Anxiety is a super-lightweight To-do list application for Mac OS X Leopard that synchronizes with iCal and Mail. Its aim is to provide a streamlined, easily accessible interface to add and check off your tasks, while remaining poised to melt into the background at a moments notice.
- Leandro Ardissone ⍨
It's a slick looking app, but apps without any sync or cloud capabilities are pretty limited. Wish it had a way of syncing like Evernote.
- Pras Sarkar
For what I need it for it works. I don't need something that syncs with the cloud or anything. I just need something that works on my laptop.
- Mathew™ one of a kind
For me, it's indexing PDF images. For example, if I scan something at work, Evernote won't index it. I have to take the intermediate step of doing a snapshot of the PDF to get it to index. Evernote has said on their forums that they plan on adding this functionality though.
- Matt
have they added Blackberry functionality yet? I haven't looked recently.

Most recently, a client for the G1. There's also a running list of ideas in this thread (early in the creation of this room): http://friendfeed.com/e...

Share in a workgroup. I would like to share with select other Evernote users.
- CW™
Send notes via email in text mode when possible, not always as an attached PDF.
- Rubin Sfadj
I wish Evernote worked in landscape mode on my iPhone.
- Chris Rodgers
stop hijacking tags with undesired autocomplete as I type them.
- Jon Price
Better resolution of business cards when taking them on the iPhone; they come out very blurry :(
- Sally Church
Automatic saving when editing Web Notes. Spent lunch working out notes on a project in evernote. Clicked Save and it said "Sorry - Performing Maintenance." Went back and it was all gone - ALL OF IT. If I owned the computer it would've been thrown through the window.
- James Hull
I want to be able to edit images once they are in EN. At least, rotate and resize them. But it is cool that the text recognition works even if the image is rotated!
- Tony Vota
A reminder (for instance, to remind me that I should read important meeting notes a few hours later).
- Peter Ghosh
share and collaborate on select notes or entire notebooks. In the first case, it would be edits only. In the second, others would be able to add notes as well.
- Marnie Webb
Better OCR. Shared would be great as I share a bunch of stuff with the gf in Google Notebook.
- Jauder Ho
A more structured flexible todo list like Remember The Milk. That'll force me to switch over to 100% Evernote!
- Pras Sarkar
the ability to rotate images in the evernote client
- paul
You can do that in the Windows client, Paul. Right click on the picture, choose Picture->Edit. Then click on whichever direction you want in the dialog that pops up under Rotate (or define the angle). There are other editing options there too.
- Her Lindsay-ness
Rotating in the Mac client. And OCRing PDFs.

I really wish I could automatically import content from RSS feeds. I've been messing about trying to import my tumblr entries via email (RSSfwd) and the results have been rather unsatisfactory.
- David Adam
David, I haven't been able to get RSSFwd to work for me either... If you don't mind your RSS feed posts being sent as a daily collection, I'd recommend using FeedBurner like I am (see comments here: http://friendfeed.com/e...). That works pretty well.
- Her Lindsay-ness
Thanks for the tip Lindsay. I got Feedburner working but I couldn't stand the formatting; the tumblr feed looked awful after being imported. Maybe I should try importing my FF items instead, that might work out a bit better.
- David Adam

Though it may cause many to change their usage, I wish the tags were a cloud. I'm used to Delicious and others. I would love to see the font of tags manipulated based on their use.

RE: image rotation in Evernote on the Mac... I just figured out how to do it... Right-click on the image in question, and select 'Open with', then open the image with Preview. Select 'Tools' on the menu bar, and then select 'Rotate Left' or 'Rotate Right'. Then, close the Preview window, making sure to save your change. This will change the image orientation in Evernote.

Interesting read about how the automotive industry may be at the crux of an electric revolution similar to personal computing in the 80s/90s.

The author makes some very interesting points about whether life hacks are indeed productivity boosting as they are claimed to be.

Clean, simple, the Google trademarks. (It's also looking a lot like Zoho)
- Gary Burge
I think I prefer the new look, seems cleaner.
- Robert Nelson
Needs a few Greasemonkey tweaks but overall it's better.
- richrecruiter
looks cleaner but less usable to quickly scan things, due to the far lower contrast (no more blue highlight and menu background). Everything blends together on my screen. Will get used to it, i guess. The typography does not look harmonious, they ought to tweak font sizes and spacing a bit.
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
too much white! I would have loved to see it go in a different direction.
- vijay
i got confused. i meant to like this one. looks cleaner for sure. i LOVE helvetireader script though. it kills
- Cee Bee
+1 for Helvetireader! Lots of space and clean to the max.
- vijay
I haven't seen the new gReader.. but you know what still looks gorgeous? Feedly. ;)
- Phil G
I don't like it yet. It feels sharp and poorly spaced. But I'll get used to it.
- Glen Turpin
I like it. If you were new to reader this would be an easier interface to use, IMO.
- Clay Newton
pretty much the only reason i use google reader instead of another web service is that it used to be fast (not anymore) and the social feed websites integrate with it.
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
It's too early to tell, Sarah. It does look -- *brighter*
- Jorge Escobar
I like it, just hope a redesign means that they bring in themes.
- Zach Chisholm
Any idea how to decollapse the navigation pane back again? I don't say a way to undo the evil that I did.
- Todd Hoff
I was expecting something drastic so I'm a little disappointed. Seems like more of the same with a little cleanup. Nothing offensive and certainly no major changes that make it bad.
- Kenton
I'm inclined to say that the new Google Reader is much superior to the old GR.
- Jamelle
Love the feature upgrades, style is a little stark for me.
- Kamath (नमः)
Disagree. I was so used to the previous version. But that's because I live there.
- Louis Gray
I actually didn't like it when I signed in after getting home. Perhaps I was far too used to the previous look? It's practically always open in another tab. But I'm getting used to it, and it's not too bad..
- deepikaur
I like it, but I want to hide the "Friends shared items" from the sidebar. That's the one feature I don't use.
- Larry Hudson
Like, but I also want to see which blogs you put in the B, C, and D-list, Sarah. :)
- Matt Cutts
Looks sweet, but appears to show less articles on the screen at once.
- Mike Reynolds
like the new google reader and i like sarah too
- Zee.
Haven't seen it yet, as I use Feedly.
- Grant Bierman
I like that I can now find the "Add Subscription" button without scouring the left-hand pane for 5 minutes
- Craig Eddy
Some things are better. Two things I don't like is that the font size in the feed panel on the left seems to have doubled, and sometimes keyboard shortcuts don't work.
- Tanath
liek it, but it looks weird with Helvetireader now - and that was soooo nice... well, hope for a Helvetireader and Better GReader greasemonkey updates now.
- Peter Efland
The script helps, but it has a downside too. When you mark an item as read with 'm' the highlighting goes away. Why can't anything be perfect? :P
- Tanath
loving most of it - especially the collapsing of stuff, but hoping for themes soon. having occasional problems with the keyboard shortcuts though :(

I use this on my iPhone, it's pretty great when I'm looking for a specific track and it's not on my phone at the time. I have one problem that it seems not to catalogue all of my songs no matter how many times I refresh or reinstall.

Their daap plugin hosed rhythmbox under Linux/Ubuntu for me. Might have been a simple fix, but I had no time to mess with it, so away it went. Works great under Windows, tho, in my limited testing.

I was using it for a while (until I lost local admin on my laptop) .. works well as long as you can install the software on each machine. Otherwise, I am currently using Subsonic: subsonic.sourceforge.net

Thanks folks. Sounds like it's decent. I've been successfully using Winamp remote / Orb and just saw that they have also released an iPhone app so I might have to look at that too.

Last night I ordered another hard drive for my drobo -- a 1TB Seagate drive on Amazon. At checkout I noticed that the low price retailer I'd chosen was going to charge me sales tax. So I canceled the order and bought it from another retailer without sales tax. Sales tax is for chumps.
I love my drobos, I've got four. I've never lost any data on any of them. How did you lose the data Ethan?
- Thomas Hawk
I won't buy from any retailer online that charges me sales tax. I've never once found the after tax price cheaper ever.
- Thomas Hawk
I'll pay tax if the deal is right. Bought something from an in-state seller on ebay the other day. They had the best price - even with shipping and tax. It just arrived. The next best deal was out of China. It would have cost more with shipping and taken two weeks to get here. A no-brainer.
- Julie Barrett
http://www.boe.ca.gov/sutax... You generally owe California use tax when you use, consume, give away or store tangible personal property (i.e., products you can see, weigh, feel or touch, such as clothing, books, computers, DVDs or CDs) in California that you purchased from an out-of-state vendor. If the out-of-state vendor does not collect the California tax on your purchase, you must pay the tax.
- David Thomas
I'll order from Amazon even if tax pushes the cost a little higher than elsewhere. Prime, the convenience of dealing with a trusted party and having easy access to all my records in one place is worth a few bucks to me.
- felix
Aren't you technically supposed to pay that sales tax when filing yearly tax returns?
- Pras Sarkar
wow, David. I had no idea that you still are supposed to pay tax on stuff you order without sales tax. That's wild. I bet hardly anyone pays that tax. How do they keep track of all of that?
- Thomas Hawk
It's simply a question of who has the lowest bottom line price, and that includes tax and shipping. On rare occasions, it's still cheaper than anywhere else even with those included.
- Eric P
They don't keep track of it, it's on the honor system. Can't believe no sales-tax on the net has lasted this long. I think it will come to an end, soon.
- Jake Rome
Ethan: I'm also curious as to how you lost terabytes of data from a Drobo. Did you have multiple concurrent drive failures? I <3 my Drobo.
- Mitch
I bet 99% of people don't pay sales tax on out of state purchases.
- Thomas Hawk
I've had individual drives fail on my drobos. Usually I just pop out the bad drive and insert a new good drive in and the drobo heals itself. I've never lost more than one drive at a time.
- Thomas Hawk
Ask @BWJones on Twitter about his recent Drobo data loss. He got zero support from Drobo even though he owns 5 of them and has prospects of purchasing many more. Issue is that Drobo doesn't have any data recovery solution when their array setup fails. Scares me a bit now with my 2 Drobos, though my important data is also stored again on another external HD.
- Jeremy Hall
Simple rule of thumb with data.... Always have it in three places at any given time.
- Joel Tanner
@THawk: Yeah I think unless you lost your drobo in a fire or something, about the only way you could lose data is from a major device malfunction. It seems unlikely that two drives would fail at the same time.
- Mitch
A drobo isn't, in of itself, a backup solution. It protects against one particular kind of failure. It's not a substitute for redundant copies on different physical devices (and a drobo only counts as one device). The drobo can fail. The operating system can corrupt the data on it. The house can burn down. Etc.
- Eric P
But without sales taxes, it would be impossible for local governments to pay for their cruises. Like here in Virginia where everything...everything is taxed!
- Mike Lewis
from twhirl
I've had my Drobo for the last year, and so far, so great. Need to pick up another drive for it to round out to 2 TB. Excellent backup solution.
- Susan Dennis
I tend to agree that most people don't pay use tax. In most states, you are supposed to self-report as part of your income tax return. I'm a tax lawyer, so my "I didn't know" argument would be met with some skepticism, so I pay.

@Pras, from my experience with it so far...the main benefit of Twingr over Yammer is the idea of multi-communities with one login. So almost like as if twitter had groups
- Zee.
Wow, I didn't know that Zee. I never like Killerstartups, because it's messy and RSS feeds are really messy too to read, it's almost impossible (I think). But that thing makes me more hate KSU...

I'm getting sick and tired of Firefox automatically updating (w/ no permission). I refreshed GMAIL and the UI was different. I totally thought my browser was crapping out. How is that ok? Seriously.
- Mona Nomura

I hate the fact that the new firefox just periodically locks up and won't refresh my screen when I close a tab on my PC at home. It never did that before and now I have to quit and restart it several times a day. I liked the old firefox better.
- Thomas Hawk
these softwares are getting minds of their own...

Seems there should be an option to turn off automatic updating on firefox even if it is within the cryptic about:config I seem to recall there is an option in the firefox preferences to enable or disable auto updating.
- Raymond Marr aka Knatchwa
Firefox is the new IE (and I don't mean that in the good sense)
- Pras Sarkar
Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> Updates in FireFox to configure update options. And I agree: automatic updates without any say in the matter is just poor.
- Kevin C. Tofel
@Ray Marr -- Tools > Options > Advanced > Update, check Ask me what I want to do.
- Ray Metzen
Hmm, the UI didn't change for me with Gmail
- Mo Kargas
@Mo -- it will, the feature hasn't been rolled out to all accts yet
- Ray Metzen
Thanks Ray :) If its an auto change, that's a bit off. Google should know that will alarm some people. Ideally they should just use the red 'new' text in the top right menu like usual to alert people that themes are available, like they did with video chat.
- Mo Kargas
Yeah I just came back to my gmail inbox and all the colors had changed...wasn't sure if it was my machine or what. But at least I had been waiting all day for themes to be enabled on my account so I was able to put 2 and 2 together fairly quickly. But for users who don't read the latest tech news all day it could be a bit confusing.

Yeah, seeing the new theme w/out warning irritated me to. Would have been better to leave the old theme as the default. @Andrew Smith -- you can select Settings > Themes > Classic to get the old theme back.
- Ray Metzen
Thanks Ray... It was weird the borders were super fat and I didn't have access to themes yet. All good now.
- Andrew Smith
For a company that prides itself on user experience, it's really not like Google to release some updates without putting it at the top with the big red NEW tag. So strange.
- Devlin Dunsmore
Odd. My Gmail didn't change colors, but I have a notification at the top of the page. Or is the change subtle? It could just be because I'm color blind. And I guess that's one of the advantages of running Firefox nightly builds custom compiled for my CPU—no auto-updates :)
- Victor Ganata
I had a clear notification at the top of my Gmail page. And the UI change (i.e. border around the list) is fairly minor, nothing to alarm or irritate me. Many other Gmail updates (Lab related) are announced in the blog. If you don't like the Firefox security updates, turn them off as indicated by Ray above. It's on by default for security purposes.
