First of all, I'll cop to wanting one of these. That being said, Jason is right. This is for rich hippies (who probably aren't hippies at all). The VW microbus became the darling of the Flower Power crowd because it was cheap, easy to repair, and big. You could camp in it. Is there a car today that fits this bill?

@Chris, Most cars today aren't as simple, but with the wealth of knowledge online, it just takes more time. The minivan/SUV can become a camper van with a few mods. They'll never take the place of the VW, but they're an updated version of the 70s panelvan conversions (hopefully without shag carpeting & a disco-ball).

Attorney Joe Sibley said that his client was shocked at fine, noting that the price tag on the songs she downloaded was 99 cents. She plans to appeal, he said. Cara Duckworth, a spokeswoman for the Recording Industry Association of America, said the RIIA was "pleased that the jury agreed with the evidence and found the defendant liable." It's publicity and the labels think it's a lesson for others. In a sense it's advertising, $1.9mil is sacrificed (I agree, Chris, she can't pay this) for negative publicity. The labels don't give a damn that in their quest to make an example of this poor woman they are financially ruining a human being unnecessarily and unreasonably. This is when justice becomes a bully.

There is something not quite right about the reporting of this case. On the one hand she is accused " of illegally sharing 24 songs from artists including Sheryl Crow and Green Day.". On the other she is accused "of uploading 1,700 songs to the Kazaa file-sharing site before it became a legal service." Would the honourable gentlemen of the press please find out which of these heinous crimes the obscene fine is attributed to and report back. Thank you.

I read this story and was floored that a jury was dumb enough to award this. I guess suing and winning more than $1 million decision from divorced women with 4 kids is what the RIAA wants to be known for. I guess that's good PR for them? Among some male age groups the behavior was as high as 50%. yep...me too. i tend to think cable providers would be in real trouble if advertisers accounted for how may eyeballs were only 1/2 watching their TVs. @ryo of course, the problem is with determining that it really was you that clicked the link. Unsecured wifi access points or guests using theirs/your system at your house muddy this. Then we have the issue of IP addresses being falsifyable what with IP spoofing. An IP address alone shouldn't be used to prosecute you.

Bret, this is far better, thank you. I love that we can see the short URL (this could really to with being on the share box and the bookmarklet as well as the embed code. The quick links are very useful too. But it's still just a link to the post not actually opening the post up to new feeds (i.e. with sync'ed comments and likes). Would this be possible please?

In fact you could combine this new share dialog box with edit post options and we could edit/add/remove the images, the link(s), the title and the feeds the post (the ability to remove from existing feeds and add to new feeds).

I have a bit of a problem, at my resolution of 1366x768, if there's a photo in the re-share I can't see the "quick links" section at the bottom, and there's no way of scrolling this screen.

Masha, click the Share link, when the box pops up, click the X to remove "My Feed" if that is not where you want to put the item. Enter the first letter of the group you want to send the item to and you'll see all the groups that you belong to that begin with that letter. Find the group you want and click on it.

this is frustrating. More specifically...the retweeting is frustrating. We need to be able to retweet without a (via http://ff.im/2lx3d) at the end and the urls need to be shortened if we're resharing a link from friendfeed. This is driving me bonkers.

Zee: thanks for the feedback. To clarify, is the fact we prepopulate the textbox with (via ...) what is bothering you? You can delete that text. Or am I misunderstanding? Good point about making the username of the person who shared it more prominent.

I don't get any email options @beta.ff – Safari 3.2.1 on OSX 10.5.6. While I'm at it however, please consider making this Share dialog a little more compact. I read FF at 24p font size (tired eyes), and this dialog doesn't fit on my 13.3" (800px vertical) laptop's screen.
