What is it, some type of children's book? Missed it too!

LOL! I have read about the whole GTD strategy, but never from the actual source. I felt like I should say so since some regard me as a productvitity expert :)

I have it checked out of my library and sitting on a shelf gathering dust.

Hrm....I completely forgot I could check out books from the library. Pretty ridiculous given the amount of actual librarians here on FF...LOL

Niether have I. Who Moved My Cheese is on the bookshelf to be red, and 7 Habits has been re-read more times than i care to count.

I can't get anything done [GTD] because I'm too busy organizing my list of things that need to be done.

GTD is one of those things you have to figure out how to make work for you. The actual way he implements it in the book is just one way you COULD if it made sense to you, but the concept of WHAT you're doing and reasons WHY you want to do it are the important part. I've done it with several different tools and methods depending on what was available and I was gung-ho about at the time. It works when I use it... Helps relieve a lot of stress just to get everything nagging at me out of my head so I can focus.

The gist is that as soon as any piece of information comes into your life that might be useful to you or that you need to take action on you should archive it somehow in a system that you can easily review. Make sure you mark the things that need to be taken action on and do them as soon as you are in a position to take care of them so that they're not on your plate anymore. Try to mark tasks by context (home, work, phone, email, etc) so that you can grab the list of those tasks when you're in the right place to take care of them and you'll be more efficient. If you capture all the bits of information you need and organize the actionable items so that you can do them when and where it's convenient then you'll get things done quicker and more efficiently and ultimately have less stress and more free time. That's GTD in a nutshell.
