IRS has Become a Subsidy System for Super-Wealthy Americans; Winks at Rich Deadbeats - http://www.commondreams.org/headlin...
Boy this is thick. Class warfare. Look - the uneducated and uninformed pay taxes. Smart people (super rich or not) put everything in corporations and do not have a personal income. Reason? Corporate taxes are less than income taxes. And practically, with our Internet markets, you could factually move everything offshore and live comfortably here in the US - without an income and the corporation paying all your expenses. It's doable. Practically, if this author spent more time figuring out how the whole tax system is rigged, he'd applaud the smart people who keep their tax dollars under their own control. - Robert Worstell

I love 30DC, Flock and Friend Feed but I don't get in here much now cos Flock keeps crashing and every time it does I lose my FF share button,FF space on igoogle home page and Blog This facility! getting really fed up here - any ideas? (I have reinstalled Flock many times, now working but limited...
I use Firefox - I gave up on Flock and its faults. Firefox is what Flock is built on apparently, and if there are any features from Flock you want to bring in, I'm sure there will be an Add on somewhere. - san
Thanks san-I know some challengers r still happy with Flock,so was I,but almost ready 2 give it up-trouble is,all that cool useful stuff ed advised us 2 get is on there.....might reinstall... - Inspired Writing Research
Using Firefox is the way to go. With all the tools,add-ons and free web services there are plenty ways "to connect" and do all the same things you did with Flock, sometimes even better. Rumor heard is Flock will be ceasing support and updates at some time. So you may want to get it happening with FireFox for that reason. :~) - Colossal Marketing™

Ceasing support? None was forthcoming back in November! It could have been a good tool, but the faults are too painful to work with. Good points made by Ron and Sheryl. I have noticed a marked improvement in my time spent actually working, rather than faffing about after changing! - san
I have switched back from Flock to Firefox too, for the same reasons, and have no regrets. Can't think of a single Flock feature that I actually miss. - Jen

I use Flock. And it's been great for me so far. But I might consider going back to Firefox, since it seems they're in the process of making a lot of upgrades... - Art Y.
Wow! I loved Firefox until I installed Flock! I'm still running XP SP2 - dunno if that makes a difference. Firefox reminds me of dial-up in comparison. The only Flock issue I have is that I can't read yahoo news pages - locks me up if I try. Did you guys follow the directions in one of the 30DC videos for optimizing Flock? May have been pre-season. not sure. - DaleK
FireFox should be tweaked using the (about:config) hacks. It will make a difference. Also *I* have FireFox set to clear the cache on exit, also helps. - Ron"micronet"Harwood from IM

If I go back to firefox can I export my favs list to it from flock?? - Elliot Webb
Yes, I did it, Flock was too slow for me - Haim Schlesinger
You can export your favs/bookmarks as a html file (from the organize fav) and then import as html into Firefox( from organize bookmarks). Exporting your bookmarks as a html file is also a good way to save them as a backup - Colossal Marketing™
I really like Flock definitely do the (about:config) hacks that 30DC recomends. However functions like web clip board, browser blogging, and others are real time savers - Deano @ Byron New Media
Thanks all - looking at Firefox - latest Flock problem is Flash 9 ! - Inspired Writing Research
Flock has been crap ever since day one of 30dc recommendation. I still use it because I really like many of the features. I may go back to FireFox myself. Tired of waiting for a version that does not crash and use so many resources. We Probably need to check out chrome..at first glance it seems to basic for my wants and needs. But wait wasn't there some news on Flock and Google Chrome platform recently? - Brian McClure
Another option is to use Firefox with plugins, plus something called Niche Browser for expanded search (based on IE). - Robert Worstell
I love Flock from day 1 to present. I have never had a single problem with it. I think Flock is great. Internet Explorer is crap. I never used Firefox, but I know it is better than IE. - Edward Kimble
I love Flock Inspired, and it's a crying shame you've had so many problems with it. I've never had a problem with Flock crashing on my pc but it does freeze if I use it much on my laptop. My pc has a lot more RAM than my laptop - my pc has 2G of RAM - am wondering if perhaps you have less than that? You can add memory chips, but I believe one has to find out how much memory one's pc can take & of what type. - Isha (Marysia)
I'm kind of torn between Camino and Safari 4 - Andy Roberts
I used to use Flock but it seems to get buggier with each release, so I just use firefox with extensions now, I mean afterall, all Flock is, is a glorified firefox, you can get the same thing with extensions in Firefox. The funny thing is, Flock is built off the firefox engine, so would love to know how they have made such a mess of it lol - Howie Douglas from twhirl

Morning all - can anyone explain why after posting 25 articles, having many backlinks, social bookmarking - the lot, why a site www.mykeyphrase.com wouldn't appear for 'mykeyphrase' (two words) in the SERPs? 'mykeyphrase 2009' and 'mykeyphrase + another word' gets ranked top 10s... Yours frustratedly
I got it at #1 on Google for all English countries for "my keyphrase" and #3 for all English speaking counties as "mykeyphrase" the seems dandy to me! - Lance Carr
Competition is the killer in this case - if your domain is too new, then you can get difficulty in rankings - TrafficBug
TrafficBug is right, I had social bookmarks rank higher than my actual site for months. Some pages still rank higher than the article page for whatever reason. But the homepage does not rank higher. It just takes time and credibility. - Brian McClure
Thx Sean - yes I did - I think it's bad form to give out actual domains here - although I would like to - to see what I'm doing wrong... I can get it right for others! - Mark
I've had that happen to me - but the good part is that the site keeps its position while the social bookmarks, etc. fade away. At least they should be able to find your site from the bookmarks, videos, et al. - Robert Worstell

Testing a niche before developing your own product, Which method to choose?: Guys the 30DC way is to create a blog, get it ranked high, drive organic/paid traffic, and see if the affiliate product converts.
The other way is - create a squeeze page. Drive traffic via PPC to squeeze page, build a small email list, launch email autoresponder sequence, convert to affiliate product sales. It seems one advantage of the 2nd way is that it's less effort consuming and faster too. Which method should I choose? Would love to hear how other 30DCers are testing niche viability, and pros/cons of each method. Many thanks gang :-) - Ritesh Lal
Well explained Ritesh! That is like Mass Control to the dot! You rock! I think those are probably the best ways as well. For extremely popular markets...I have used forums to sample my market...and then do tests to see what sort of traffic my competitors sites are getting. Then use common since to improve their products. Not the best way but pretty easy for me! Though I recommend your ways. :) - TrafficBug
The other advantage of the 2nd method seems to be that you end up with a highly targeted email list, to which you can occasionally send out promotions of other products over their life time. One of my non 30DC partners asked today, "So why spend time building a blog, and spend up to 2-3 month promoting and ranking it, just to test a niche?" I didn't have a satisfactory answer unfortunately :( Anyone wants to help me out? - Ritesh Lal
I think it depends on the niche, the product, the target customer, and your long term goals (if any) for the niche. My product requires some level of trust, and is my day job. I guess for me it's more about branding. I know the $ is there! At this point my focus is social/relationship/forum stuff. Understanding the competition, what works, what doesn't, AND knowing what the customer isn't getting from them will be critical for me. I'll probably try PPC to test hard to come by keywords! - DaleK
Thanks for your very well thought out comments Dale, big T :-), and Sean. Dale: I totally agree. If you know that the $ is there, then niche test is already over, and you need to have a rich content blog to engage with your market. Sean: Those are exactly the kinds of rumblings I have been hearing. One of the major guru newsletters recently put out an emergency update saying that readers should no longer be using their squeeze page techniques. - Ritesh Lal
The argument for or against Squeeze pages depends on your own analytics. - Robert Worstell
Sean: What if instead of having squeeze pages with little content, you actually have a 20 pages mini site? E.g a site with sections- Home, About, FAQ, Contact us, Articles. Within the Articles section you could put 15 commissioned or self-written keyword rich articles. The advantage I see is that this mini site is so much less resource intensive compared to a blog, where you have to keep adding posts. The mini-site can be made rich enough to pass the Google test for PPC quality scores and page-ranks... - Ritesh Lal
... I have seen several such examples on the net (mini-sites with high page ranks). So why go for the blog format as your ranking vehicle/sales vehicle, rather than a 20 pages mini-site? Thanks for your patience and hearing me out :) Would love to hear any thoughts out there. I am sure Immediate Edge answers these and other questions, but have to wait a few months, before I can start that subscription ;-) - Ritesh Lal
Wordpress is a PHP script that stores content in it's mySQL database. You can use it to create any type of site you want, squeeze page, mini-site, shopping cart, blog. The advantage is all the code is there for linking one page to another and posting those links on every page, you don't have to write your own code. Tools such as XsitePro can also work for a minisite, but with all the plugins for Wordpress, why use anything else. - California Jerry
Ritesh, I believe that the 30dc recommends the blog format because Google loves blogs. That's probably because blogs are updated on a regular basis. Also, if they're on-topic, Google would I guess regard them as informational rather than just as sales pages. - Isha (Marysia)
Thanks Marysia, you're a treasure trove of info. I did some research of my own after posting my question, and Blogs do seem to better than static sites for google ranking. Caro on 30DC forums says "Robert (GuruBob) who heads the Lab, has done extensive testing. Blogs have demonstrated netting better results more quickly in moving up the search results pages." - Ritesh Lal

Hi all! So I'm selling a Clickbank product... And I try to search for the product and see who else is selling it. And find that it's leaked all over the internet???!! So I think I should stop selling it now... Or not? Just a reminder to check up on your products before you promote them...
I'm pretty sure the point of all this is that it's not the product, it's the marketing. If ten thousand people are selling it, that's a pretty good clue that people are buying it. YOUR JOB is to get people to see your offer before most of the other peoples' offers. - Davey
When I say leaked, I don't mean they are selling it. I mean people are taking the product and posting it up everywhere for free... - Art Y.
Contact the product owner and let them know... - Mike Hill from twhirl
Ok! - Art Y.
could be the other way round too... someone could be trying to sell a free product :) - Allison
Of course, you could turn that on it's head and offer that product as a bonus for another product... But the key thing is to research in ClickBank for actual sales trends. And you are right to search for that same product on the Internet before you invest too heavily in promotion and site-building around it. - Robert Worstell
Oh.... Err... no it's not. I know because it's quite a well-known product and is even on Amazon. Umm... are you allowed to give away other people's products? - Art Y.
You have to legally have their permission to give something away - unless it's not in copyright, like public domain stuff. And then there is stuff that people want to go viral - with their links and offers in it. So... it depends. - Robert Worstell
California Jerry
Three Separate Domains, or Just One? If you have three niches that are closely related, will it be more effective for SEO to use one domain so that your backlinks will accumulate on one site rather than be spread between three?
Each niche has it's own affiliate product and bonus report, however, so I'm not sure if I'd need three opt-in's on the home page, one for each in a static area above the main post area. Please tell me what you think... Thanks. - California Jerry
no...go three separate domains as each should be targeting a different keyword in the url - Allison
I think Sean means 3 different hosting companies, so they are on separate IP addresses. Also, keep in mind, if they are related sites, you can also share the love between your 3 sites by commenting about your other sites in your posts. Get some inter-family love going.. - Barry Unruh
Depending, but 3 opt-ins/products on one page might confuse people and sounds like an administrative nightmare. To start, you could optimize/promote one keyword/product on the website, promote the others via mailing list or as an upsell, get one keyword ranking then split them up to different domains later. I'd focus on ranking one domain/keyword at a time! - DaleK
And.... if you plan on building 3 domains and interlinking them my understanding is that is bad for seo unless you put them on different hosts. http://www.seohosting.com/ - DaleK
Would it be a good idea to use sub-domains? - Art Y.
Thanks for the comments. The keyword only needs to be in the Permalink, not the root, I would think. Except for Adwords where character length is limited. Bookmarking is done for the inner pages, not home page.Yes? Three opt-in's would be a potential problem. I was not planning on inter-linking, but some reference links may be appropriate, as Barry suggests. Regarding Sub-domains, Google treats them as totally separate domains, so that would also be considered inter-linking.. - California Jerry
One concept I'm toying with is wordpress categories as subdomains - and then interlink the content. Each subdomain to have it's own template, so 3 opt-in lists are possible. Still on the drawing boards... - Robert Worstell
Mitja MG
I'm going on a slow link building campaign and I want to know if a post on forum with your link in sig, means a 1 gained backlink for Google? If I post let say 5 posts on forum, would that be 5 backlinks?
I guess so. As long as they are aren't no-follow links. - Art Y.
Ok that is cool then. But how do I know if they are no-follow or do-follow? - Mitja MG
Use the SEO for firefox addon and watch out for the red links... more on this on the 30DC preseason - Jorge Blanco
Does the forum allow sigs? New users cannot post links in sigs in many forums - TrafficBug
That's right. Some forums require a min post quota before you are allow to display a signature. - Buff Toast
Always check for sigs or site links before you post. Also, get an SEO plug-in for Firefox/Flock which will highlight no-follow links. - Robert Worstell
Well, actually you can check for no-follow links by right clicking on the link and choosing properties too. If it's a no-follow link, it will say it there... If it doesn't say anything, that means it's a follow link - Art Y.
Cool tip, Art. - Buff Toast
I see this now with the SEO Book toolbar for FF - Mitja MG
You cannot find if a link is follow or no follow by right clicking on it - at least not in IE7 - TrafficBug
why would you ever want to use IE7 anyway... I only use it (on extreme situations) to download firefox :D - Jorge Blanco
Remember no follow links still count as links - they in theory don't pass authority - which in theory is a complete joke!!!! - Ed Dale from BuddyFeed
Sig lines do count in some forums better than others. One good way is if people ask questions & you can post a link to INFO not Sales. If you find good forums & participate you can grow friends that will also recommend you to others. Forums take time but, I have made more sales from forums than any other type of site. Team marketing on forums also works great. If the board allows blog mini post also helps. Stay away from spam filled boards. - Sheryl Loch
Yes. Apart from the authority of the backlinks, if you are active in big forums, thousands of people will see your sig link everyday. And they'll click on it and see. To be honest, I've joined a lot of forums already, but I've been too lazy to go in and join the conversation at the moment... Being new to communities is always an awkward thing... :S - Art Y.
Yes agree. Well I have made some niche blogs and when joining forums etc. a big number comes out. And posting every day to around 10 niche forums is a hard job, but it should be payed off from Google, what you think? - Mitja MG
I asked this on Twitter today but didn't get a response :( Do backlinks from spammy sites actually do us any harm with Google (or with anywhere else)? - Isha (Marysia)
Marysia - Yes if you only have spammy backlinks (9) - but that not much if you have other decent backlinks (1.0) - microscopic difference if you have good backlinks (0.01) - my personal experience from differnt sites with high level of spam backlinks that you can't prevent. << numbers are just my way of rating and are not scientific - just what's happened to me - Ginger G
Ginger, not sure what your (9) means? Do you mean 0.9? ie if you only have spammy links then that will affect 90% of your Google love, but if you also have good backlinks then it will only affect 10% of your Google love? - Isha (Marysia)

"A new graph of the Gartner hype cycle for emerging technologies has been popping up on a variety of blogs. Does anyone know if you can post articles which you have already posted in your blog to Ezine Articles or Hubpages or Squidoo? I checked through the TOS and Guidelines and they don't say anything about it... I searched in Google and some people say it's ok... But just to confirm
On ezine you must not have same article that on your blog. You need to rewrite it, they don't allow same content. On other sites I don't know exactly, I think you can have them. - Mitja MG
@Mitja MG I'd have to disagree with you here. I know at least 7 bloggers who will take articles directly from their blogs and enter them into Ezine word for word (as well as 20 or more other article directories) and they have never had problems. Perhaps they change the title, but that's it. I have done it as well, more than once, and never had issues. - Peter Gibson
If I remember correctly, that is a term violation in Ezine. Whether you have been caught or not is irrelevant. Might be like google... they take their time, but they eventually catch and ban you :( - Jorge Blanco
Method I use is full detail article on site, then for hubs, etc. I make sort of cliff note type variations that are each at least 30% different, which can be achieved by using LSI or similar mean the same word strings. Yes many do copy exact dups of articles but think of it as if it is full article with inbound link, user clicks and goes to site bam, same exact article, what do you think will happen BOUNCE Off. So, the synopsis is the tease, they want to know more so click, land on site, reason to stay. - JuneM
Good to know. I was wondering the same thing. - Susan
According to Chris Knight in the Ezine blog (http://blog.ezinearticles.com/2008...), you can "re-purpose" blog entries for Ezine, calls it a "simple editing job," doesn't talk about rewriting. I don't know about the other services. - LJF Wolffe
Umm... actually Ezines only says that you can't take an article that you already published on Ezine, change it a bit, and republish it again on Ezine as a new article. But it doesn't say that you can't republish an article that you had published somewhere else. But from that blog post by Chris Knight, I gather that it's ok. Thanks for the tips everyone. And thanks June for sharing :) - Art Y.
It may be acceptable however, I think you get what you give. If you are recycling content, you may get recycled results. I understand that putting up fresh content is a big job. Especially relevant back links from authority sites are important. I think back to the suggestion that was made from the 30DC that getting a related article and doing a review on the article is a quick way of keeping content unique. - Frank Dobner
You do not want to do this - it will create a " duplicate content issue" - Ed Dale from BuddyFeed
Duplicate content is touchy. Sometimes I've seen the same article with different templates show up. One author has that you only have to change 40% of your article. Best would be to post your article to your blog first, since Ezine Articles has a different clientele - but very best would be to create several versions of each post and post them all to different (top) article directories - share the link love around. - Robert Worstell
always try to change your content so thats is never the same twice "Benjamins Ballin" - benjamins
I think there are two things here. If you are looking for links then sure - no duplicate content. But, if you want to have exposure to more readers, then having duplicate content is not a problem as it is unlikely the same people will read lots of different article directories and you entries will be listed in their internal searches. Of course, you can combine both by having different content but sometimes time is against you! - Karen Purves
From ezinearticle (on Twitter) regarding the issue: http://twitter.com/EzineAr... - Roger Carr

Hi everyone! Am finally coming to the end of my ebook (I'm so proud!) once it is setup I was thinking of emailing all of the websites that the content relates to to try and get them to promote it, is that overstepping a boundary?

I would like to know how many people here listen to pod cast regularly? And do you listen to the whole thing? or do you jump around? and also, do you think it's the best form of media right now? Man that"s a lot of questions. Thanks
I listen regularly and I don't jump around, but I also do other stuff and zone out sometimes while I listen. - Carl Pruitt
I don't (as I learn better by reading), however my partner swears by them and will listen when he is walking early in the mornings, when sailing, while in the car and sometimes even before he goes to sleep. He programs about a week's worth at a time into his iphone from a variety of sources and topics. We haven't bothered with tv for over 8 years - there's so many better ways to get up to date info:-) - Kim Baillie
Hi, I listen to podcasts and most of the time prefer them to videos because I can listen while exercising or driving. Although, I have to listen to a podcast a few times for it to sink in. Like most people these days my spare time is limited. Videos are great for learning how to do something on a computer. - Greg
Greg has a great point there. Podcasts offer an amazing leverage. I sometimes don't have enough time for watching the videos, but I always listen to a podcast or audio book/course on my commute. I have gone through 100s of hours of material this way :) Fully recommended! - Jorge Blanco
I prefer reading. Podcasts HAVE to be in good audio quality for me cause I listen them in the metro. By the way, for all podacsters here: Constant sound intensity is the most important thing in for me. Sorry Ed, but your podcasts are not audible for me. Whispering, coughing and cheering within seconds is a torture for my ears. - zac
I listen to a lot of audio books, but when it comes to teaching someone a specific task, I think video is better. I do listen to Eds podcast but I would prefer some video along with them. - Rich_Glass
Different people learn and enjoy media in different ways, so it pays to offer everything - written, visual and audio. I love audio for car trips but at home I'm more likely to read or watch a video. - Lisa
I listen to podcasts all the time now, I must admit I had never heard of them before the 30DC, now I listen most days. I usually listen to the whole thing while doing other tasks or when I am out walking or waiting in the car for the girls. Podcasts are great for being educated on a particular subject or just for entertainment purposes - the ones that manage to mix both of these qualities are the ones I tend to listen to most. - Groobers
thanks everyone - Rich_Glass
I personally struggle with podcasts and only listen when there is absolutely no other choice. When making podcasts maybe the few extra yards to provide a transcript would be appreciated by users. - Ginger G
I think it depends upon the type of learner you are. Since I am an audio learner, I tend to ignore any visual in order to concentrate. However, I do need the kinesthetic element of books, so I love my downloads as well. - Shelley
Right now, one of the best media is to go to http://slideshare.net - create a powerpoint that goes along with the podcast and upload it there. Then link and time your presentation to the podcast and you have a slidecast that people want to see. These are lower bandwidth demand than videos, and I get more immediate views than a YouTube video on the same subject and keywords. - Robert Worstell
I love podcasts & audiobooks. It puts me in a really positive and productive state to go walk in the park while listening to Tony Robbins. I just can't get that same effect with video or reading. One of the best podcasts ever was the one with Ed roaming around London looking for markets. It you listen to it when out and about, you actually start to see the world from a marketing perspective. - Tim Brennan
