Ha, we've already experimented with a 12-years old blogger (we were very young as a blog at the time as well so I hope it can be forgiven) but this new contributor will be even much younger :) - Svetlana Gladkova
“Baby Day #24 Observation: Babies may have preemptive scheduling. Pooping task preempts the feeding task. Feeding stops until after pooping is complete!”
Sarah has had two throw-up explosions today (all spit-up/milk-related). The first was so good it came out her nose too, poor thing. And 10 minutes ago, she decorated our couch's throw pillow and she'll be soon changing into her 3rd outfit of the day. Matthew, on the other hand, is keeping everything down. - Louis Gray
I don't know if there is a difference. Our son started to spit up milk more in the last ten days or so (he is 24 days old today). Couple of times they were pretty powerful and had good distance :) I read that if you lay them down right after feeding without letting some gas go, then they are very likely to throw-up. - Turker Keskinpala
I'd argue that each have their issues. Girls... well, as my sister exclaimed after two boys: "It's EVERYWHERE! How do you deal with all the nooks and crannies?" Then again, I've never had a girl pee into her own mouth. - Cyndy
I only know girls. And, yes, the nooks and crannies... - Carla Thompson
pre-pregnancy I mocked these when we saw them in a store - after a couple of performance art pieces drawn on our wall and we now consider a folded paper towel a standard changing tool http://hipbabygear.com/accesso... - Marco (aureliusmaximus)
I love this thread. Cyndy, keep it up. - Louis Gray
Have a 3 week newborn baby girl only. When we give her a brother I will let you know. - Mike Fruchter
Cyndy only having a girl, i do agree with your points. Stuff does go every where and fast. As a daddy i have improved with the nooks and crannies situation. Babies momma was quick to point this out to me a few days ago. - Mike Fruchter
10 days in, Matthew has not tried to spray daddy or mommy. And the nooks and crannies are navigable. BUT Sarah did try to hit me with a poop spray gun just now in mid-change. The changing table was a casualty, but I emerged safely. - Louis Gray
Louis, I have CAUGHT VOMIT IN MY HANDS. And not baby spit-up either. ;) Mike, LOL. Leftovers we called them! It's even more fun when they get chunky and then there are little fat rolls and you lose track of where you've checked and where you haven't. - Cyndy
Both have now opted to fill the changing table with their own pee and have it wet the backs of their clothes. But Sarah is the more inventive one. She likes to fill the diaper right after changing. Right after. It's as if she prefers a thin layer of poo to sit in. :-) - Louis Gray
Part of my experience of seeing Hulk at the drive in was having the youngest vomit and my taking it all on my chest to save the car, the family and humanity. After the movie, rinsed shirt out in the bathroom sink with soap and the Vegas heat dried it out in about 5 minutes.... - Chris Reed
@Louis; this is exactly the situation we have. Our baby boy Arda also loves to fill in the clean diaper. Of course, not to mention the peeing right after opening him up :) We learned to give him some time to pee before we open him up completely! - Turker Keskinpala
Allen writes: "Of all of the people I've hired over the years, this negotiation was the toughest. Every time I didn't give in, he cried. I've never had anyone cry before when they didn't get what they wanted so I gave in." - Louis Gray via Bookmarklet
Most amazing, on the post, there are comments from Marshall Kirkpatrick (RWW), Rafe Needleman (CNET) and Stan Schroeder (Mashable). Impressive! Guys, my daughter will be up to speed in a week. Who's up next? TechCrunch? The Inquisitr? - Louis Gray
"The wooden crib slats and spindles can break, creating a gap, which can pose an entrapment and strangulation hazard to infants." - Chris Reed via Bookmarklet
"To be discharged today, and leave the hospital with just one baby instead of two makes me feel that in some way, we're already failing as parents. Our car ride home had one empty car seat. Our crib, divided for two, has only one occupant. And Sarah, who arguably needs the most help, is the only one we can't get to." - Louis Gray via Bookmarklet
@Louis - never miss a marketing opportunity! - Hutch Carpenter
Louis - Thanks to you and your wife for sharing this with us. Even 5000 miles away it was a great moment - Charlie Anzman
Charlie, you're welcome. I felt we had a good chance to be open and share the experience. FriendFeed (and Twitter...) has a great foundation for conversation and community. It's worked out great. - Louis Gray
awwwww... you've literally got your hands full! - Clare Dibble
I promise you they're cuter in person. Is it against "Man Laws" to admitting when I was holding Sarah this evening I was tearing up? She's doing great, but is now at 1805 grams, which translates to just _under_ 4 pounds. Tiny tyke! - Louis Gray
Hmmm.. When the kids were babies, winter heat was up a wee bit to 67. I usually keep it at 65 in the winter. Summer didn't change... 74 for A/C if it was on. I get more freaked out at parents who don't pay attention to how babies are dressed... out in the sun or cold with no hat on their bald little heads... or in the mall in the bucket in full snowsuit while parents have taken their coats off. - Cyndy
I'll start us off... #2 wasn't quite 18 months when he had an allergic reaction. Me, husband, #2, #3 (who was three weeks old at the time) in the ER with #1 at a neighbor. Technically, #1 broke her leg at 16 months, but we didn't have to go to the ER... was all done in the orthopaedic's office. Oh wait... there was the Rotavirus trip when #1 was 15 months... - Cyndy
Oh I win this one. 5 weeks old. Our second one. She came down with a fever and at that age, they have to assume it's meningitis. We came *this* close to her getting a spinal tap in the ER. Think about that for a minute. A bunch of friggin overworked interns inserting a needle into my newborn daughter's spine. Thank Christ my pediatrician stepped in and of course, she didn't have meningitis. Ugh. I still get shudders thinking about it. - Carla Thompson
Aw @Carla, having only a 10 days old baby (#1), your experience sounded pretty scary to me. - Turker Keskinpala
Trips to the ER are as regular in those first couple of months as trips to the market. Something to give Louis heads up about... Perfectly normal... Just need to play as safe as possible.... - Chris Reed
See that's why I love my ped! Office hours 7 days a week, til 9 on weekdays. Fewer ER visits. They even did 3's sutures. - Cyndy via fftogo
To be honest, there's a fine line between updating everyone out of courtesy, and being too detailed. Suffice it to say that things are moving apace. - Louis Gray
Fair enough, last I had checked was over an hour ago, not looking for 'too' much detail, just was wondering if things had taken off yet! :) - Paula Hawk
Louis, this is the Schwag Magnet Room. We all know about dilation and effacement here. :) - Cyndy
Fine, Cyndy. 3 1/2 centimeters for you, young lady. Epidural took place an hour or so ago, so she's doing great, and I'm not needed much any more at this stage (hence, why I'm here). - Louis Gray
By the way, what's the point of saying we needed a lot of sleep ahead of time, only to have her start labor at midnight and pull an all-nighter? We're just wiped out before the kids show up anyways... - Louis Gray
LOL yes, but just think of all the sleep you got last week, it will be a couple of years before you get to sleep like that again! ;) - Paula Hawk
We were trying to warn you! Labor almost always causes at least one all-nighter. You have seen the last of sleep now. And whee! Epidural! I take it that it worked! Mine didn't work for squat during labor with #1, and I later discovered the joy of a spinal. - Cyndy
@Louis... Cool! You got an all-nighter spring training... You should be good and really for the big leagues! You're about to experience one of the happiest moments you will ever have. Congrats! - Chris Reed
Ever since the epidural, this has gotten a whole lot more uneventful. Wife is sleeping now (even through contractions), and there's some progress, but it's slow. I expect this could go _all day_. Who's up for an online game of hearts? - Louis Gray
Just be ready... Things will get pretty active pretty quickly, and you'll have to leave the cards behind.... - Chris Reed
I'll play hearts after soccer. ;) And yeah... it's a big hurry up and wait kind of thing, but once they move, they MOVE. - Cyndy
Hey I love hearts!! i *used* to be really good at it - learned the hard way...youngest in a family of 8 makes you learn real fast~! - Susan Beebe
Susan: 6 kids, or 8 kids? I'm oldest of 5 - Louis Gray
Bueller, it was updated on the original thread. We're at 7 centimeters, advancing at 1 cm/3 hr, not the 1 cm/ 1 hr planned. Babies are doing *great* in terms of heartbeats, etc. but Baby A (boy) is facing the wrong way and isn't doing his part to accelerate dilation. So... some docs want a C-Section, and we're holding out. Next check from them at 6:30. - Louis Gray
6 kids - I am youngest (4 girls, 2 boys). LOL @ Cyndy... soo funny! - Susan Beebe
wow, what a difficult situation to be in... glad to hear that babies and Kristine are healthy! (I bet you both are exhausted by now)... hopefully the boy will turn next to his sister and all will be well! - Susan Beebe
All is well. The kids are here, and in their respective nurseries, so it doesn't exactly seem real. It's more like we finished one task, dropped them off, and then, now what? The girl being small makes me nervous, but I tend to believe all will turn out alright. And as any good parent will tell you, I happen to think they're both cute! - Louis Gray
