"The Volkswagen Microbus is a classic - even to those of us born after its time. Arguably unlike the newly remade Beetle, this remake of a VW classic is remarkably true to the original on the outside - but on the inside it is a bio-diesel hybrid stuffed full of high tech gadgetry and eco-friendly innovations." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet

sounds awesome. live the hippie dream, only it probably costs about $50,000 or something. - Thomas Hawk

Not a fan. Then again, didn't like the original ;) - Mo Kargas
Afraid not Thomas, $129,000 - Steven Cains
Super cool VW Bus making a comeback... - Walt Ruppar
First of all, I'll cop to wanting one of these. That being said, Jason is right. This is for rich hippies (who probably aren't hippies at all). The VW microbus became the darling of the Flower Power crowd because it was cheap, easy to repair, and big. You could camp in it. Is there a car today that fits this bill? - Chris Baskind
wow, you can buy an awful lot of pot with $129,000. - Thomas Hawk
I don't know a self-respecting hippie that would prefer this over a really nice indoor greenhouse. ;-) - Chris Baskind
@Chris, Most cars today aren't as simple, but with the wealth of knowledge online, it just takes more time. The minivan/SUV can become a camper van with a few mods. They'll never take the place of the VW, but they're an updated version of the 70s panelvan conversions (hopefully without shag carpeting & a disco-ball). - Steven Cains
Nope: there will never be anything that simple again. That's not all bad: I can't imagine a 1960s VW Minibus would satisfy *any* federal safety standard these days. You're right. A used minivan might be the closest thing. - Chris Baskind
Very Cool. You can't drive your house but, you can sleep in your Van !!! - Eric Logan

Very intriguing. How much steel is in that thing? Chris, that would be my next question after fuel consumption: how safe is this thing? And I agree, when we can go back to making transportation that costs less than a small home, we may have achieved something amazing. ;) - Melanie Reed
However, I have heard (and I'm not remembering where at the moment) that there has been a movement growing of people seeking alternative housing and substituting things like this as the new "mobile" home. - Melanie Reed

So after reading this article yesterday, I found myself this evening in front of a local place that specializes in reconditioning old VWs. It was closed, but there's an awesome red and white microbus out front with a For Sale sign on it. Ugly, underpowered -- and probably dangerous, by modern standards. Want. ;-) - Chris Baskind

Woman illegally downloads 24 songs, fined to tune of $1.9 million - CNN.com - http://www.cnn.com/2009...
(CNN) -- A federal jury Thursday found a 32-year-old Minnesota woman guilty of illegally downloading music from the Internet and fined her $80,000 each -- a total of $1.9 million -- for 24 songs. Illegal downloads of musical files will cost a Minnesota woman $1.9 million, a jury has decided. Jammie Thomas-Rasset's case was the first such copyright infringement case to go to trial in the United States, her attorney said. Attorney Joe Sibley said that his client was shocked at fine, noting that the price tag on the songs she downloaded was 99 cents. She plans to appeal, he said. Cara Duckworth, a spokeswoman for the Recording Industry Association of America, said the RIIA was "pleased that the jury agreed with the evidence and found the defendant liable." "We appreciate the jury's service and that they take this as seriously as we do," she said. Thomas-Rasset downloaded work by artists such as No Doubt, Linkin Park, Gloria Estefan and Sheryl Crow. Don't Miss Steven Van Zandt on - Leo Laporte
Dumbfounded this is still happening. - Eric @ CSTechcast.com
I cannot believe I live in the state that has idiots large enough to think that this woman has a chance to be able to pay what they are asking.... - Chris Ames
oh come on, let the poor woman off the hook, sure its illegal, but dont charge her with $1.9M, give her a slap on the wrist and tell her not to do it again. and this is for 24 songs? heck, why dont they go after the people who are downloading full length HD movies and who have thousands of songs downloaded, those are the people who should be fined or jailed, not a woman who downloaded only 24 songs. - Bryce Campbell
Really?!?! - David Cook
It's publicity and the labels think it's a lesson for others. In a sense it's advertising, $1.9mil is sacrificed (I agree, Chris, she can't pay this) for negative publicity. The labels don't give a damn that in their quest to make an example of this poor woman they are financially ruining a human being unnecessarily and unreasonably. This is when justice becomes a bully. - Jack (a.k.a. Jeber)
Sadly the jury is the one that thought that $80k a song was a valid price to pay. - Chris Ames
$80k/song! Pure lunacy. How could the judge even say her fine with a straight face? - Shane
...and this will further alienate music consumers. RIAA continues to remain out of touch. - jbrotherlove
Is this women rich? So, they decided to fine her 80,808 times for one song and for all 24 a total of 1,939,393.94 times the worth of the songs. Wow, it's bigger business in making money from taking people to court. - Academic PCs
It must be the depression that we are in - Academic PCs
I'd love to see the artists of the songs she downloaded to pull together the fine for her as say 'screw you' to the label companies. Of course, that will never happen, but would be fun to read. - Jess
When it comes to stories like this, the "Like" feature of FF doesn't come across the right way. - G. Sigh
Yea add to it that at the 99cents itunes business model it would mean to lose that much that those songs would have to have been downloaded from her PC almost 2 million times. - Chris Ames
As the original 2007 verdict was judged to be "wholly disproportionate" and "oppressive" this verdict is most likely to be judge "insane". - visibleprocrastinations

did she download from various sites on the internet or just from one? - Jannifer @wordsforliving
Doh... there's no way! How did they come up with 1.9 million? - Torp
The US legalsystem never stops to amaze me, how much would the fine be for a plain robery? It just don't make any sense! - Björn Fritz from Nambu
Is it possible to do the payment the piratebayway? Via micropaymemts that end up costing more for the recepient in fees, now wouldn't that be fun ;) - Björn Fritz from Nambu
It's hardly imagined in P.R.China! - BrianQin
Unbelievable. 80K per song? Where in the hell did they come up with THAT figure? - Alex Hellstrom
There is something not quite right about the reporting of this case. On the one hand she is accused " of illegally sharing 24 songs from artists including Sheryl Crow and Green Day.". On the other she is accused "of uploading 1,700 songs to the Kazaa file-sharing site before it became a legal service." Would the honourable gentlemen of the press please find out which of these heinous crimes the obscene fine is attributed to and report back. Thank you. - Gilbert Harding
And what would the RIAA do if everyone with an Internet connection started "pirating" music? Are they going to file a class-action lawsuit against the consumers? RIAA vs. the People. That's rich. Just another bunch of hoodlums in suits, that's all. I say micropayment them into bankruptcy. - John Fox
This sort of penalty is crazy, beyond belief. - Diego Barros 

[sarcasm] That'll teach people to not appeal or retry their cases![/sarcasm] - Barry Biddlecomb from twhirl
@Barry Biddlecomb Yes how dare she not tie up our court system fighting frivolous lawsuits brought on by filthy rich corporate sleaze that just can't ever get rich enough, ruled upon by high priced back pocket judges. - Nathan Mylott
I hear ya Barry. Its all about strategy with these guys (lawyers) and one has to see the truth in your sarcasm and that this became about 'the lesson'... - Eric
The RIAA are still suing people? Haven't they learned after years that it's bad for them? - Jeffrey Allan Boman
that is so ridiculous I can't even comment on this ... dang! - Susan Beebe
I read this story and was floored that a jury was dumb enough to award this. I guess suing and winning more than $1 million decision from divorced women with 4 kids is what the RIAA wants to be known for. I guess that's good PR for them? If I were the RIAA I'd want to keep stuff like this off the radar. This is only further advances the idea that the recording industry is in its death... more... - Lon Cohen
Why do I get the feeling that RIAA is kicking in agony? - andrei_c
Is the award of $80,000 per song constitutional? - Gil Francisco III
it´s crazy - marcos
It is totally crazy that they would fine her $80K per song - i can understand a fine but not destroying someone's life - it's like they are trying to punish one woman for millions of people's crime - it's not right. - Robert Freeze

Over 66 million consumers across demographic categories are using the Internet while camped out on their sofas watching TV, according to market research firm In-Stat http://www.in-stat.com. Based on In-Stat’s recent survey, 33% of all male respondents, across age groups, reported that they are sometimes using a personal computer simultaneously while watching TV. Among some male age groups the behavior was as high as 50%. In contrast, about 25% of female respondents reported using a PC while watching TV. “Consumer multitasking represents an important emerging opportunity for the TV industry” says Gerry Kaufhold, In-Stat analyst. “Local TV stations, TV networks, pay-TV networks, 24-hour news networks, sports leagues, and music channels, can instantly connect to some of their viewers, right now, on both the TV screen and on a laptop computer screen.” - Cee Bee

Bret, this is far better, thank you. I love that we can see the short URL (this could really to with being on the share box and the bookmarklet as well as the embed code. The quick links are very useful too. But it's still just a link to the post not actually opening the post up to new feeds (i.e. with sync'ed comments and likes). Would this be possible please? - Kol Tregaskes
What I'd like to see is the possibility to share the comments when you reshare it to another feed. - Brome
In fact you could combine this new share dialog box with edit post options and we could edit/add/remove the images, the link(s), the title and the feeds the post (the ability to remove from existing feeds and add to new feeds). - Kol Tregaskes
Brome, yep basically open the post to new feeds (or edit existing ones). - Kol Tregaskes
Really impressed and agree with Kol that this should be the standard dialog across all Shares - Joe Dawson

Rahul, I'm typing this comment in here: http://breakingnewsviafriendfe... to prove that yes the embed code is real-time. Now that is *excellent*!!! Shame it's in a window though. - Kol Tregaskes

Good point Kol. There is a problem when there are so many comments, tho. - Roberto Bonini
Roberto, yep but not sure this is possible. It would be nice though. :-) The new way to blog? ;-) - Kol Tregaskes
Maybe. But I was thinking of doing that watchlist of mine using the embeds. What do you think? - Roberto Bonini
And did you know this embed updates instantly???? - Roberto Bonini
Loving the new Share, thanks Bret. Would be cool if the Bookmarklet will have these options too. - Majento
very nice ... It would be even better if the frame was not visible. - Kevin Nordmand
Roberto, yep it's real-time. Yeah that watchlist would work, just create a private post on your site and add the embed code. A little fiddly though. - Kol Tregaskes
Bret, thanks. What about sharing via Gmail or email in general? - Damond Nollan
Now I want the 'edit' form upgraded with the same 'To:' field, so I can add crossposts after-the-fact. - Michael R. Bernstein
Everyone noticed the retweet icons down the bottom, didn't they? - Johnny Worthington
I have a bit of a problem, at my resolution of 1366x768, if there's a photo in the re-share I can't see the "quick links" section at the bottom, and there's no way of scrolling this screen. - Louis Simoneau
Great stuff but now I need this same functionality in the bookmarklet! - AJ Kohn
sweet! - .LAG liked that
Johnny, yep. :-) - Kol Tregaskes
ESC shortcut (+1 Waldemar) would be great! - Jeroen De Miranda
Wud be great & really easy if Mail Invitations link had option for importing & selecting email contacts...rather than typing/copy-paste. Any plans for this? - Roshan Ramachandran
perfect :) - Zafarali
I'm having the same problem Louis. Would be great if we could scroll the share window. - Sharon McPherson
cool - Adrian
Cool - even cooler if the bookmarklet could do the same! - Kevin Nordmand
I like it! Would be nice to update the bookmarklet too. And please keep the original comments added to a post. - TobiasVerhoog.com
Edit the bookmarklet to add "beta" to the address :) - Roberto Bonini
how should we choose the groups to share the item in? - Mahsa Z
Masha, click the Share link, when the box pops up, click the X to remove "My Feed" if that is not where you want to put the item. Enter the first letter of the group you want to send the item to and you'll see all the groups that you belong to that begin with that letter. Find the group you want and click on it. - Sharon McPherson
would be nice if you could just dropdown a list of groups, rather than having to type the first letter - Tommy Keene
You mean "FF should read our minds, one letter is one letter too many?" - ianf ⌘
The new share function is pretty awesome. - Andrew Trinh
Sharon, tnx. so we should memorize all groups' names! :-/ - Mahsa Z
Thanks. This is a great feature and makes sharing even easier :) - Nicholas James
I really like the new Share feature. I wish the "Like" feature had more control on how Likes get sent to Twitter. - Robert Scoble
I love this! Just discovered it today. - Brian Bufalo
this is frustrating. More specifically...the retweeting is frustrating. We need to be able to retweet without a (via http://ff.im/2lx3d) at the end and the urls need to be shortened if we're resharing a link from friendfeed. This is driving me bonkers. - Zee.
Roberto, thanks for the tip! - Michael R. Bernstein
and a RT is nothing without mentioning the name of the person we shared from - Zee.
Zee: thanks for the feedback. To clarify, is the fact we prepopulate the textbox with (via ...) what is bothering you? You can delete that text. Or am I misunderstanding? Good point about making the username of the person who shared it more prominent. - Bret Taylor
I was just clicking on the Share feature, thought it was new.. And it is! +1 to email, that's what I was looking for, sharing the FF entry via email for non-FF users! Promote awareness! :) - Chris Chua
how do I get this new/improved version? - Benin Brown from fftogo
Benin: it is available at http://beta.friendfeed.com/ - Bret Taylor
great! .. more power to you .. :] - Petr Buben
I don't get any email options @beta.ff – Safari 3.2.1 on OSX 10.5.6. While I'm at it however, please consider making this Share dialog a little more compact. I read FF at 24p font size (tired eyes), and this dialog doesn't fit on my 13.3" (800px vertical) laptop's screen. - ianf ⌘
This just makes friendfeed even more powerful. Love it. - Angus Neil

Amazon: "Kindle exceeded our most optimistic expectations"; beats Q1 estimates | Between the Lines | ZDNet.com - http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL...
The company surpassed analysts’ expectations for the first quarter, giving much of the credit to the re-launch of its e-book reader, the Kindle. For the quarter, Amazon said it had net income of $177 million, or 41 cents per share, on sales of $4.89 billion, exceeding Wall Street’s estimates of 31 cents per share on revenue of $4.76 billion. In January, the company had forecast first quarter revenue to be between $4.53 and $4.93 billion, though analysts had been expecting the high end of the range. (Statement) - Leo Laporte
I still wonder why they haven't gone international yet. I know licensing can be challenging, but Apple managed it with the music companies - David Angier

"Upgrading your Batman collection with comic books is one thing, but building your very own Batman Forever Batmobile is another. This fine example was hand built by sculptor Bob Causey and is actually drivable, believe it or not. Plus, it features a full-interior, retractable hard top, and three LCD displays." - Kol Tregaskes from Bookmarklet
