Mail2FF is down and it would be nice if we could get an update on this - JohnBfromMemphis
What is the error message returned from mail2ff? It's at the end of the paragraph that you started to quote. - Gary Burd
sorry for the late reply .. been really busy tonight .. it said that the recipient domain had refused the connection ..I sent it to the wrong room by mistake only to realize that right after I sent it .. then I sent it to the right room and it still came back undelivered.. .I changed my remote key and it worked the 3rd time <edit>I do hope I don't have to change my remote key everytime I need to or want to use Mail2FF</edit> - JohnBfromMemphis

July 17 at 4:59 pm - Link
FriendFeed rejected the message because the image format is not supported. The delivery failure message should have included the text "Image format not supported", but that's often difficult to spot in the delivery failure message gobbledygook. - Gary Burd

“I'm new to M2FF and new to FF, however I've been using this nifty little app to post my pictures from my blackberry. But it took the first 4 and posted them like nothing. I then sent 2 more and the previous 4 were replaced by the newer 2. Is there a limit as to how many I can do over a fixed time?”

Mail2ff has not posted anything I sent it for over 12 hours. Should I resend? Or is this a matter of ask and make happen, instead of it posting automatically? - Josh Jenkins
FriendFeed returns an error to Mail2ff for your messages. Resending will not help. I suspect that the two causes are: message subject is blank, image format not supported by FriendFeed. Work to return informative errors from Mail2ff is in progress. What image format are you sending? - Gary Burd
Gary: .bmp; Though I don't believe that is a major problem. A recommended solution would be if Mail2ff can send an automatic email back stating what the problem was specifically. Hopefully it can handle that kind of Algorithm. Otherwise, we'll never know outside of this discussion. I'll change it to a .jpg and try resending it. - Josh Jenkins
Work to return errors to the sender is in progress. - Gary Burd
I will check bmps later on this weekend. - Gary Burd
I changed it to jpg and it worked instantly. Make sure FF staff are notified of this. - Josh Jenkins

“It would be very cool to make Mail 2 FF ignore subject lines. When I send an email as a text message from my phone, it picks the first few characters of the message as the subject line. Very annoying. Something like nosubj+username+apikey@mail2ff.com and it would then post the entire message body.”
July 2 at 6:29 am - Link
http://friendfeed.com/e/599d3d... shows how annoying it is. The entire message made it in as a comment, but I'd love it if the entire message were the post and there were no comment at all! - James Williams (willia4)
How about simply detecting when the subject is a prefix of the body and then making the body be the post (assuming it's not really long). - Paul Buchheit
Yes, I will detect the matching prefix. - Gary Burd

The mail you sent used nickname "Ppm". Note the uppercase P. Try sending mail with a lowercase "ppm". - Gary Burd
Might as well just .lower() the nickname since it appears that you can't have uppercase in it. Changed in fftogo too: http://github.com/bgolub/fftog... - Benjamin Golub
Thanks. Will try again using lowercase. Problem is: Thunderbirds automatically capitalizes email address, so I will have to use Outlook. - Pierre-Philippe Martin via twhirl

Yes, it's still up. The server logs show one inbound message from you. The time in in the logs is very close to the time for this entry: http://friendfeed.com/e/f89a35... I suspect the message was hung up in your mail server. - Gary Burd

“Cool! Did you create this Gary? This has been on my "things I personally want" list for a long time. Does it work with all the carriers?”
May 29 at 11:27 pm - Link
Yes, I created Mail2ff. It should work with any carrier that can send email. - Gary Burd
With sprint at least, you need to download the photo from their dumb website (I think there's a tag in the html that gives the url). Also, it would be cool to address rooms using +roomname (nickname+key+room@ff2mail.com). - Paul Buchheit
Is this intended to be more for phone 2 mail, as Paul is trying? My test from a standard e-mail client was picture perfect. (I assume it works with GMail as well) - Louis Gray
re: rooms - I will add support tomorrow. re: sprint - I'll see what I can do if you send example mail to my Gmail account. - Gary Burd
re: intended use - Although mail2ff can be used from any email client, I built mail2ff for use use on camera phones. Sending email to @mail2ff.com from a desktop computer is not any easier than using FriendFeed's web UI. For most phones, email is the only way to upload a photo. - Gary Burd
It's also handy for forwarding content into ff from email or cc'ing ff. - Paul Buchheit
Is specifying one's own storage anywhere on the roadmap? =) - Alex
@bleys Can you give an example of the storage you want to use? - Gary Burd
Thanks Gary! - Mitchell Tsai
Great job - thanks for putting this together Gary! - Frederic
@Gary: Gallery2 where I currently keep photos and such. A Picasa album. I understand that any personalization like this will require storing user data on mail2ff server (everything needed for the existing workflow comes in the e-mail, right?), so it's a large and not-KISS change for sure - Alex
it worked well using gmail with my mobile phone, using a photo as attachment! thank you for this. mobile posting with images makes ff (even more) better than twitter!!! - Alessandro
@Alex Picasa and Gallery2 are more difficult than FF for the reason you noted. Support for these services is not on the current roadmap. - Gary Burd
@Gary: got it. The service's great regardless. Thank you! - Alex
