I used to use DVRMSToolbox when I had Media Center. It automatically removed commercials and converted my recordings to mpg. Maybe it will work for you? I haven't used it in awhile. http://babgvant.com/files/fold... - Jordan Hofker
Also, www.thegreenbutton.com is a *great* resource for Media Center. - Jordan Hofker
I have tried DVRMSToolbox and it never seemed to work out for me; may try again. As for greenbutton.com...found DVRMSToolbox there! Forgotten the site, so I will revisit. Have been looking for a simple and hopefully, free, option. - JA Castillo
Tried again with DVRMSToolbox and converted a test file to MPG format. Will not play in Quicktime or load into iTunes. Any ideas how to rectify this? - JA Castillo
I don't know a lot of people that even intall any google apps other then google gears so maybe that's why they're thinking Vista is making things harder for them. In the end, I don't care at all maybe I should call the waaaaaaambulance. - JohnBfromMemphis
IE mostly, from all of the Analytics reports I've seen. A lot of IE users have Google as the first site they go to. A link to Chrome is there. It makes sense. - Ben Parr
I'm not physicist, but since immense mass and gravity are defining features of a black hole isn't a "microscopic black hole" a theoretical impossibility? (almost 0 mass = almost 0 gravity) .. never mind .. just wikipedia'd it.. darn quantum mechanics (but yeah for "Hawking Radiation") - Freemor
A 1980 V8 Mustang. White with red interior trim. Had it for less than a year; it was shot up by drug dealers using an uzi and a shotgun. No, I wasn't involved or even there. - Akiva Moskovitz

1985 Gray Pontiac Firebird - V6, manual transmission, T-tops (no i don't have a mullet) man i loved that car - good thing it was a V6 - i probably wouldn't be here otherwise - Marco (aureliusmaximus)
Ok, so I feel really old.. 1966 Chevy Belair. It was a tank, I could run it into curbs and light poles, and walk away fine. ( no I wasn't that bad a driver, it was just NYC.. - Lorraine Ball
@Shey.. I think you had my car.. When all my friends switched to mini vans, I got a 240 SX, cause the kids looked cute in the back seat, and it was just the right size.. and I so wasn't going to drive a Mom Car - Lorraine Ball

1991 Dodge Shadow - blue, with pink stripes down the side... was my mom's car, but I was more than grateful to have it passed down to me... it represented freedom in every way... loved it - Nathan Chase
Either a very logical and methodical breakdown of their response, or you let it go. MOre often the latter. - Ben Parr
People who break down my words really piss me off… it's patronising! Luckily, I try to avoid making nonsensical arguments… - Vincent van Wylick

That's a refreshing way to look at it, thanks Nathan! - Vincent van Wylick
I use IE7, and yes, I get a lot of flak from the techie bunch. Before IE7, I used firefox for the tabbed browsing, but had to switch over regularly to IE6 b/c some sites I had to use for work simply didn't work on FF. When IE7 came out and offered me tabbed browsing and no broken sites, I switched permanently away from FF. I never used greasemonkey, so it really was no loss. - Shannon Jiménez
@all: Just so you know, Internet Explorer comments probably won't be included. I'm including browsers to switch to from IE, as well as discovering new browsers on other platforms. I'll be sure to mention IETab under Firefox/Flock/Seamonkey, as compatibility is the #1 reason (such as Shannon above) that people use IE that are more technically minded. - Jake (aka Jawee)
I'm always looking for the best tools for the job. I've tried IE, Opera, Safari, and will try Google Chrome. However, I always come back to Mozilla Firefox due to it's extensibility. Add-ons allow me to customize, control, and extend the browser exactly how I want. - Peter Lewis
Firefox 3.0.1 but if IE8 stays on the track it's on now I'll be switching - JohnBfromMemphis
@JohnBfromMemphis: Why do you use Firefox now and why will you be switching... and what is the right track? - Jake (aka Jawee)
I use IE7 and FF3. We have an accounting software that can only use IE7 so that is one reason. Also I really like the Google Toolbar 5 on IE7. FF3 is mainly used for gmail and twitter use as the plugins are extremely time-saving. - Globecode
I use Safari and FF3 equally. Tried Chrome last night on a Vista virtual machine as wasn't that impressed. - Jonathon
FF3 mostly. But I've got all available installed for testing. Was quite impressed by speed and look & feel of chrome, but miss the features I can get in FF through Tab Kit. Plus I hate the blue on top. :) - Andrea Sturm
I still find it ironic that people use IE for compatibility. There are browsers like Maxathon that build on IE and give it more features and there are extensions like IETab. - Jake (aka Jawee)
at home on the PC, I'm running Chrome as my default browser, with FF3 as backup - at work on the Mac, I'm running Webkit nightly builds, with FF3 as backup - it's all about speed... - Nathan Chase
“Does anyone know a site which does a good, and more detailed, review of "R" packages? i.e. say what they are used for? (R as in http://www.r-project.org/)”
“Does anyone have a better solution to manage contacts on iPhone instead of MobileMe? It seems like every free solution I've found uses Exchange, but I already use Exchange for my work email/contacts, and iPhone won't let you have more than one Exchange account...”
I guess no one else has had this problem? I need a way to sync my Google Contacts/Calendar with iPhone. NuevaSync uses Exchange, GooSync isn't free, and i'm on WinXP, not a Mac. It seems I have no choice but to stick with MobileMe for $99. :( - Nathan Chase
I have a related question. I'm trying to import a bunch of contacts pulled from Outlook into Entourage so I can import them to my iPhone. But when I export them into a tab-delimited text file Entourage breaks up most of the records into two records, requiring a huge amount of manual labor to correct. It would almost be easier to retype them all into Entourage. Any ideas or suggestions? - Stephanie Vardavas
I can't imagine why Google wouldn't release their own tool that would sync Google Calendar & Google Contacts to the iPhone's Calendar & Contacts - and I can't believe NO ONE else has this as an issue - Nathan Chase
There are some awesome apps in the store for this very issue, and more are coming out all the time - Sam Allan
Sam, i looked and found nothing for Google sync - have any links? - Nathan Chase
@Globecode: except GooSync doesn't support iPhone - "A synchronisation application is not yet available for the Apple iPhone." - and it's Calendar-only... i'd like both Calendar and Contacts, if at all possible. - Nathan Chase
Not exactly true: http://www.goosync.com/iPhoneS.... Update: You can forget this post but you can do it with the premium GooSync, just not the free version. - Globecode
@Globecode, I would use NuevaSync, but I already use Exchange for my work email, and the iPhone won't support multiple Exchange accounts... so I'm stuck. - Nathan Chase
yep i guess so, that is the price you pay with apple sometimes. - Globecode
how ironic that Apple would paint users into an MS Exchange Server (1 user) account model... weird. What about Gmail?! - Susan Beebe
@Susan, yeah Gmail's contacts are what I'm trying to sync with the iPhone contacts... but there's no way to do that that I can find... MobileMe just errors out every time if I try to sync to Google Contacts, and NeuvaSync uses Exchange, which I'm unable to take advantage of... so as of now, there's no solution - Nathan Chase
i bet the gphone will sync well with gmail contacts - Ranjit Mathoda
Are you speaking from a web page creator or visitor's point of view? There is CSS that can do this on the creator's side, from the end user side I believe you will need to clear it from cache, which can be easy with FF, tell it to clear visited sites on close in the privacy settings. - cmiper
I just wanted certain links cleared, I don't think it is possible just thought i would ask. - Globecode
You could delete those URLs from your history. - Tanath
I don't believe this is possible using IE (unless you clear all.) Scan the registry for the site's URI and check what comes up... - "Czar" DJ Peterman
I was under the impression that FF lets you selectively edit the history and I assumed IE did as well... - Rahsheen™
I just saw an article about this FF3 addon, it might do what you're looking for, it deletes the cookies and history for a page when you close it's tab, you dont't have to close the whole browser. http://site.voila.fr/closeforg... - cmiper
Thanks cmiper that is definitely the closest thing to what i am looking for. - Globecode
“looking for a link to an mp3/satire of Trance/Techno music where the person "ranting" about how it is all the same creates trance music from parts of his rant.. Was Funny as h*ll But I cant find it again. Any ideas?”
Try waking up even earlier and doing some exercise before you start working. Go for a run or whatever aerobic exercise you prefer. It will be brutal the first few times but the exercise helps your body adapt to the time quickly. I think Zen Habits did a great post on how to make this switch - JMaultasch
Even I would recommend the articles by Steve Pavlina. I practiced them for a while and it really helped me to get up early. - Sudar
espresso. I use a Rancilio Silvia espresso machine and a Rancilio Rocky grinder. FTW - Mattb4rd
thanks for the Pavlina article and the early-exercise advice. I'll try it out tomorrow morning! - Vincent van Wylick
I've never been a morning person. I get up if I have to, but I always feel like doo doo. I never wake feeling refreshed, but I have no trouble staying up at night if I need to. There's owls and larks, and I'm definitely an owl. Having said that, I try not to stay up beyond 1am these days, and I'm usually up by 8am at the latest. - Ian May
Why on Earth 7 a.m.? I've had tremendous trouble waking up before 9:30 a.m. for as long as I remember myself. People are different and why feel guilty about staying true to your nature? - Eugene
A brief feedback: starting my day with a run worked great. Did feel low on the blood sugar after a while. Considering a small breakfast before? - Vincent van Wylick
Have babies. My son wakes up at 5.30am and sticks his fingers in my ear until I get up. Foolproof. - John Samuelson
I got into the habit of staying up late, like 2am or so, and then feeling really weary all day after getting up around 8.30. Now, I tend to go to bed most nights by midnight, and get up at 7am, and get a head start on the day. I had to start it, by getting up early and losing a little sleep for a couple of nights, until I was tired enough to go to bed earlier, and not stay up. I have to be disciplined and walk away from the computer though, as it's easy to sit here working or chatting all night. - Ian May
Considering most people need 6-8 hours of sleep, just dial back the clock from 7am to getting to sleep at/before 11pm and you should eventually train your body to get up at 7. - TDavid
@John -- you're a morning person. We have an 8 year old, it's 9:28AM and she is sleeping like a baby this very moment. - Eugene
I am a naturally nocturnal person who needs to get up by 5 or 5:30 on weekdays. I take 3 mg of melatonin at about 8 or 8:30 pm and so usually by 10 I am pretty drowsy. Otherwise I'd be hosed. - Stephanie Vardavas
I always do pushups, jumping jacks, pull-ups, and crunches in the morning. It gets the blood pumping and is good for metabolism. - Ben Parr
