I went to a Pearl Jam concert 3 weeks ago and the 3G network crashed cause of all the concentrated data usage (lots of iPhone). They need to distribute across the load

Quality of 3G bandwidth/service is truly a regional issue. It is fantastic here in Columbus, OH. It is frustrating how relatively little 3G coverage there is on major highways, though. It seems concentrated to urban areas, obviously.

The biggest problem with that model (Google selling direct) is what happens if it breaks. The Genius Bar is a big thing

It's not hard to see already how Android and iPhone will become the analog to Windows vs. Mac OS X. Android is all about choice, but will be significantly splintered due to overwhelming hardware choice and variations in OS version and customization.
