The cities–Bogota, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Copenhagen, Delhi, Hong Kong, Houston, London, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Toronto, Sao Paulo, Seoul and Sydney–have come together to form the ‘C40 Electric Vehicle Network’ and collectively will work in four areas of municipal action that they see as critical to the successful introduction of electric vehicles:

It took 48 years to grow from 2,300 vehicles in 1949 to one million in 1997; the second million took 6.5 years; the third took 3 years and nine months; the fourth million is coming after 2 years and 7 months.

Boom! That’s the sound of another round being fired in the electric vehicle war, and it’s a big one: BMW is getting in on the action in a big way. The Germans are rolling into the Detroit auto show next month with the slick Concept ActiveE and hinting it might see production. It looks mighty close to being showroom-ready as it is.

TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces the introduction of the "Prius Plug-in Hybrid", a plug-in version of the third-generation "Prius" gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle, into key markets. Approximately 600 units will be introduced in Japan, the United States, and Europe over the first half of 2010, for use by governments and businesses. TMC will analyze feedback regarding the Prius Plug-in Hybrid, with an aim to begin sales in the tens of thousands of units to the general public in two years.

"Japanese automaker Nissan’s CEO Carlos Ghosn said that consumer demand for electric vehicles in the US might exceed President Obama’s target of one million plug-in models by 2015. Speaking his mind, Mr. Ghosn said, “There is absolutely no reason that you will not have much more than 1 million cars in the U.S. before 2015.”"

"Toshiba, like most other battery manufacturers, has decided that the market for automotive grade lithium ion cells is going to be huge in the next decade. As a result it has decided to build a second factory dedicated to automotive battery production in Kashiwazaki, Japan. The new 355,000-square foot plant will cost about $274 million and construction is expected to start in April of next year with production scheduled to start about one year after that. "

"Demand for vanadium, which Evraz produces in South Africa and the U.S., will probably grow faster than steel as emerging economies buy more of the steel additive, Tatyanin said Oct. 28 in Moscow, where the company is based. "

Reed and Kingsrose have agreed to terminate the Production Joint Venture effective June 1, 2010. Reed will be entitled to 100% of production from June 1, 2010. Reed will pay Kingsrose A$1M in cash and A$2M in shares. Reed will also aquire the associated mining assets and infrastructure for A$1M cash. This will allow Reed to expand production from the underground operations as well as to potentially exploit shallow open-pit resources. Read more: http://www.reedresources.com/announc...

"THE long night is almost over for steelmaking, which will enjoy a strong recovery in 2010, the World Steel Association has predicted. Exceptionally strong consumption in China means that demand for the steel output of the world's mills will rise by 9.2 per cent next year, a recovery to 2008 levels, the association said. "

"One of the things that has nothing to do with the cell or any technology itself, is at the end of life if the battery still has 70 to 75% of its power and energy left. Why throw it away when you can recapture it? If you could capture that residual value by effectively leasing the battery and putting it to work again in a utility application, at 50% of its initial value, it will cut the effective cost by a factor of two."

"Industry experts may disagree but Hykawy feels much of the 30-40,000 tons of additional demand we have seen for lithium since 2000 has been unexpected and largely as a result of this unseen shift by manufacturers to integral Li-ion batteries. Lithium consumption in electric car batteries hasn’t figured yet on the demand curve as early hybrids like the Prius have largely relied on NiMH."

it is due to the zoom setting set by picasa. Because the map location is in the middle of the bush with no marked roads, there aren't any details on the map other than the place marker. It would be better if we could set the zoom further out - but doesn't appear to be possible.
