On the footnote, I think Microsoft should simply release a branded version of Firefox (like Netscape did) and use it. They don't really get anywhere by developing IE, so they would save a lot of development costs, while still having a web browser.

I think the browser as the window into all this new online applications has a huge value. If they close or not this window is a more strategic stance than a project decision.

Microsoft should release a new version of Windows with Firefox as the desktop. All our work is moving online. Might as well keep the browser as the desktop.

@Jake I'm with you. Just slap the extra MS bits around NT authentication on it and call it a day.

I just realized that Firefox already has NT Auth built in, just have to give it a whitelist. Maybe they need this in the options dialog to bring it to light: http://www.crossedconnections.org/w...
