Plz send me at vinayshah_007@yahoo.com ... thanks
- Vinay Shah
Rami and Rohit, you've both got one heading your way. Bogen and Vinay, I see you've already asked loads of people for an invite, so hopefully one of those will have already sent you one. (I don't really want to waste my nominations on people who have already asked for several elsewhere...)
- Tony Ruscoe
Yep. Hide one of their tweets and then click on 'hide other items like this one' and you'll see the option to hide all tweets from that particular person.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Rohit: reversing it is not as intuitive as hiding it, but at the bottom of every page, there's a link to show hidden items. If you see one of your friends' tweets there, click "un-hide" on it. It'll undo the global hide from before.
- Mark Trapp
Because, I find it easier to follow on Friendfeed, with threaded conversations, and filters, etc. Probably more importantly, I like to see their Google Shared items, Delicious bookmarks, etc. that they don't always tweet about. It's essentially following their lifestream since Friendfeed is an aggregator, rather than just following their tweets - a more richer experience!
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Oh, and unlike Twitter (and it's various clents), here I actually see everyone's tweet replies to their followers irrespective of whether I'm following their followers or not. Friendfeed brings back the discovery feature that they removed from Twitter! :)
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
it actually makes sense. and one isn't restricted to 140 characters :)
- Harini Calamur
Welcome all :))) ..and there's more, wait! Another suggestion: try to look at home feed or people you are subscribed to and if you like the post, click 'like' or comment. Something magical will start happening.
- Myrna
I would go a little further and encourage people to at least have a friendfeed account with twitter n blog integration so that it does become easier to follow them better.
- Dhananjay Nene
Mahendra, You are invited to look at my page. I just posted some beautiful photos. And I'm supposed to tend to my blog. I think I'm addicted to FF.
- Myrna
The thing is you have to show people value, warm connection and caring. Where have I heard that?
- Myrna
Myrna, I think I perfectly understand the addiction to FF! Yeah, I'm finding FF to be 'warmer' than Twitter for some reason. Feel like there are real people here, unlike the mktg/spammers/bots out there.
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
yep i agree .. atleast people bother to reply back . i seem to find that on twitter there are far less people who will bother replying back. Again i think this has to do with how friendfeed is structured and the kind of people it attracts as its userbase.
- Bhowmik Shah
Yes! And I liked fb because of the artists(art) and now I see FF has many and it feels more upscale(broader sense) if that makes sense.(no pun) Look at this and say something. http://ff.im/580aF
- Myrna
Bhowmik, click the link in the last comment. If you'd like to say something, please do. I know Robert Scoble is going to smile when he sees it.
- Myrna
The only problem I face is too much tweets spoils the FF feed and you know that some of your friends tweet a LOT. goodmorning, goodforenoon, goodafternoon, thinking of having tea, final having tea, goodnight.
- Rohit Srivastwa
One good solution is indeed to block their twitter feeds, but then you completly loose them, i move these kind of people into a group in tweetdeck & visit them once in a while
- Rohit Srivastwa
Rohit - rhymes with me! I found that those tweets were too distracting, but I didn't want to lose the connection either. So I'm still using that tweetdeck group when I can. :)
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Grm, I ought to sleep. I misread that as "...I will prefer following people on Friendfeed if they have an accident..." just now. :(
- Tyson Key
I have tried creating another friend group in FF for them, but still managing such tweets are much easier. Also I have moved such people from @rohit11 to @r11talk on twitter ;)
- Rohit Srivastwa
Michael, certainly a lot of it is. If you look at statcounter, you can see the MSN and Live search traffic switch over to Bing: http://gs.statcounter.com/#search... and then the MSN and Live search traffic flatlines.
- Matt Cutts
Michael - it is probably moving traffic from live to bing but net gain of bing+live is still quite huge month over month.
- Atul Arora
Wrong comparison. Why would you compare a search engine with Digg and CNN?
- Ionut
It's actually hard to see (from compete) what is "bing + live"...users who went to *both* sites in a month. But this could easily explain why the "live" curve doesn't decline as fast as the "bing" curve increases. Guess we'll know the actual result in another month or two.
- Michael Herf
Ooh Ya. Its kool. But as per another study which I did, twitter is more popular than my personal homepage.
- Rohit Srivastwa
It's just an XML feed I put on my server as I didn't figure out how else to get animations playing right on Friendfeed! Whenever I uploaded an animated GIF as a message here it wouldn't autoplay. Now when I want to include an animation I can just paste it in the XML. Not sure if there's an easier way...
- Philipp Lenssen
So your animated gif is now a series of individually-linked single frames?
- ianf ⌘
No, the animated gif is indeed just an animated gif... Friendfeed does allow such animated gifs when included as a feed item thumbnail...
- Philipp Lenssen
Frames are little fast, a little slow would have been much better
- Rohit Srivastwa
(I should disclaim that so far, none of the animations presented in the animations feed are done by me! It's only stuff I found on the web that I thought was interesting.)
- Philipp Lenssen
"i have a program where i enter your ip and you're dead" - I'm going to use that as a threat whenever someone annoys me on an intertube
- Slippy "WildBeard" Lane
In Germany if it's Monday and someone says "Next Wednesday" it's supposed to mean the Wednesday in 8 days (vs "This Wednesday", which would be the day after tomorrow), is this the same in English? Always find this slightly confusing.
no. we mean the one 2 days away; unlesssss the person realllly makes an emphatic point of say NEXXXXT wednesday ;-) does that clear it up?! LOL geees i think i just added to the confusion!
- Susan Beebe
next means next. if it's in two days, it's the next one. Unless you say "Next week Wednesday", then you skip a week
- Josh Haley
i would assume that it would be the one in 8 days and not the one coming up. if someone met the one in 2 days, they would just say 'Wednesday'.
- Admiral Anika
tho it gets a bit tricky like this... if today is monday and someone says "see you next tuesday" they mean a week from today - not tomorrow!
- Allen Stern
it would be in the next week Wednesday. for Wednesday 2 days away it will be "this Wednesday"
- Rohit Srivastwa
PS: I meant the Wednesday in *9* days. Not sure though if there's some rule that you're only supposed to use "Next" this way in German if it's exactly 8 days. I never really understood this phrasing.
- Philipp Lenssen
I don't know. I get confused so I always double check. "Okay... so that's Wednesday, the 1st of October?"
- Yolanda
We are in the process of transitioning our servers this afternoon to accommodate the new feature, so there may be a hiccup or two in the meantime :)
- Bret Taylor
I'm wondering how it decides which entry to show and which to collapse.
- Andrew Trinh
really cool... it's working now :) Is there any kind of priorities? Like FF entries take priority over Blogs, etc.. or is it first come, first served?
- Tim Hoeck
hmm. first off, I <3 friendfeed. But I am kinda sad to see it go the way of all software getting more and more popular, it gets more and more complicated. I love the elegant simplicity of the V1 and hope that you guys can continue to improve the service and features while still maintaining the "light" and simple feel. I know we all struggle with it, but with every V2 product release I'm reminded of this general pattern in SW design.
- Jenna Bilotta
I don't get how the duplicate feed works. If you look at the feed items for the two stories attached to this story, they don't have related links. Do they only show up on the home feed? Or does only the first story get the related links section?
- Mark Trapp
The entry with the most recent discussion activity goes on top.
- Bret Taylor
we don't need to use beta anymore :) new feature is totally awesome. thanks guys.
- Baturalp Torun
(channelling corvida ...) awesomesauce!
- Rob Diana
Better of discussion activity, having being put in the related entries will definitely kill that.
- Andrew Trinh
Bret, awesome. Any chance of seeing this feature in contexts other than the main feed, like on profile pages and rooms?
- Mark Trapp
What's the time length for dupe aggregation? A day? A week? A month? All time?
- AJ Kohn
The feature will go live in profile pages and rooms soon. Rolling out this feature 100% will take a day or two, so right now, you will only see it on your home feed and friend lists, but we are actively working on transitioning our system so it is available everywhere.
- Bret Taylor
Interesting: if you have something hidden, let's say all Google Reader entries without likes and comments, and that's the most recent activity for the link, the entire discussion goes from visible to hidden. Edit: cool, thanks Bret.
- Mark Trapp
When will it be in the API? (I know, always the one with the stupid API questions)
- Dustin
so this means on those rare days ping.fm actually works, i won't dupes in my feed?
- Admiral Anika
When at home my screensaver is set to "none" and chat status set to available. But when in offfice its busy on chat and screensaver set for 1 minute. Can this thing be scripted/automated. I don't want to do all these manually everytime :(
Do your screen saver and IM clients having scripting hooks? Can you automatically trigger a script when you change locations, somehow? What OS are you on??
- John Dalton
Biggest question is why? Why didn't Google get actively involved with Mozilla?
- Deepak Singh
I think it's the industry's best chance to topple IE.
- l0ckergn0me
I'd love to take it for a spin. Is there an ETA for the public release yet?
- Ray Metzen
I read the comic book twice, and despite my Safari leanings, I think this one has legs. Question is... if iPhone trumps Android, does Google port it to the iPhone?
- Louis Gray
That's not the point. I use Firefox, and want to know why Google, which has a good relationship with Mozilla (apparently) chose to go the Not Invented Here route, when there was an established open source platform to work with. The only thing I can think of is that this is to get a good mobile browser since webkit has proven itself on the iphone.
- Deepak Singh
Please let Google release it as an app for the iPhone with Gears, Flash and Java enabled. And please let Apple let them do that!
- Tony Ruscoe
I'm still curious about the firefox usage aggrigation project mentioned in the first half of the year, had a techcrunch article but has gone strangely quiet ever since. Some are claiming it'll cover only interface stats and others actual traffic data.
- alphaxion
first release will be sep-02. it now seems clear that APIs like safebrowsing [http://bit.ly/3QvWL7] and gears [http://bit.ly/4amra2] were all part of a longer-term strategy to change the game for their app set.
- MikeAmundsen
Deepak, the most logical explanation seems to be that Google wants to take Chrome in a direction where Mozilla doesn't want to go. What exactly that is remains to be seen when the thing is released...
- Ray Metzen
Deepak, it may be that the Webkit codebase is simply easier to work with. I haven't looked at either in years, but Firefox used to be quite a beast.
- Paul Buchheit
Sounds great to have new players on the browser field. But how will the support from Google to Mozilla be affected after Chrome?
- Christian Van Der Henst
Ray/Paul, fair enough. I am not saying that the choice is wrong, but I would like to know why. The mobile future is my guess, but it's only a guess.
- Deepak Singh
Deepak, that's probably a good guess. Another reason might be that Google apps are more deeply integrated than Mozilla would be comfortable with.
- Ray Metzen
I think everybody has the same question. Why Chrome when we have Firefox? Why can't Google extend support to FF?
- Rohit Srivastwa
That's bad news for Firefox. The early Google Chrome adopters are likely to be the same people that jumped on early FF as well. But what's more important, I think the idea behind Chrome is to build and position it as an application platform, which FF failed to achieve.
- Franci Penov
Looking forward to it. My designer isn't happy though, yet another browser to test not that IE is going away anytime soon.
- Angsuman Chakraborty
Paul, thanks for the link, that's illuminating.
- Jason Wehmhoener
Frankly I am concerned that Google is becoming more like Microsoft, leaving not much room for small companies to innovate and make a living.
- Angsuman Chakraborty
