"The breakthrough in this space, and the real profitability, will not come from anything as straighforward as putting social network access onto a device. Rather, it's going to require very clever designers and businessmen to sit down and think about how people interact with game consoles, how they interact with social networks and online services, and how those interactions can be built into gameplay systems."

Final chapter of DASjr's Jim Steinman "literal" trilogy. Not as good as Total Eclipse of the Heart, but still fun. "Magic photo dance! Duhnuh nuhnuh nuhnuh!"

"Firestone puts it this way: "We're in a sexual 'revolution' right now that eclipses the 1960s. The new crop of 'kids' (18 and 19 year old girls) applying to be Fire Girls are the first generation to be literally raised on internet porn. To them applying to do this is like 1 of 5 things they want to 'try' during the summer. And then they're going to go to med school. Today's porn career is the rebellion level of yesterday's sacral tattoo..."

"First announced in PC Gamer magazine back in 1997, Forever was shown before the original Half-Life launched, before the Dreamcast hit Japan, before either Game Boy Advance or Game Boy Color existed, before Microsoft's buyout of Bungie, and before Medal of Honor launched the whole damn World War II shooter genre. In the time since the game's revelation, empires have risen and fallen, or rather fallen and risen: Nintendo has gone from being the industry's top dog to a moot has-been to top dog again"

Yeah agree. But didnt like the way they won... feels like Chelsea got very unlucky with the decisions!
- Magnus K S Andersen
Yeah, I have to admit Chelsea deserved to win and should've had at least two penalties. And unless Barca improves a lot in the finale, they'll be crushed by Manchester United.

The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink, will always remain in my top 10 films...love them!
- Emma
Seen them all, but I'm disappointed that wargames, real genius and say anything didn't show up in the list! I mean, not even one Cusack movie in there? Hmph, I say. :)

I agree Fast Times should be on there well before licensed to drive. I don't even understand how anyone would consider Licensed to Drive a classic. Being a Bill, with a brother named Ted, and a really young step mother I've always had a special place in my heart for Bill and Ted's excellent adventure.
- Bill Rawlinson
What are the options? I don't click through sites like that.

Seen all 10. License to Drive doesn't belong on this list. Footloose is missing and the biggest glaring omission ... Better Off Dead.
- AJ Kohn
theirs were: breakfast club, license to drive, goonies, back to future, bill & ted's excellent adventure, weird science, pretty in pink, karate kid, revenge of nerds, ferris bueller's day off
- mike "glemak" dunn
i'd remove license to drive & replace w/ say anything (one of my all time faves); replace weird science w/ porky's; replace bill & ted w/ fast times at ridgemont high - that would be my top 10 but there's still some good ones missing: st. elmo's fire, better off dead & heathers come to mind - i worked in hollywood in the '80's so sort of lived it ;)

I've seen (and enjoyed) all but License to Drive. The Breakfast Club sparked my rebellious, teen-angst phase during pre-school. Very odd, I'm sure, to see a pre-schooler imitating Bender. It's the only period of my life in which my mother succeeded in having me willingly wear earrings (well, AN earring) in those piercings she forced on me as an infant. I didn't have an angst phase as an actual teen, though.

plus the two Coreys always gave me the creeps
- Sajida H Khan
Thanks, Mike. I've seen 6 of those. I think I'm set.
- Admiral Anika
I'm with everyone on License to Drive and Fast Times. What about Teen Wolf? It's still better than License to Drive IMO.
- Kenton
Drop License to Drive for Say Anything and Revenge of the Nerds for Fast Times, and it would've been a great list. As is, it's full of fail for not having any John Cusack movies.
- Ronny Arild
Sadly I never saw goonies either, never appealed. :)

"If the Terminator franchise can carry on without Arnold Schwarzenegger, why not Mad Max without Mel Gibson? According to reports, plans are now afoot to bring a fourth instalment of the dystopian saga to the big screen, but without its most famous face."
- Baard @ Pixum
The main difference is that The Terminator is a concept, while Mel Gibson is Mad Max.

If Apple could, they would've been providing such a service a long time ago (and so would Microsoft and Sony for the Xbox 360 and PS3 as well). Unfortunately, the license issue for movies (and tv shows) is a complete and utter mess here in Europe. The NYT wrote an article about this a year ago, http://www.nytimes.com/2008... , and I don't think the situation has improved since then. Meanwhile, the only winner seems to be pirate bay.
- Ronny Arild
Ronny, interesting article. It might be more difficult the launch such service in Europe, but so far I haven't heard or seen any engagement from Apple. Why can't we just have one iTunes Store, US based?
- Rutger Blom
I guess we can have a US based store as soon as the US movie companies wise up and maintain their own international digital download licenses (instead of selling them off to foreign distributors). I'm not holding my breath waiting for that to happen though. As for why we haven't heard anything from Apple, they're probably keeping it under wraps until they've secured enough deals to launch such a service. At least I wouldn't point my finger at them until their competitors launch similar services in Europe.

"Dave built an elaborate Excel spreadsheet to run all of the numbers himself. When the dust settled, what he found was curious. Everything added up nicely except for the Yen column. After a few months of sales reports, he noticed that we were consistently missing 20% of our money from Japan!"
