"Samba de Amigo is the most fun I ever had with the Dreamcast... and I had a fuck-ton of fun with the Dreamcast. I don't know how well it would hold up, but the maracas controller is wacky enough to at least give you a laugh."

"I have no problem holding grudges. The #1 reason I didn’t consider a PS3 as my first console purchase was the rootkit scandal from a few years ago. For those of you who don’t know, Sony music CDs were installing software on PCs that prevented them from playing music CDs. That made me decide I didn’t want to give them money anymore. I’m having similar problems with Modern Warfare 2. For starters, I think Activision is doing everything they can to exploit the gaming community for every dollar it can make them without regard to the damage it is doing. Second, I have heard Infinity Ward is made up of some pretty conservative dudes (which definitely came across in all the jingoism of the first Modern Warfare). Third, the fag-bashing viral ad is a major turn-off. I’ll just stick with Borderlands, thanks."

"American atheists are angry because Christians have gutted the foundations of our government and replaced it with institutions that support, respect, and prefer Christianity. It makes me angry just typing it in this here comment box."

"There are two reasons company-sponsored blogs and podcasts will never replace gaming media. 1. They will never cover competitor’s products. People are lazy and don’t want to go to EA’s blog to read about Dante’s Inferno then go to Sony’s blog to read about Uncharted. They want to pick a one-stop shop that cover everything, become comfortable with its staff and the organization of content, and find everything there. 2. Internet users especially are savvy as consumers go. They can perceive when they are being sold to–even if the distinction is subtle. They will realize that Activision’s blog never says anything negative about DJ Hero. They will also assume DJ Hero is probably not perfect. At that point, anything about DJ Hero on Activision’s blog will be filtered by their brain as an advertisement. There’s certainly a place for this type of media as they have unlimited access to information on games still in development. No press, no matter how privileged, will have the level of access..."

"Getting excited about the latest PC hardware is for rich people. Now, I only get excited when the component that is three or four generations newer than the one I have drops below $100 or even $50!"

"I’m sure Sonic could be modernized in some way, but it is not the way Sega has been trying for the past several years. I too loved Sonic Adventure, but Sega has really been slipping lately… not just with Sonic but in general. If this is what it takes for them to pull it back together, so be it. My worry is this. Once upon a time (Sonic Adventure), there was a team at Sega who could do 3D Sonic right. That team is either dead or they are mere shadows of their former selves. Will they even be able to pull together a good 2D Sonic game? I’m hoping for yes, but I’m a bit pessimistic."

"Back when Doom 3 and Half-life 2 were released, I was a huge id fanboy. I put about $3,000 into building a new computer for Doom 3. I bought the game on the day of its release, and I really enjoyed the experience. Months later, I decided to give Half-life 2 a go. It blew Doom 3 out of the water for me. Now I have switched camps. I have played through everything except Episode 2. I’m at the section where you have to driver around and fire the exploding things into the striders. I didn’t really have enough health to complete it or the patience to load from an earlier save. I’m anxious to start from the very beginning and try it again."

"I don’t even notice violence in games so much because I have been around them so long and the transition to graphically violent games was so gentle. Early violent games were so over-the-top that a typical person could never have found them disgusting… at least not for their realism. Games then slowly transitioned into the (sometimes) more realistic violence we see today. Random observation: I have noticed many games which depict violence against humanoid enemies mask their faces. It seems developers believe consumers would find violence against a person with a face too disturbing. Take a look at Half-life 2, Killzone 2, and Shadow Complex to see what I’m talking about. Just to be clear, I am not making a judgment either way about this phenomenon; I’m merely pointing out its existence."

"The trend Sony has set for this generation of their consoles is to drop features. I bought an 80GB PS3 just after they dropped backward compatibility. I now have a 60GB which I bought for the backward compatibility. What I didn’t know is that the 60GB also has two additional USB ports and memory card slots! The PSPGo is scaled back in that it can no longer support UMDs. The only additional feature is Bluetooth! It seems as though, with the PS3, Sony has determined that people will make a purchasing decision on price alone without regard to features which is mostly true. I’m not sure what they’re thinking with the PSPGo."

i took my new 13" mbp with me on a 45-hour train ride hoping to get work done, and unless i had the brightness all the way up (which of course killed battery life), the glare was awful. i still very much prefer the screen on my 15" tibook. usually it's not a big deal, but when out and about, the glare is definitely a problem.

I have gotten used to the glossy screen on my MBP at this point, but I would still much prefer the matte screen. I don't understand why nearly all notebooks have the glossy screen now. I don't know anyone who prefers it.
- Devon Campbell
agreed. it usually doesn't bug me, but it was frustrating more often than not on my 3 weeks abroad. i can see why apple is moving toward sexy glossy glass, humans are definitely animals attracted to "shiny" -- but i very much prefer the matte displays.

i would love this for wamu (er, chase) or usbank. it's a royal pain finding branches to make deposits, and they often just sit in my wallet for months.

Now, I want to be able to deposit cash by taking a picture. Someone make this happen. ;-)
