"Inktomi, your crawler is repeatedly hitting our servers getting the same WAP files over and over. Please stop pounding us, it's hurting the service we provide to our customers. Thanks. webmaster@userland.com." Awww, can't see how I've been Scobleized :-(
- Mark Trapp
Virtually no results for likely-to-be-spammed terms like levitra or cialis, because those drugs hadn't even been introduced yet. Ah, the good old days. :)
- Matt Cutts
Mark: yeah, the first 1.5 years of my blog disappeared. I've been trying to get them back from Userland, but never get an answer back from them. Oh well.
- Robert Scoble
My first blog, by the way, was in December 15, 2000, right before this snapshot was made.
- Robert Scoble
Louis, you kept that Apple stock from when it was $8/share, right?
- Tinfoil 2.0
Logical: I bought some at $12 (pre-split, so it would be about $6 in today's share price). I thought I was so brilliant when I sold at $22. I learned a good lesson there. Dollar cost average out of stocks that look like winners. Or, take half your winnings and diversify and leave the rest in. If I had done that I'd have had a huge profit.
- Robert Scoble
By the way, I don't play tech stocks anymore, other than Microsoft (I own a few thousand dollars worth of that cause I'm too lazy to sell it).
- Robert Scoble
I don't play individual stocks much either, but do still have some AAPL I bought at a split-adjusted $20... kick myself often for not getting more.
- Tinfoil 2.0
I wonder, from commenters above - how many of you are eat meat, even irregular but eat and enjoy it?
- A. T.
Umm these guys are doing it for food and it will feed lots and lots of people. These are people killing animals to survive, not to profit. For the western world to frown on this is entirely hypercritical, as unpleasant as it may seem. My comments likely to spark a discussion ;)
- Toby Graham
Toby; what is your idea about whale hunting in Japan. they are also poor? we can find better and more sustainable source of protein. if we kill wild animal for human consumption they will vanish form this world soon .!!!
- Mahdi Ebrahimi
I think these people literally survive on just whales which makes it very different from Japan, who I believe, hunt whales for Scientific purposes! Don't get me started on that! (saw a TV programme about these people and they're pretty boned because of over hunting)
- Toby Graham
Toby, in my mind, I understand people gotta do what they gotta do to stay alive. In my heart, the practice and pics above bother me. I think I'm conflicted, but if you want to say hypercritical, that's cool. @slipol, I don't eat meat.
- Anna Haro
If you don't eat meat you can be conflicted rather than hypercritical :)
- Toby Graham
There are still tribes that basically survive on 1-2 whales per year for the whole community.
- Kevin L
I eat meat, but not whale meat... cows aren't endangered, as far as I know.
- Jemm
I have no problems with eating meat, I just draw the line at meat from animals that reach a certain level of consciousness. Everything else is fair game - and to any veggies that try to "make me see the error of my ways", may I point out the ultimate irony of life is that for it to continue, another must die. And that we are discovering plants to be FAR more alive than we ever gave them credit, just do some research into plant neurobiology and social studies and you'll realise they're on a par with animals.
- alphaxion
There's one tribe in Alaska or Canada that has a big ceremony, then they row out in their boat to find a whale, and when they're ready for the kill, they don't pull out a spear but grab a .50 caliber rifle and shoot it. Guess it isn't all that authentic...
- Andrew Leyden
I guess the only person that knows why he hung on is him?
- Brian Sullivan
you would assume so...maybe he thought he might bounce back up again! :)
- Zee.
It's a reflex when you're falling, you want to hold onto something for as long as possible.
- Andrew Trinh
I think that's actually a cooler trick than vaulting the pole.
- Ray Grieselhuber
If it is a reflex I would think that resisting the reflex would be something a pole vaulter would normally do?
- Brian Sullivan
Pole vaulters release when they know where they want to drop, in this case this wasn't planned so you'd hold onto something for dear life. At least until your brain comes into action again.
- Andrew Trinh
Andrew, that's interesting - you've pole vaulted before?
- Zee.
it's true - it's amazing how it just doesn't snap.
- Zee.
he held on because he was over the pit you place your pole into which has no padding - all things considered he probably had a softer landing than letting go at top
- mike "glemak" dunn
Oh the relief when I realised it wasn't the one where the guy comes down on the pole...perfectly on his daddy bag
- Toby Graham

- Mona Nomura
Mona: Try Farsi123 http://farsi123.com Use the English button for both Farsi & English input (doesn't always work). You can use Farsi123 to find cool Farsi phrases; e.g. search for "help" http://www.farsi123.com/... --- http://farsidic.com/F2E is supposed to do Farsi-to-English, but I've never been able to paste in Farsi text, and re-typing is a pain. Haven't found anything good for pasting in Farsi-to-English unfortunately... :-(
- Mitchell Tsai
Now. After Mona and Trish, Mitchel joined us. Welcome Mitchell :D
- aliatrvash
Trish: No LOL I wrote that in response to you asking me to dance! I used that too "Please speak more slowly" hahhahaha! Dude, I love you. @Mehrdad: Yes! And "Man az zaban e farsi khosham miayad" !!!!!!
- Mona Nomura
عصر بخیر Ali (Good evening.) It's 5:29 am PDT here (but 4:59 pm IRDT in Tehran). One of my Persian friends was trying to teach me the accents on "good morning". Persian & Arabic alphabets are hard...
- Mitchell Tsai
@Mona. Could you name the Food which you'd like to know how to cook?
- aliatrvash
if you really want to learn Persian i suggest you to use rosetta stone products http://www.rosettastone.com/ their prices are a little high but their products cover any language that you can imagine. if you don't want to pay money you can find some of their product on torrent. im using their product to learn english an a little french ;)
- امیرعباس
Ali: I am a huge fan of your marination recipes. The meats are always SO tender and absolutely wonderful!! @amir: Your English is absolutely amazing! Perhaps I will look into torrents - to preview, of course! :) @Mehrdad! That website was incorrect! LOL!!!!!
- Mona Nomura
Mona I would love to teach some Persian cuisine :)
- انجل
@Mona N. It is good to learn as many language as possible... but it's better to learn international language. :-"
- Vahid۹Online
Vahid: Arabic seems to be very helpful in Muslim countries. Is Persian used in any of the countries around Iran?
- Mitchell Tsai
@ Mitchell: Afghanistan and tajikistan
- aliatrvash
@ Mitchell : NP thanks for coming back ! and your question to Vahid yes in Afghanistan and Tajikistan
- انجل
@Vahid: Isn't Farsi one of the largest spoken languages in the world? @Mehrdad: Your conversation is over my head... I will leave it in your capable hands lol @تنهاترین Really?! You will be willing to exchange recipes? :O!!!
- Mona Nomura
@Mona N. Some say that love is the international language :)))) :-"
- Vahid۹Online
Oh. I have an Afghan friend here. Maybe I'll ask her if she speaks Farsi and/or Pashto. Are the 2 languages related?
- Mitchell Tsai
Thank you, Ali, Mehrdad, Vahid, and everyone else for answering our questions + helping with translation! I hope I am not butchering your language too much... از ديدن شما خوشحالم (It's nice to meet you all!)
- Mona Nomura
ممنون Ali and Mehrdad. If you speak Persian, how much Pashto can you understand? سلام (salaam) seems to be similar to Arabic, but they have salaam aleekum (or aleeka and aleekii). Are there many similar words between Persian & Arabic?
- Mitchell Tsai
@ Mitchell. we have some similar words but the Grammars are different. We can hardly understand Pashtoo. if we concentrate.
- aliatrvash
Mehrdad: Really? Hopefully, I did not offend anyone! And the pleasure is absolutely all mine! :)
- Mona Nomura
@mitchell - relation between Persian and Arabic is like relation between English and french. thare are lot of Arabic words in our language and vice versa but the grammer is completely different
- امیرعباس
