"Archaeologists excavating a site in East London have made an "extremely rare and unprecedented" find -- a delicately detailed dish made of hundreds of pieces of tiny glass petals, the Museum of London Docklands announced Wednesday. The "millefiori" dish (the name means "thousand flowers") was found buried in the grave of a Roman Londoner, the museum said."

"A massive cultural extravaganza is being planned to cap off the Fifth Summit of the Americas taking place next weekend at the Hyatt Regency, Port of Spain. The concert is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, at the Queen's Park Savannah, Port of Spain, utilising the still-standing Carnival stage. Very little information about the concert was available, but sources said the concert will feature elements of classical music, jazz, gospel, folk, reggae, kaiso and soca music performed by local and regional acts."

"Mulgao, a village situated three kilometres from Bicholim, is home to fifty temples and shrines. Deities originally from Moira, Pomburpa, Serula of Bardez were shifted to Mulgao during the Portuguese regime. Besides the existing temples, the village also has temples, with deities like Kelbai, Sateri, which were founded by the comunidade of Mulgao. On the fifth day of the first fortnight of Chaitra, the first month of Hindu calendar, the unique Pethechi Zatra is celebrated in the temple of Kelbai. This year the five-day zatra is being held from March 31."

"Macedonia has set aside some funds for the continuation of the archeological excavations and has publish brochures for the promotion of the megalithic observatory at the ancient Kokino site in north-eastern Macedonia. The Ministry of Culture this year dedicated 120,000 Macedonian dinars (around 1,940 euro) for archaeological research of the ancient Kokino observatory, which has been nominated for the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Vecher newspaper reported recently."

"The cover of Robert's book describes her work as a "kaleidoscope of legends, stories, field notes, images, reports, history letters and research." In response to the unique style of her work, Roberts said, "My interest in stories would never cohere in [a] straight forward [way]." She did not want to force the story into a certain mold. "Each piece of material had to tell its own story with its own syntax," she said. One of the biggest challenges Roberts faced in actually writing the book was that "it was not a book about me… I wanted to be a cultural detective," she said. Although her chapters varied in content, she wanted to make sure the stories were linked by the voice of a narrator."

"What began as a discussion in 1999 became a reality Monday when President Obama signed the Omnibus Public Land Management, which created the Muscle Shoals National Heritage Area. Congressman Parker Griffith, D-Huntsville, joined a bipartisan group of lawmakers at The White House on Monday as the bill was signed. Former Congressman Bud Cramer, who retired in 2008 after serving in Congress for 18 years, first introduced the bill to form the Muscle Shoals Heritage Area in 2001."
