A common setup would be Apache 2.2 with Mongrel. Passenger (mod_rails) is an attractive alternative, especially for lower traffic low maintenance web sites. Capistrano for deployment is highly recommended. - Martin Fenner
Thanks, I will try that. Always good to start with the ideal configuration ... - PauloNuin
Nginx with Mongrel is also a good alternative. Definitely one of the more popular ones in the RoR userbase on EC2. But I've heard good things about Passenger too. - Deepak
The "classic" setup with Apache 2.2 and Mongrel is described here: http://blog.codahale.com/2006/... - Martin Fenner
Definitely give mod_rails a go if you're starting up: works effortlessly, and is ready for production use. - Matt Wood

This was more of a philosophical talk. Some of it might also apply to science. Most of our experimental data are soon out of date (= legacy data). How do we handle this situation? Re-starting from scratch is not a good strategy in science and software development. - Martin Fenner

HOw was that talk? - Deepak
It was good. I learned a lot of the basic stuff and how to use semantic tools with Rails. The abstract of the session is here: http://en.oreilly.com/railseur... - Martin Fenner
I thought I recognised that name (Rob Lee); I met him at this years Barcamp in Leeds. - Paul Bacchus

Matt ... had thoughts around Laconica yet? - Deepak
I think it's good to see open options for microblogging, especially for those who wish to do so in a more closed, controlled environment. Less lock-in, etc. I don't see it stealing much of Twitter's thunder in the long term though. - Matt Wood
Likewise. Love the concept, especially in the controlled scenario. Not planning to leave Twitter any time soon. - Deepak

Rails has an account on twitter, which is run on Rails. But twitter is not working for this account. I feel recursion... - Michael Barton
