Co-founder and lead tech for UpNext -- iPhone and Java developer with interest in 3D applications and local search! Based in NYC.
recognized today's bing photo Angel's Landing, my favorite hike but I probably wouldn't do it again, too easy to fall off the mountain
Downloading movies to the iPhone needs a WiFi connection: whole airport scenario in the keynote == fail
iPhone 3GS has OpenGL ES 2.0 -- meaning graphical complexity can go through the roof now with pixel shaders
Everyone walking around with a video camera is going to be a little annoying right?
Bing sounds like a cheap Vegas casino but it's my new homepage. Google feels 2008 and needs a logo refresh; doodles won't save them.
Most interesting thing about google wave so far are robots: custom robots can parse your conversation and add on-the-fly context
Robots could act like embedded search or decision engines; for example, you could create a Wolfram Alpha robot that sends any text that starts with 'wolfram' over to wolfram alpha and returns the result, in the midst of your chat with someone else - Raj Advani
I'm looking forward to devs rushing to integrate their systems with the gWave before anybody knows what it's good for (super-wave-poke!)
Not trying to be a hater, but odd that so many mentioned wave's "see people typing" deal -- please no more real-time, everyone take a nap
I've been investigating the formulae behind the top lists on the Apple AppStore. Here are my best guesses for how they're determined
1. The app-store wide top lists seem to be entirely momentum based, on a 5-7 day window. There is no absolute component; that is, it doesn't matter how many you've sold, only how many you're currently selling. - Raj Advani
2. The per-category top lists seem to be a linear combination of your absolute number sold and your momentum; probably something like 10% of your score comes from how many you've sold total, and 90% comes from your momentum. I think this because I notice these lists are more stable than the app-store wide lists. - Raj Advani
3. There's another list, accessible only in iTunes (not on the phone) called Most Popular. Few users probably see this list, but it's per category, and appears to be entirely based on the absolute amount sold. This is useful for developers to compare their absolute amounts sold to others. - Raj Advani
All the above is speculation! I may be completely wrong, but they're my best guesses. - Raj Advani
Just want to shoot out thanks to Robert Scoble for meeting with me and letting me show him UpNext. Since his mention, we've had a torrent of downloads and shot up to #4 in the Travel section of the App Store. It's really great to have a blogger with a big microphone be so accessible to everyone -- helps the little guys get noticed!
Nice to hear that a friendfeed post can move the needle for a new company. Thanks and awesome technology! - Robert Scoble
@clinks - hmmm!?! better put in a call to @scobleizer! - Nick Wade
Congrats Raj! Also, I wonder if we are still in the I knew (or at least exchanged posts with once) phase of Robert Scoble's eminent rise to internet stardom... or if we're already there. Robert: It's really neat to hear how many folks feel you've helped them. - SAM
Scott: I've known some people here since before I did a blog. I forget when we first met, but it has been a wild ride since then, huh? - Robert Scoble
True. Pretty sure if you keep treating people as well as you do, and remain creative... you've got some amazingly neat things coming your way in the future too. - SAM
Scott: I'm trying to push the web forward along with a lot of other smart people. All of us will win if that happens. - Robert Scoble
Robert, I've figured it out. You're an Enabler. In the most positive aspect, of course. - CAJ, somewhere else
One of the few I have seen with 5 stars in the app store. Congrats Raj! So whats next for you ? More cities ? - Kiran Patchigolla
Kiran: Yes! We're hoping to expand a lot in the coming year now that the platform is fully built. Also have to polish a few things here and there. - Raj Advani
Raj: Great! Are you guys planning to come up with a single app with purchases for individual cities with the new 3.0 in-app payment system? - Kiran Patchigolla
Definitely, we'd like to consolidate all of the cities into a single app, makes it easier for everyone I think - Raj Advani
In case anybody missed it, the FriendFeed post was http://friendfeed.com/scoblei... - Bruce Lewis
GMaps Data API http://code.google.com/apis... appears to be useful for google to get local data indexed faster, but will mashup devs care?
www.experts-exchange.com is the most annoying paywall on the internet, it's always in the top 5 google results for any tech query
Yeah I see that too. How'd they do that? - vadvani@gmail.com
Subway maps drawn at identical scale: http://www.fakeisthenewreal.org/subway... budapest has some work to do
