I take lots of pictures of my collector cars, recently my 5 year old asked me to take a picture of his toy cars so I asked him to put them all as close together as he could. Half hour later he called me in. - http://www.reddit.com/r...

ralmeida on Paris Marathon organizers laid out an 82-foot span of rubber tiles that took kinetic energy from footfalls and converted it into very small amounts of electricity. The tiles generated up to 8 watts with each step and with 40,000 runners it was enough to power screens and signs for the race. - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"Then the car will accelerate less than it would without the contraption, and if there's a upward slope the car will reach it at a lower velocity, requiring more fuel again. It would work if you want people to brake during the slope, instead of using all the acceleration freely. But then it's better to just push for hybrid cars, which generate electricity from braking."

"This reminds of an invention that would "generate energy for free": a guy wanted to install road platforms that generated electricity when cars passed over it; the weight of the cars would push the platform down, and a spring would bring it back to its place after the car had passed. Some one had the common sense of asking, "why not generate electricity by burning fuel then?", to which the guy replied, "no no no, this is *free* energy from the cars". :-P"
