I've also encountered cats that will eat things that can't possibly be very palatable to them. Lettuce, and such... just willing to eat carbon-based stuff that has water in it.
- Christopher A Carr
By contrast, my dog would be in heaven to steal a blueberry pie off the counter...
- Christopher A Carr
hehe :) he seriously eats anything. garlic, bread, veggies, cheese, pasta.. you name it X) always on my plate when having dinner
- Nia
Bread is yeasty, and that is palatable to a cat. Cats like cheese, and cats like pasta with cheese on it.
- Christopher A Carr
I actually found the thing that cats like best of all. Seared duck breast.
- Christopher A Carr
can't wait to see how they react in Christmas eve when Jemm is eating dinner. Probably all 3 cats will be sitting on the table and staring intense while trying to get food :D
- Nia
oh no. I've had that happen too, and I fully agree, it's really better to be just too careful. One can never mend the damage once the data is lost: hours of passion and concentration, where do all the bits and bites go when they are lost :l :(
- veganswines
It was one of those nights where my pen was on fire too. Some of my best editing style-wise, ever. Painful moment:( I don't know where lost bytes go. Searched several folders hoping I absentmindedly saved it to the wrong location. Found nothing. I saved throughout the course of the editing, so it should have saved something, at some point. I guess there was just a huge glitch throughout the session.
- PurpleZoe
That's interesting, that you lost it although you saved it. I had a similar scenario. What I do now, right when I write and save something (every breathing break I save too) I also make a copy of the saved file in frequent intervals.
- veganswines
That's the way to do it. It's all about the vigilance.
- PurpleZoe
Been having alot of mixed-feelings about various things these days... I want coffee... I don't want coffee. I want to step out of the house. I don't... It's getting old. Where'd the consistency go? #DecisionsDecisions
Ok I admit it, I do not understand the appeal of Lady Ga Ga. I don't find her look to be that interesting, and I'm not a fan of the music I've heard. I'm glad others like her, I just don't get why.
I'd been ambivalent until I heard "Bad Romance," which for some reason I loved. Weirdly, I now like some of her other stuff better as well. No rational explanation there.
- Jennifer Dittrich
I don't get her look at all, but some of her songs are starting to grow on me.
- Penguin It's Cold Outside
Haven't heard a song but from what I've seen teh gayz like her. Just not this one.
- Derrick
I'd have to admit, some of her tunes are catchy and she does have skills. No hate from me.
- Rodfather
i hear that she's actually a good musician that paid her dues and stuff.
- Morgan Haley
I intensely dislike her music and don't get what the appeal is. That said, I'm not on a crusade or anything.
- Chieze Okoye
I don't hate her, I just don't get what the appeal is. I suppose it is just a matter of her style not fitting my taste.
- Joe Pierce
i can't stand her look and want her to wash her face and put on jeans and a t-shirt. friends love her. i don't hate her, but I do like that dumb poker face song
- Baroness Von SmashAHomie
I think I like her because she is so confounding.
- WorldofHiglet
she is hard for me to look at and listen to. but i get the appeal. she (and her production) is the epitome of modern pop music. 99% of the pop artists out there wish they had her hooks. i cant stand her work but i get the appeal. here, wash yourself off with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch... its hard for me to deal with the fact that this is the same person.
- Carlos Ayala
Carlos: yes, she is actually incredibly talented and not a studio-packaged cypher. More reason to like her :)
- WorldofHiglet
Madonna and Marilyn Manson's love child. That's how I like to think of her. Although, I should really give Marilyn Manson more respect than that.
- Josh Haley
I have somehow managed to avoid her music (why yes, I do live under a rock), but I saw a clip of her interview on Ellen and she was kind of sweet, actually. Said she felt like a freak in High School. Maybe all artists say that.
- Laura Norvig
from iPod
i have remained blissfully unaware of all this.
- Joe Silence
Josh, I'd actually much rather sit through an entire Ga Ga concert than just one Marilyn Manson song. I'm on the edge with Madonna...ever since she massacred that Bond theme.
- Joe Pierce
Nah, Marilyn's got some skills. He just takes the avant-garde approach to showmanship to ridiculous levels. He's actually a very smart and down to earth guy from what I know. As far as music, I liked his tunes from the Matrix, at least.
- Josh Haley
intelligent I may go with, down to Earth, not in the interviews and appearances I've seen. Especially on Loveline where he gave out advice that could be considered damaging. Manson is one of the very few "entertainers" in the world who if I met them I would have to try very hard not to punch in the face.
- Joe Pierce
Yeah, it's not even good electronic.
- Alex Scoble
I harbor the same confusion. I think she's probably a sweetheart whose friends propelled her to stardom.
- PurpleZoe
I'm with ya, Joe. I enjoy some pop so I think some of her songs are ok but I also don't have a thing for her in general. I'm all about artistic expression but something about her style comes off desperate to me for some reason. No hate though... she can go on and do her thang. I'm happy for her that she has so many obsessed fans. Just not exactly my cup of tea.
- Carmen - Happy 2010!
*_^ The best way I know is to drain and blend the tofu. Pour your seasonings stirred in oil over the mixture. Pour a little of the seasoned tofu on the bottom of your baking pan. Scoop seasoned bread stuffing towards the middle over the first layer, then pour the rest of the tofu for the top layer. Bake on 350 for a little over an hour. It reconstitutes lovely<3 Definitely a #greencape moment ;D

""In extreme secrecy from the public, the Obama administration is hammering out an international treaty with other several other countries and the EU ......under ACTA, the government will get sweeping new powers to search and seize material thought to be in breach of copyright. But why all the secrecy? What it will do on a larger scale is let big brother watch you; however, this time on a completely different level." "Border guards will be given unprecedented powers to search travelers without warning. They will be able to go through and confiscate any material a person has on their laptop." "America is being overtaken by a culture of surveillance." Can you imagine if Bush did anything remotely close to this?"
- Noah David Simon
from Bookmarklet
they've already been doing it under presidential emergency order for 7+yrs, what changes just cause you know & its "legal" now?
- chaz2b
that isn't what this says. this is an international treaty. you can't trust anything Obama does. he just made the organizer of the Durban conference a presidential medal of honor. this man Obama is a totalitarian tyrant that is a Anti Semite. no denying it now. he has gone out of his way to hurt Jews
- Noah David Simon
What you speak of has been in the making since the Bush administration. I remember clearly reading about this and commenting on it with fellow bloggers last year. Reality is, both parties serve the unseen string-pullers.
- PurpleZoe
Bush did not have the cooperation with the world community at every airport. this is globalist in scope. there is a difference between emergency 911 measures in one country and what Obama is doing
- Noah David Simon
It goes beyond the faces placed in office. The wheels of this effort started turning before Obama was elected. Whether red or blue, the globalist agenda seeks its ways to move forward...
- PurpleZoe
sure... and Obama didn't want to go to Durban II and gave a medal of honor to Mary Robinson. sorry doesn't cut it. he is president. too many coincidences in the pattern. you can't say Bush had global cooperation with our enemies.
- Noah David Simon
for that matter don't you think it is kind of strange that I can't go to the US embassy in Jerusalem because I am Jewish? kind of neat the way Obama isn't blamed for ethnic cleansing of Judea. no coincidences that Obama doesn't do anything while Hezballs is building up missiles north of Israel? there is a pattern here people! the man Obama is a totalitarian bigot. do something... stop cooperating with the world community. they are haters
- Noah David Simon
Just wanted to drop the link fellow bloggers and I discussed last year about this program before I log off: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bob-gei... The figureheads placed in front of us do just what they're intended. They push our buttons and distract us while the bigger agenda is pushed forward. Whether Clinton, Bush, Obama, or the next person placed in office, the global agenda is the global agenda. Take care.
- PurpleZoe
I read your damn link a year ago. I notice you didn't engage my point. cooperation with a globalist world community to search computers is very different then one government taking extra precautions during the 911 era. I'm not taking anything seriously written by Huff Po. Obama is a man who has all houses of power in his court. don't bullshit. there is a reason he is less popular then Bush was at this time in office
- Noah David Simon
It's unfortunate you're approaching me with hostility when I haven't done so with you. It seems to me you want to hear only opinions that agree with you. I'd rather talk with people who are able to have rational discussions w/out needing to zing or say things like 'Don't bullsh--'. I'll leave you to your rant, as civil commentary obviously isn't welcome.
- PurpleZoe
Obama is hostility. supporting a bigot is hostile. comparing a global initiative to one countries measures during 911 is hostile. do you deny what Obama is doing to Jewish people?
- Noah David Simon
Seriously. You're hostile. You'll see it when you're ready I suppose. Never once did I claim to be an Obama supporter. I am very clear that both sides are full of deception. I'm not a Red or Blue supporter. I'm a truth supporter. In response to your comment on my thread: FYI- I didn't vote for him. Face the facts; Obama is the most powerful man in the world, and you are powerless. I find comfort in both facts. When Obama speaks, billions listen because he affects their life. When you speak, few listen and even less are affected. You sir, are the tattered fringe on Obama's shirt. One more thing, there's a party going on, and you weren't invited!
- Wallace
So even if this got erased tomorrow, which it won't, I will not stop pushing tech your way. Just connect every other place. *Yes, Jandy, harder, but doable*.
- Louis Gray
I'll be glad when NetNewsWire enables sharing via Google Reader.
- Akiva Moskovitz
That *is* a lot of work, and I'm not so good with the techy. :(
- Derrick
We need a unified 'business card' site so we don't have to track these things individually. If you had some way to instantly handshake with other people and get automatic updates of all their activity around the net, then FriendFeed kind of becomes superfluous.
- Akiva Moskovitz
See how good I am? I thought up the idea and mere seconds later, it's been implemented, made available, and Louis Gray's already on it!
- Akiva Moskovitz
Except for those of us who only hang out on FF now and don't really use other services =/
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Tina, maybe it's time to branch out a little?
- Akiva Moskovitz
Louis - Google Profiles is a fine listing, but no way to "connect" yet. LinkedIn is a basic card (although limited to the number of links you can have in your profile). Luckily we know how to reach you.
- Stuart Miniman
@Louis Eh ? FriendFeed may have started out that way - merely as an 'aggregator' and if it had remained merely that, it would be trivial to replace with a conventional blog and a few plugins/Tumblr/Posterous/Sweetcron. However, what was great about FF was the community and the conversations that took place here. How on earth are you going to replicate that element - purely by using your tired old boring conventional WP blog ?
- Andy C
Stu, nothing is perfect (except FriendFeed). I think everybody knows how to get me at this point.
- Louis Gray
Andy, yes. FriendFeed started out as aggregation-only. But I have already seen people worried about getting their tech updates if this went away. So I wanted to unlink it all for now.
- Louis Gray
Stuart's right. I was looking around for a subscribe button.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Sorry Louis, but nothing in either Paul nor Bret's comments instills confidence. Its all one huge "if", and lets face it - they don't hold the reins anymore.
- jcunwired
Akiva, the thoughts of branching out and starting up profiles at umpteen different places just so I can keep in touch with people makes my head swim. I like FF because I am inherently lazy and this interface works with that. Sending my photos to place x and statuses to place y and watching videos on place z no longer sounds like fun, that sounds like work =(
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Tina, true. And I'm not talking about replacing FriendFeed (and neither is Louis) but making sure that what you ARE doing isn't so reliant on one single service that when that service goes away or morphs into something horrifying, you aren't left out in the cold.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Oh, I know. But what I am doing is FF: if it goes away there's no option but the cold (or doing the social media work, and really, that's not being very lazy).
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Agreeing w/ Tina - there are a number of sites that I don't create on or visit often that FF gave great visibility to and sometimes gave me reason to visit (or make me aware of in the first place). Oh well, hopefully it all gets sorted out in a couple of years...
- Stuart Miniman
Louis: Sounds like you are making contingency plans for FriendFeed going under? Scoble's already saying he thinks the FB guy's won't invest here and now this from you too. It's not looking good.
- Jim Connolly
Of all the content that aggregates here, I can recreate most of it. What I will miss most is the wonderful photographs I would never have seen before from flickr integration. Maybe Thomas Hawk has ideas on that one.
- jcunwired
@Jim FriendFeed is dying. It's just a question of when. There may be some data migration but who wants all their data in the FaceBook 'walled garden'. Not me.
- Andy C
the problem is not so much the shared per service; but the shared to groups. There's some stuff I push to FF, which I don't push to a service
- clarke thomas
Andy: That's what I am hearing from a lot of FriendFeed users. I blogged about it earlier and a commenter on the blog made a good point. He said FaceBook didn't buy FriendFeed to invest in it. If that's true (and I am startiing to think it is) then it's a matter of when FF closes - rather than if.
- Jim Connolly
@Jim Agreed. IMHO Facebook bought the brains behind FriendFeed. And that's fine by me. They developed a fine service, innovated and deserved it. FriendFeed doesn't owe me anything.
- Andy C
I guess really the only content that might NOT be as shared will be the native FF posts - particularly using the Bookmarklet. I suppose I can use "Press This" and post it to my blog from now on, just a little more effort, certainly. I tended to keep my blog for longer articles and FF for the small content. Guess we'll just have to all transition...
- Nathan Chase
A few months ago I stopped posting anything I cared about as native friendfeed postings, mostly because they were getting lost in the river of other shares and updates. I extracted all of the old postings, saved them, and created a tumblr site (and later moved it to posterous). One can backdate entries in both tumblr and posterous, to match the date it was originally posted in friendfeed.
- DGentry
crikey the passion or FFassion in this place is incredible.
- Thomas Power
Personally I don't want to follow someone on a ton of different services. Especially when I don't want to be a part of those services (looking at you Delicious).
- Mathew™ one of a kind
Any of those services could be the FriendFeed of tomorrow, Louis. I don't trust this stuff anymore.
- Shawn Farner
Not unless they have a solid plan in place to sustain their business. Waiting for someone to come and buy them isn't what I'm talking about.
- Shawn Farner
Just learned #identi.ca can cross-post like Friendfeed :D #PleasingNews You can also download archives. I don't want to keep bouncing around, and hope to find a decent freespeech allowing alternative to #Twitter that I can call home. Identi.ca uses Laconi.ca 's open-source platform. If I could code, I'd likely be building a microblogging app.
I think I will start using Identi.ca for a bit to test it out. Opensource Microblogging is the future. I have an account there but haven't used it much. Will add you now, Lady V.
- PurpleZoe
Thank you. I will also test it out a bit. And, I also have serious problems with Twitter, although I still use it mainly. Let's see.
- veganswines
I've been playing around with Laconi.ca recently. what kinda things would your app do?
- ann
I can dig it. There are alot of quality people I've connected w/ on Twitter that I appreciate messaging with. It's the only reason I still have my Friendfeed posting to Twitter. After the censorship Twitter lost me as an appreciator/supporter. I'll never feel the same about them. They can't handle the amount of people that are microblogging anyways. Microblogging, like email isn't meant for one company, especially one that censors without warning or explanation.
- PurpleZoe
Peace Ann *_^ It would peace if it could allow replies to be sent out to other networks, as well as come into a feed of selected friends from various networks. Matt, dear! You Stole My Words! ROFL :)))) Just curious - is there anything more important than money? It seems NOT ROFLMAO
- Lora Lufark
Besides being closed, Facebook has never adequately addressed serious privacy issues in its past. I strongly distrust them as a company and I'm sad to hear that they're gobbling up a service and a group of people I do trust. But if both services end up being elevated to FriendFeed's high standard then this will be a great day in hindsight.
- Doug Beeferman
Well put doug, I feel same way: I trust FF, I dont trust FB. I'm skeptical this acquisition will change FB enough for me to trust it, but we'll see.

from Android
Has anyone got an idea for a friendfeed alternative?
- Ru Viljoen
Ru, I think Hellotxt.com might be a decent alternative to Friendfeed (it can also post to Friendfeed for you so you can keep your feed if you wish). I may start using it instead. Not sure. There's also identi.ca which claims to be adding more features for cross-posting. They use the Opensource Laconi.ca platform
- PurpleZoe
thx for suggestions but looks like those are both exclusively microblogging platforms.
- Ru Viljoen
no congrats, but I agree with the rest.
- Kamilah Gill
Identi.ca is mostly a microblog (I hear cross-posting networks should be enabled soon), but Hellotxt.com is a lifestream (you can cross-post and etc across networks) I believe. Unfortunately it's slow at times. I'll miss Friendfeed if it gets sucked into the Facebook network, instead of remaining a stand-alone app. Not at all happy about the acquisition.
- PurpleZoe
3 other possibilities: lifestream.fm, Socialthing.com and possibly Streamy.com
- PurpleZoe
Now might be a good time for socialthing to exit private beta and enter public
- Ru Viljoen
It probably is. Everything has it's reason. Learned my lesson this time around. I'll def be visiting the next neighborhood at different times to see what the vibe is like beyond the apartment showing. *Extending there-there pat* Been there. I recommend Yerba Mate. Thought it was marketing hype when the box claimed it's a natural coffee replacement. It's not. Can't drink it at night or I break night everytime.
- PurpleZoe
I am joining you trying to learn this hard lesson. Rumi says you only find treasures in ruins. I guess maybe upsetting situations are "ruins" and the treasure is the learning process. I hope...
- veganswines
It's def a hard lesson, but it seems like life is crafted around that wisdom more than any other. After awhile anger is just too futile to engage with. Love the wisdom of Rumi you extended. I find gems in ruins on the regular. They're the shiniest ones, actually. *_^
- PurpleZoe
Things are still off. My Friendfeed texts won't post to Twitter and though I can log-in, I can't post from my ip. I have to use another pc which is more effort than I'm willing to put in for the Bluebird. Could be #twensorship again, or they may be all sorts of discombobulated. Personally, I'm tired of their glitches and arbitrary issues. Definitely preferring FF at the moment.
- PurpleZoe
In this day and age it would serve 'Top' chefs well to know how to work w/non-mainstream ingredients. There are alot of Vegans, and many many Celiacs (alot of children develop this issue early on) who can't consume wheat. Almond Flour, Bean flour, Rice flour, Cassava four and etc can easily sub for wheat. Arrowroot or Cornstarch are great binders in place of eggs for baking (oil or...

no. they can't. substitutions behave differently than the original ingredients in terms of taste, texture, and chemical makeup. gluten-free cake, for example, tends to be drier and more crumbly. vegetable shortening is a good substitute for butter. but oil? not so much. you can't just make a regular recipe into a vegan one without tweaking the balance of the rest of the ingredients.
- tiffany
I agree some tweaking can be necessary, but I and quite a few others I know veganize foods on a regular basis. It can be done, and in these times with the various food sensitivities and dietary choices that have emerged en masse, it should be a point of study for those interested in the culinary arts (especially where gluten and dairy intolerance are concerned).
- PurpleZoe
I was amused by Gael Greene's surprise. Um, Gael, vegans eat food - fruits, vegetables, grains, you know, the weird stuff. Charlie Trotter manages to turn out high end, massively delicious vegetarian and vegan food nightly by respecting the ingredients for what they are, not trying to turn it into faux carnivore. It can be done.
- Maria Niles
maybe it is the politburo. can't trust the government. you do know that twitter is Obama land? they put that punk in office. you seem like a nice looking girl. why don't you wake up and realize that the color of a person's skin is no reason to be loyal to them.

@Sydney I rather like FriendFeed, there's just more people on Twitter for me, it drives WAY more traffic, and it's RARE good discussions evolve here from anyone other than POWER users.
- Ryan Stephens
love how we all pop over here when twitter is down ;)
- Kate
Ryan: how do you have discussions on twitter? I'll agree that they are rare.
- Johnny
Johnny: I have more discussions b/c my friends engage more there...of course harder to follow and usually include only 2-4 people. I LOVE the threaded comments here, provided a group of intelligent people were chatting, but how often does that happen? Sometimes with people like Scoble, Owyang and Louis Gray? (that's been my experience anyway.)
- Ryan Stephens
Ryan: I don't think it's fair to assume that there is a lack of intelligent conversation on friendfeed, especially with your 12 comments and 2 likes which tells me you've never really tried it out.

Johnny: That's completely fair. I've lurked a lot & have read a lot of Louis Gray's, Scoble's and Valeria Maltoni's insights with respect to FriendFeed. You're right, maybe I'm not following the right people. And I didn't necessarily mean to imply there was a lack of intelligent conversation. It's just rare that I've seen these discussions develop from anyone's comments aside from a few power users. I'd be grateful for a list of users.
- Ryan Stephens
I heard from someone that Twitter doesn't even know why it's down.
