i don't see how there can be any true digg-ness for real estate info because many web2.0 re-folks have already expressed interest in colluding to game systems such as stumble upon and other sites for exposure for their content, that a digg-like site's credibility would be instantly ruined.
- Morgan
Only time will tell but just like with anything else try and try again:)
- chris shouse
I'm in, but it will have to be really good to stay on my radar. It seems like I am signing up for a new service every other day and forgetting about them faster than old girlfriends.
- Tom Royce
In many ways, I think that if Twitter goes to a fee-based service, and people migrate away in droves, it might say more about the community than it says about the application.
- Daniel Rothamel
If it were a more robust utility with no ads, I'd pay for a pro account in a heartbeat. It's already important to my business and social life and I don't see the future of the medium going away.
- Brad Coy
One of the keys to Twitter is the "free" aspect - many (most) people don't "get" it until they've tried it for a while - maybe a 120 day free period and *then* fee based?
- Jim Duncan
I have been off of it for the past 2 days because twirl is saying my limit is exceeded when I sign on
- Tom Royce
In the early days of Blogger they had constant outages. The same owners are behind both, yet we never remember how unstable blogger was. If the problem was almost anything but high growth I would be worried. Instead the infrastructure will be refined to deal with the loads.
- Tom Royce
How long will the average user put up with twitter (given the recent outages? ) No time at all. Why deal with the aggravation? It takes time to actually understand the utility anyway. How can this be accomplished when it's always problematic to use?
- Brad Coy
The thing that has really be ticking me off is the Twhirl "penalty box," and the fact that I am not getting my Twitter updates via SMS. People "@" me, but I have no idea unless I am looking at my Twitter timeline because-- a) Twhirl has paused my updates, and/or b) the "@" replies aren't being delivered via SMS. Twitter's functionality is almost completely destroyed if you have to use Twitter.com all the time. I'm not a going to drink the Twitter haterade just yet, but they need get their s**t straight.
- Daniel Rothamel
Truth be told, as a frequent user of twitter for messaging I have been real upset that it has not been working. Yes, I have become dependent on the utility for messaging as many others have. I sincerely hope that they get it fixed. As for now, I'm more or less off and have asked many not to send me DM's as I have had some communication breakdown due to the lack of availability.

True Confessions of A Real Estate Broker | BloodhoundBlog: Real estate marketing and technology blog | Realtors and real estate, mortgages, lending, investments - http://www.bloodhoundrealty.com/Bloodho...
would love to hear more on this subject from RE owners, brokers, and/or consultants experienced with incorporating web 2.0 with the independent brokerage model.
- Brad Coy
My brokerage is unique. We are all related, and we share all the commissions. We do have one full-time and two part-time employees, and we are seriously considering the virtual-assistant route as well. Personally, I have always felt that real estate firms should be structured more like law firms and migrate towards an hourly compensation scale. I think it would help a lot of issues facing the industry.
- Daniel Rothamel
. . . the only thing I haven't quite figured out is how to do that in a practical way. Sellers have been conditioned to only pay agents upon the closing, and buyers have been conditioned not to see any money come out of their pocket at all. Although, if that could change, it would make people much more conscientious about choosing their agent. It would also force agent to do a better job explaining the value they deliver.
- Daniel Rothamel
I'm going to be writing more posts along this line of thought, but this is the first. The Seth Godin book kinda put into writing conversations that I have had with a lot of people (some of you here) about all this social media talk around the industry.
- Daniel Rothamel
yeah, for some reason, the post unpublished itself. It should be back. It was in my RSS feed, but the post didn't exist. How would that happen?
- Daniel Rothamel
if it stayed up I could see paying 10-20 bucks a year for Twitter, or have a basic account that could be updated once every 10 minutes for free and another one that could have unlimited updates for the above price.
- Tom Royce
I'd support a freemium model where I, as a power user, would pay ~$25 just like the pro Flickr account that I've happily paid for for almost 4 years.
- Andy Kaufman
there's just not much of a value add... I've paid for the pro account on Flickr because I get more. Premium twitter? If it happens, it won't be for services that they currently offer for free
- Dustin
I may pay $25.00 a year but would you if FF got running better?
- chris shouse
I'm with Andy. I like the Flickr model, considering that on a per user basis they are not storing much data at all. A single 6MB Movie file is equal in space to almost 10,000 140 character tweets. And people aren't viewing tweets thousands of times.
- Jeff "RESPRES" Turner
That said, why not charge the third parties instead. Keep the user base free and charge for API access?
- Jeff "RESPRES" Turner
That is a very good point Jeff taking nothing away from Twitter it is useful and it has its place making bonding with "The Tribe" but I have never been too much for mindless chatter. I am here to learn and I soak up as much as I can. I ask questions and Dustin and Jeff have been so generous with their knowledge. So for me at least FF room is better. I will use Twitter for friendship and to post my blog on occasion or new pics which I have discovered a passion for.
- chris shouse
i would pay for it if it guaranteed uptime and allowed unlimited api calls/minute. tie charges to taking the gate off the API calls. (like jeff said!)
- Morgan
from twhirl
Chris... I think there is a real need for different kinds of "places." I enjoy the open net for many, many thing, but there are some topics I think are best explored in smaller, tighter groups. The rooms are a great addition to FF, but, IMO, it's only a matter of time before Twitter steps up to bat and offers some of the same features. The twitter community has been calling for groups for a long, long time.
- Jeff "RESPRES" Turner
Jeff what kind of groups? A group of Realtors? How do you follow a group?
- chris shouse
$0. I don't use Twitter enough yet to pay...
- Mitchell Tsai
Chris... being able to group your followers/friends into sets. I'd love to have several different sets that would allow me to see a completely different conversation string.
- Jeff "RESPRES" Turner
OK Jeff I could see that my programing thoughts are nil but I would guess it could be done. I am thinking of all sorts of possibilities.
- chris shouse
I wanted to blog about this earlier, but never got around to it, obviously. I find it to be an interesting theory. There is no doubt that things are changing, and this might be one possible reason as to why.
- Daniel Rothamel
daniel check out clay shirky's web 2.0 keynote on the same thing - cognitive surplus: web20.blip.tv it's so true it's scary.
- Morgan
Yeah, check out that keynote, and if it's something that's up your alley, I'd definitely recommend checking his book out as well. I'm halfway through it right now and I'm having a hard time putting it down when the BART rolls up to my stop.
- Andy Kaufman
i agree w/andy i blew through the book. great read highly recommend.
- Morgan
from twhirl
Ok, this has nothing to do with real estate. . .or does it? I love cars, and I love gadgets. This fits both bills. I just wish I could figure out an excuse, errr, reason, that I need it for real estate. It seems to me that $200 for a digital video camera that is waterproof up to 100ft and could be attached to just about any moving object is pretty damn good. Plus, it takes 3MP digital stills.
- Daniel Rothamel
Daniel - respres mentioned that they've intentionally kept feeds out of rooms to keep them from turning in to another noisy place like the main feed.
- Morgan
I was mainly thinking of a way of trying to get my shared items in here on occasion. Double-posting is annoying.
- Daniel Rothamel
And Daniel... I follow a bunch of people's shared items feed w/ G Reader and you have one of the best ones out there. :)
- Dustin
Thanks, Dustin. I am always envious of how you can deliver great blog posts with just one sentence. Man, I wish I had thought of that first. ;-)
- Daniel Rothamel
Food for thought about meetings and conferences. Meetings are pretty much worthless, in my opinion. But anyone planning a large gathering or conference should find good advice here.
- Daniel Rothamel
Don't do it because... 1) You'll be uninformed and out of touch. 2) You'll be missed.
- Louis Gray
I'm going to interpret Louis' cryptic remark as meaning that if you do it, you might like it. And we can't have that!
- Phil G
right there with ya, Susan... I may do the same this week...
- Shawn L. Morrissey
Question: Why? If you feel overwhelmed, spend only 30 min or an hour or so. So much cool information comes out of the web daily that I'd hate to miss it. Block out the noise, and you truly can see some neat things every day.
- Bartek Ciszkowski
Awww how nice!! You guys would miss me (teary eyed smile!)... and YES way un-informed... Heck FriendFeed could go from ROOMs, to HOTELS to CITIES in only 3 days! yikes ...i'd have a gazillion posts, likes and comments to catchup on! impossible!
- Susan Beebe
We're going camping tomorrow so won't be online hardly at all until Friday. Good job there's slandr and FFtogo ;)
- Colin Walker
And I should point out I had my response up before Susan had hers. No points for speed?
- Louis Gray
@Louis - your comment was up there like lightening... for a second there i thought my internet connx was slow or something...but you my dear LIVE in FF and are ON top of everything! super fast wow!
- Susan Beebe
Once again, another instance where I like the question but think that I am in fact relaxing whilst leisurely surfing thru the noise of Friend Feed. I all ready found out two really cool things. In any case, enjoy the long weekend!
- Mathew A. Koeneker
from fftogo
OMG you guys know me too well already!! LOL this is funny! ok, maybe 3 hours instead of 3 days? huh? thoughts?
- Susan Beebe
You can do it Susan! Just pretend that when you're not using the internet, no one else is either! Works for me, hehe ;P
- Alana Taylor
@Alana - smart... just pretend...sorta like pretend when twitter is down...can't post anyway, right?!
- Susan Beebe
Come on people, we have to stop once in a while!! :-)
- Mary Anne Davis
NO! You'll be so disconnected! Just think of the unread items you'll have when returning.
- Brandon Titus
laughing at all these comments and replies...there's a mixed feeling here; some say DO IT others say NO. And Phil Glockner has an excellent point, I "might like it"!
- Susan Beebe
I went cold turkey for one day on Twitter. I think you should do it. It'll be a great experience to blog about.
- Corvida
@Cordiva - what did you learn while off of twitter 1 full day?
- Susan Beebe
Coming back to Google Reader after a weekend away is a daunting task.
- Kevin Bondelli
I went cold turkey on my RSS reader for 30 days. It was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
- Daniel Rothamel
I'm so used to my current Hyper-connected lifestyle that when I go to work and do without for half a day - I don't feel I can work to my fullest (despite doing more than most around me)
- CannonGod
from twhirl
wow, 3 weeks offline?! gotta check that out...
- Susan Beebe
Cm'on people. I don't understand the comments of not being on.
- Dave Ploch
from twhirl
When folks talk like this, it sure sounds like an addiction. Of COURSE you can live without being hyperconnected. You can even live without RSS feeds, email, and even a phone. A long time ago, we used to call that a vacation
- 2WheelTech
from twhirl
To be HYPER-CONNECTED or NOT to be? hmmm... that's the question of the day. And yea, "vacation" sorta does come to mind.... I remember that word!
- Susan Beebe
I'm not sure how I'd handle a holiday as it's been years since the last. I think this XKCD comic pretty much sums it up: http://xkcd.com/77/ :D
- CannonGod
yes we are worried went through back spasm in March and was down for five days, hopefully your isnot as bad
- Fred Grott
There is an epidemic of us getting struck with one thing or another. We need group medical insurance for social media people alone! Take care of yourself, Loic
- Susan Reynolds
from Alert Thingy
thanks, all fine myneck is blocked just from muscles reaction to my car being hit by that drunk driver. All ok now (almost!)
- Loic Le Meur
Hmm, both 7.9 and 8 have a problem displaying new tweets after a few minutes. scrolling down then up makes them magically appear...
- Rick Mahn
from twhirl
@Rick Mahn Noticing the same and it's irritating me
- Corvida
from twhirl
its good, still needs filters to remove double tweets from people in friendfeed and twitter, and I should be able to see all the comments without needing the browser. Isn't that the point of a desktop app? no browser usage?
- BCK
from twhirl
Using Twhirl Version 0.8... It's great! The only thing I would like more is the ability to use one feed which would push FriendFeed and Twitter into the same stream and allow me to post to both from the same stream!
- Dustin Mooney
from twhirl
Good stuff - nice addition! I would love to have it in a single integrated window with some nice filtering, but the addition of FF is a nice start.
- Kevin Johnson
Can I suggest to make it an option to combine the windows? I would want the feedfriend to be separate to my twitter - I also want to be able to decide to have one open and one closed. Like you can now for different twitter accounts. Sure make it an option to do so but also not to.
- Dave Gray
Working well most of the time. The friend feed window sometimes locks up when I try to navigate between friends and any of the other view buttons. OS X 10.5 Intel. Anyone else have those problems?
- Jeremy Kunz
from twhirl
Yeah, seems that there must be a fair load on the servers
- Dave Gray
from twhirl
I like Alert Thingy's UI better but if twhirl goes single-window, it'll be hard to beat.
- Akiva Moskovitz
from twhirl
I must say, I do prefer Alert Thingy (still). It looks prettier and i like that it expands comments in its own window instead of going to the FF site like twhirl. If I wanted that, I'd be using the site not twhirl. Still, the first client to integrate twitter/FF into one stream, and eliminate duplicate tweets will get my vote
- David Adam
from twhirl
If you follow too many Twitters and FriendFeeds, there is a need to have two windows to sort out everything. How about having the option to use one or two windows. Two windows works for me.
- Freddie Avalos
from twhirl
Interesting point Freddie makes. Perhaps remove the Twitter messages from FF if you allow merged Windows. That way you only see the Twitter messages once.
- Richard Giles
from twhirl
Perhaps the combined window could be an option. I don't know which I would prefer. Right now, I think I like the two windows. But, as others have said, it will be great when we are able to filter out Twitter messages so they don't show up on FriendFeed window as well as the Twitter window.
- Gregory Pittman
from twhirl
Loic, please get Twhirl to open links in a new tab, not a new window. Skype can do it.
- Mick Liubinskas
Why does Twhirl insist on using IE instead of my default browser (Flock)? is it only me? gngngngn
- Kamath (नमः)
from twhirl
Thanks for the release! I wish it has "per web service" filtering just like MySocial 24x7. That would make the thing much more useful.. :)
- Leon Ho
Not sure if this is the best place to comment about this, but on MacOSX 10.5.2, there's some weird kerning issues in the FF comment box, specifically with the 'w' eg where is that space coming from - http://skitch.com/jordanb...
- Jordan Brock
from twhirl
would also be great to collapse a FF notification, because this particular one looks like it is going to consume the top of my FF window for a while, and I'd like to see others :)
- Richard Giles
from twhirl
So what's it gonna be, thwirl or alert thingy? both have pretty much the same features now I guess..
- Leo Koivulehto
from Alert Thingy
Hidden entries integration keeps me with Alert Thingy for the moument. I'll also add my voice to having the option to combine windows, auto removing the dupes, and expanding comments in the client.
- Tony, Paradox of FF
from Alert Thingy
Also, both clients are missing an in client player for the things like YouTube favorites and Seesmic posts. Come to think of it, the only reason I end up keeing either client running is for the desktop notifications. Other than that the Friendfeed website itself is still a much better experience. But I guess its all still new and will be sorted out over time.
- Tony, Paradox of FF
Not a lot of luck getting this to work. Comes up fine but doesn't update the screen, unable to open anything.
- 2WheelTech
