I use Gmail and Yahoo mainly, for mail. Yahoo plus comes with my ISP and has some nice features that Gmail doesn't... AddressGuard and an alternate address being the primary ones.

And I still have a hotmail account that receives some traffic from time to time but I dread having to open and read it. I use all three and there's several reasons why. 1) I need more than one account 2) Each company owns different components of the web which I use. For example; I have a Yahoo account to access Flickr and the mail just comes with it. 3) I can't get into my original Gmail account (long story) which had my preferred username, so I opened an account at live.com where my name was available....

I just bought a Canon HF10 which I got cheap since it's been replaced by the '09 models. I like these well enough, but I like a camera that looks like a camera (and it's 1080P).

Yes, I also have the FZ-28 and am very happy with it as well. It has the same HD movie mode. I bought the TZ5 for my wife. If you get one just be careful to buy the right SD card fast enough to handle the video mode. I recommend the Kingston Class 6 card. I bought an Adata class 6 only to find out these cards aren't created equally despite the ratings and it errored on recording.

FZ-28 is the best choice in the price range - 250-300, but if you can wait until June, and have a few hundred bucks more, the Panasonic GH1 will be THE ticket to ride. After seeing the GH1 sample videos coming out of Japan this weekend (just released there), I wish I had saved up and waited. There's big debates on forums comparing the pros and cons to the Canon 5d Mark II. The very fact that it is even debated is HUGE!!

Adrian...I totally agree on the FZ28. I had considered possibly upgrading to the Canon SX1 IS after hearing it was finally going to be released in the US but then have heard that the video mode has some defective issue. The Panny GH1 sounds very interesting to me but that means I move into the DSLR world which I'm not sure I"m ready for. I'll have to look into it more once it is realeased. What forums do you frequent for info?

The fz28 has anti shake and decent continuous auto focus as well as an awesome Leica lens for a few bucks more. Won't fit in your pocket though.

I've always thought these were ripoffs since you can get a digicam that has optical image stabilization, optical zoom, and could actually take photos too :). But most current gen digicams record to MJPEG which creates HUGE files. If you want to upload to youtube, you'd have to re-encode or else the upload would take forever. Also, most digicams use a CCD sensor and recording lights/sun causes purple lines. The Flips use a CMOS sensor which doesn't have that effect but then it gains the wobbly rolling..

I agree. If I could add one feature, it would be image stabilization. It hard to take a nice shot without a tripod. I borrowed a friends regular flip, and the upload to YouTube was a breeze. There's a lot to be said for that kind of convince.

I don't think it's a fair to compare a Flip vs a SuperZoom camera. The Flips are made for dead simple operation and pocketability. You don't have to take out an SD card to transfer files since it has a USB jack. The FZ28 should have better quality since it has a huge lens. But like it said before, once you shoot at light, the video is ruined. Plus it records to mjpeg and re-encoding to upload to Youtube kind of defeats the purpose.

It's all about trade offs one way or another. However the tz5 has similar imaging capabilities to fz28 and it's pocketable. The fz28 does have a usb jack and it isn't that hard to deal with to upload, but you are right about the file formats.

IMO, if you want something like the Flip, just get an iPhone, jailbreak it, and use Qik. Streaming straight to a site is as convenient as you can get. If you want quality, get a real camcorder like a Canon HF S100.

Well, if you're set on a digicam, wait for a newer pocketable Panny that record to h.264. There's still the sensor issue, but at least the files are smaller. The Panasonic ZS3 is the successor to the TZ line. They are the same size as the TZ5 but record 720p using the h.264 codec.

I have to check all these out. The low-end market is red hot. I was just looking at a new Sony, which does 1080P for $200 bucks. The review was average, but it's clear that competition will force one of these companies to come out with a great sub $200 camera. I don't think it's a good time to buy one right now. I have one other option. I have friends that works at Sony Studios. Usually I can get 40% off anything they make. Is there a descent Sony that's worth looking at? No problem :). Hm. Sony consumer camcorders are usually fairly expensive. Try getting a price for the SR11 & CX12. The Sony TG1 is compact. The successor is the TG5. The easy pick last year was the Canon HF100, but like I said before, the price has gone up.

I'll take it if I could get one for $1,000 tomorrow! I saw a HV-30 for $599 that looks nice. BTW, the video of the turtle looks great. This is a different segment of the market entirely. Whenever I start looking at these, It makes me want to spend more and not make any compromises. It’s a tough call. My original intentions were to buy one low-end camera, and one high-end model. Now I need to do some research.

I suspect they went down in price for the holiday season and went back up again. The Canon is a very good bet. Ask Derrick how his HF10 is. The HF100 is exactly the same but the HF10 has internal 16GB memory while the HF100 has no internal memory. You'll just have to grab a SDHC card.

@krynsky I got it! I was at Costco yesterday, and they had all three of the camera’s. I based my final decision on how much money I had with me at the time. The Canon HF-10 was selling for $560.00 and the sx200 was $345.00. The Flip HD with tripod was $300.00. At the time, I had $500.00 with me. I ended up buying the sx200. I only had a chance to play around with it a little today. I’m going to finish loading the software and see how the pictures look. I’ll update soon!

Great Michael. Keep us posted on how you like it and what you think of the video mode. It sounds like optical zoom while recording wasn't an issue for you, but unfortunately that's a prob for me. Purchasing at Costco is a good choice as well since they offer a very liberal return policy if you aren't happy.

Congratulations to everyone involved. :) We were told that our second child was going to be a girl, the hospital staff were certain. You know what is coming — yep, it was a boy. It was the biggest shock of the night. The second biggest shock (a few moments earlier) was me having to deliver him at home with instructions over the phone from the emergency services. Good luck! :)

it depends, as always. on a blog the content is clearly important. but i have to admit that whenever you are "choosing" what to read ex. in friendfeed, it could be more attractive a note that has an image. its like designing the way the people would look at your info.

I agree that content matters more than design, yet I wouldn't go so far as to say design doesn't matter at all. Not all people use feed readers, so I think design does affect their perception. And, for those that click through the feed readers, design affects their impression of the writer's professionalism, too.

There is no chicken-egg situation here. Without content, design is just a geegaw. You can have content without design, but the idea of design is to make the content accessible in an appealing and useful way. I'm also a full-content RSS fiend, but I appreciate it when images, videos, and code specimens show up nicely in the feed too. When I link to articles, especially ones continued...

Robert - yes, but you usually read it in Google Reader after you visited it at least once. Content is King, but the design is still the Queen, she is also important and supportive to the King. 80-20 law at work?

The design is not just the colors of the web or blog, even in a feed reader like Google Reader the design acts there, in a very minimal way, but if we reduces this, imagine the feed in a disorder without an align text and non.centered images, that’s blow the mind of the reader and he going to decide just to not to read that post. If the content is not dumb-friendly it just not going to work out of the geekland limits. Disculpen mi ingles.

Design is important. First impressions mean a lot. You can't run around with a default blogspot template or default wordpress theme and think you are going to be a big success. (this is especially important if your blog is hosted on Blogspot.) It's too common and doesn't stand out in the least bit, and everyone has seen it a million times on splogs. If you want to be taken seriously or trusted by the average person, you need to do something that shows you are not just another common splog.

The answer should be obvious to people who anchor their view of design to Charles Eames brilliant definition: "A plan for arranging elements in such a way as to best accomplish a particular purpose." You can only critique a design in relation to its purpose. Design is about meeting objectives. It's not (primarily) about looking pretty.

The night I met my husband, I asked him to marry me 3 times. Was it love at first sight? I don't think so, but I did feel an affinity toward him. I don't know about "the one". I don't think there is any one person for someone else. I believe there is 'the one' person for you at that moment in your life. If I had met my husband 5 years before, I doubt I would have even spoken to him.

I've never experienced what I would think of as "instant love." But I believe that love can grow into something profound. I don't believe in "star-crossed lovers" or "soul mates" or "the one." If you look at the success of many arranged marriages, it's plain that love can be cultivated.

"Four Weddings and Funeral" with the whole thunderbolt or learn to like the look of someone discussion and then in "The Bronx Tale" with the 3 great ones in your life on speech (while Chaz is driving backwards). Should I post the clips? i believe in a combo of true love/the one ... Nowadays, more cultivation is needed IMO.

As for me...?? I do not believe in it. Even if there is chemistry from the beginning, I believe you have to work hard not to lose it. Otherwise people lose what they loved to begin with and grow apart after the first year. I definitely don't believe in "The One" either. What I once thought was my "One" turned out to be someone else's "One". Sorry if this sounds really pessimistic. [If it counts for anything I am thinking about spending the rest of my life with Debbie. Just have to save a little money =)]

I'm a hopeless romantic so I believe in all three. It wasn't at first sight with me and my wife though. What we have now was cultivated over time even though I "knew" pretty early on that she was the one for me. I "knew" at 3 months, proposed after 9 and we were married at roughly 16 months. So not instant but not too long either.

Love at first sight? No. Lust/intense like, a deep attraction to someone yes. I've had that both for platonic and romantic relationships. I've had meetings with people were I feel like I've known them forever and I'm excited about actually getting to know more about them. But a deeper friendship requires time, energy and motivation, on both parts. Love, as much as I believe in it, isn't the end all be all to a relationship.

i do believe in love at first sight and true love. i do not, however, believe that either of them last forever without a whole lot of work, patience, and occasional bouts of drama. ... wrt my current relationship, it just kind of happened. we clicked from the instant we met. but it took us 3.5 years, some tito's vodka, and a plane ticket to see "us" as an option (opposite coasts and another relationship will do that).

I'm not going to rule out love at first sight as a possibility. I just think it must be extremely rare, if it happens. I DO believe lust at first sight is often mistaken for love, and that sometimes it develops into a true bond.
