Rob Sellen :o)
Who on here actively blocks people, how's it impacted your experience here? I was against blocking at first mainly because of the missing parts of the conversation but there are some idiots on here who I am seriously considering blocking. I know you can use a new incognito window, or log out and look , Just want perspective on the experience.
I blocked 2 people on here and many old-school FFers know exactly who they are. I also have an anti-blocking policy, but those 2 were stalkers and made it impossible to function on FF without actually blocking them. - Rah-PM 2012
I see, there are a few idiots on here I admit. So no bad experiences for you now then? - Rob Sellen :o)
I don't even remember. Is there a way to see who I've blocked? - Jordan Hofker
Don't think there is. Not sure. I wondered the same thing a minute ago. - Rob Sellen :o)
Nope. I see people make stupid comments, but those don't actually affect my experience here. - Rah-PM 2012
Ok, well I am sick of the ones who have that "mob mentality" here. - Rob Sellen :o)
Well, unless they're stalking you from thread to thread or something, I don't see the point of blocking. You can ignore individual comments. - Rah-PM 2012
Yeah, I agree, that's what I have been doing, but you know some of these are just argumentative for the sake of it... It's them rather than a comment or two posted.. like everything they say is argumentative with you. not worth hassle. Hypocrites most of the time too. - Rob Sellen :o)
I don't usually block, but there are some people that I simply ignore. - Rah-PM 2012
Maybe that's what I should do then... nice one, I will give that a go. I am off to bed, night mate. :o) .. look forward to seeing anyone else's perspective on this, if you do use the block, what's your take?. :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
I routinely block people who follow me and have a hojillion subscriptions but almost no subscribers. Don't need no spam up in this piece. - Brett Kelly from iPhone
I block when necessary. I don't like negative energy on my threads. How has it impacted my experience? Glad there's a blocking tool. - Myrna
I would like to block. But it would mean an indifference to what I really want to change, I have to hear them, answer them, and stop them. The majority of my friends though have decided to make a list of hard-line pro-Ahmadinejad people here and block them - شوخی
I blocked 2 of them today. And no need to make a list. I catch the negativity right away and block. It could be anyone pro, anti, if they're carrying too much fear or negativity I can't deal. - Myrna
The last person I blocked was Noah David Simon and I don't even know if he is on here anymore. - Geoff Schultz {TF}
I know some who have different political views here and in real life. If they're respectful and not negative, they're ok and good. - Myrna
Geoff!!!!! You too? Me too but someone asked me to unblock and see if I can talk to him. So I unblocked and no go. I never blocked him again because he never comes and spews on my threads. If he does once, he's gone. - Myrna
i dont censor/block to keep the experience/corrolations here as close to irl as possible, :( - chaz2b
Myrna I have had him on block for over a year. - Geoff Schultz {TF}
Geoff, I don't blame you. He is all negative and is very aggressive in his negativity. I had an Iranian today, 2, in fact ask me on a thread that was solidarity for Iranian people if I was a zionist. I replied zionist? And he went on to insult. People use labels all the time and I despise labels. It puts people in a box and no room for flexibility or growth. - Myrna
Myrna wasn't his ID dadabase? - شوخی
Yes, I think that was one of them. Who is he? - Myrna
He is an idiot probably a former student at UBC Canada. Had told me a zionist too. I didn't block and kept bothering him until he blocked me! the guy is probably son of a high-rank official sent to abroad for studies. We don't know more. but we have found his face on youtube. if you want to see him doing crazy stuff :nd - شوخی
doctrine and fayaz1 I blocked because they were very rude and negative. Didn't really want to have a conversation and discuss. Just wanted to order everyone around. - Myrna
doctrine is the name that you call dadabase I guess...not sure. - Myrna
All of them need a trip through the dryer with the Snuggle Bear - Geoff Schultz {TF}
شوخی no thank you...I'm trying to stay loving and centered. I don't need those lessons. - Myrna
I sometimes feel I should block too. the more I talk to them the more hatred - شوخی
Do you know Mahyar? He has loving and wonderful energy. Lives in Iran. - Myrna
Yes, he has an eye on English speakers. Has a good taste - شوخی
Hope Rob got his questions answered LOL - Myrna
Deakins could you sub me? - شوخی
I've blocked a few people and it definitely improved my experiences here. Some people are just about insulting people in the worst ways and I don't have time for that. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
Deakins, did you see my comment? Could you sub to my feed. Need to send a private message - شوخی
Sent you one - شوخی
I definitely believe in blocking and actively do so. Don't go by what other people do as far as blocking or not blocking. Everyone is wired differently and will feel & react differently to what they encounter online. I cannot handle and do not WANT to handle/overlook/ignore the rude, argumentative, hateful or insulting people online or off. I've blocked popular FriendFeeders - my only regret was not doing it sooner. I've learned some hard life lessons about boundaries and it's essential for me personally to create boundaries and have those in place so I can have peace. I do not have peace when someone is picking a fight, insulting, being condescending and the like. Some people actually feed and thrive on negative energy and will (probably unconsciously) create it. If you don't want the mobbing (common behavior on FF), you will have to close the door to those vampires and quit letting them into your living room (threads) to feed on the bad vibes & conflict they create (but blame on someone else). If you subscribe to the "no blocking" rule, your door is wide open have repeated incidents of these types appearing in your living room and creating the same bad energy over and over and over. - Jannifer @wordsforliving
You know the saying - birds of a feather flock together. To lessen the chance of the mob mentality robbing you of a peaceful FF experience, you may have to be proactive. Identify as best you can who seems to be negative and hanging together. Then, if you're subscribed, make sure none of them are subscribed to YOU. You unsubscribe them from you by first blocking them, then UNblocking them. That boots you out of their subscribers. This helps because they are not seeing as much of you & less opportunities to create bad vibes with you. You'll have to do that with all the birds of the same feather that are hanging together, or it will not be effective. If they keep on being ugly, use your right to block. Figure out what your own boundaries are - don't go by anyone else's rules they set for themselves. - Jannifer @wordsforliving
hey, thanks, some interesting answers here.. i had only ever blocked a few people, they know who they are too, but never really wanted to block people...yet it seems I will have to with a few, as there are some real idiots on here, bullies, fanatics. Don't need them. Thanks to you all for the replies. - Rob Sellen :o)
F'k em.. they are blocked... don't need that bollox! - Rob Sellen :o)
Geoff, "All of them need a trip through the dryer with the Snuggle Bear." how loving of you. But you're right! :) - Myrna
Jannifer :))))) - Myrna
Oh, forgot to say 'perfection' on your comment. - Myrna
..and hi Rob. I remember that weekend back then..you showed me 'the way' here. - Myrna
I remember it too. :o) Hope all is going well here with you now, not having to put up with the idiots on here. - Rob Sellen :o)
Myrna! :)))))))) - Jannifer @wordsforliving
I'm trying to make this go viral. It's so important but I know that only people who are ready will 'get it' but lets try anyway, we teachers. Jannifer http://ff.im/5QAgX - Myrna
Cool Myrna - I'll check that out! What did you mean when you said you "forgot to say 'perfection' on your comment" - who were you talking to? - Jannifer @wordsforliving
YOU! - Myrna
Holden, guess you're not attracting the negative peeps. You're so good, hehe - Myrna
Holden - there's a few people on here that may cause you to choose between the block button or go insane! - Jannifer @wordsforliving
Jannifer, they don't go to Holden. - Myrna
He's protected here by his youth. - Myrna
I did block one person, but I don't remember why now - Kim Landwehr
I rarely block anybody. And it has had no impact. - Tony C (Unrated) from fftogo
Just blocked a few more punks. who think they are clever, sad muppets :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Well you know Myrna, my lengthy comments above came out of a couple of extremely ugly experiences on here with the mob mentality. I have had the most hate-filled things said to me - unbelievable. - Jannifer @wordsforliving
Disabled the comments? on here? how did you do that? - Rob Sellen :o)
I don't think I've blocked anyone on FF. I now actively block spammers and non-interesting pr0n people on Twitter. - Joey Gibson
Holden, yes, of course..JD made comment about R. post on that testing material. - Myrna
Rob, on EDIT - Myrna
This is why I avoid all topics on religion & politics - it only brings out the WORST in people and only succeeds in generating more negativity, hatred, intolerance, etc. - Jannifer @wordsforliving
I think Joe was in a weird mood and they were feeling vulnerable..not a good mix. And they didn't know him, he's not their friend so thats worse. You can let a friend slip by or communicate easier. - Myrna
Thanks.. Wish I had looked at the edit link.. sigh.. would saved myself all that shit... at least I know now :o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Right Holden - lessons learned the hard way - know exactly what you mean - Jannifer @wordsforliving
you can edit comments I mean delete particular comments but when I've done that someone actually asked why I deleted comment. LOL - Myrna
Joe, 'smart ass' I would say. See if Joe wasn't my friend I'd have a ton of bricks falling on my head now. - Myrna
Why should you feel like a dictator if you didn't delete. Holden - Myrna
For whatever reason, people go totally insane particularly when it comes to Politics here on FF. I don't think people here could have a rational discussion about it without it resulting in epic FAIL craziness. - Jannifer @wordsforliving
Says alot that friendfeed felt the need to add that.... - Rob Sellen :o)
yes and religion or should I say Israel, U.S. Obama. Forget it! - Myrna
Wow, big thunder and lightening in NYC now. Wonder what the message is... - Myrna
yeah I can see what the attraction here is for them.. it's ok, they will just get blocked by more and more people... in the end friendfeed may well get pissed off with them.. they are making this place bad. - Rob Sellen :o)
Let me share something that enlightened me personally in the area of comment deletion, closing threads & possibly blocking.... During one of my crazy mob takedowns here, I was having a private conversation with someone who was talking things out with me... - Jannifer @wordsforliving
In the conversation she was talking about "letting words stand". In listening to what she had to say, I realized there are at least 2 different mindsets here on FF. The most popular mindset here to let any and all words be said, no matter how ugly, never block, never close comments, never delete comments. Every word should be allowed in and once said to remain standing.... - Jannifer @wordsforliving
But I have the less common mindset to not allow hate-filled, negative especially hurtful & harmful words to remain. - Jannifer @wordsforliving
People take offense to it because they subscribe to the open door idea of letting anything into their living room & they believe their comments supersede the rights of the poster of the thread. - Jannifer @wordsforliving
As fraught as political and religious discussions tend to get, I have to say, the conversations I've seen here on FF have been far more intelligent and level-headed than anything I've seen anywhere else. - Victor Ganata
I personally follow more of a "heartfelt" or compassionate outlook towards the persons themselves. If I think someone is being harmed by words being said, I would most likely get rid of the harmful words. People underestimate the power of words. I have a Username I use universally (wordsforliving) that has a meaning behind it. I believe in giving others words that promote life and peace (as best as I can, even though I fail too at times). If the words do not give LIFE, but rather hurt and harm others, I'm just not an advocate of letting those words stand when it's something I can do something about. - Jannifer @wordsforliving
Yeah... people say names don't hurt... but they do... or can. - Rob Sellen :o)
I rarely block. There are two things I can do before I consider blocking someone: I can hide any or all his posts and I can force him to unsubscribe. - Morton Fox
i hate having to block, but i will do it if i don't see any other way. - Joe The Sausage
I've only blocked once or twice becuase they were trolls. - Roberto Bonini
How do you force them to unsubscribe? - Rob Sellen :o)
That's what I do - hide their posts first or force them to unsubscribe. Rob you force them to unsubscribe by blocking them then UNblocking them. - Jannifer @wordsforliving
Ok, thanks, will remember that ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)
Sometimes blocking is actually more for the benefit of the other person - if someone is always agitated, angry, blood-pressure is going up by your presence, words or beliefs, keeping that person from seeing you saves their mental health and helps keep them from driving themselves into a heart attack. - Jannifer @wordsforliving
There's another way to force unsubscribe. Go to your list of subscribers and then click on Manage Subscribers. Find the person you wish to force unsubscribe and click on Remove. - Morton Fox
Aaww! thanks Morton! I didn't realize I could do it that way! - Jannifer @wordsforliving
No one yet. Though I have unsubscribed a couple - Alistair (alpinefolk)
