Paging sucks. - Thomas Hawk
Duncan, stop Bitching! LMAO - Igor The Troll יִצְחָק
Its time ad impressions stopped driving the design. - Pranav Bhasin
All great points/annoyances. Pop-ups and registrations are my biggest frustrations. - Jill Howard Allen
There has to be a balance. Pagination is good for page views but if an article is long it often helps readability as well. Sadly, when presented a long article, many just walk away. Chunking it makes it bite size, which doesn't overwhelm users and gives them a sense of accomplishment from finishing a page. Clearly shorter pieces shouldn't be paginated, but the attention span of the average user is ... - AJ Kohn
They won't listen to this, even if they believe 'Content is KING', they won't change their habits. Use the site and the real-estate of the site intelligently and the crowd will flock. But they won't do it. Mostly, I prevent visiting such a site and read via RSS or something. But how about those who don't give full article on RSS. And its right, I have never clicked on Ads, ever. - Jayavasanthan J
Sounds like we need a Firefox plugin or Greasemonkey script that will ping a server, find out if the page you're on has a "Print" link to the article, and display that instead of the original page. Printable versions are actually still pretty usable these days. - Jeff Eddings
I'm personally boycotting sites that throw interstitial pages up before showing the article -- I think they don't value me as a user. - Jeff Eddings
they are all still stuck on the pageview model, and will be so until their advertisers and ABC ratings move into the 21st century. By 2015 perhaps - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
I hate when they do that... Or when I'm at work and CNN, for example, has a headline that links only to a video, with no transcription. Seriously CNN, I can't always sit and watch a video at work, especially since I share my workspace with other people. - Adam C.
@Gregory, that doesn't make sense. What's stopping someone from tossing 10 Google ads along the vertical of a page instead of 2 ads on 5 pages? - Rudolf Olah
but what can they do when their advertisers use page views as a way to choose who they advertise on? ABC should be smarter but their rankings use that as well. If you dont do it, you end up being considered "too small" for many campaigns. - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
the trick: go to the "print" view to get the article all on one page. - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)

What a day in Shenzhen, see the photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos... -- the biggest city hall I've ever seen.
If you get a chance, visit Shanghai & Hangzhou. That is the best contrast of concrete vs nature I have ever seen. - Pranav Bhasin
Pranav: we were in Shanghai three days ago. It's very different from Shenzhen. We're going to Guangzhou Saturday. Hong Kong Monday. - Robert Scoble

Perhaps Un-Branding is the latest way to reach customers, see McDonalds in Japan http://inventorspot.com/article...
Interesting way of having the products speak instead of main brand. This looks like mainly to be about creating new minimal brand with limited set of features. Might work for some since having limited amount of things to choose from will make probably it somewhat faster to get products from store. - Daniel Schildt
It may be a good way to cut costs, but why is it a better way to reach customers ? A McDonald unbranded store will still generate a lot of publicity because they already have a brand, but will it be the same if I start an unbranded burger joint today ? Perhaps not! - Pranav Bhasin
When I worked at Microsoft our Channel 9 site had NO Microsoft branding. That was back in 2004. - Robert Scoble

Re: Bustup Not Bailout - http://www.avc.com/a_vc...
"Some of these business are just too elementary for existence and repercussions of them going bust are just too severe. An airline shutting down is going to take a large number of small and medium businesses along with it as well. A lot of big companies don't have the guts to cut the fat and if they are pushed into a corner ( by not being offered a bailout ), they may just be forced to price their services beyond reasonable limits to offset the costs. How do you deal with that ?" - Pranav Bhasin

I just wanted to say that if you twitter, you should be focused on less things and not talk too much BS...like for example if I am tech guy...why would I talk about "the hills" ? lol - Live Crunch Blog
Depends what you want. If you want to come over every night and drink beer, Twitter and FriendFeed aren't scalable. If you want to share interesting news items, URLs, and stories, then Twitter and FriendFeed are pretty damn scalable. - Robert Scoble
But what if you're suddenly the voice of a company? What if you're using those tools to be the next Frank Eliason, only for, say, Keebler foods? What if you're the new person tasked with using these tools to move the world? - Chris Brogan
I liked it! I also checked out the comments, and scrolled down to the end. Noticed a FriendFeed widget. Check it out, because it says it's 1969!. Oops. File this as a bug. Anyway, I am living this, as I try to be the online personification of the Plaxo brand (not in an exclusive way, but certainly with full enthusiasm. Scale is a real question here. - John McCrea
If you are really open, there will be ways to scale and to have a discussion with the masses. It is when you, as the voice of the company, only want to preach and not learn that it starts breaking. - Pranav Bhasin
While I think it would be harder to be personal with almost everyone it is very possible if you are ambitious enough about your readers. If I had that many readers I would make sure to personally thank them because after all they would be the reason I got popular if I did. - Freddy Gipson
Until someone sees there targeted audience expand, or some other specific goal come to fruition, they remain dancing around in a type of denial saying the scalable isn't so...seems many naysayers do not know what they really want... - Richard Reeve
Chris: thanks for the post. I just added my thoughts here: http://www.chrisbrogan.com/the-mat.... At Dell, we'll soon be launching our existing tools (blogs + forums + wikis) in a new way. I'm hoping this will make it easier for our customers to find content that means something to them--whether or not it's Dell folks that point them to the answer or members of our community do. - LionelatDell

Re: The Next Trend in Organizations? Y Combinator-like Funds - http://www.socialtimes.com/2008...
"Given how low the cost of launching a technology startup is, this testing-the-waters-before-going-full-force approach makes perfect sense. However, if there are too many investors following this model and not enough good ( committed ) entrepreneurs, the tide may just turn against it eventually." - Pranav Bhasin
