Converting .doc to .pdf while retaining the clickable hyperlinks from word doc to pdf. Folks I am using the built in "Save As PDF" feature of Office 2007. It does retain the clickable hyperlinks in the document body. But the hyperlinks I added in the footer of the word doc are not retained in the pdf version.
They retain their physical formatting in the converted pdf file, but nothing happens when I click on them. ANyone has better ideas for converting doc to pdf which will also retain the hyperlinks in the header/footer area? Thanks gang! - Ritesh Lal
Office Word 2007 for some reason can not retain the hyperlink in the footer when converting, I don't know why? I use a program called eWriter Pro that you can write and create ebooks (PDF) or articles in, and also open and convert word .docs and it will retain the link and be clickable. You can also do any editing you may wish to do to the .doc files before you convert to PDF. Another choice is Adobe Acrobat which should also retain the hyperlink but is a bit pricey. - Colossal Marketing™
Have you tried pasting the contents into Open Office, which is free & can save off a document as a pdf (I think the text editor is the one that does it)? - Isha (Marysia)
Thanks all you super cool people. Too tired tonight to try your tips now, but will give them a shot 'morrow :-) - Ritesh Lal
Adobe is pricey however they do have a free trial period if it something you need to get out asap :-) - Elizabeth
You might want to try this. If I'm not mistaken, it saves all your hyperlinks: http://www.microsoft.com/downloa... - Art Y.
@Art Y The PDF and XPS add-on for word2007 will only carry over the clickable hyperlinks that are within the body text of your PDF, for some reason it does not carry over the link in the header or footer. It does carry over the text formating. i.e, the text is link blue but it will not be clickable. - Colossal Marketing™
Oh... I misread... Sorry ^_^; - Art Y.
Lauren
I just wanted to share that I just made $18, my first sale, using trialpay.com. If you haven't heard of it, and you have a product, it's definitely worth checking out. My trialpay offer page is currently converting at 12% (of course, that will drop). Just a thought to those of you interested!
Yay! Congratulations! May the success continue. 8-) - LJF Wolffe
Thank you very much, LJF Wolffe! I hope so. :-P - Lauren
Fabulous! congratulations - wishing you many more sales!!! - Elizabeth
Positive energies all around!! :o) - Aline Ohannessian
Lauren, first sale is always a beautiful moment. Congratulations! Keep the momentum going and post here soon with news of your first $1000 in the bank :-) - Ritesh Lal
Woohoo - congratulations Lauren! - Isha (Marysia)
Hi Lauren - could you explain what trial pay is and how you incorporate it into your business to make money. I just went to the site and don't really understand the concept. Thanks! - Elizabeth
Congratulations Lauren! - Chris Linseman
Congrats! May you have many more =) I've heard about it, cause WPD uses it, but I've never looked into it before. Will try! || @Elizabeth If I'm not mistaken, customers can sign up for free offers, for which Trialpay pays you. So customers are indirectly buying your product by signing up for free trials. Though, I think there are paid trials too - Art Y.
It's kind of like using your product as an incentive for CPA offers, except that they usually pay around $15 or so. (You can adjust how much you'll accept for your product.) So instead of selling your product, you give it away for free and in return TrialPay pays you for the person who completed one of their offers. - Lauren
Thanks for explanation Lauren - was this covered in 30dc+ or something you found on your own? curious minds et al :-) - Elizabeth

The article's analogy to when AOL "opened up" internet email to the masses scares me to death. - Jon Adair
We need decent FriendFeed to Facebook integration. Going via Twitter isn't the best solution. - Peter Kelley
Interesting that there are so many retweets, and so few comments. What is there to say in the moments before Facebook eats Twitter? - Cliff Gerrish
Seeing integration for FriendFeed where we can comment on Facebook entries directly, see more data flow over from Facebook to FriendFeed (sans every annoying notification about every quiz someone takes) will be very nice. - Kevin Kuphal
Actually, I think Twitter can be saved in several ways. I think they could come out on top if they really kicked things in gear differently. Been blogging some thoughts on that, - Ken Camp
I agree with the comments about open standards. Along those lines, I don't think choosing a platform needs to be an all or nothing decision. The redundancy and additional reach that multiple platforms provides now is very beneficial. Inter-service messaging would be helpful and annoying if you are tracking multiple services, but there would be a way to "tool" around that issue. - Larry Roth
Shouldn't Twitter be saving itself? Why would it be up to the users to save Twitter? And re: standards - the word 'open' is redundant. You just need a standard that works to transport messages between the services. - Cliff Gerrish
They've also announced support for the Activity Streams standard today http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index... this could help towards creating an open standard for Lifestreaming. - Mark Krynsky

so excited about never having to see or hear about Sarah Palin, ever again...
She'll be back, Jeremy. She's got a taste of the big time. - Yolanda
yeah, i don't think we've seen the last of her.... - Veronica
You think she'll give up on 2012? - embee
yes! yes! Yes! - Tad
I like her, but I'm not sure if her toughness would survive the primaries. - Ontario Emperor from fftogo
We haven't heard the last of her, but the Republican party has, on the national stage anywho. They know the only thing she helped with was a shrinking base, a base much smaller than it was 4 years ago. I'd love to see woman back there in 4yrs - just let it be a qualified woman. - Michael W. May from twhirl
Yah, but who are we going to laugh at now? - David Cook
Book deal? - Mo Kargas
She'll be back, but won't survive the primaries. I say she gets a TV job. She reads a teleprompter very well. I wish I had such skills. - Robert Scoble
I see The Sarah Palin Show in your future. Friday's will have a You Bet'cha segment. - Eric @ CSTechcast.com
If Stevens wins in Alaska, and then gets thrown out, I see Palin appointing herself to fill out his term. - Andrew Leyden
Alaska has some law that says she has to finish her term if she doesn't become vice president. So that's what... 2 years out? She may not be such a media darling then. - Jason Williams
She reminds me of a lady that ran for office in Australia, Pauline Hansen. Very similar AND in the end she faded out of existence! - Jose Fajardo
Quayle/Palin '12 - Indio Apache from twhirl
Oh yes. Palin will get an education and will be back in 2012. So will Clinton at least in the primaries. - Morton Swimmer

Please let Joe the Plumber join Sarah Palin in the dustbin of history! - Stephen Foskett
ahh is it that bad? :) Apparently there been some interesting mashups :) http://us.dl1.yimg.com/downloa... keeping it fun. - Ray Marr aka Knatchwa
Joe: Probably. I think she'll sit down with some high level political types and assess if she has a chance in 2012. About five minutes later I suspect she'll realize (or be told) that she'll never get beyond her base and make a run for the money while people still remember her name. - Andrew Leyden
Expect to see her pull an Obama and show up in 4 years for President. - Soulhuntre from twhirl
Sarah Palin is the Eliza Doolittle of our time. Tina Fey said something similar to what I've been saying, as Sarah Palin she said, "I'm going to be the white Oprah. I'm not going back to Alaska". I think she's going to have a big TV contract somewhere. Hopefully she will at least get out of the government - Cathleen Rittereiser
I doubt she has a real chance at running in 2012. A second chance at the big ticket just doesn't happen often. Maybe Senator from Alaska. - Eric @ CSTechcast.com
in 4 years the GOP will recenter itself *away* from the "extreme right" to the more moderate right. at which point she won't stand a chance. - Jeremy Toeman
Agree with Jeremy. I honestly hope that the GOP moves back to the center away from rapture-obsessed theocrats. - Rob Haas
Jeremy: will that be the lesson they learn, or will it be that they need someone smarter? Of course, me and you correlate smartness with not being hyper religious, but most Americans don't look at the world that way. - Robert Scoble

Interesting to see people's reactions to Obama advertisement. Many say it is over the top awesome (I agree). Others are saying very boring.
I think it's funny to see people get emotional over a politician, especially a scumbag Chicago one. They don't care about you, and 0bama is no different. - Spencer
It is supposed to be boring, people had enough excitement and frothing-at-the-mouth campaigning, and emo-guys leading the country - they want someone calm, thoughtful and....boring! - Bora Zivkovic
I basically think it was for those who were undecided. It was basically just a list of things from Obama. Though I have to say. When it comes to production, Obama's campaign has just produced so many polished things. The level of production has just been way up there. I will be interested to see the ratings though lol Highest rated infomercial ever! - Dean Clark
They just seem absolutely ridiculous to me. People CRYING over an infomercial. Seriously, why would I want to watch an additional 30 minutes of campaign talk more than I already have? - Zach Flauaus
I think he nailed it. It's not over until it's over but I simply can't see how he loses at this point. Glad I had my kids watch this with me - Kevin C. Tofel
Some people get inspired in different ways, and connect emotionally to different and in different ways. nothing wrong with that. - Johan
The funniest thing is the WIIFM reactions. This was produced for a targeted audience of undecideds. - Graham English
At this point, it's the math. And the math is very, very weird this go round. One thing many politicos agree on is that the polling data could be very off given so many unknowns (youth vote, african american vote, new vote) This type of election that has not been modeled and tested properly before. WP-http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn... - Andrew Leyden
Obama has long ago proven he's brilliant when he's scripted. And...well...not brilliant...when he isn't. Sorry, but the presidency doesn't come with a script. Obama is like the person who seems perfect when you hire him on Friday, but come Monday morning, that's not the guy who shows up to work. I predict he will have a disasterous presidency, worse than Jimmy Carter. I hope I'm wrong. - Dawn
It did it's job in delivering his message. Those who don't like him will poo poo it. Those who were already going to vote for him may find it boring. This was for undecideds who are being hammered daily with smear after smear on Obama. He got his message out on his terms. I think it will help his cause. - Rolf Schewe
polls show that mccain evening out the lead, a lot are down to two or three points - Jonathan Jesse
and those polls are investor weekly, zogby and rasmussen - Jonathan Jesse
The average 'inaccuracy' of the 2004 polls was about 2-3% (depending on how you measure it). The average over the last 50 years is closer to 4% or so. http://stolenthunder.blogspot.com/2004... - Andrew Leyden
Dawn: He can't be as bad off script as McCain: "that one" or Palin: "I read all the news, all of them". And I disagree, the presidency absolutely does come with a script, haven't you been watching the show the last 8 years? - Will Higgins™
Nearly perfect. There is absolutely no way that McCain could come even close to matching it. He is already many people's favorite president. Now Americans need to rise to his standard. Over the top awesome indeed... - david beckwith
Uggh, so sorry I missed it! Maybe it will be rebroadcast. - jcunwired
Dawn, no offense, but I'll go with Powell's (and many other prominent republicans, not to mention the endorsement of countless democrats) enthusiasm over your pessimism. - jcunwired
@Dawn way to quote Guiliani! Was that scripted too? - Jeremy Toeman
Joe: If the President were a just a figure head and spokesperson, I'd be enthusiastic, too. But considering Obama's only real experience for the job is what he's learned running for the job, I think that makes me more of a realist than a pessimist. He couldn't get hired as CEO of any company of size in this country and you know it, but he's being elected CEO of this huge nation when,... more... - Dawn
Jeremy, I have no idea what you're talking about. I haven't seen Guiliani in months. - Dawn
"He couldn't get hired as CEO of any company of size in this country and you know it, but he's being elected CEO of this huge nation when" - really? how do you know that? what's your evidence? oh, ya, as usual, you don't have any, you just spew typical right-wing commentary without giving it a second thought - Jeremy Toeman
The problem with the Zogby poll is that he uses the exact voter percentages that showed up in 2004 as his likely voter model. And Investors Business Daily is showing that 70% of the youth are going towards McCain, so judge it's validity accordingly. I can't recommend enough reading the fivethirtyeight.com for poll analysis. It's really detailed and good. The state polls say Obama is killing it. - Andrew
Dawn, if this country were in a strong healthy state we wouldn't NEED Obama. It's precisely because we're in such a bad state that he even has the opportunity to get elected. The previous administration and its party has failed miserably and proven they can't handle the job. Time to give someone else a chance. Is it a toss up as to whether we'll start heading in the right direction? Yeah, but some chance of making things right is better than the alternative of keeping going in the wrong direction. - Fa La La La Lindsay
Dawn, I asked before and you didn't answer. What, specifically, is McCain's real experience for the job of president? For bonus points, point out how a McCain presidency would be less erratic than a McCain campaign. - jcunwired
Dawn: Businesspeople and Politicians are different sorts. You have to realize that a Public servant such as Obama has dedicated his career to representing his constituents and performing the duties which have been assigned to him in his role as Senator, as opposed to building a business. While Obama may not have the business experience to be hired as a CEO, that's got nothing to do with being President. If you want a CEO type leader, you should go vote for Mitt Romney. - Will Higgins™
I also think it's kind of ironic that Republicans are so concerned about experience when their V.P. candidate has absolutely none! If experience was truly a major concern, wouldn't it make more sense to chose a running mate that has some? You know, to add credibility, both to them and their arguments? Obviously credibility isn't a major concern for the GOP. - Will Higgins™
@will i continue to be perplexed by that argument - setting aside the question of whether palin or obama are or are not qualified - it strikes me as logically odd to say that if a VP is not qualified for the presidency that automatically eradicates the need to determine if the opponent's candidate for PRESIDENT is or isn't qualified. so if party A nominates a 6 year old for president the fact that party B nominated a small town mayor for VP negates the need for party A to justify their pick's qualifcations? - Marco(aureliusmaximus)
I thought it was very compelling and very moving. - Jeff P. Henderson
@Dawn, your description of Obama sounds more befitting of Palin. - Jeff P. Henderson
The AP didn't seem to like it very much. - Aram Zucker-Scharff from twhirl
@Marco - the problem is that not only is Palin not qualified, she's also downright terrifying. And the chance of her becoming president in McCain's term is unfortunately a good bit higher than not since McCain is old and has health problems. It's vitally important that she is qualified to be President. To many people Obama has proved that he is qualified, but there's a much smaller number that believe Palin is. - Fa La La La Lindsay
very much understand the sentiment - was trying to construct it in a way that was completely neutral and avoided the palin/obama-specific qualification discussion because different people obviously believe different things with regards to that - regardless of what % more likely it is that palin may become vp if mccain wins on a purely logical level the fact remains that the argument has been made that the credibility of the questions about obama's qualifications negate the need for that question to be... - Marco(aureliusmaximus)
...answered because of the selection of Palin to be VP - its an assertion that i have heard time and again and it just doesnt stand up logically to me - i would rather people say "palin is frighteningly unqualified for these reason and even if she was qualified obama is still a better choice than mccain for these reasons" instead of trying to go for the dig on "Republicans" - Marco(aureliusmaximus)
Dawn+1 amazing how FF can gang up against any negative comments about Obama. It's puts a bad face on the party that's supposed to be for civil rights and makes you wonder if intolerence will lead to a splintering of communities like FF into right and left just like Fox and Msnbc. - Alex Nesbitt
@Alex no, its the *type* of negativity. thinking his tax plan has issues is fine. claiming he'll probably be the worst president since Carter is simply baiting for a fight. and unlike mainstream media, here the people who won't tolerate such pettiness choose to voice our opinion. and by the way, your little word trick of linking "civil rights" and "intolerance" to people who don't want to hear this kind of BS is a very cheap shot. - Jeremy Toeman
Alex Nesbitt -- Yes, Robert claimed the other day that he likes it when people disagree with him and he's claimed that it's not okay to call people "unAmerican" for having different opinions, but he's called Dawn "an idiot" and blocked her for daring to question Obama's qualifications. That says a lot about what kind guy Robert Scoble really is. Look at what he does not what he says. - theNoseKnows
Alex and Bishop I haven't blocked you guys and you obviously don't agree with me. - Robert Scoble
Then maybe you're just being sexist. I don't see anything that Dawn said that justifies calling her an idiot much less blocking her. - theNoseKnows
Bishop: Dawn earned her block over time. I am going to block you next if you try the sexist line again. Update: I blocked Bishop. - Robert Scoble
I don't know anything about Robert's.issue with Dawn and he can follow/block whomever he likes. My observation is that when some dares to challenge Obama's qualifications they face the wrath of ff community. It feels like it will drive dissenting pov out of the community. BTW I voted for Obama in the primaries and I have serious concerns about the guy and his policies. - Alex Nesbitt
I'm just shocked, as I was during the convention and debates, that Obama can use the same generic Democratic message as Gore and Kerry, but somehow it's winning this campaign. The country just had to fall so much further for the D message to gain relevance? http://friendfeed.com/e... - Christopher Galtenberg
Alex the bug in your thinking is that there is one community here. Everyone creates their own community. I only want to see smart people in my community. That has nothing to do with whether you are a Republican or not. - Robert Scoble
Robert, I agree for most of the discussion on FF, but for the Obama v. McCain issue there is overwhelming support on FF for Obama. His room has 324 people vs only 42 for McCain. That's not a bad thing, but it does weight the discussion throughout the site. I think it's driving some good discussions and maybe people out of FF. I don't need to be in an echo chamber for my own party. - Alex Nesbitt
@Alex unfortunately it seems that most of the "vocal" McCain supporters on FF tend to use the campaign-like smear attacks as their form of "discussion". very few conversations seem to have straight-forward, levelheaded talk (vs "he pals around with terrorists" or "not enough experience to be a CEO")... i dont think you'd see as much "ganging up" if the McCain supporters took less offensive approaches... - Jeremy Toeman

@Ed_Dale I teach my grade 3s that 'their' has the word 'heir' in it, so it means people, and 'there' has 'here' in it so it's about a place.

i thought about Biden's history on this issue when he was first picked. i had expected to hear more about it throughout the campaign. nice to see it now, tho. - MikeAmundsen
he wasn't just well versed on the legislation, he really was passionate. and to make that come through on a conference call is really something else - Erin @queenofspain
I loves me some Joe Biden. If he could keep his foot out of his mouth he would have been President by now. - Jason Carreira
It was my first interaction with him, and he impressed the hell out of me - Erin @queenofspain

My Mom is on the phone swearing because her Obama signs were stolen. She never swears.
That totally sucks. Your mom worked really hard for those signs. - Cyndy
that's just mean, man. - MikeAmundsen
Why on earth would peeps steal political signs? That's pathetic, especially after all the hard work your Mom put into it. - Sally Church
In the burbs in Chicago, people were getting death threads for having Obama signs - Outsanity
I have an Obama sign in my yard. My neighbor has two for McCain! I need another sign... - Rebecca Briggs
Yeah, it wouldn't be such a big deal if they weren't her 'reward' for canvassing more houses than anyone else - Erin @queenofspain

@Ed_Dale ... I disagree... always good to get a perspective
Your a poo-poo head - Ed Dale
Seriously - trouble is people focus on it rather than whats the next bit of FAB content I'm going to deliver to my peeps - Ed Dale
Ed, you mention providing great content to your audience... a tool like qwitter can help you see what your audience does and does not like, no? - Chris Abernethy from twhirl
Do you want to be Steve Jobs or focus group driven? - Ed Dale
Hehe. Do you really believe that Steve Jobs is not focus group driven? :) - Chris Abernethy from twhirl
I know it for a fact - Ed Dale
I agree, Sony was the same in the early days, nobody was asking for a walkman - Stuart Fraser
The ipod was launched to universal ridicule - Ed Dale
Wow. That's hard to fathom given it's success, but I defer to your experience. I guess that there are two opposing viewpoints here... one is to cater to your existing audience and the other is to keep posting what you think is awesome and allow your audience to morph. Both seem like they could be valid, as long as you strike a good balance. - Chris Abernethy from twhirl
Trying not to offend is not the way to build audience. People want a poin of view - As Gary Halbert would say - they can love you or hate you - both are good (PR Wise) but ambivalence is death - Ed Dale
I think balance is key. Can't keep on with something that after lots of feedback no-one wants, the key is don't get scared of putting something out there if you don't have the focus group's go ahead. I could be what they want, they just didn't know it - Stuart Fraser
It depends what you are doing - im all for testing the heck out of a market and seeing what they want - but when your doing social networking - your opinion matters. - Ed Dale
Ed, I wasn't suggesting so much that you should attempt not to offend, I totally agree that you can't please all of the people all of the time. I was suggesting more along the lines of keeping the interest of your followers by continuing to post items that are in the same vein as what got them there in the first place. I suppose that if you have always just been posting what you believe is awesome, continuing to do so would be the right answer... it appears we are in agreement :) - Chris Abernethy from twhirl
true - isn't sool that we could have the discussion here - fully searchable, it will stay around for others AND did not annoy the hell out of twitter followers who were not interested!!! - Ed Dale
You don't have to let anyone tell you to be a fireman, when you want to be a doctor. But when your medical site visitors scream for a forum with blue polka dots, why not? http://www.micropersuasion.com/2008... - Ed Shahzade /NextInstinct
