Great blog post from @dancedivam about yesterday's study committee meeting: http://dancedivam.blogspot.com/2009... #tnwinesales
@GoldnI That's a good second mission! Wine in Bellevue would be so convenient.
Tennessean blog post about this morning's study session: http://blogs.tennessean.com/politic...
@GoldnI The bill intro'd last year would permit retail food stores to sell wine only in areas that allow liquor stores
@GoldnI So if the GSD doesn't allow liquor stores, grocery stores wouldn't be allowed to sell wine either (as bill is written today).
Ha! RT @chriswilliams2: If auto was intro'd 2day, would be opposed by Nat'l Assoc. of Buggywhip and Horseshoe Mfrs. #tnwinesales
RT @nitweet What will it take for TN legislators to allow wine sales in stores? I'd like to share your tweets on our 5pm newscast @WKRN
@paevents Good point--if they think the "product" is so dangerous, why do they sell it?
@cathedralheat Part of it is that it's easier to say no than to make a change. Consumer support will be the driving force.
Sen. Ketron: We'll have more meetings. This is very important. We represent the people of TN and listen to our constituents. #tnwinesales
Chip: It's an emotional thing with us. Owners come up to me and say they put everything into this biz and don't want to change #tnwinesales
Chip: Liquor store owners have driven from across the state to be here today. #tnwinesales
Chip: This bill is bad for many and convenient for only a few #tnwinesales // What's def. of a few? 62% of Tennesseans?
@Bebopalicious Ha, send us the list when you're done.
Sen. Ketron: Current laws encourage you to go around the law. Liq. store owners have a wife, relative open another store #tnwinesales
Sen. Faulk: Public safety important. If we have more outlets, how do we ensure not more drunk drivers on road. Studies? #tnwinesales
@ElizabethElmore Wouldn't know, since I can't buy it in a grocery store here :). Have to check some other states. Road trip?
Chip: Wine is not food. Wine is not beer. That's why it's restricted to liquor stores. Wine is a high-proof alcohol product. #tnwinesales
Chip: You tweak one thing, and it has unintended consequences somewhere else. #tnwinesales
Chip: RWF campaign not based on consumer support #tnwinesales // Any of you care to disagree?
Chip: Markups in our industry date back to fair trade. Not the case today. Can't compare our margins to grocers'. #tnwinesales
Chip: Wine comes in pints--can fit in pocket and walk out. #tnwinesales
@betheats Thank you, glad you agree! Can 20,000 Tennesseans be wrong?
The legislators are starting to talk about some other liquor laws now, so I'll wrap this up. Thanks to everyone who RT'd and responded.
