“Silly question ... lets say you clone a git project (using the public clone url) into a local repo. Later you fork the same project on github and you want to pull in that into a local repo (I'm actually thinking of deleting the original clone repo locally). Would that create any issues.”
A common setup would be Apache 2.2 with Mongrel. Passenger (mod_rails) is an attractive alternative, especially for lower traffic low maintenance web sites. Capistrano for deployment is highly recommended. - Martin Fenner
Thanks, I will try that. Always good to start with the ideal configuration ... - PauloNuin
Nginx with Mongrel is also a good alternative. Definitely one of the more popular ones in the RoR userbase on EC2. But I've heard good things about Passenger too. - Deepak
This was more of a philosophical talk. Some of it might also apply to science. Most of our experimental data are soon out of date (= legacy data). How do we handle this situation? Re-starting from scratch is not a good strategy in science and software development. - Martin Fenner
Matt ... had thoughts around Laconica yet? - Deepak
I think it's good to see open options for microblogging, especially for those who wish to do so in a more closed, controlled environment. Less lock-in, etc. I don't see it stealing much of Twitter's thunder in the long term though. - Matt Wood
Likewise. Love the concept, especially in the controlled scenario. Not planning to leave Twitter any time soon. - Deepak
