"Divers Richard Neely and Allyson Dalton have come forward and told the truth about their 19-hour ordeal at sea. Investigators, in a soon-to-be-released report, have backed the version of events by the British scuba instructor, 38, and his American girlfriend, 40." - Kevin D. White
I've only had one real shark dive. It was at the Blue Hole in Belize two years ago. A boat next to ours full of snorkelers was chumming the water just as we were jumping in. Since it was a rapid decent dive to 130 feet we had to swim on the surface for a little bit to get to our decent position with big grey sharks and a few bulls swimming around us. Not a great place to be. Our decent was even more fun since we had to fluctuate our speed as a group to keep from running into sharks that were swimming along the perimeter. The whole time I was expecting to see a feeding frenzy like the one in this video but it never happened and I'm glad it didn't. - Rafael Robayna
I know I'm new to the sport but chumming the water seems like an obviously stupid thing to do. Dipping oneself in food just sounds dumb. A guy was killed in Florida just last year because he was in water that was full of chum. I know on land no one in their right mind would cover themselves in honey or raw meat and expect anything other than severe injury or death. - Kevin D. White
yeah it was stupid and we swam around and away from the chum. but its also the only way I know to get sharks to come to you so it works for giving tourists or youtube video aficionados the show they're looking for. - Rafael Robayna

"About a decade after Cousteau's first visit to Sipadan, we went there to dive. We had heard about the legendary turtle cave, and it was one of the things at Sipadan that we wanted to see for ourselves." - Kevin D. White
"An unusual and new Guinness world record was achived last weekend, where Czech freedivers had a eight divers breathing from a single regulator during an hour. It is a mixture of scuba and apnea." - Kevin D. White
Oh, FriendFeed, let me edit! anyway - heading to Sharm el-Sheikh. Any tips, things not to miss, etc... appreciated. :) - felix
I have not been to Egypt but of course would love to hear how it goes. What other communities have you tried asking? I have found Scubaboard to be a pretty solid group. - Kevin D. White
Kevin, heh, just this one. I'm not really active in any scuba communities, being more of a dilettante - dive once, maybe twice if I'm lucky a year. Just dove in the Dominican Republic which was decent, long shallow dive. I may go check out Scubaboard and see what they think or at least what they've thought. :) - felix
The Red Sea is an amazing diving desination as there are many areas designated as Marine Parks (no fishing etc only diving!), the corals are really healthy and the fish population really high! You can see everything there! The best way to enjoy red sea is with a liveaboard boat and the second best is to stay in Sharm El Sheikh and dive from there to Ras Mahomed National Park and other areas. Also a day-trip to The Thistlegorn (one of the best wrecks in the work) is a must! - Manos Matsakis

"Diving in the murky waters off National City's Pepper Park, Marine Sgt. Travis Calendine and several colleagues yesterday found nearly 30 seaweed-covered grocery carts during Operation Clean Sweep, an annual event at San Diego Bay." - Kevin D. White
Still trying to decide if I want to try some wreck diving off the Outer Banks (NC) next month, "Graveyard of the Atlantic". I hear it's pretty rough. - £ogical €xtremes
I've never hit the Outer Banks myself. I am planning on doing some wreck dives in Key West. Of course most of the wrecks there were created for reef maintenance and recreation so it's not really the same thing. - Kevin D. White
