@Brandon, at least you get ads. Googling "black" doesn't return any ads at all. However we are told a related search is "black jokes." Well, at least there's no ads for fried chicken 'n malt liquor. Progress! (raises Black Power fist)
- Karim
aww, that is cute. I like that. they need to do that for some other searches @Brandon, agreed about the ad content, but I love that rainbow, that's nice.
- Kamilah Gill
I searched for "straight" and... nothing. :-)
- Louis Gray
@Brandon W: didn't notice that. yeah, not so great. not to plug, but you're not supposed to see that on Yahoo! search. because we don't consider "gay" by itself an adult term. and...Karim strikes again.
- edythe
As the only Gay in the Village (whoever gets that reference gets a virtual kiss), I find the rainbow flag pretty obnoxious. In fact, I burned one once in some frakin performance piece. But that's just me. BTW how did I miss this thread?
- Rick Powell
They do it for other stuff too, i saw a link off Google saying why they use the colours and other stuff.
- Nicholas James
how about IM for brainstorming? I think it works. Also, IM=instant notifications. And what about SMS? some people broke up or got fired via SMS ;-)

I think this is also why it's not an either/or proposition between Twitter and FriendFeed. Twitter imo will have broader appeal as a simple way to send one to many messages. FF appeals (perhaps with deeper engagement levels) to those who want to easily carry the conversation/discussion further. Both are great for personal branding -- hence their adoption by the technorati.

do you think that if all the major isp's put caps on their services...new services will come out that progress the internet? in other words..is it possible that the internet will grow because more people will be motivated to find a way around the caps?
- raincloudcat
The question is how. I live in a area that is serviced by a Monopoly others will have more options. But when you have a single company as the sole source broadband provider in the area their bw cap consideration is concerning
- Todd Cochrane
I don't usually want to watch 30 *seconds* of YouTube content! I don't hate YouTube, but if I'm on the computer I'm busy. I love listening to stuff while I work, but I can't do other stuff while I'm watching video.
- Richard Klein
Tad: yes, but there's someone out there who DOES and that person will be more likely to click on ads, take action, etc, than you will be.
- Robert Scoble
I agree that there is value in the long form, Robert, but engagement isn't determined in total by a show's length. There are other much more important factors
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
Why can't all the video in the world (including movies and TV shows) eventually flow through Youtube?
- Sean McBride
Interesting post and agreed on Gary Vee for brilliant marketer. That is not easy to fake because he really loves what he is doing and that comes through. rare that someone that passionate about what they're doing.
- Mark Forman
Robert, have you tried the beta version Google Reader for the iPhone? (http://is.gd/fCp). I've been using that on my Tilt and even there it's much better than the old mobile version. It does let you share with 1 click.
- J. McConnell
Thanks for writing this...I really like hearing about how you're using friendfeed because i'm just getting a hold of it
- raincloudcat
that's awesome. I'm really slacking compared to you, I've only got 761 comments and 649 likes!
- Thomas Hawk
Thomas -- think of it not as slacking but as being more selective and discerning
- Brian Sullivan
1201 this week, 5,812 all time. thank you for defending the like in your post. :) and i don't like blindly. though I know that is not unanimously accepted. c'est la vie, i guess. but i like boosting things that I think should get some responses and might not otherwise be seen. and often it turns into a good thing.
- edythe
I wish you could search through just likes.
- Micah Baldwin
I can see it now. The Guiness Record for likes
- Charlie Anzman
my Like Stats: 290 this week, 2670 all time. Robert, I am hot on your trail! woo hoo! :-) (Edythe is on CRACK!) :*)
- Susan Beebe
Well, I did 85 likes since I wrote this yesterday. So, hurry up! :-)
- Robert Scoble
Robert: hehehehe OK! click , click, click!!!
- Susan Beebe
A very exciting time. Will there be Lifehacking from the honeymoon?
- Louis Gray
...very cool! Congratulations from someone in the Southeastern US who is actually not close-minded! ;-) Just don't let Lifehacker slack while you're enjoying the honeymoon.
- JA Castillo
I'm proud to say that all of my Facebook friends are also friends of Obama.
- jcunwired
@Jody - Why is that a source of pride for you?
- William Beem
Interesting how social networking benchmarks are takign the place of experience and policies.
- Soulhuntre
from twhirl
Most of my friends on FB are younger than I am, and I've known them most of their lives. Its good to see them care, great that they understand the status quo is not working, and wonderful to see them getting involved in the political process.
- jcunwired
I'm not sure that selecting a candidate on FB is the same as getting involved in the political process, but I understand your point.
- William Beem
Soulhuntre: You're absolutely right - I was so going to vote for Obama based solely on his number of Facebook followers until you showed me the error of my ways. Thank you so much!
- David Worrell
In college, I had a friend who had a PC laptop and had to use one of these (probably around 3 years ago now). I used to snicker that his computer was so poorly designed that he needed an external cooling system. Now Macs need them? Ugh.
- Mark Trapp
Targus. Chillmat. Two fans. No cord storage. Small enough that it fits in my laptop bag. Got one for my dad for Father's Day I love it so much.
- Cyndy
Dude, how did you score Spore? I work for Xbox and can't seem to get a copy. No more favors for EA!
