There are a lot of dancers -- including myself! -- who can profit from learning how to fail, and get back up again. Note esp. the Tribe.net reference!

Yes, ANOTHER article on making Facebook more private. Given how powerful it's becoming, and how even criminals are being caught through their use of it, it's useful to know how to block stuff. And NO, I still don't accept 90%+ of Apps you guys send me. Thanks for not trying. :)

The Nano w/o HD video is painful, but it's not a video device; the camera's a "gimme" to add fuctionaity and make it more a "lifestyle" all-in-one device, which is compelling to a lot of non-techies, I'd bet.

Or the flip cam stays a winner, perhaps? Apple is making inroads, but is it enough?
- Alex von Halem
Complete fail by Apple for no cam on the ipod touch!

Just joined friendfeed - so I'll jump in - it may take me a while to respond at times, but I am usually up for a belly dance chat when not too busy actually dancing!
- TAV Creations/Halyma
I created a Group here for us bellydancers -- http://friendfeed.com/raqs -- it's mostly posts for the feeds off Bhuz + Twitter or Google News bits that match "bellydance" or related terms.

On 8/26 it will be the 4th Anniversary of Katrina. I hope this Admin. marks the occasion and as Anderson Cooper stated, "Never let people forget the lessons of Katrina". For me it's personal as I was a tourist trapped in the Superdome during the hurricane. (the train, bus station and airport shut down 2 days prior to the storm). My memoir:
What it says in the subject line. Be aware -- I don't think it's a major security issue (hell, I RARELY delete emails at all!), but it's something to keep in mind until a fix is out.

To my regular readers: I again ask your forbearance as I, and others you might read, try to help in our small yet measurable ways with the Iranian situation. As President Obama said yesterday, issues like free speech "are universal values and need to be respected." And although I'm biased as the the outcome, it is FAR more critical, to me, that democratic values -- that the Iranian regime says they wish to keep -- are supported, no matter the outcome. As my critics have said, no one knows what is happening, or what will happen. But I do know that, when possible and wise, it is incumbent upon me -- a person in a country with so much to offer, and so many gifts of freedom and (relative) wealth -- to aid others seeking Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. And for once, thanks to (of all things!) Twitter, we CAN make some small difference. Thanks, again, for your patience, and even your analysis. ItT's all being read, even if I'm not always responding.

I look forward to deep, rich, and well-conceived explanations of how Steele makes perfect sense in his commentary on Obama, and that these comments don't actually reflect on Steele's rise to GOP leadership.

With all due respect to Amal, I see too many "cute" Arab pop stars -- not to mention dancers! -- to think them quite so enlightened. "Sex sells" seems to be far more in play than anything...

"The most important thing is to do your homework," said Michele Perry, spokeswoman for TripAdvisor.com, which just launched a new flight search aggregator. To do your research right, you'll need to compare fares from many different sources. "Too many people get cozy with their favorite search engine, blithely thinking that it's the best," said Hobica. If there were one best Web site, he added, "the rest would be out of business by now."
- Woodrow Jarvis Hill
This could be interesting for dance, esp. high-intensity weeklongs. If there was a less-intrusive version, it might even be near-perfect of dancers at Pennnsic!

Each of us is unique and no process will work for everyone, but all of us have plenty of things that we can do to improve our workflow. In this article I’ll cover some of the lessons that I have learned through my own experience. For me, productivity is a constant goal, and always interested in finding new ways to get more out of my time. I’m far from perfect in these areas, but making consistent improvements. Hopefully some of these things will help you in your own work.

This tool was concieved to decrease the monkey work when starting an ie6 css fix file. It applies a series of basic fixes that are known to conquer many problems and cause as little harm as possible. It is meant to get a good head-start by fixing roughly 40-60% of all your ie6 issues with just one click, outputting a rough css that can be placed in a separate section and can be used as a solid start to finish up the rest of your ie6 debugging work.

There are always people around to criticize and flame a new cool thing. I wonder how they experience life, when all they do is creating negative vibes.
- Sanne Buurma
Surely the fact that they are arguing with you on twitter (something they claim is lame) say's more about them then it does about twitter
- Jamie Vidamour
I love Twitter as it was a year and a half ago. It seems as though it's on the verge of "MySpace-ing" itself. With all of its new found fame, it seems as though it would be easier to find a revenue stream, now. I feel as though it is only a matter of time before it is the new MySpace, and the original couple million users of Twitter run off to the new "FaceBook". Maybe this is where Plurk comes in? lol.
- Raymond Mendoza
@Raymond You know, lots of people still use MySpace. And I can recall a time when AltaVista was the Hot Search Engine. Trying to play the "we must remain not just relevant, but HOT" bit is a mug's game, as is chasing "revenue streams" over keeping costs low (note the articles on how Google works to keep the costs of search dirt-cheap).
- Woodrow Jarvis Hill
Plain and simple, twitter isn't for everyone. And that could be their weakness. I know a lot of people on myspace and facebook who don't "get" twitter (and never will).
- Matt Soreco
i came here via facebook & twitter in that order, hung around for a while but eventually ended up doing most everything on twitter - i had thought to use tw & ff together, starting discussions on tw & continuing here - perhaps google buying tw might mean the ff discuss function ends up on tw.
- ernie yacub
There are many days where I feel any kind of reasoned and rational discourse falls prey to demagoguery of the kind Bernstein writes about, here.

Rafe: You can calculate the price using the S3 online tool at http://bit.ly/wkUQw -- you pay directly for the S3 storage. The problem for me is more slow upload speeds than costs.
- Woodrow Jarvis Hill
Likewise! I absolutely LOVE Jungle Disk and I've been using it since sometime last year. I have a total of ~50GB backed up and only update/backup 1-3GBs a month (if even that) and the money I'm paying each month is negligible.
- Philip
Don't try backing up your photos, music and home videos though. If you really lead a digital lifestyle, you'll have thousands of photos, lots of music and lots of GB of home videos (hey, my Kodak Zi6 fills up 1-16GB every time I plug it to sync with the computer). Hard drive space is dirt cheap (1 TB for less than $100) but try backing up to Jungle Disk, you'll go broke. If it's worth having, it's worth backing up no? Until I can backup a TB or more online and afford it, this is of no use...
- Odi Kosmatos
For the record, in 2008, I had successfully backed up my most important 650GB to Keepvault.com (it took months to upload) and the price was $100 per year. But at the end of the year they said "Sorry, our unlimited data backup plan is being eliminated.". It was too good to be true...
- Odi Kosmatos
Yikes, using the calculator tool above, it seems storing 1 TB is $3000 a month. I could buy one 1 TB drive a day for that price and bring one off-site to my workplace every morning, indefinitely, for the same price.
- Odi Kosmatos
It's not about storing terabytes of data, it's about storing essentials away somewhere else. Think safety deposit box and not self-storage sheds.
- Erik Garcia
Me personally, I don't have that much digital media to store, but I do have mountains of source code I'd rather not lose which I back up with a couple free online storage solutions on a regular basis. If you're a digital photographer or a podcaster or movie maker, part of _your_ job/business involves being responsible for maintaining archives of whatever 'knowledge work' you generate.
- Erik Garcia
I have about 70GB up on Amazon too, but I'm about to reduce it down to my 4 + 5 star images only.
- Ryan
@ Odi: 30-35GB of the 50GB that are backed up on Jungle Disk are pictures & music. My music collection doesn't grow that quickly and neither does my photo gallery so what you're saying isn't the case for everyone. The most I've paid with a ton of uploading is maybe $8 but usually my monthly bill is $1-2/month.

I'm liking Mint a lot right now, but might switch to Quicken/quicken Online, due to starting a business .

So far I'm enjoying Mint. Too bad some folks are having problems integrating it with Mission Federal Credit Union
- Glenn Batuyong
I've been using yodlee for a long time but find myself using mint more recently
- Alan Cheslow
Mint also only works in the US. I'd love to try it if it was available elsewhere.
- Kenton
Been using Mint for over year. It continues to get better. Started as basic banking info and trends but now includes investments as well. They just added home values as well, which is nice and makes the net worth figure useful. Great for trending and budgeting.
- Kevin C. Tofel
Using Mint more than Yodlee now because of the iPhone app. Previously it was Yodlee more often.
- Robert DeBord
Mint is best, especially due to the iPhone app. If only it could do my taxes.
