Go insane :) Seriously though, that day is not far off. My real answer: develop the computational infrastructure required to deal with the data. - Neil Saunders
I think that as long as the way we approach sequence data doesn't change, we don't have a chance to explore its full potential. No matter what the particular sequence is from the biological point of view, we treat it in essentially the same way: BLAST or its more sensitive variants (approach differs only by the sequence type: DNA/protein). - Pawel Szczesny
note the paper is by someone from a sequencing company (and a company that alas has yet to produce much sequence in the public domain) - Jonathan Eisen
I'm with Neil: the informatics platforms to handle this will become crucial over the next few years (months?). Lots of data and lots of people and lots of uses soon multiplies up. - Matt Wood
Yep, already far more data than anyone even knows how to cope with. Informatics is the big problem and will also hopefully help to show the way as data flows from other sources start to catch up. Matt has his work cut out for him... - Cameron Neylon
I'll try to cover some of the challenges and (potential!) solutions in more detail in some upcoming guest posts on O'Reilly Radar. - Matt Wood
