oh no. I've had that happen too, and I fully agree, it's really better to be just too careful.One can never mend the damage once the data is lost: hours of passion and concentration, where do all the bits and bites go when they are lost :l :(

It was one of those nights where my pen was on fire too. Some of my best editing style-wise, ever. Painful moment:( I don't know where lost bytes go. Searched several folders hoping I absentmindedly saved it to the wrong location. Found nothing. I saved throughout the course of the editing, so it should have saved something, at some point. I guess there was just a huge glitch throughout the session.

That's interesting, that you lost it although you saved it. I had a similar scenario. What I do now, right when I write and save something (every breathing break I save too) I also make a copy of the saved file in frequent intervals.

Ok I admit it, I do not understand the appeal of Lady Ga Ga. I don't find her look to be that interesting, and I'm not a fan of the music I've heard. I'm glad others like her, I just don't get why.

I'm with ya, Joe. I enjoy some pop so I think some of her songs are ok but I also don't have a thing for her in general. I'm all about artistic expression but something about her style comes off desperate to me for some reason. No hate though... she can go on and do her thang. I'm happy for her that she has so many obsessed fans. Just not exactly my cup of tea.

*_^ The best way I know is to drain and blend the tofu. Pour your seasonings stirred in oil over the mixture. Pour a little of the seasoned tofu on the bottom of your baking pan. Scoop seasoned bread stuffing towards the middle over the first layer, then pour the rest of the tofu for the top layer. Bake on 350 for a little over an hour. It reconstitutes lovely<3 Definitely a #greencape moment ;D

FriendFeed may have started out that way - merely as an 'aggregator' and if it had remained merely that, it would be trivial to replace with a conventional blog and a few plugins/Tumblr/Posterous/Sweetcron. However, what was great about FF was the community and the conversations that took place here. Akiva, the thoughts of branching out and starting up profiles at umpteen different places just so I can keep in touch with people makes my head swim. I like FF because I am inherently lazy and this interface works with that. Sending my photos to place x and statuses to place y and watching videos on place z no longer sounds like fun, that sounds like work =(

Andy: That's what I am hearing from a lot of FriendFeed users. I blogged about it earlier and a commenter on the blog made a good point. He said FaceBook didn't buy FriendFeed to invest in it. If that's true (and I am startiing to think it is) then it's a matter of when FF closes - rather than if.

A few months ago I stopped posting anything I cared about as native friendfeed postings, mostly because they were getting lost in the river of other shares and updates. I extracted all of the old postings, saved them, and created a tumblr site (and later moved it to posterous). One can backdate entries in both tumblr and posterous, to match the date it was originally posted in friendfeed.

Just learned #identi.ca can cross-post like Friendfeed :D #PleasingNews You can also download archives. I don't want to keep bouncing around, and hope to find a decent freespeech allowing alternative to #Twitter that I can call home. Identi.ca uses Laconi.ca 's open-source platform. If I could code, I'd likely be building a microblogging app.

I can dig it. There are alot of quality people I've connected w/ on Twitter that I appreciate messaging with. It's the only reason I still have my Friendfeed posting to Twitter. After the censorship Twitter lost me as an appreciator/supporter. I'll never feel the same about them. They can't handle the amount of people that are microblogging anyways. Microblogging, like email isn't meant for one company, especially one that censors without warning or explanation.

Besides being closed, Facebook has never adequately addressed serious privacy issues in its past. I strongly distrust them as a company and I'm sad to hear that they're gobbling up a service and a group of people I do trust. But if both services end up being elevated to FriendFeed's high standard then this will be a great day in hindsight.

Has anyone got an idea for a friendfeed alternative?

Ru, I think Hellotxt.com might be a decent alternative to Friendfeed (it can also post to Friendfeed for you so you can keep your feed if you wish). I may start using it instead. Not sure. There's also identi.ca which claims to be adding more features for cross-posting. They use the Opensource Laconi.ca platform

Identi.ca is mostly a microblog (I hear cross-posting networks should be enabled soon), but Hellotxt.com is a lifestream (you can cross-post and etc across networks) I believe. Unfortunately it's slow at times. I'll miss Friendfeed if it gets sucked into the Facebook network, instead of remaining a stand-alone app. Not at all happy about the acquisition.

It probably is. Everything has it's reason. Learned my lesson this time around. I'll def be visiting the next neighborhood at different times to see what the vibe is like beyond the apartment showing. *Extending there-there pat* Been there. I recommend Yerba Mate. Thought it was marketing hype when the box claimed it's a natural coffee replacement. It's not. Can't drink it at night or I break night everytime.

I am joining you trying to learn this hard lesson. Rumi says you only find treasures in ruins. I guess maybe upsetting situations are "ruins" and the treasure is the learning process. I hope...

It's def a hard lesson, but it seems like life is crafted around that wisdom more than any other. After awhile anger is just too futile to engage with. Love the wisdom of Rumi you extended. I find gems in ruins on the regular. They're the shiniest ones, actually. *_^

Things are still off. My Friendfeed texts won't post to Twitter and though I can log-in, I can't post from my ip. I have to use another pc which is more effort than I'm willing to put in for the Bluebird. Could be #twensorship again, or they may be all sorts of discombobulated. Personally, I'm tired of their glitches and arbitrary issues. Definitely preferring FF at the moment.

In this day and age it would serve 'Top' chefs well to know how to work w/non-mainstream ingredients. There are alot of Vegans, and many many Celiacs (alot of children develop this issue early on) who can't consume wheat. no. they can't. substitutions behave differently than the original ingredients in terms of taste, texture, and chemical makeup. gluten-free cake, for example, tends to be drier and more crumbly. vegetable shortening is a good substitute for butter. but oil? not so much. you can't just make a regular recipe into a vegan one without tweaking the balance of the rest of the ingredients.

I agree some tweaking can be necessary, but I and quite a few others I know veganize foods on a regular basis. It can be done, and in these times with the various food sensitivities and dietary choices that have emerged en masse, it should be a point of study for those interested in the culinary arts (especially where gluten and dairy intolerance are concerned).

I was amused by Gael Greene's surprise. Um, Gael, vegans eat food - fruits, vegetables, grains, you know, the weird stuff. Charlie Trotter manages to turn out high end, massively delicious vegetarian and vegan food nightly by respecting the ingredients for what they are, not trying to turn it into faux carnivore. It can be done.

Johnny: I have more discussions b/c my friends engage more there...of course harder to follow and usually include only 2-4 people. I LOVE the threaded comments here, provided a group of intelligent people were chatting, but how often does that happen? Sometimes with people like Scoble, Owyang and Louis Gray? (that's been my experience anyway.)
