"several months ago I began sending images to my good friend in Los Angeles, Clive Piercy — odd and interesting things I had found online that day. Each morning, before starting work, I would spend 30 minutes looking for visuals that were beautiful, funny, absurd and yet inspiring. I am continually amazed at the millions of images we have at our fingertips: design history, architecture, photography, ephemera and information. Gradually I added other friends and colleagues to an email list I called "Today," and over the following months it became a kind of obsession. Every day I was trying to find even more of this wonderful material, images that made me smile or that inspired me. Most designers are pack rats and collectors; it is our nature to see rather than just look and these images become a part of our everyday lives." - Cee Bee via Bookmarklet

"The Sandbox is a theme for themers. It has the ability to be easily skinned, so beginners will feel comfortable styling it since they only need to know CSS. More experienced designers will drool at the rich semantic markup and profusion of classes, dynamically generated by a few functions." - Matt Harwood via Bookmarklet

Work and Freelance -- I don't want to show any now ;) - Lindsey Smith
Me at the moment, work.... Doing boring media type stuff today. - orionstarr
Work and freelance stuff here too - work is rather dull but the freelance stuff is fun: a site for a printer and a site for a sculptor, both not ready for prime-time yet ;) - Nadine Schaeffer
Ok I'll show one of mine -- WP template for a fellow FF'er. Just need to code it. http://girlsgamingguide.com/de... - Lindsey Smith
nice Lindsey :) - Nadine Schaeffer
I'm good at design, can't code! I'm thankful for people like Lindsey you make some of our jobs very easy. - orionstarr
A videogame (work), a web application (personal), and an iphone application (personal). Obviously the videogame will get done, but who knows about the rest of it. - Robin Barooah
quite a few real estate video tours these days: http://vimeo.com/1830139 (moonlighting), 2 in-family wedding videos (personal), Flash features: http://tinyurl.com/4gvtjm (work). It's good to be busy! - John Cozen
A new fulltext search engine for a 3 million record database, mainly because I'm having problems getting the indexer (Sphinx) to function properly. - Andrew Leyden
In between jobs or just when I'm looking for some creative inspiration I'll often just throw together art elements in Illustrator and make crazy things. Print them out and put by my computer. Kind of fun! - orionstarr

“Random musing; I really like a lot of professional logos. They are clever, aesthetically pleasing, and clean. I do however notice that they are rarely evocative like a lot of classic logos that may not be considered good design. Now some of this has to do with the effort put into the branding but”

nonetheless I think there has to be a good base there to provoke the consumer into action - Lindsey Smith
I am not the best at doing logos. I mean I feel that I can design with the best of them when it comes to logos but I just have a hard time with the branding aspect. - orionstarr
I'm just slow . . . I take my time with everything - Lindsey Smith
I think good logos are often hard to come by because clients rarely want to pay what logos are worth. I'm not saying big $$ = good logo automatically, I'm thinking that the designer often doesn't get paid enough hours to put into it. - Shey
I agree Shey, but then where do you really draw the line about creating your best? I try to put my best into every project regardless of time. - Lindsey Smith
Shey: along the same lines, I think one of the main problems is that people hiring creatives are often at the business end of things. They see more value in profit margins than brand identity. Lindsey: definitely agree that some logos these days pale in comparison to the emotive of yesteryear, too many today have to rely on people verbally spreading the brand rather than recognising visual elements! - Matt Harwood
When doing logos I feel the client should let the artist be the artist. - orionstarr
Suggestions? What can we do to make our designs more evocative? - Lindsey Smith
Rely less on common trends and techniques, and opt for more original concepts? For example, nearly every up market suit tailors I know off hand have the exact same idea - antique, capitalised, centred typography and not much else. I think there comes a time when the benefits of entrenched ideas about certain designs (such as the tailor shops) are outweighed by the benefits of total change (I'd never forget a tailor's with a pink logo) - Matt Harwood
@Lindsey I'm not suggesting that designers don't put in 100% -- what I'm saying is that time is needed for the creative process is limited. It would be wonderful if we could put all the hours I want into any given project, but I also have to think about time-management. Time I'm over-spending on one project is stealing time from another project - Shey
Fair enough Shey -- As a side-note, my time management sucks - Lindsey Smith
It's an everlasting battle Lindsey, mine too - Shey
I usually check logolounge.com here and there for logo ideas I find that helps. - orionstarr
logo pond is also good orion - Lindsey Smith
