Atheist Revolution : Design is Not the Only Alternative to Chance - http://www.atheistrev.com/2012...
"Their argument is so ridiculous. Conditions on this planet were hostile to most forms of life for 4 billion years. Then it cooled off, got water and oxygen and became very hospitable to complex life. If that was the result of an intelligent designer, why did it take him 4 billion years to stop screwing it up? Give me a break." - Rooker

Atheist Revolution : Is Online Dating for Atheists a Good Idea? - http://www.atheistrev.com/2011...
"A bit off-topic, but I've found a pretty effective way to weed out overly-religious Twitter users is to not follow back anyone who feels the need to mention it in their bio. There's only 160 characters; anyone using that little bit of space to identify themselves as part of the vast, overwhelming majority is probably going to be annoying about it." - Rooker

Atheist Revolution : Elevators and Sexism in the Atheist Movement - http://www.atheistrev.com/2011...
"A quarter of college-age women and 1 in 6 of all women in the US have had to deal with a rape or attempted rape. That's a number that's not going through my male head as I get into an elevator at 4AM with a guy I've never met already standing in it. Women, on the other hand... Seriously guys, don't hit on a woman in an elevator." - Rooker

Atheist Revolution : Why Do They Hate Atheists? - http://www.atheistrev.com/2011...
"Reason #1 aggravates me to death. There was some idiot Baptist evangelical who got some ink the other day for saying Anthony Weiner needs Jesus for atonement. Hell of a thing to tell a Jew, by the way. Where's the morality in a system where you have a free pass to commit whatever crime you want, so long as you properly grovel to the invisible man afterward? Atheists do the right thing because it's the right thing to do. Doing it out of fear or for a reward is too self-centered to be called morality." - Rooker

Atheist Revolution : Are Atheists at Risk of Developing a Persecution Complex Like Christians? - http://www.atheistrev.com/2011...
"I think it probably is a risk, though with so much actual persecution going on it's easy to see why. Just look at Damon Fowler. I try to remind myself every so often not to attribute religious bigotry to situations where it might not have been involved. As for the Christians, they're so used to having their religious beliefs and rituals automatically catered to here by other Christians, so used to being the overwhelming majority religion, that they cry persecution when someone challenges that undeserved privilege. Some of them fully, honestly believe that not being permitted to impose their religious beliefs on others is a violation of their rights. It's blatant hypocrisy but they can't see it. That privilege blinds them." - Rooker

Atheist Revolution : As an Atheist, What Do I Want? - http://www.atheistrev.com/2011...
"I want religion to become as harmless and uninfluential to society as astrology. I don't care what astrologers believe because their weird belief that it matters where Saturn is in the sky has absolutely no effect on my life or on the world. If you don't believe in astrology, nobody cares. Astrologers and believers don't demand that we teach it alongside astronomy. Astrology can be safely and easily ignored by anyone who doesn't care for it. That's what I want as an atheist, for religion to become as harmless and irrelevant to the world as astrology." - Rooker

Red State Progressive : I'm Not Sure I Can Support Obama in 2012 - http://www.redstateprogressive.com/2011...
"I can't agree with this at all. If the other side were sane, then maybe, but they're not. The Republican Party has been taken over by the lunatic fringe and cannot run candidates with any common sense. Donald Trump, Michele Bachmann and Mike Huckabee are at the top of every GOP poll. These people are absolutely nuts and I'm not casting a de facto vote for any of them by staying home." - Rooker

Red State Progressive : Pulling the Democratic Party to the Left Without Drastic Measures - http://www.redstateprogressive.com/2011...
"Under the current system, third-party candidates don't have a snowballs chance in Hell. The Democrats and GOP both work very hard to keep it that way. What needs to be done about it is staring us right in the face - the Tea Party. Except in a rare few cases, they don't run teabaggers as 3rd party candidates in general elections, they run them against Republicans in the GOP primaries, then throw their support behind whoever wins against the Democrat. They don't split the rightwing vote in the general election, so they don't hurt the right (in the short term anyway). We need to do that on the left. Ralph Nader caused a catastrophe in 2000 by splitting the left and giving us the first four years of Bush. What we need to do instead is to go after the corporate flunkies and conservative throwbacks with D next to their name during their primaries, then supporting the winner against the GOP. I wanted to stay home last November, especially when the White House decided the months right before..." - Rooker

Red State Progressive : President Obama, I Am Awake. Are You? - http://www.redstateprogressive.com/2010...
"I don't know who advised him that the best way to energize a base that's frustrated with him is to mock them with grade school level insults but it's a really stupid strategy. I'd already decided for myself that keeping Republicans out of power is more important -for now- than booting conservatives out of the Democratic party. We can deal with that later. But if they keep this shit up and keep giving the finger to people who want Democrats to act like Democrats, I may change my mind. I can support someone I don't like for the greater good, but not if the leadership is just going to mock me. That middle finger can wave in both directions." - Rooker

Deep Thoughts : It makes my brain hurt - http://mojoey.blogspot.com/2010...
"Well, all I can say to that is, atheists don't have a big, scary monster in the sky threatening to spank us if we misbehave. Despite this, we're not the ones abusing children like sex toys, then spending money donated to charity to cover it up and help the abusers escape justice. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that they can grovel for forgiveness for their crimes, a get-out-of-hell-free card that we atheists don't have." - Rooker

Atheist Revolution : Why Some Atheists Are Offended By Prayer - http://www.atheistrev.com/2010...
"I was just coming back here to say exactly the same thing. The Bible has Jesus himself telling people not to do that. He even calls them hypocrites for doing it. Matthew 6:5 - 6:7 OT: It's easy to see why people like to cherry pick the Bible. It has all these paragraph-sized verses. It's almost like someone wrote them with the intention of making nice little sound bytes." - Rooker

Atheist Revolution : Why Some Atheists Are Offended By Prayer - http://www.atheistrev.com/2010...
"I'll add my list of why I think some of them do it, even when they know you're an atheist: * Some do it to get in the last word and it's the most clever thing they can think of (which isn't saying much) * It's a nicer way of saying "I'm better than you, so I'll pray for your pitiful soul, despite the fact that I can't stand people like you." * It's a nicer way to say "Maybe my God will take away that pesky 'free will' you seem to be abusing and force you to believe in him anyway."" - Rooker

Red State Progressive : The Ralph Nader Smokescreen and Progressive Americans - http://www.redstateprogressive.com/2010...
"I don't see the value of having a majority of Ds in Congress if a quarter of them vote like Rs. Red State Progressive : The N-Word - http://www.redstateprogressive.com/2010...
"I avoid saying it myself now because in my younger, dumber, less progressive and less tolerant days, I'd use a discussion about race as an excuse to spew the words we shouldn't use. "I'm not being racist. We were talking about that word, so I used it." It wasn't about context, it was just an excuse for me. Realizing that I did that when I was a kid, I avoid it now. I think there's a lot of people (not everybody, but a lot) who do exactly the same thing I used to do, like they've been given a temporary pass on manners or something." - Rooker

Atheist Revolution : Does Opposing Religion Entail Anti-Semitism? - http://www.atheistrev.com/2010...
"I agree with the many earlier commenters that being opposed to Judaism as a religion is entirely different to being bigoted towards ethnic Jews as a people or cultural identity. The comparison is silly. I would like to make an observation though. The sort of people who are quickest to accuse others of being anti-semitic can themselves often be accused of being racist, xenophobic or homophobic. I'm talking about conservative white Christians who strongly support Zionism and Israel. I think they use it as cover. "Hey, don't call me a bigot. I support Israeli Jews and you don't. You're an anti-semite!" Someone actually pulled that on me during an argument. I think it's exactly the same phenomenon where racists are quick to call a minority a racist. Glenn Beck calling Obama a racist. Breitbart trying to paint that poor woman at the USDA as a racist. Actually BEING a racist is no longer acceptable, so they're trying to deflect attention from it by shouting "Don't call me racist. They do..." - Rooker

Atheist Revolution : Idiot of the Week Twofor: Billy Graham and Pat Robertson - http://www.atheistrev.com/2010...
"The religious claim that, without big scary man in the sky to keep us all in line, we'll just run crazy with crime and immorality. Which of us rapes children, then spends money donated to charity to cover it up and protect the criminals from justice? They no doubt expect that monstrous creature they worship to fully forgive them for all their crimes against their fellow man. Who then lives according to true morality? Those who behave only because they fear punishment, although they can grovel for forgiveness anyway, or those who have to answer only to their own conscience? Atheists don't get a Get Out Of Jail Free card to play." - Rooker

Atheist Revolution : I've Never Seen an FFRF Billboard I Didn't Like...Until Now - http://www.atheistrev.com/2010...
"I'm never sure what to make of the various bus ads and billboards. I don't know what their point is or who they're trying to make that point to. The messages on most of them don't make any sense. Are they messages to atheists? We already know what the ad is saying. Is it a message to Christians? If so, the wording of most of the ads are just going to make them roll their eyes in annoyance. Is it an awareness campaign to say "hey, we're here!"? Many of the ads aren't worded very well for that. The ones I like are "Don't believe in God? You're not alone [website address]", "Imagine No Religion" and the ones in N Carolina "One Nation, Indivisible". Those have a clear message that reaches out to doubters and new atheists and they raise awareness of atheism without being confrontational about it. The one with the pledge got (at least some) people talking about the original pledge and the suspicion of religion held by the founders. The other ads, I just can't really figure out what they're..." - Rooker

Red State Progressive : White House Slams Progressives - http://www.redstateprogressive.com/2010...
"What riles me up are the Kool-aid drinkers who seem to think we should never, ever, under any circumstance criticize the people on our side of the aisle. That begins right at the top with Rahm Emanuel saying it's "fucking stupid" to run ads criticizing Blue Dogs who decided to represent insurance companies instead of their constituents and their party. Nobody gets a free pass from me and get that glass of Kool-aid out of my face. The main reason I quit being a Republican was disgust at Bush/Cheney, both with the invasion of Iraq and wiping their ass on the constitution. Guess what? Obama's govt is violating civil and constitutional liberties in all the same ways that used to piss me off when Bush/Cheney did it. I'm not at all happy about that. There is no use in having a Democratic majority in DC if a quarter of those Democrats regularly betray their constituents to act like Republicans. Those people should be held accountable regardless of what side they claim to be on. If nobody..." - Rooker
