Ciaoenrico I kinda take offense to that. My avatar is me, it's my face and I shared it on FF after a LOT of thought about it (plus some gender confusion, but that's another story). Because a woman might be considered attractive she *shouldn't* user her face as an avatar otherwise she's just trying to get followers? Bull crap, and sexist to boot.

I don't think it's a problem pointing out your crushes, hun. I think it's the fact that it's titled "The Hotties of FriendFeed" that can make people kind of uncomfy. That comes across as a direct judgment of peoples' looks, even though we know you didn't mean it that way.

Derrick - But a lot of the stuff you post to the really gay room is pretty meat market-ish. Just because they're professional models it's okay to objectify them? We naturally objectify each other because we naturally are sexual creatures. Mattie, any pics I post in the Really Gay Room are A) *in* the Really Gay Room, and B) pictures culled from sites that are meat-marketish to begin with. I would never post pics of Scoble or Louis Gray and say, "oh these are guys I'd like to see naked". And I'm not knocking Sean. I freakin' love Sean. But I also know that there are women on the list who've worked hard at getting to where they are in life and in their careers and to be thought of as a pin-up on FF isn't their bag.

I don't see how posting this in a room would make it any different a situation, Derrick. I don't think that Sean ever said he wanted to see any of the women on the list naked. Is that something I skipped over while scanning the comments? If he said that, then yes. This list is pretty lame. But being admired for your beauty isn't bad. Especially since (for me at least) being a hottie entails being incredibly intelligent and engaging.

Amanda - I don't think not being on the list deems you unattractive and I don't think Haggis is the be all end all of who is or is not attractive. Wow. I'm on the list. BFD. I don't feel or bubbly inside, nor did I take it very seriously. I think what Brandy is asking is if she can see someone else's list, which we can't. Haggis might have made a list that is friendfeed.com/list/hotties and he'll see it when he's logged in, but no one else would see it if they went to that same URL. He wouldn't even see it if he logged out and went to that URL.

If you want to import your Facebook status, you must have "Allow friends to subscribe to my status" checked on the "Status Updates" custom privacy setting at http://www.facebook.com/login.... This is the default, but a few people have customized it away.

I think that's fine JA. They key is to have the "Allow friends to subscribe to my status" checkbox checked (the one right above the red bar in the second screenshot). That dialog appears when you select "Customize..." from the "Status Updates" pulldown on the first screenshot.

Kol is correct, Facebook has changed their interface since these instructions were posted. Unfortunately, they seem to have eliminated the "Status Updates" RSS feed entirely. If you can find it, let me know.

The feed itself can't be gone - people who added it to FriendFeed before Facebook's UI changed are still having updates pulled in here. But as far as finding it now to add it...I've been unsuccessful. And modifying the URL of a working feed doesn't seem to work, either.

Yes, the RSS feeds still exist at some level, but the UI for discovering their secret urls seems to have been removed.

This is great advice on getting a Friendfeed realtime feed in a sidebar. I've just tried installing the All In One sidebar on Flock 2.5, resulting in an error. On Firefox 3.0.11, it works great! I guess it makes sense to run Twitter in my Flock people sidebar, and Friendfeed realtime in my Firefox All In One sidebar.

Paul is the man, but most of the time, most people won't be able to keep up with real time in my opinion _if_ that real time includes everyone's everything. Filtering and searching to let me get my realtime on topics I want, in an easy-to-digest way, easier than IRC and with ways to grab something out of the stream for pondering or commenting later. (IRC's not hard, but you have to admit it's rather geeky.)

In fact, asynchrony lets people take their time and contribute more substantial things, whereas real-time is exclusively chatty. It's going to be more talk, less links and less text overall.

I like some of the new FF features, the live view is not one of them. Why? I like the pause function to allow me to browse over my news feeds without getting them live dearranged while I am still not through. Would FriendFeed Wave extensions (Wave gadgets and robots) be sufficient to stay in the game? Is FriendFeed experimenting with Wave APIs? I hope it is.

Holy Moley Guacamole. It's time for the monthly Compete.com FriendFeed vs. Twitter Post. For the month of March Twitter knocked the cover of the ball with an eye popping 76.8% monthly growth rate. FriendFeed grew as well, but far less at 5.7%. I suspect that with the new FF beta though that FriendFeed may pick up some ground in April. thanks for the reminder Atul! :)

Twitter is definitely hitting the mainstream. All the TV talk, the celebrities, etc. It's hard to go anywhere in mainstream culture today without hearing about it. I do thing next months growth rates will be interesting. I suspect that FF very well may have a higher growth rate than Twitter next month given the new beta.

Not convinced about Friendfeed growth, but in my 15 minutes of current experience I like. You hit the nail on the head re Twitter media coverage, and I think that's why Twitter is going to keep growing for a while longer /outside the US/. Example: A few minutes Newsnight in the UK just linked up with a BBC Radio 5 radio show. The radio show has been taking comments via Twitter for tonight's cancer awareness special. In my UK based experience, Friendfeed is something you hear about via Leo Laporte... :-)

I'm with Alex. I try to leave stuff alone so that people get a chance to talk, but I usually end up smothering the discussion because I can't shut up long enough. I think this is actually a good technique to keep the convo going and involve new people, though.

My only complaint so far about FF is that it's difficult to find friends who aren't solely interested in social media, startups, and interwebby-techiness. When I find someone on FF who actually posts about a VARIETY of topics rather than just the latest news on Twitter/FriendFeed/Facebook/etc, I'll usually subscribe to their feed outright.

I guess I experienced this emotion 6 months ago. I was spending 4 hrs or more per day on FF and without me even knowing that stopped happening. Because a lot of value of FF was overlapping with google reader, blogs, twitter, FB etc. I just went back to splitting my time between those services. It seems like to me that humans want separate spaces to experience / participate in fundamentally different things. Hence there is not much "natural or un-conscious" value of bringing every thing at one place..

Great conversation here. I've been a FF user a while however; I've only recently been using more and more. FB got to a point of annoyance for me with all the stuff people send you. I'm finding more engaged conversation here on FF and Twitter yet, FF is much easier to track conversation thread. True it is more difficult to find people on FF but, I think I will reach out to everyone on this thread but, it would be nice to have the capability to create "interest tags" & FF recommend people.

Friendfeed needs to begin working on recommendative filtering. Interestingness is only the first step (best of day etc). The work that the folks at flexpore are doing with the Flickr API is what I'd be looking at. What/who you like/comment and how can they analyze who likes/comment on similar items and how they can better filter their simple interestingness/best of day algorithm better for you personally. Enough content is here now. It's all about better finding it next -- well, that and search.

My time on FriendFeed is still robust, but more focused. I spend a lot more time on my professionally-oriented List ("Enterprise 2.0"). So often I'll miss the memes that happen during the day. The funny thing is that those e2.0 folks don't spend a lot of time interacting here, so it can be a bit one-sided. But as a tracking tool, I'm getting more value than ever from FriendFeed.
