Just a couple if hours ago I got a call about her having a heart attack. She is a lung cancer survivor. Her treatment bought her about 18 months. About 30 mins ago I got the call that she was on life support and probably wouldnt make it through the night. While calling my brothers the final update came. I just told the kids. We had a good discussion about life and death and where they fit in the grand scheme of things.
- Josh Haley
Sorry for your loss, Josh. My condolences to you and the family.

talk about out of the blue though. And no good bye. This will hit me more later I am sure. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and prayers.

Sorry for your loss, Josh! :( *hugs*. I've only lost one grandparent so far. I hope you and your family find comfort in each other.

It's OK to use the like link on a bad news post. I really appreciate the support from you all, and consider you all friends. Otherwise I would not have been comfortable sharing. I spoke with my mom about the ordeal today and she us handling things very well right now. Things could and will most likely change but it was good to hear her voice and allow her to say some of these things out...

Two years after my fathers death, I find what comforts me most is that he didn't suffer long. Since then I've witnessed the ordeal of someone who did not go quickly, instead lingering month after month. If you have to die, its better to go quickly.

:-( I'm sorry, Josh. Prayers and warm thoughts for your whole family.

Grandparents are such a unique part of our lives. I'm happy that you had a chance to know her. Can you even imagine how happy you made her by giving her some wonderful little Great-Grandchildren?
- Christopher Harley
Josh: I guess God needed her back to help with things in the kingdom. I figure that if someone from our family had to be the 'advance team' for the rest of us, Grandma Pudge is the perfect choice. Never was there a more loving, intelligent, quick witted and forgiving person. She was just shy of 5 feet tall, but she was in charge of any group, any where, any time. Nobody ever doubted or challenged this. She was, and continues to be, awesome. I will miss her something awful, but will see her again...
- Morgan Haley
Well said, Morg. She was a powerhouse packed into just under 5 feet. And again, thank you all for keeping us in your thoughts.
- Josh Haley
Terribly sorry to hear that Josh. My prayers are with you and your family.

So sorry to hear, Josh! My thoughts are with you all at this sad time!

Need some advice: A family, which I had serviced yesterday, left a $20 tip upon finishing their meal. Usually all tips go into the pot, but my coworker told me that it was a "private tip" for me. He handed it to me. Should I inquire with my boss about this or leave it alone? PS: I'm new at the restaurant.
I would find out from your coworker how to tell the difference between the two...for future reference.
- Rebecca Briggs
To be honest, I thought he was doing it out of good will. Being only my 3rd day on the job, I was thinking he was just trying to literally "show me the money" LOL! Though, I will find out from him! Thanks Rebecca!

HAVE YOU EVER seen a transformation this fast? In barely two months, the Barracuda became the Scapegoat. Think of it as evolution on steroids.
- Rebecca Briggs
Watching recording of Ed on UStream. He brings up Q of IMers & politics. I unsubbed from Clayton Makepeace b/c of his reactionary views. I don't care how good he is at copywriting. Don't want his RSS feed. My 2 cents.
Agreed - Maybe don't use your IM related blog to push your political views, certainly if they are a bit on the extreme side! Set another one up for this. He's lost me as a subscriber too.
- Andrew
Politics are not generally good topics for business... unless you personally have the ability to set your preferences aside and listen to others without making judgments on those people... it takes a very fine tuned restraint which most people do not have
- Mark South
That's strange because that is when my respect for Clayton increased! His mind is obviously not as conditioned as most and is capable of free will thought. I applaud him for having the guts to say what people need to hear to shake them from their apathy. However you may be right that it would be better on a blog devoted to breaking people's mind-conditioning from the mass media propaganda.
- Lisa
In the latter days of the campaign I unsubbed from several known IMers. I think they expect there will be backlash if they open their mouths politically, but for them it is worth it and they can afford it.
- Rebecca Briggs
I do my best to approach interactions with people of different cultures and beliefs as open-minded as possible. I do catch myself being judgmental, and I've made good progress to change that. I'm aware there's always room for improvement. I welcome challenges to my assumptions. I'm grateful for loving & authentic friendships with ppl of widely diverse cultures -- these beautiful relationships are nurtured b/c we respectfully LISTEN to each other. Of course we mess up, but we've built a foundation of trust.
- Liz Tufte
With that trust, we can be honest with one another & build community. In the case of Makepeace, I heard him out. I was willing to withhold judgment; after all, he was holding forth on his own turf. I was there as a guest in order to learn IM & copywriting strategies. However, it soon became obvious that he has hostile, disrespectful, & judgmental attitudes towards groups of people who care about things like wildlife and the environment. And he seemed to get great glee out of ridiculing ppl who think polar
- Liz Tufte
bears have a right to exist. Well, I have the right to leave the room rather than stay and tolerate unacceptable behavior. I don't have to laugh at it & shrug it off. Actually, I don't have a problem with politics being discussed in a biz space as long as disagreements are respectful. I'm open to seeing other viewpoints. But mean ppl suck & I don't have to hang around. BTW, Mark, it would be one thing to say something like, "I agree with Makepeace and don't think he's reactionary." It's a totally diff thing
- Liz Tufte
to post a sideways, condescending comment that seems to arrogantly judge the writer of the original post for being unsophisticated and judgmental. (That's called "projection.") It's worded in such a way that if I took your words personally, you've left yourself an opening to say I'm being too sensitive. Granted, my original post was short & angry, and conveyed no background info. So it could be easy to assume any number of things about me. So my post with your reply is a classic example of dialog breakdown
- Liz Tufte
based on instant assumptions. I think it's cool that Ed brought this up b/c I would imagine that social media and a global community will demand more respect & accountability from us if we expect to succeed in business and sustain a healthy economy. End of essay. :) Cheers.
- Liz Tufte
9...one point off due to the mentioning about "our enemies". We don't want to hear about that right now.
- Fleagle
that was a nod to the right-wing people. they like that stuff.
- Jon Lee
10 - Inspirational, but still addresses the real problems that face America, even though a new president-elect is waiting in the wings. On the contrary, Fleagle, I think it's right for people to hear about the problems to help temper their hope and joy with the reality that there's still a lot of work to be done to get the country back on the right track.
- Cheryl Jones
i give it a 3, typical political BS speech that doesn't mean anything.
- Spencer
the original "yes we can" speech was an 11. the 2004 DNC speech was a 10. the post-Rev. Wright race relations speech was also a 10. this was a 9.
- Chris Hollander
liked the race relations speech, sold me on obama. can't wait for the inaugural...
- Wilma Stoneflint
Truly one of the best political speeches I've ever heard. Right up there with EMK at the 1980 De. Convention. 10
- Jeff Jones
10 - He mentioned a puppy, that was just cool. It made him seem - unlike many politicians - human. I've heard other speeches he's given that are 10's too, like one on the dangers of religious indoctrination he gave at a church, which got many cheers despite the audience.
- Will Higgins™
10 - History in the making. He has the ability to fill you with hope & joy - and I'm an Aussie girl. Congratulations America!
- JanLawrence
9.5...only .5 lost because for some reason I liked his 2004 speech just that little bit more.
- Zee.
true but you also couldn't predict that new jobs numbers would come out at this time, seems to be the main culprit for todays downward swing.
- Bryan
What's odd is, it usually goes up, or at least calms down, after the election. Maybe Wall Street doesn't think Obama will be good for the economy.
- ComicList
Check your facts, Charles. The economy and the market has always done better under Democratic administrations. Republicans talk a great game but the beneficiaries of their largess are a tiny number.
- Phil Boiarski
Maybe Wall Street is afraid that Main Street will be taking part of their action.
- Rebecca Briggs
I'll be glad to check my facts. Let's see: I'm at the lower end of the income scale here in the U.S., and I did better under Reagan and Bush than I did Clinton. The economy has done quite well under Republican Presidents, and it did well under Clinton thanks to a Republican Congress. But I understand, in this age of Obama, facts are less important than feelings.
- ComicList
i don't know where all this socialist crap comes from. All Obama wants to do is not renew tax cuts for the very rich and give tax cuts to the middle class.
- Rebecca Briggs
And, in his own words, take your money and give to someone else. Again, by definition, that's Socialism. So where did it come from, Rebecca? Obama himself.
- Gregory Pittman
Come on Gregory, that's a "simplistic notion" you have that you should want to keep whatever wealth it is you've earned. Just ask any dem, or may Jim Moron: http://www.bvbl.net/index...
- Craig Eddy
They have been taking your money and giving it to someone else already...for a long long time. He just wants to change who gets that money.

I'm looking at it in the Flock browser, and it seems to stop mid-sentence . . . your offer never shows. You might want to see if it looks the same to you in all browsers . . .
- LJF Wolffe
I have just checked it. It shows OK in Flock and other browsers here.
- Frans
Never mind -- it all came up this time. Reading now . . .
- LJF Wolffe
My first thought is that it seems to be a super offer - for anyone that's looking for conversation starters. But you're offering a lot more than that and you could be marketing to so many more people than just people looking for conversation starters. I'd say follow the 30dc steps with it, use Market Samurai to find the good keywords and get it onto a blog, using those keywords.
- Isha (Marysia)
Work on your headline, test your price point ($27), Get rid of the graphic header, put your pic below the headline or try adding a video, get rid of all those banners ads at the bottom. Try and mimic a sales page layout that you like and find appealing. Don't forget to add Google Analytics.
- Mike Hill
from twhirl
I don't know much about sales pages like this; but your might want to look at all your Headlines for Capitalization Consistency. (Sorry, got carried away.) 8-)
- LJF Wolffe
I haven't had a chance to read the offer, but there seems to be just too many different fonts, font sizes and colors. it doesn't look "flowing". And the font size for the body of text is too small to be comfortable for reading. Also, I am not sure if it would make any difference, but maybe you could try a photo of people in conversation on top of the letter and your picture closer to your signature. Oh, and the pic of the product itself might help.
- Rita
"The conversion rate stinks." Why dont you change the product line!
- micmol
I know this is going to sound really funny but it's almost too cheap. Why are you giving me $350 of free stuff for a $7 purchase? As a consumer I have a hard time trusting your product because YOU obviously don't think it's worth much. There's good value in something a little more expensive - this price makes me think I'm in the $.99 store clearance aisle buying my kids a toy that will surely break before morning. Make sense?
- Stacy Nelson
Doh! I hadn't thought of that! Great point Stacey. I know of someone who paid for coaching because he had problems intitiating conversation, he was on state benefits I believe. I think someone with these problems would be expecting to pay a lot more.
- Isha (Marysia)
Micmol - What do you mean by the product line?
- Frans
Ok ... IMHO the whole "deal" does not sound genuine. Now I cant be alone because .... "The conversion rate stinks."
- micmol
Micmol - Not quite the advice I needed. Like going to the doctor with a rash and he tells you to go kill yourself because you're ill! :-)
- Frans
Too many fonts and colors not "flowing." No here's what you do. The top (where it talks about saying something witty) get rid of that and instead put "have you ever wanted to approach a girl you liked but felt uneasy about it because you didn't know what to say when you approached her... I'm telling you dude watch the conversion rate go through the roof. take your picture out and put some stud with six pack abs and well cut up muscles smiling with a babe on each arm.
- Russ
Micmol - "Not quite the advice I needed. Like going to the doctor with a rash and he tells you to go kill yourself because you're ill! :-)" Not the way I would have put it ... IMHO its like going to the doctor who tells you to stop smoking and you ignoring him because you like the taste. Why do you think "your conversion rate stinks" Please think about your answer!
- micmol
I like this!!!! Yep, that's the stuff that sells - can you say the "S" word here ;-)
- Elizabeth
Thanks for all your advice. Have implemented most of them. Stayed away a little from the s-word, but will try it sooner or later. ;-)

On 51st at 520 in Redmond. @Nathan, I've already seen airline prices declining. But I wonder if this time finally is going to make interest in alternate energy stick.

Hi, I've looked at Google Analytics and I couldn't find 'bouncerate' in the glossary, can someone tell me what that is? Is it how long it takes for someone to leave your web site?
Found it in: http://www.google.com/support... They define it as "the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page." Hope it helps!
- LJF Wolffe
Wow, that was quick. Thank you for showing me where you found it also. G'night
- Lisa
Thank you for asking that question, too. I wondered if I had it right.
