I think this is fascinating news *precisely* because it mentions Danah and Caterina and Marc Davis and Robin Dunbar, and oh, by the by, Zuckerberg.

So a question for all you readers: what makes this article "news" to you? The social currency of who's quoted in it? The fact I forwarded it? The intrinsic value of the information, if you're running a social media project? I could use your insights for a talk I'm writing this weekend on the subject...

the "news" for me: evolution of news feed, how and why it was created, how it evolved and was kept even after first 'bad' reaction. Now, in addition to status-es updates there's the possibility to aggregate all sorts of feeds be they from a blog, a social bookmark, etc. 2nd point that got my attention: the part about Twitter, the idea of using communication tools as a form of “co-presence” is well rendered and developped.

Thanks, Pascal. I appreciate your summary... I'll try to see how it all comes together later on. I think there may be two layers of meaning: the intrinsic value of the news (which you ably summarized) and the extrinsic (social) value of keeping up with a community of other professionals.
