Last show of the year. One thing I'd like to talk about? Tips for making your digital life better in 2013. But it's not my show. So, who knows what we'll talk about! :-)
- Robert Scoble
But the context of the content is key. Happy that LinkedIn stopped auto posting.
- Nick Morgan
If someone autoshares something with me from a different social network, I tend to turn that person off. If I wanted to see you on that other network, I would be there, not here.
- Kevin Bryan
I think there is an argument FOR automation on some level :)
- Kevin Costain
some kinds of automation, yes. smarter automation
- Kevin Marks
Right.. Smarter automation. Automate in smart ways, monitor and engage.
- Kevin Costain
I don't get this push notification stuff from Steve. I will need to have an intelligence layer to be useful. Right now push notifications are just being used as a way for mobile apps each avoid keeping a socket open.
- Simon Tennant
Facebook settings are so obtuse (still) that "tuning" it is a full time occupation.
- Brian Sullivan
but is it useful to post the same message on different networks? ie. the content you post on twitter, would you necessarily want to post it on facebook? Does the service change the type of message you might post?
- Michael Roberts
binding between tags across sites is important - it was in 2005 when we did it at technorati, and still is now
- Kevin Marks
We solved the namespace problem too domain/username
- Kevin Marks
Kevin: I agree sometimes, but I wouldn't necessarily post everything to every service. I think this will becomes even more important in 2013 as twitter and facebook start to realize what their post value is. I wouldn't post to twitter if I want to engage and audience for example.
- Michael Roberts
/me sends Simon Tennant to the WebFinger acct: URL discussion
- Kevin Marks
yes, but app architecture and stream based messaging has broken it
- Keith Teare
it's also the reason that we use name@domain for buddycloud where each domain can run their own server and exchange messages.
- Simon Tennant
Kev: did they fix the SSL vs Plaintext debate - I was following it but then bailed becasue of that.
- Simon Tennant
Each network has unique value and populations. If you're an android developer, you want to G+
- Murray Macdonald
still iterating on that, last I looked
- Kevin Marks
honestly, one of the reasons I stay in Facebook more and twitter less is because I can count on Scoble liberally posting important tech (and semi-important) stuff on facebook
- Tina Chase Gillmor
if flipboard brought in all the data/feeds .. as it does now.. but then provided a common space for discussion / engagement they will be a big winner in 2013.
- Michael Roberts
I don't follow scoble on wither, he's too noisy
- Kevin Marks
Developer frameworks could change notifications. Things like Urban Airship and it's competitors could provide a more flexible alternative to plain vanilla notifications.
- Murray Macdonald
yes Murray, also the html5 notification stuff as that firms up
- Kevin Marks
What's going to happen to mobile data plans? If they're too restrictive, it's going to kill all the innovation being talked about on this show.
- Kevin Bryan
open and fat loses to closed and thin :-)
- Keith Teare
Like Corel, Blackberry won't die. Canadian Zombies live forever.
- Murray Macdonald
Kevin: You are right on! the carrier data plans are going to either kill some great apps and/or inspire new compression and data delivery models.
- Brendan Cosgrove
our TV on Xbox, my Windows PC and VZW grandfathered unlimited LTE Nexus all connect to Netflix. What's airplay?
- Da
Brendan Cosgrove: I think we're going to see a TON of data plan prices increases for the average consumer over the next year. It's not an issue in the mainstream press yet, but it will be.
- Kevin Bryan
How about more guests...ie fresh bits and bytes
- Gary M. Levin
